UPDATE:  PWCS  SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED FRIDAY BECAUSE OF FLOODING.

One of the greatest joys in life each Tuesday after Labor Day is lying in bed, listening to the buses rolling and knowing that it doesn’t involve me!

Kids, get ready to ride the cheese.  Brush your teeth, put on those new clothes, and get ready to face a brand new school year.  This day can make or break you.  Its those 15 second first impressions that can last a year, a life-time.

Parents, prepare for Tuesday night.  You will be hating life with all those bazillion forms to fill out.

Reminder that you can pay for school lunches online in Prince William County.  You can also restrict them so your kid isn’t buying junk food or ice cream for her entire class.  Go to www.mylunchmoney.com.

    Moon,

I just typed a really nice explanation of the history of the TEA Party, and it disappeared with and error message. Since I have to go on my ride, I’ll just tell you in person tomorrow.

  3. @Steve, grrrrrrrr!!! I hate when that happens.

Turns out I won’t be joining “The Gang” tomorrow, but hope it goes well.

    Stay Purple.

  5. I am really sorry you won’t be able to attend, Big Dog.
I understand that you can’t be two places at once. We will be there a couple hours so stop on in after your other obligation is over. I will save a seat for you.

@marin, that was an interesting poll. I am not sure it doesn’t speak more to the people who took it than the actual results. I would refuse to take a poll like that because how do you chose?

I would say some people acquire wealth from hard work, some from being at the right place at the right time and some off the backs of others. I don’t think there is one answer.

How come someone who puts in a deli on one corner does better than someone who puts in a deli down the street? There are all sorts of factors involved. One person could make a good living and the other go bust. It depends on neighbors, traffic, initial investment, hours worked, food contracts, hard work and randomness. Maybe the city put a park right across the street from the first deli. Maybe the parents willed the building to that person. Maybe a new subway station went in on the path past that deli. All would contribute to making that guy get ahead of the competitor.

As for the actions of Lt. “Lucky” Penney, I wouldn’t expect anything less
    from a Purdue graduate.

(M-H, note the comment section under the Lt. Penney story has a glitch)
