The world looks different now than it did several weeks ago.  All the leaves are finally down on most trees.  What didn’t fall off got blown away by the wind and the rain.  Is the world more transparent now the leaves are gone?  Have you been up on the Skyline Drive when there were no leaves?  Fabulous!  You can look into the soul of the forest.

  1. Mom

    What a shock
    1. Perry
    2. Paul
    3. Gingrich

  2. Censored bybvbl

Ha ha. It was hard to make choices based on Republican priorities but the liberal in me prevailed.

    1. Obama
    2. Huntsman
    3. Gag me with a spoon – Bachman until I utilized the sliding scale and then, gag me again, Gingrich.

  3. Censored bybvbl

DH took the test on his downstairs computer. There was a loud shriek so I knew he’d scored a wing-nut too.
    1. Obama
    2. Huntsman
    3. Perry

  4. regarding the quiz: I want someone to come to my house, with a gun, and put my out of my misery. I am mentally ill.

    1. Newt
    2. Obama
    3. Mitt

Its #1 that is making me beg for the gun.

  5. I am mortified. I am filled with shame. Newt? I think the immigration question did it.
Tell DH I will switch with him. Talk about a shriek. I am sure Chris heard it over at her house.

  6. Put the guns back. I made a mistake. All is well now.

Obama, Huntsman, Romney, in that order.

My computer keys were messed up in the last one.
    🙄

  7. Mom

Typical liberal mentality, blame the hardware for your infatuation with Newt.

    1. MoM, have you checked the car lately? Sleep with one eye open……infatuation with Newt indeed! It is Mickey Mantle!

  8. marinm

You know what’s funny about that ‘quiz’.. Is it shows how liberal the current candidates really are.

    1. Liberal? bwaaahahahahahahaa

      Define liberal.

  9. Mom

Ok all of you legal types out there, Corey has announced his intent to appoint one of the elected soil and water directors (none of whom I could pick out of a lineup) as his appointee to the Planning Commission (replacing Gary Friedman). Apart from the fact that he is a realtor who has development interests in the county, it would seem that such an appointment may be barrred by statute, § 15.2-1534. Certain officers not to hold more than one office.

    Thoughts?

    1. The soil and water director is an elected position with a salary? The planning commission draws a salary?

Dirty pool it sounds like to me.

  10. Need to Know

    1. Ron Paul
    2. Rick Santorum
    3. Michelle Bachman

Not surprised Ron Paul made the top of my list. I didn’t expect Santorum and Bachman.

  11. Need to Know

    @Mom

No surprise there either. Developers bought and paid in full for this election. They’ve already started taking delivery.

  12. Need to Know

    Mrs. NTK just got:

    1. Bachman
    2. Romney
    3. Perry

  13. marinm

    Moon-howler :Liberal? bwaaahahahahahahaa
    Define liberal.

Not conservative. Trusts government to solve problems rather than the people.

    1. How about trusting govt. to carry out the will of all the people or most of the people?

When people solve problems they often put themselves first, above what is best for the group.

  14. cargosquid

    Pro-choice.
    Pro-same sex marriage.
    Pro-union.
    Pro-open borders.
    Pro-entitlements.
    Pro-corruption, ie Chicago way
    Pro-crony capitalism
    Pro-tax
    Pro-spending
    Pro-government growth
    Pro-identity politics
    Pro-multicutural
    Pro-Political Correctness
    Pro-wealth distribution
    Pro-socialist
    Pro-progressive
Pro-fascist (it is a socialist philosophy.)
    Anti-2nd Amendment
    Anti-American Exceptionalism
    Anti-self reliance
    Anti-defense
    Anti-wealth building

Of course, that’s the extreme definition picked from observation of liberals. Pick any four…..

    1. I don’t think some of those are necessarily liberal. Let’s pull a few for discussion. Pro-choice people are not necessarily liberals. I know lots who aren’t. I am not pro or anti same sex marriage. I think its a civil rights issue. Pro-union –I am not even sure what that means. I believe people have a right to form unions. (as do the laws of this nation) I also believe people have a right to work. They have a right to a job without joining a union. So what does that make me?

Pro-open borders–does that just mean anyone can enter the country whenever they want to? That isn’t safe. No. but I do believe that people who are here, crime free, and are working should be able to make some sort of restitution and be able to stay.

Pro-entitlements-Do you mean, do I believe in social security and medicare? You are damn right I do, after paying in to the system all these years. Did you read the thread on poverty? Let’s do a reality hook up here.

That’s enough for one session to discuss.

