There will be a Republican primary August 23.  There will be no Democratic primary.  All registered voters can vote in a primary regardless of party affiliation.  All the different positions will be in the primary, from State senate, state delegate and local supervisor.

Here is who is running for State Senate:

13th District:
John Stirrup (R)
Robert FitzSimmonds (R)
Richard Black (R)

28th District:
Incumbent:
Richard Stuart (R)

29th District:
Incumbent: Charles Colgan (D)

36th District:
Incumbent: Linda “Toddy” Puller (D)
Jeffrey Frederick (R)
Tito Munoz (R)

39th District:
Incumbent: George Barker (D)
Miller Baker (D)
Scott Martin (R)

I am not sure about the 39.  There appears to be an extra democrat in the mix.

10 Thoughts to “Primary August 23”

    Not for nothing but when you vote in a primary your name is recorded as a potential voter for that party and you’ll get election calls and mail from then on as primary voters tend to be more ‘hard core’ than general election voters.

    So, expect to be hit up for money or your vote later on. 🙂

  2. Yes you do. In essence, your name is sold. Learn to say no.

    Please, let’s not forget our local primary as well. A couple of supervisors actually have challengers this year(and from their own party) and we have one vacant seat. My goodness FIVE R’s are vying for this seat.

    @marinm
    I vote in primaries. I just ignore the calls. I’m Independent so I have voted in both D and R primaries. Which ever primary I voted in last election, is who I get the calls from the following year. I have no $$ for candidates. However, if I believe in them I’m more than willing to donate my time and energy. This season, I’ve gotten signatures for the petition to get on the ballot and done some door knocking.

  4. @Lafayette, I haven’t seen hide nor hair of any of the FIVE. I didn’t attend the meeting with the D which is my fault, not hers. I plan on voting the old school tie in the primary.

  5. We have a great Democratic Senate candidate running in the 13th District.

    Barker is the Democratic Nominee in the 39th as no one else filed by the caucus deadline.

    The republican primary will also include Gainesville, Coles, and Brentsville Districts. We will do a separate post on the local election.

    I have a feeling you will see one of them in the near future. Then there’s one that didn’t even acknowlege the Manassas area of the district in his email announcing his intent to run. I won’t call him out by name, as the would give underseving attention. 👿

    ^THAT would give…

    Elena,
    I think it’s going to be interesting at the local level. 🙂

    @Moon-howler

    Your name is not actually “sold” but primaries and general elections in which you vote are recorded with the State Board of Elections. Democrats and Republicans can cross over in primaries, and independents can chose to vote in either primary. However, the fact that you voted in the primary is recorded with SBE and people can (and do) access and compile those data. Voting in the other party’s primary is not confidential information.

    1. @well, not for money. I have often suspected that the names really are sold for money considering who contacts me after I vote in a primary.

      I am always voting in someone else’s party if I vote in a primary. I don’t belong to a party. In fact, I would not know how to join a party officially.
