7 Thoughts to “PBS: Clinton”

  1. Elena

    agreed Moon, he is charismatic.

  2. Elena

    (sigh) I miss Bill……

  3. I don’t think people understand that Clinton to many folks, Democrats and some Independents, was like Reagan was to Republicans.

  4. Blue

Bill Clinton, in terms of his administrative and political skills is one of our best. Eventually history will give him that place. Coming out of the DLC, his ability to bring in a team of seasoned professionals and his willingness to reach accross the aisle was really impressive. I don’t know about being the Democrats Reagan, but I will give you the Democrats Nixon. Only he could go to China and only Clinton could balance the budget. Clinton governed – he led in a way that encouraged and then permitted change.

  5. Need to Know

I watched much of the show and was surprised that PBS clearly pointed out some of Clinton’s flaws rather than just giving us an homage to a Democratic president.

At this point in history, it’s acceptable for Republicans to acknowledge that there were some very positive aspects of Kennedy’s brief presidency and for Democrats to do the same regarding President Reagan. We may be getting to where Republicans can find some good in Clinton also.

Reagan and Clinton both remembered their working-class roots. Both could relate to the problems of the vast majority of the American people, even if their policies for addressing those problems differed.

President Bush, Sr. was among the finest and most skilled foreign policy presidents we’ve ever had, but could not relate to the problems of the unemployed or of those suffering other types of economic hardship. Clinton was a master of that sort of empathy. A good example was the scene in the documentary from the debate when President Bush did not understand the lady’s question about the impact of the economy on regular people and candidate Clinton picked up that meaning immediately.

President Obama came from working-class origins but seems ashamed of it. Rather than relate to the working-class, Obama seems to have his head in the intellectual clouds. He’s uncomfortable among people who don’t have graduate degrees or can’t debate philosophy among Harvard grads.

    1. I got the distinct impression from watching interviews that the head guy on the video didn’t care much for Clinton. He sort of irritated me.

I am a big Clinton fan. I don’t think he was perfect or without fault. I just like him.

    2. President Obama had some things to deal with that other presidents have not. Growing up bi-racial sort of changes everything. Perhaps that is why he seems uncomfortable. I haven’t noticed his discomfort. Granted, he isn’t as at ease as Clinton is/was but then again, who is. Clinton, as we heard last night, had to visit everyone in the kitchen before he would leave.
