Political Humor Ron Paul Interview

I know people who simply would not vote for Barak Obama because they were afraid of another government run by the same party in all three branches. Well, I guess their fears were unfounded.

I did not realize that abstinence only education was being funded….AGAIN. Research, time and time again, since the 90’s, has clearly demonstrated abstinence only education fails if it is taught as the ONLY form of sex education. And yet, THIS is funded bipartisan in the Finance Committee but the public option fails? Give me a break!

I really thought that real change was possible. If the Democrats are unable to unify on health care, comprehensive immigration reform seems more and more unlikely, leaving the disaster of “status quo” in its place.

36 Thoughts to “Democratic Super Majority? Doesn’t Seem To Mean Much.”

  1. Moon-howler

Bears with chain saws for paws? Wussies!!

I am so grossed out over that abstinence only program getting funded. Bring George Bush back. At least I expected it. Absinence only programs are laughable. Just laughable. Why not just poor money down a rat hole. What effen planet are these people on?

  2. LMAO! OMG, Elena, thank you for posting that video. That is TRULY the way I like to watch the news.

No, you can’t trust Dems and your can’t trust Repubs. They’re all a bunch of inefficient goof balls. They’ll sit there in a lock until….until forever probably, just like they have done with immigration…that is, unless someone really has some influence on them. And I tend to think that influence will have to come from the outside.

Abstinence only should be taught by churches, IMO, or as one option (which means, of course, you’d have to drop the word “only”). I guess these same people will whine about population control eh?

  3. Moon-howler

Churches and parents. Schools should stick to facts. Actually, schools should cover the needs of the community they serve. Obviously an inner city school system might have different objectives than a school system that serves an Amish community.

  4. True about parents, MH. Parents should always be trying to instill values in kids–even if the kids don’t listen 🙂

  5. Moon-howler

Some don’t even try. Then some over do it.

  6. Last Best Hope

Madam Pinko, I believe the point here is Republicans tend to be unified as a party. They unite behind the President no matter what his agenda is. The point of this slapstick news is that you cannot say the same of Democrats. A Republican can run for President and say “This is what I plan to do.”. A Democrat running for President says “This is what I HOPE to do.”. I’m not sure why this is other than the GOP has a more consistent platform and a less diverse membership and constituency.

  7. @Last Best Hope
Alas, I am a cynic when it comes to parties 🙂

  8. Last Best Hope

But you do agree that Republicans in Congress CAN be trusted to back a Republican President. So in this case the Dem’s deserve your distrust. On personal responsibility I agree neither can be trusted.

  9. Rick Bentley

“If the Democrats are unable to unify on health care, ‘

Their whole asinine overdone “comprehensive” approach is dead at this point.

“comprehensive immigration reform seems more and more unlikely,”

    Thank god.

“leaving the disaster of “status quo” in its place.”

Things can change even without “comprehensive” government overhaul. In my case, my company (a very large one) is moving away from HMOs to a new system as of next year, all tens of thousands of employees. It’s different. It puts a different burden on the employee, and provides more disincentive for spending money. If and when more American companies move towards similar systems, it’ll help to drive the price of health care down.

Drug reimportation, paying rates like the rest of the world, can definitely drive it down.

As to immigration reform, enforce the law and deport. There is no compromise possible. It’s the status quo or enforcement of the law.

The Democratic party will never get “social progress” past the American people while illegal immigrants stand to benefit from it. mark my words.

  10. Rick Bentley

Meanwhile, does it not seem bizarre to you that 47% of Americans pay NO Federal taxes? Perhaps we have moved too far towards being a welfare state.

Get rid of the illegal immigrants (eminently doable) and let’s move towards wage improvement. And then let’s start all paying a fair share in, not polarizing further towards haves and have nots.

  11. Moon-howler

Let’s classify those who don’t pay any taxes.

No one yet has been able to explain how to get deport 9 million people. (pick a number, it constantly changes)

  12. Punchak

    MH

Please go back to putting yourself on the right hand side, so I can tell which comment is yours. Please!