    2. part 2

Pro-corruption, ie Chicago way–the corrupt are in favor of corruption
Pro-crony capitalism– You mean the Republican game, crony capitalism? I am not in favor
Pro-tax–no one likes taxes. They are a necessary evil. If you want community services, defense, education, public safety, be ready to ante up though.
Pro-spending–this expression is a sound byte and is meaningless. You came to the first meet up. Did you spend any money? you must be pro spending. I didnt see you mooching or hitting the rest of us up to buy your meal.
Pro-government growth–the govt. grows where it needs to. Do we need more cops because of population growth? Do we need more books in the library? More teachers? Is that govt growth? No, then that also is a sound bite.
Pro-identity politics–I have no idea what this even means. It must be another extremist sound byte.
Pro-multicutural–do I believe in recognizing other people’s cultures? Sure. We wouldn’t have Christmas with Santa Claus if it weren’t for the German influence. Good old St. Nick. Does that mean we teach polygamy in the classroom? No. Does it mean it can’t be mentioned? No. Does that mean there can’t be a gay club at the local high school? no.
Pro-Political Correctness–Does that mean we go back to saying the N word in public and calling people fags? That shouldn’t be done. I didn’t hear you saying those words in person or on the blog.
Pro-wealth distribution- that means different things to different people. When people tithe, they give some of what they have to others. I am certain that isn’t what you mean though.

      That’s enough for part 2.

    3. part 3

      Pro-socialist–no. most liberals I know aren’t.
Pro-progressive–Do you mean the Glenn Beck definition from the 20th century or do you mean what normal people mean with progressive which is somewhere between moderate and liberal??
Pro-fascist (it is a socialist philosophy.)–its also what happened in Europe. let’s vote no. Let’s not do cut and paste from right wing blogs.
Anti-2nd Amendment–I think 70% of the American people do not feel this is a totally unlimited right. There have to be some restrictions because of the potential harm. For instance, we don’t give 5 year olds real guns to play with.
Anti-American Exceptionalism– this is new right wing code for something. I might call it hubris.
      Anti-self reliance–more of the above
      Anti-defense–do you mean military defense?
Anti-wealth building- do we mean for ourselves or for others? I don’t want a few thousand people owning everything, if that is what you are asking. Historically that isn’t such a good idea.

  15. Mom

Censored, you are correct, liberals are pro-hogwash.

  16. punchak

    Double hogwash!!!

  17. Mom

That’s the trademark of bow-tie wearing liberals.

  18. Censored bybvbl

Mom, I guess you’re right in a sense – I have been drawn in by the Republican debates. Hee hee.

  19. cargosquid

    @Censored bybvbl
That’s ok. So have the candidates.

    @Moon-howler
Also…notice that I did not define YOU as a liberal……I don’t know you well enough.

If your definition is “will of the people.” why is there a light bulb ban? Why is there ObamaCare when its polling negatively almost 70%.

It thinks is more of an attitude that more government is better. Conservatives look at government as a necessary evil that may solve some problems but should not be the first or only solution.

    1. I guess because of the environment. re light bulbs. And what happened? The people said they wanted lightbulbs and now they have them. Regardless of what else was happening, the people thought light bulbs were important.

Obama care– (I hate that expression) because people are sheep and listed to people who were bought off by that industry and because loud mouths came to the town hall meetings when we were supposed to be finding out about it and kept the others from learning.

I bet those 70% (if that is a true stat) couldn’t make a 40% on a general test about the new health care reform. Why? because they don’t know much about it, only what they have been taught to fear. I doubt if I would make a 50%.

Contrast that to how people love medicare. hmmmmm…similarities? differences?

  20. cargosquid

My take on the Republican candidates.

    or

    http://unitedconservatives.blogspot.com/2011/12/all-of-candidates-suck-pick-one.html

    Same post, different locations.

I ended up with Paul, Bachmann, Perry…..so apparently I’m attracted to certain candidates other than policy….I liked Cain. Gingrich is growing on me. I like Perry.

  21. punchak

I still believe Huntsman is a comer!
After all the shouting is over, he’ll rise in the polls.

    1. He might be too much of a statesman. @ Punchak. The Republicans seem to want a junkyard dog this go-round.

They want NO-Obama. I would start thinking it was me except I remember, very unfondly, the exact same behavior over Bill Clinton.

As soon as he was out of office, all of a sudden Clinton didn’t seem so bad.

  22. cargosquid

I just got a Christmas present.

My RedState post was promoted, in record time it seems, to the “Front Page.” I only wrote it a short time ago today.

    Woohoo!

    1. Obviously you treated them better than you treated me yesterday.

  23. Pat.Herve

    @cargosquid
cargo – that is so full of crap, it does not even qualify for a response.

re the light bulbs – even China realizes that the energy savings from phasing out the incandescent light bulb is worth the effort. The entire world is phasing them out – but thanks to Congress not doing its job, they will be around a little while longer.

