Every year I drag it out. Just a refresher course…
Hopefully everyone has plenty of firewater and good eats.
Best of holidays!
Sincerely,

MH, you know what’s scary? I remember you doing this last year. How long have I been howling with you??
Peace to all, no matter where you are this Thanksgiving.
Since the beginning of antibvbl.net.
I do it every year.
Gotta love this diddy! Happy Turkey day to all!
Hope everyone on here has a Happy Thanksgiving with their family and/or friends!
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!! Safe travels to those that will be on the roads, rails, or in the sky.
Enjoying the scent of baking bread right now. Happy, safe and blessed Thanksgiving to all!
Church, then baking apple pies to take to dinner in Calverton – another family is cranking the ice cream to go with it. Our first Thanksgiving without our grown children, but we all went together to see the Harry Potter movie last night. We had a group hug afterwards before parting ways. Modern family. A peaceful, thankful day to all.
We are all going to a restaurant. Year three of my Thanksgiving strike. It works well. No dirty dishes to get left with Mom.
This year will just be our family. No outlaws or guests. Should we be paranoid?
Earlier in the week I had this flash of brilliance. The bad thing about eating out is no left overs. So, I ordered up a carry out dinner for Friday so we will have left overs. I had tried the Giant dinner one year but heating it all up to serve at the same time was a total pain in the butt. It was easier to cook it in the first place. However, left overs ….you have to warm them up anyway
I will be sending left overs your way later tonight or early tomorrow. Worry not, Madam Moon. Call your order in at your earliest convenience. 🙂
MH – my mother has the same idea here! We are also going out to a nice restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner. My mother doesn’t need all the work and aggravation that goes into preparing one of those things!
All that cooking is just exhausting @ GR. The clean up is even more so. Is she getting left over meals tomorrow?
I have done it for 3 years now. Each time the food has been superb and never eaten the same place twice. This year is Mimi’s.
Thanks Laf. Email me the menu please. What time does the big bird go down?
This put a damper on my Thanksgiving spirit.
On page A-14, lower right corner, in today’s WashPost theres a notice “Iraq war deaths”
Pfc. David R. Jones Jr, 21, of St Johnsville, NY …… noncombat injuries
Staff Sgt. Loteni W. Gandy, 36, of Pago Pago, American Samoa ….. noncombat injuries
St Johnsville is a town of ca 2500 people. They lost a young man, 21 years old.
A Pago Pago resident fighting for us in Iraq!
When “noncombat injuries” are mentioned, I assume it means suicide. What are we doing?
No, don’t think my Mom’s getting leftover meals tomorrow. For one thing, it will just be her and my Dad here at that point, as we’re planning to return home tomorrow morning unless the weather is bad. Just got back from dinner at nice restaurant where there was all you could turkey, salad bar, etc. plus either pumpkin pie or apple cobbler with ice cream for desert. I’m stuffed, and doubt I will each much tomorrow! I lost track of how much turkey I ate. Too much! Very good dinner though, at local restaurant called Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse here in NJ.
Unfortunately the military is having a big problem with suicides both in the field and back here at home. I know they are trying to get a handle on it but it’s obviously a very difficult problem to solve.
Meant “all you could EAT turkey” in my post #15 above – left out the key word EAT! Maybe that’s because I’m done eating for today, and maybe tomorrow too!
@Punchak
I guess it could also mean car wreck or something like that. But you are right, Punchak. It is troubling.
I am stuffed too, Gainesville. Mimi’s food was served rather than buffet but it was good. I brought home a dog bag also.
Moon, how about next year you insert in that drawing a couple of Indian kids in graduation robes. I have been informed that every graduating senior at St. Labre’s in Montana (Crow and Northern Cheyene) has been accepted into college. Now I have to figure out how much I can spare from the wallet to give them some help with college expenses. The valedictorian is going to attend Montana State and wants to become an RN so she can go back and help her people on the reservation. When Mrs. W, herself an RN, hears about that, my wallet is going to become a lot flatter.
@Wolverine, if you can find the picture, I will put it up tomorrow. I will check out the St. Labre School website. I don’t often contribute there simply because the resources are not endless at the Howler Homestead. I tend to give to St. Joseph’s School mainly because of my warm feelings for Father Steve.
I have probably said this before, but I support that school as much as I can because there is evidence all over the place that the culture is not only respected but also encouraged. So many times the ‘white man’ has tried to stomp out native culture. St. Joseph’s encourages the children to learn as much as possible about the Lakota culture.
Love this video, Moon!! Thanks for posting it each year 🙂
@punchak
“Non combat injuries” are anything not related directly to combat. Probably a traffic accident or other injuries. Humvees are surprisingly easy to roll at high (or even medium) speeds and they don’t wear seat belts.
God bless their poor families.
Moon, if you go to the St. Labre 2010 Summer Newsletter on the home page, you can bring up a photo of the 2010 class in their gold and blue robes standing in front of the large teepee on campus. First time in the school’s history that all the graduates were accepted to a college. I am so proud of those kids I could bust. My money has never been more well spent — at St. Joseph’s as well as at St. Labre. They even have a lady at St. Labre who is teaching their tribal language to the kids so that it will not be lost. I’m looking now to provide some cash for Christmas which will support supplies for an entire classroom. I hope it is hers, but, with a record like that, I’ll take any of them.
