Former President George Bush’s new book, Decision Points, goes on sale today. Kindle, the Nook, ibooks, and other electronic modes began sales after midnight. Those not using electronic books will have to wait until stores like Barnes and Nobel open.  Meanwhile, the ex-pres has made the rounds of Hannity, Lauer, and Oprah. The Oprah Show airs this afternoon.  I don’t believe he will appear on Jon Stewart.

The former president discusses his youth, his old drinking days, a grizzly fetus in a jar story that supposedly etched his anti abortion stance in stone, 9-11, Katrina, immigration reform, Saddam, torture and the wars. He apparently does not talk about President Obama. He indicated that is how he would have liked to have been treated.  He also gives us a glimpse of what his new life is like, in a post-Bush world.

Who plans on reading his book? Are all presidential books dry or will the Bush humor creep into his book? How revealing will the former pres be?

Some folks have said that this book is the beginning of Bush’s vindication. Do most Americans agree with this statement?  Has the former pres become less of a lighning rod for criticism?  What has been the most unfairly exaggerated criticism of George Bush?

Not on iPad it doesn’t. It’s not in the iBook store from some odd reason.

  2. I have found myself softening on President Bush. I always have said, I sure didn’t like some of his policies but I never ever doubted that he was sincere. That counts for something.

MH, did you watch the interview last night?

    1. @marin,

No, I am watching him on Oprah right now.

  4. Emma

Hopefully he had a better ghost writer than Laura did. Her book was better than Ambien.

I liked the interview he had with Matt. I think he came off very well. How’d the Oprah interview go? I’d like to know.

My wife (I think she’s a few seashells away from moonbat on 80% of things but I’m corrupting her to the dark side….err reprogramming her public school education…er bringing her to the light of conservatism!) wants to read the book. She liked “My Life” and I think she read the Sarah Palin book I got her. I’m debating on picking up an e-reader for her to get it digital or just going to Borders..

    1. @Marin,

I thought it was an excellent hour long interview. The former Prez was humorous and forthcoming. He and Oprah got along well.

Moonbat is not a polite term. I feel certain there is nothing wrong with your wife’s public school educaton. Ahem, didn’t you go to public school also?

If I were buying an ereader I wold order the new nook touch. It looks way cool. I like the color and touch features. Kindle is sort of …well…dull. On the upside though…kindle transfers to the PC and to the ipad. I don’t think the other ereaders do.

gwb, and his dad for that matter, would’ve been fine jfk conservative democrats of 50 years ago. that bush was considered a conservative, and reviled so much by the liberal intelligentsia, is a testament to how loony far left the modern democrat/socialist party has devolved

    Bush wanted to endorse Obama

” In 2008, Bush Said He ‘Probably Won’t Vote For’ McCain: With
stories about President Bush’s new memoir dominating the headlines
this week, Financial Times Westminster correspondent Alex Barker
reports on his “favourite Bush anecdote,” which he writes, “for
various reasons we couldn’t publish at the time. Some of the witnesses
    still dine out on it“:

The venue was the Oval Office. A group of British dignitaries,
including Gordon Brown, were paying a visit. It was at the height of
the 2008 presidential election campaign, not long after Bush publicly
endorsed John McCain as his successor.

Naturally the election came up in conversation. Trying to be
even-handed and polite, the Brits said something diplomatic about
McCain’s campaign, expecting Bush to express some warm words of
    support for the Republican candidate.

Not a chance. “I probably won’t even vote for the guy,” Bush
told the group, according to two people present.“I had to endorse him.
But I’d have endorsed Obama if they’d asked me.”

Barker said that British officials looked “dumbfounded” and that
Brown’s “poker face gave way to a flash of astonishment.””

    1. @Starry,

      What a great story!!!

  8. And here you all thought that Glenn Beck was crazy for calling Dubya a progressive…….

  9. marinm

    MH,

LOL.. the public school thing was a joke.

@Cargo, Bush first term was the man. Second term, not so much.

  10. @Marin, just checking …I wanted to let you know I was watching….

@Cargo, I don’t need any prompting to think Beck is crazy. Actually I think the crazy is an act. I think he is a tool of the Mormon Church. Have you heard him lately? I wonder if their numbers are up.

I was never much for Bush jokes, but I did laugh when it was first announced that Bush was writing a book and someone on Topix asked: Pop-Up or Coloring?-+