    1. Pat, we are the only fools not on the metric system also, even thought mathematically it is 500 times easier to use. But Congress listens to the sheeple.

  24. marinm

    Moon-howler :
Pat, we are the only fools not on the metric system also, even thought mathematically it is 500 times easier to use. But Congress listens to the sheeple.

If that were true my taxes would be low, I wouldn’t be forced at the tip of a spear to have ObamaCare and I wouldn’t need to flush my toilet 4x to do what I could in the past with 1.

If they ‘want’ ObamaCare bring it up to the voters. Put it on the ballot. It would fail.

I also note with amusement that you say “But Congress listens to the sheeple” and in #17 you say “How about trusting govt. to carry out the will of all the people or most of the people?”. One of these things is not like the other…..

Cargo, congrats on getting on Redstate. I’m still conflicted on the idea of voting for a -R for the sake of voting against Obama. Don’t get me wrong. I think the guy needs to be put on the lecture circuit so he can spew the marxism for 20K/speech but if the GOP doesn’t want to listen to me — why should I support them? I’m conflicted.

    1. That isn’t how it works in a representative form of government. Has there ever been a national referendum on anything?

It depends on how Health Reform is presented. It could easily be presented so people were lining up at 6 am to get it.

The first political mistake is thinking everyone thinks like you do. (I always make that mistake.)

  25. cargosquid

So those fluorescent bulbs are energy savers….huh…really. I have to change them as often as I do incandescent. They aren’t made in the States. They have to be shipped over from China. They have to be transported to a “recycling” place for disposal. The entire world is getting away from them…really? Why?

Carbon footprint? China’s worried about a carbon footprint? Don’t make me laugh.

And all that extra mercury in our system is just going to be wonderful. And finally, what business is it for our federal government to decide that citizens can’t buy certain light bulbs?

And that blue light does wonders for those that suffer from migraines.

    1. @Cargo,

I throw mine in the trash but they last for years. You are doing something wrong. I have had the same one in my lamp right beside me for about a year and a half.

Worrying about light bulbs is just not worth the effort.

You remind me of my great grandfather who refused to say Chevrolay. He was not uneducated. He was stubborn.

  26. cargosquid

    FOUND!

The reason why Newt is running at or near the front of the pack!

Moon – what is worse about the Metric system – is that the US is on neither the Metric system, nor SAE – we have a combination of both. Think of all the money that could be saved by the auto industry if they could just move to the Metric system, and not print both on the speedometer (yes, that is a bit of sarcasm, but true)

  28. Pat.Herve

I quoted the wrong entry above – I was trying to quote Moon’s comment about the metric system.

  29. SlowpokeRodriguez

    1. Paul
    2. Gingrich
    3. Bachman

  30. punchak

    @Moon-howler
Dear ole JimmyCarter tried his best to get the US to switch to metric (the only president with a science background, I believe). He also installed solar panels at the White House.
What happened? Well, Reagan came in; bet he didn’t know a thing about the metric system.

While I’m at it / Why aren’t we using Celcius instead of Fahrenheit?
Boil at 100, freeze at 0. What could be easier.

Another pet peeve: Why do the US airlines not use the 24 hour system? With that, there would be no chance of mistaking 8 AM from 8 PM.

‘nother: US is the only country I know of that puts the DAY in the middle of a date. The others have the MONTH in the middle, whether they start with the day or the year.
Today would be either 2011-12-17 or 17-12-2011.

    Thans for letting me vent!

    1. Those are worthwhile vents, for sure! Great points.

Reagan didn’t know jack about solar either.

  31. cargosquid

    @punchak
Use military dating and never get it wrong. 17 Dec 11

    1. you might get it wrong if it was 12 dec 11 if you aren’t used to it.

  32. punchak

    @cargosquid

That’s what I said – the month in the middle – never get it wrong.
    International unity requested 🙂

  33. Starryflights

Gingrich is going to get his butt kicked by Obama in the general election.

  34. punchak

    @Starryflights
I don’t think Gingrich will even be there.

  35. punchak

    @Moon-howler
    No way, Jose!
12 December 2011 would be 12/12/11 – no doubt about it.

  36. @punchak, only if you were used to military dating. I don’t think Newt will be there either. He is just another flash in the pan. Lots of people getting giddy over folks they think are going to do some whup-ass on Obama is all. The dumber they sound, the more popular they are so far. The real candidate will be Romney or Huntsman, once the game of whup ass is over and the real Republican Old Guard tells the others that amateur night is over–back in their cages.
