24 Thoughts to “Let’s Howl the Election Results”

  1. Hark! Is that a lone wolf up on the mesa, howling the news?

  2. Rabbit

    Perhaps that lone wolf is not howling the news but lamenting the news.

  3. Cindy B

    After all those resounding gongs and clanging cymbals, a lone Wolfe howl seems worthy.

  4. I doubt that the Wolfe laments tonight.

  5. Rabbit

    Wolfe is the top vote getter. Tutus all around, the Ballet is saved!!!
    Looks like there are alot more “elites” in the City than some thought.

    1. It looks like it was a winning night for tutus on bikes.

      I expect the second wave is being plotted though.

      I’ll have grounds
      More relative than this—the play’s the thing
      Wherein I’ll catch the conscience of the King.

  6. Cindy B

    Free admission for 20 live performances at Arts Alive! 2012 at the Hylton Center, this Sunday, May 6 from noon to 6 pm. Visual art displays, food vendors, open air market, Park Authority showmobile and more http://www.pwcartscouncil.org

    @Rabbit

    I’m afraid you’re right.

    Congratulations to the winners. It was a fair fight.

    Manassas voters must like having their money poured down a drain. We’ll keep fighting the good fight in PWC to reduce waste, but with this Board . . .

    1. Maybe the good people of Manassas just aren’t cheap. The City always finds a way to add a little touch of class even though their budget is far less than the County’s.

      I hardly think that they voted to pour their money down a drain.

  8. Emma

    @Need to Know Yeah, welcome to Status-Quo-ville. It’s what we get when people don’t bother to show up to vote. I’ve always been curious as to who pays for those Manassas Ballet Theatre banners across Center Street.

  9. Rabbit

    @Emma, which ever organization wants a banner put up must pay to have one made and then pay a fee to HMI Inc. to have it hung across Center St. by the Manassas Public Works people.

  10. Rabbit

    Oh boy, my mistake. The banners over Center St. are put up for free. The info signs entering the City on rte. 28 and rte. 234 require a fee.

  11. Need to Know

    @Emma

    I know. However, I’ll give Mark Wolfe credit where credit is due. He is very good at mobilizing his supporters and getting them out to vote. That’s how you win elections. He put a lot of effort into this election, even if I don’t like the outcome. Bottom line is that we must respect the voters’ decision.

    Carman worked hard also, but he faced an uphill battle against a fairly solid Republican organization in Manassas. Had he competed for a slot on the ballot at the convention and won, he would have almost certainly won yesterday.

    Moon – Wolfe owes you and Mr. Moon free season tickets to the ballet.

    1. I don’t think Mr. Moon had a thing to do with it. IN fact, if you asked him, he would probably give you a quizzical look. Mr. Wolfe owes me nothing. Elena might feel differently, however. I don’t mean that she feels she is owed anything. that isn’t how she thinks.

      A story was told.

      If Mr. Moon has a role, he is my body guard. Elena is probably packing heat.

    @Moon-howler

    I don’t mean to imply that he was involved in the election at all. I’m just working on the assumption that it’s more fun to attend events with your spouse than by yourself. Mrs. NTK joins me often at social events for organizations I’m involved in that she has nothing to do with.

    1. NTK, if you think I could drag Mr. Howler to a ballet….you are deluded. Let me give you a point of reference. A number of years ago my mother slipped on my front porch and fell. Mr. Howler was headed out to a football game. She was lying there and he stepped around her while I waited for the rescue squad. The only way I would get him to a ballet would be to hog tie him and take him at gun point. I would bet you my 401K on this issue. Even in his old age and not being as limber as he used to be, he would put up a huge fight on a ballet. He might even break an ankle or other body part to get out of doing something like that.

      I used to get roped into taking my daughter to the Nutcracker at Christmas…a time or two. Notice the verb.

    The official blessing of the Republican Party has been a requirement for
    election to the Manassas City Council for twenty years — except, of course,
    for one “legacy” Independent that some how keeps hanging on.

    Ilka Chavez, her husband and her are originally from Panama, is the first
    bi-lingual person elected to the Manassas School Board. She is fluent in
    Spanish and English.

    Feeling old – I was first elected in 1986, Ian Lovejoy was born in 1982.
    He is the youngest person to be elected to council – at least in the last
    four decades.

    1. Wow, that is a long time, Steve. You must be doing something right.

      Have this many people ever run before?

      A bi-lingual person on the school board is probably long overdue, if for no other reason, it might make some parents and students feel that they are represented.

      My stepson graduated from Stonewall High School in 1982. Holy cow. Senator Colgan’s grandson was our school board rep for a year or 2. He was very young. That isn’t such a bad idea when you think about it.

    The Wolfe’s do a great job of rewarding their friends, while the rest of us just foot the bill.

    It’s good to see that Mark Wolfe was the top vote getter. It shows that most people don’t want a bare bones Teabagger agenda. Oh how they howl about the schools, roads, and bike path while they want to pay less and less. The election shows that there are still plenty of sane peeps in Manassas. If you don’t want to pay high real estate taxes, encourage businesses. I saw quite a few people using the outdoor cafes today despite iffy weather so the road widening, landscaping, and down town planners must be doing something right.

    1. I agree with you, Censored. It also shows that they aren’t going to tolerate the bullying we have seen in politics recently. Just reading the blogs, it is easy to see where that was going on on some of the blogs.

    @Moon-howler

    Yes, it seems as though blog bully #1 has gradually fallen into a deep hole and a new bully is trying to bridge the abyss.

    1. Bully #2 has a long way to go to catch up. After all, he hasn’t been a queen maker like Bully #1. I wonder if bully #1 has gotten that fruit basket of appreciation yet? Beware of unintended consequences, I guess. 6 figure salary and a job in NYC. And to think if it hadn’t been for our bully #1, a young TV commentator would be sitting down in King George County peddling ed software as a has-been political candidate.

    @Moon-howler

    I also see a bunch of whining about the elites and favored ones in Manassas from the parrots who were recently accusing Obama of instigating class warfare. Funny how that works! Squawk!! Squawk!! Squawk!!
