Lateef raises over $150,000 in 71 days

Woodbridge, VA — Dr. Babur Lateef, candidate for Chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, announced Friday his campaign raised $150,268.01 in the first three months of the year, despite his late entry into the race.

Candidates seeking election in November are required by the Virginia State Board of Elections to file quarterly, pre-election and post-election reports disclosing their campaigns’ contributions and expenditures.

Dr. Lateef noted over half of the contributions came from fellow doctors and medical offices, which encourages him.

“I’m running for chairman in order to serve the community that has given my family so much,” Lateef said. “I am humbled by so many doctors investing in my campaign to bring a new vision to Prince William County.”

Dr. Lateef, an eye surgeon from Woodbridge, announced his candidacy in late January and quickly established himself as an energetic challenger to current Chairman Corey Stewart, whose naked ambition for higher office has proven to be a disservice to Prince William County’s more than 400,000 residents.

The Lateef campaign reported a cash on hand total of $117,787.74. Campaign manager Mike McLaughlin said the low expenditures show fiscal discipline.

“Corey Stewart can raise hundreds of thousands of dollars from individuals who have projects in front of the board,” McLaughlin said. “Our disciplined approach will result in a successful campaign.

Dr. Lateef is seeking the Democratic nomination to replace Stewart, who is simultaneously running for re-election and the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Jim Webb.

“Unemployment is up, class sizes are up, taxes are up and Corey Stewart thinks he deserves a promotion,” Lateef said. “I have a new vision for our county, one that serves our families and our future.”

    Moon, that’s funny.

I don’t know who I’m voting for in the Republican primary in 2012, but it won’t be Trump. He’s arrogant, incompetent, and will say whatever he thinks will get him a vote. He’s a terrible businessman who has filed for bankruptcy numerous times and would never have risen above assistant manager of a fast-food franchise if he had not inherited his dad’s money.

Please, please, especially Republicans, not another word about this birther nonsense. The newspaper announcements, the Hawaiian certificate of live birth (that has been published), eyewitness accounts, etc., etc. prove that Obama was born in Hawaii. The most convincing evidence to me is that Hillary did not bring this up in the 2008 primary. If there were a shred of evidence that Obama had not been born in the USA, Hillary would have been all over it.

Republicans need to go into 2012 as serious, responsible, mature, and ready to fix the multitude of real problems Obama and the liberal Congress have created.

    1. Trump would be an embarrassment for the entire countryl.

I am more concerned about the Far Right congress now. It appears that Rep. Boehner is also.

You’ve just described every elected politician in America.

I’ll agree that Trump is better suited to reality TV than the Presidency, but he’s certainly demonstrated to the rest of the field how to go after Obama. The only thing BHO has going is that the country generally likes his personal narrative, and once you disabuse the country of their love affair with that you force focus on results, which have been generally lackluster to say the least. I think Trump’s crazy like a fox with the birther thing. It opens up the larger questions of why we can’t see his transcripts or medical records. Why the secrecy?

Indeed, Trump would be an embarrassment but after four years of Obama I would think the country would be somewhat used to it. For my part, I’ll be behind whomever has the best shot to defeat Obama. If that means getting behind a clown like Trump then so be it.

  4. Obama doesn’t embarrass me. He doesn’t have quite the rock star status that Bill Clinton had but he is respected.

Bush was an embarrassment. He was sincere. He tried. Don’t compound things with Trump or Palin or that other shrieking woman who needs a 5th grade history course.

  5. Now…back to Baber Lateef. That is a nice sized war chest for a first time candidate.

It will be hard to catch up to Corey’s developer money though.

  6. Too bad about the birther craze. If I drank poison and had to vote for a Republican I wouldn’t be ashamed to vote for Arnold. Too bad about that Austrian birth certificate.

Donald or Arnold? Hmmm. One say’s “Your Fired”, the other “Get to da choppa”. Donald’s past financial support for Democrats and his published support for universal healthcare will doom his campaign. Arnold’s naturalized citizenship would keep him out. As a Republican, these are the last two I would hold up as representing GOP ideals. I’m backing Tim Pawlenty.

  10. @Steve, too many social issues for Pawlenty. I do like Arnold. I know he cannot run. But if you aren’t running, I could support Arnold. 😈

Is that the same Corey that first won an election by bashing “developers”? The taxpayer’s may need to build a new baseball stadium for Corey’s favorite minor leauge baseball owner to keep those campaign funds rolling in. Play ball!!