  13. hello

“No one yet has been able to explain how to get deport 9 million people.” – that’s easy, just come down hard on those who employ them. Revoke their business license and fine the hell out of them, period. We are only enabling people who are here illegally by giving them jobs. Dry up the jobs and they will self deport.

  14. Rick Bentley

“No one yet has been able to explain how to get deport 9 million people”

Well, let me explain! Here’s my 5 point plan :

    1. Make it impossible for them to get jobs – fund e-verify and strongly encourage, via fines and jail time, employers to behave responsibly.
    2. Give them health care under emergency circumstances, but deport them as soon as they are stable enough to fly.
    3. Stop exploiting them politically, stop pretending that Amnesty is right down the pike.
    4. Regulate industries they use like wire transfer services, Dish Latino!, and so forth so that only citizens or documented residents can use them.
    5. No drivers liscences for them and deport as soon as they are identified, even if only for a yraffic stop.

Leave the southern border open for a while under these circumstances, and BAM! Problem largely solved.

You’re like a person who leaves crumbs all over their kitchen and water all over the floor saying “I’ll never be able to get these ants out of my kitchen, I’d better learn to share my food with them”.

  15. Rick Bentley

47% of us don’t pay taxes, plus millions of illegal immigrants not even counted in that.

In a related note, we’re running a huge deficit andspending far more than we have! Duh!

  16. Rick Bentley

Perhaps an America in which our government encourages fast food workers to take out half-million dollar home loans is not the best of all possible Americas after all.

Perhaps providing regular, unchallenged subsidies to the poor, which they do not earn, that reward them for having more children while poor is not building the best of all possible Americas.

Perhaps teaching people that the government is going to put fish on their table, rather than encouraging them to fish, is not building the best of all possible Americas.

Perhaps neither the left nor the right have it correct.

  17. Rick Bentley

And in that context, who among us thinks that the answer to our problems is to enact a Congress-engineered “comprehensive” health care that pays more for the poor and elderly at the cost of everyone else?

  18. Rick Bentley

Bush did us all the disservice of raiding the coffers for the rich and poor alike.

Obama is furthering it. He has given the rich plenty through all these bailouts and his only proposals in recent months all involve spending more money, but pretending it’s an investment.

Neither party is responsible, or capable.

  19. Rick Bentley

I’m hoping that now Obama moves to the center, as Clinton did. America needs him to.

  20. Moon-howler

Rick, if it is all that easy, don’t you think someone other than you would have thought this all up decades ago?

I wonder what that person would do about many people other than illegal immigrants using dish tv, for example?

You would have to turn back the hands of time decades to implement the changes you are suggesting.

  21. Emma

Rick, the Democrats are clearly all about the status quo when it comes to illegal immigration. Absolutely buried in the Post yesterday (I heard it on the radio first and had to search for it) was this:

Senators working on a health overhaul have rejected a Republican move to require photo identification for federal health benefits.

Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa said his amendment would have helped cut fraud in health care programs for low-income people. It would have required applicants to present a government-issued ID when applying for Medicaid or the children’s health care program.

But Democrats said unscrupulous medical providers – not beneficiaries – are usually the ones responsible for fraud. They said current ID requirements for beneficiaries are strong enough. The vote was 13-10, against the amendment.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/30/AR2009093002377.html

  22. Moon-howler

And the point is? Again, no answers.

Don’t Medicaid recipients have to provide photo ID now?

Medical providers and recipients are responsible for fraud.

What’s wrong with showing ID when applying for any type of benefit?

  23. Rick Bentley

“What’s wrong with showing ID when applying for any type of benefit?”

It seems like common sense to most of us. But not to the tools who run our government.

How many illegal aliens live in taxpayer-subsidized Section 8 Housing – either straight up like Aunt Zetuni, or under a citizen’s name?

