President Obama has managed to end 2 out of the three wars this week.
Gaddafi has been killed thus ending our involvement with Libya. Additionally, President Obama has announced that all Iraqi troops will be home by year’s end.
Many of the hawks like Lindsay Graham and John McCain have criticized the president for pulling out and leaving the country unprotected. But was this really Obama’s doing? According to benchmark records, President Bush signed an agreement with the newly formed Iraqi government to leave all Iraqi territory by December 31, 2011. Hmmmmm….why is this Obama’s fault?
Some might say he was a poor negotiator. Others might say he honors prior commitments of other presidents.
One of Stewart’s best skits….
Obama has been an excellent Commander-in-Chief of our nation’s Armed Forces. He has vanquished three of our nation Islamic enemies in just the last few months, and successfully ended two wars. George Bush’s Administraton has eight years to find bin laden and they failed miserably. I’d say that his military accomplishments alone have earned him a second term.
Furthermore, there is no GOP candidate who is electible.
Yes, he has been successful as a Commander-in-chief. Remember when everyone laughed at what a whimp they thought he would be? He who laughs loudest laughs last.
And now we’re going to get mired in Uganda! What a badass he is!
And did I mention the upholding and strengthening of the Patriot Act–you know, all that warrantless wiretapping and other necessary intrusions? Badass all the way!
“He has vanquished three of our nation Islamic enemies in just the last few months.. ”
Now you’re telling us we actually ARE at war with Islam? It’s so hard to keep up.
We keep revisiting these places that seem to harbor bad asses…. Libya and now Uganda. It seems like just yesterday that Jimmy Carta was sending in Delta Force to rescue hostages from Idi Amine’s regieme.
I have no idea who we are at war with. Bush said no. Not sure what Obama is. It appears to be damned if you do, damned if you don’t though if you look at the criticism of the past.
I never complained about the patriot act. I figure I was too boring to be spied on.
“t seems like just yesterday that Jimmy Carta was sending in Delta Force to rescue hostages from Idi Amine’s regieme.”
Ok, then…. um…..perhaps you meant Iran? Entebbe was Israel.
Vanquished our nation’s enemies? Gaddaffi was an enemy? Weren’t we making nice with him since he voluntarily gave up his WMD because he didn’t want what Iraq got?
One death in Yemen is vanquishing our enemies?
Obama was a good target. Done. Good on him.
Who else? Uganda? Somalia? Syria? Iran? Pakistan? Muslim Brotherhood?
So…let’s see…Qaddaffi dead. Killed by NATO supported rebels. Sharia based, Al Queda supported rebels.
I don’t have a problem with leaving Iraq and Afghanistan now. Iraq was scheduled. Obama wanted to keep them there and failed in his negotiations. He didn’t seem to try too hard. Keeping our troops there is only important if we wish to influence Iraq against Iran, and be ready for military ops against Iran. He’s not going to do that….so bring them home.
His previous commitment to surrender in Afghanistan made me want the troops out then. Why keep them when you plan to withdraw them regardless of conditions in the Afghanistan. Killing Osama was an unforeseen benefit. Pakistan is a mess.
He has been surprisingly good at having our military hit targets. Unfortunately, he also comes across as weak in diplomatic circles. He offends our allies and doesn’t worry our enemies.
No, I didn’t mean Iran. I meant the operation in Uganda and you are right, it was Israel and the Israel Defense forces with a little behind the scenes help from our govt. (as in discussion). That’s what happens when you rely on your memory instead of having to read it in a history book.
The Entebbe raid was a huge international incident and I think it coincided with the bicentennial. Idi Amine was a huge problem and violator of human rights. My only point was that country was a big problem and it sounds like they still are.
But I do stand corrected as to who carried out the rescue. 30 or so Americans were being held captive.
Also Jimmy Carta hadn’t been elected yet. Ford was prez.
Pakistan has been a mess. I dont recall any commitment to surrender in Afghanistan.
Can’t we just be glad we are getting our troops out of harms way? I would like to see them all home when possible.
I do not agree with your assessment of Obama foreign policy and neither do many people.
If one has too many right wings, one tends to fly in circles.
@Moon-howler
When you state your future departure date from a theater of war…regardless of the conditions on the ground, as President Obama did, that is a surrender declaration. You are leaving the field of war to the enemy.
I don’t expect you to agree. We have different outlooks. If one has only a left wing, one crashes and burns. Same with only one right wing.
But, to be clear, this isn’t about left or right in this case. Its about his personal world view and how he sees America’s role in it. Hillary is just as left wing, but I think her foreign policy would be different.
Think about Ron Paul. He’s a Republican. But he’s an isolationist. His idea of America’s role is completely different from GWB’s and Paul’s response to 9/11 would have been totally different.
