Last night Greta Van Susteren interviewed the wife of Herman Cain, Gloria. Gloria was delightful, but the interview was painful. Those pointed questions that no wife wants to think about, much less answer, were simply awful to hear. At what point are questions like those just disrespectful?

Certainly anyone who comes along to this point in a presidential race is going to stand by their man.   You don’t make it to the cameras if you are going to throw your man under the bus.

I have never been one to protect men from this kind of interrogation.  I have always believed the “where there is smoke there is fire” theory.   However, by George, I will defend their wives.  Most cases like the one Herman Cain is being accused of end up being “he said/she said.”  In the end, we never really know.  What we believe depends usually, on whether we like or don’t like the person.

Gloria Cain deserves better.  Take that one to the bank.

When your husband or father runs for office, you know that criticisms, allegations and low blows are part of it. Does anyone remember Ross Perot’s running mate? He was a war hero who had served his country for decades but at the time was eating half baked bread. His children were proud of him but didn’t like seeing him on a public stage while his mind was slipping away. Then there’s the image of Clarence Thomas’s wife crying while he denied accusation after accusation. Hillary. Chelsea. W’s daughters had to endure Jon Stewart’s mockery of their dad.

Gloria seems like a sweet lady. Married for over four decades. You’ll find a lot of women like her singing in the choir at First Baptist Church of Manassas. She makes her first major public appearance when her husband needs her the most. With a wife like that, it makes me want to take a second look at Herman Cain.

  2. The press needs to keep the questions with Herman, in a perfect world.

On the other hand, that’s part and parcel of what you have to deal with when you step into the public area. Word to the wise might be to make sure your nose is clean if don’t want your family embarrassed.

I would not even begin to argue that Mrs. Cain is anything less than a fine woman and a sweet lady, but if that’s what makes for a great President then W would have been a huge success and a lot more people would like Obama. Mrs. Cain has nothing to do with why most people will get a second look at her husband as he’s heading towards the exit. He is just not qualified to be Commander-in-Chief. Combine his “Uzbeki-beki-beki-stan” goof, his anti-Muslim comments (in spite of his later apologies), his stance on torture (kudos to John McCain for jumping in and setting the record straight), his ignorance on China’s nuclear weapons (which they’ve had since the days when I used to watch Captain Kangaroo and Romper Room in the mornings), and his befuddlement over recent events in Libya and he’s created real doubt about his knowledge and judgment to be the person taking the hotline call at 2 a.m.

Yes, that “befuddlement” was painful to see.
    Talk about body language!

  5. Moe makes several excellent points starting with Laura Bush and ending with the fact that Cain just doesn’t have the street cred to be prez. I am not sure Sarah Palin doesn’t profit well by companison, as does Bachmann.

Herman Cain is a complete fool and idiot, especially in the arena of foreign affairs, as his ignorant comments about China and Obama’s Libya policty illustrate. He did not know that China has had nuclear weapons for 45 years and could not explain why he opposed Obama’s Libya policy. This is in addition to the sexual harrassment allegations. What this shows is that there is a big, big difference between managing this nation’s foreign affairs and managing a pizza parlor.

I wonder if President Obama could manage a pizza parlor…

Oh. Did I say that out loud?

Cain is having problems. So….we’ll see if he gets the nomination. But if Perry or Gingrich gets it…great!

If Romney gets it….not so great…but he’d still be better than Obama.

The rest of the race…..not a chance that they’ll get it. I think that they’re hoping to get delegates so that they can influence things….they are just holding on until the first few primaries.

Why would you want Perry to get it? Hasn’t he embarrassed you enough?

@Starryflights “Herman Cain is a complete fool and idiot”

This coming from someone who didn’t know that Elena Kagan is a Supreme Court justice. Maybe you should run for office.

    @Moon-howler
Why would anyone want Obama? Talk about an embarrassment…..

Any one of the candidates would be an improvement on Obama. Even Ron Paul.

    1. @Cargo, you are kidding, of course. You are aware that he won the general election at 52% and still has solid supporters?

The Republican debates have been pretty much a parade of fools. That is a bit different than just not liking someone’s politics. Some of those candidates are just feeding the comedians.