  24. Starryflights

The Democrats need to understand that they have the votes to pass measures like health care and immigration reform without any help from Republicans. The Dems have won both congressional chambers and the White House. The Republicans can hoot and holler and hold tea parties all they want, but when it comes to elections, they are on a losing streak.

  25. Starryflights

Dems taunt GOP: Where’s your health care plan?

By CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press Writer Charles Babington, Associated Press Writer – Fri Oct 2, 3:41 am ET

WASHINGTON – Even as Republicans pummel President Barack Obama’s health care proposals, some GOP leaders worry their party is being hurt by a Democratic counterattack: Where is your plan?

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091002/ap_on_go_co/us_health_care_republicans

  26. hello

It’s kind of funny… Obama was supposed to bring us ALL together, unite us. He can’t even unite his own party.

  27. Rick Bentley

Jesus Buddah and Mohammad working together couldn’t unite the Democratic party.

  28. A PW County Resident

“I’m not a member of any organized political party, I’m a Democrat!” –
    — Will Rogers

  29. Moon-howler

Overlooking of course, the fact that the reason John McCain isn’t president now is because so many Republicans called him a Rino and refused to vote for him. Pot, meet Kettle.

I agree with Rick that both parties leave much to be desired. On the other hand, check out Starryflight’s links. Hmmmmm…..

One party is as bad as the other. Lets see, the Democrats have the blue dog democrats…the fiscally conservative crew. The Republicans have the Rinos–those they don’t feel are really Republicans. When nomenclature carries the most venom?

  30. Emma

He doesn’t need a single Republican vote to pass his healthcare “reform.” His own party is to blame for not falling in line and voting “aye.” Judging from today’s events, and with unemployment now nearly reaching 10%, everything he has touched over the last 8 moonths has pretty much turned to you-know-what.@hello

  31. Emma

The stimulus package was supposed to save or create 750,000 jobs by August. It was a national emergency to pass that bill quickly to avert a “catastrophe.” Just last month, over 200,000 jobs were LOST.

Can anyone list a single major positive achievement of this Democratic “supermajority”?

  32. Moon-howler

Emma, if you continue to blame one person for the ills and woes of the world you will make yourself miserable.

How on earth can the Olympic bid be blamed on Obama? Do we apply the same standard and blame Bush for the 2012 games being in London? How stupid would that be? What is WRONG with you all?

I think it is sad when people can’t push their politics aside to want their country to come out on top. Emma, YOU are still campaigning. The election is over. Try for the 2012 election. Meanwhile, how do we all make it work?

  33. Moon-howler

Yes, we aren’t in a major depression, thanks to the efforts of the Obama administration and the efforts taken last summer/fall by the Bush administration. That is an accomplishment.

  34. Emma

I don’t blame him for losing out on Chicago, Moon. But if you read the article in the Post today, it was called a “stunning defeat,” and described “grim” White House staffers figuring out how they were supposed to spin all of this. That is the ultimate in arrogance–to assume you can just bring your petty little desires to the IOC (like telling them how much you “dream” about being able to go to the Olympics right next to your family home) — and then acting as if you had somehow been denied something you were entitled to. I’m sure the images of a young man being gang-beaten to death might have had more to do with it, or the traffic congestion, or myriad other things we may never know. And it didn’t help that White House staffers started slamming the IOC for its selection methods–sounded like a bunch of spoiled brats.

“Stunning defeat,” indeed. Just wait until Afghanistan implodes.

  35. Moon-howler

Actually I didn’t read it. Mr. Moon had the Post sequestered away.

Maybe the WH staff just shouldn’t try to spin it. There is nothing to spin. Chicago wasn’t chosen as an Olympic site. No sites in the US were chosen for 2012 either.

I expect the Obamaa are disappointed but hardly suicidal. They gave it their best shot. That’s all you can do. It sounds to me like perhaps the Post may have exaggerated a bit.

  36. Emma

Maybe now the president can focus on communicating with his generals more frequently than every 2 months or so.
