It is very tempting to call for a vote of NO Confidence directed at the BOCS from the taxpayers for allowing last week’s debacle to continue regarding the amendments attached to Pete Candland’s resolution. However, No Confidence votes seem a bit melodramatic and are pretty meaningless.
I would hope that those amendments were repealed or rescinded today before the minutes are approved. Let’s see if the Board of County Supervisors has the integrity to do so or if they are just going to allow Jenkins and Stewart to jerk them around.
What a bogus bunch of crap Angela Horan handed down. Surely you all don’t believe those “amendments” were germane?
Didn’t think so. I am not a lawyer but I know BS when I hear it.
BOCS meeting today @2 pm. The county awaits the next bag of dirty tricks. Who gets punished this time?
Targetting one individual is usually bad business. Unfortunately, this was just business as usual in Prince William County.
Regardless, the amendments should not have been pushed through without due process. Debate and discussion would have made for better, stronger local government. Lack of due process and lack transparency just seems to be the way things are handled in Prince William County. Not good.
I agree, but let’s see what happens today at the BOCS meeting. Last week someone from Southwest VA was posting here and said he/she had heard that this mess is causing other Republicans to join the race for LG. That person was apparently correct because Scott Lingamfelter filed to run yesterday, and it appears that two or three other Republicans are on the verge of entering the LG race. Maybe they know more in Southwest than we do here. I’d be very interested to hear more.
I would question the cause/effect.
I don’t see Limgamfelter as much of an improvement. I don’t particularly like people who grandstand and who just won’t admit they don’t like gays or gays in positions of authority.
I saw what the poster was saying last week too from SW Va.. My family members from 5 counties in southern Va. are all say Corey is NOT their pick. Nor, the pick of any of their R friends in the area. I don’t think Corey has learned yet, that the rest of the Commonwealth is nothing like No. Va..
I agree with Moon on Ligamfleter.
It is frustrating in PWC that issues with due process and fairness, are often abused, and yet, we continue on as business as usual. This amendment had nothing to do with discretionary funds and it only apparently affects one supervisor.
I’m glad I’ve kept quiet on this whole mess. As a native, I feel we are hitting an all-time low in good ole P-Dub. It all really is quite embarrassing. Yet our “leaders” seem to keep embarrassing us and taking us for fools. 🙁
@Chris
The bad news is that the embarassing moments are likely to continue for a period time, particularly as our local “leaders” will continue to find themselves shooting at one another and often (unintentionally) at themselves. This was inevitable, the house of cards they have built over the past few decades was economically unsustainable over the long run and not built to withstand intense public scrutiny.
The issue of the discretionary funds was the match to the powder keg but likely one that would have been struck regardless which candidate won the Gainesville seat. That issue is simply leading the BOCS down the rabbit hole, look for increased scrutiny of campaign contributions, charitable donations and land-use/road decisions to follow and likely legislation in the next GA session to prevent a recurrence (particularly as Lingamfelter will need something to beat Corey with).
These new Republican candidates for LG are going to change the race dramatically. For a while it seemed Corey would be unchallenged and have a cakewalk to the nomination. No Republicans, even those who aren’t fond of Corey, wanted to criticize him and risk helping someone like Chopra, who is a likely Democratic LG candidate and former Obama staffer. Given the prospect of an Obama liberal as LG, most Republicans who really didn’t want to get behind Corey would have reluctantly supported him and not criticized him. That mentality has changed. Now, with multiple new Republicans stepping forward with various philosophies Republicans are not speaking against Corey but for candidates they like better. Scott Lingamfelter, a conservative from PWC is definitely in the race. It’s strongly rumored that Jeannemarie Devolites Davis, a moderate, will enter. At least two or three other names are in the rumor mill also.
@Mom
Like I said we are hitting an all-time low. I think we are just seeing the begining of the end. I am glad to see things getting shaken up. These “leaders” need to remember who they work for/represent, but I believe their donors beat out the citizens most of the time.
I agree, the discretionary funds were going to be a topic no matter who represents Gainesville. However, it’s refreshing to see the Gainesville supervisor willing to take on something that’s not too popular with his fellow board members. We can’t forget it’s summer time and they think nobody’s watching during the vacations months. I think they are in for a rude awakening this summer.
I wonder what today’s session really holds in store for us today.
@Moon-howler
Neither Lingamfelter or Rich Anderson came right out and said they didn’t like gays; however, they found another reason to negative votes. Their efforts were insincere and duplicitous at best. And now Lingamfelter has the temerity to throw his hat in the ring for lieutenant governor. The same kind of grandstanding he did with saying he would introduce a bill to stop the use of discretionary funds. Lingamfelter reminds me of Mighty Mouse–here to save the day.
They didn’t need to say it. It was obvious. They put up some BS and blather military chest thumping and voted no. It really had nothing to do with his military service or theirs.
Mom – “look for increased scrutiny of campaign contributions”
Chris – “These ‘leaders’ need to remember who they work for/represent, but I believe their donors beat out the citizens most of the time.”
I looked at Corey’s and Scott’s VPAP records this morning. Here’s Corey’s:
http://www.vpap.org/candidates/profile/money_in_industry1/61061?start_year=2002&end_year=2011&lookup_type=year&filing_period=all
The MH blog software puts you in moderation if you include more than one link so I’ll post Scott’s in a new comment.
Bottom line, Corey has received more than twice as much from real estate and construction than from the next closest source of funds – political organizations.
Scott has taken some money from real estate and construction interests too, but nowhere near as much as Corey has and they are not his largest source of support – less than half as much than his biggest source – political organizations. Moreover, Scott’s biggest contributors from the real estate and construction sector are general contractors, and they are mostly local firms rather than big, out of PWC corporations. I’m all for supporting our local small businesses.
The big developers don’t contribute out of generosity. They want favors in return.
NTK outsmarts the wordpress software! Go NTK!
Scott Lingamfelter’s VPAP record:
http://www.vpap.org/candidates/profile/money_in_industry2/25058?end_year=2011&filing_period=all&lookup_type=year§or=15&start_year=2001
NTK, you may be more aware of local Republican happenings than I, if Lingamfelter runs and wins who is heir to his seat?
Any chance for Jeff to make a comeback?? 🙂
@marinm
Don’t know. That’s a good question
I just noticed that I linked to Scott’s record on real estate and construction only, rather than the overall breakdown of campaign contributions by sector. Here it is:

@Moon-howler
That was what really upset me. My military oath of office was/is a sacred thing to me. To bring it up in the context that they did denigrates the whole meaning of the oath.
@George, I thought their bull crap on the floor of the house of delegates was disingenous. Tracy Thorne-Begland’s military service really had nothing to do with his appointment to a judgeship.
Those 2 guys are no better than sideshow Bob. I bet their votes are exactly the same as his.
MH–you need to read Al’s endorsement of Lingamfelter–I almost threw up on my keyboard. I think he must have Preparation H burns on his lips.
George, was that on his FB or his personal blog? Do you have a link so I can read?
Understand that there is a lot of hate for Republicans that blocked this nomination but they weren’t alone in voting or not voting for that candidate. Why do the dems get quarter for that? Why not call them out as well?
I am struggling to get over this horrible cough and you almost killed me from laughing too hard George!
I had to clean the computer screen….coffee. @Elena
@NTK
Looks bought out to me by big industry, including RE developers.
Looks like the Sheriff may be girding up for a jousting session with Peacor. This should be fun. Moon you may have to make a employee comments exception for Peacor because this could get ugly fast.
I missed it. Is it worth rewinding?
I heard rumors that a certain blog was selling T-shirts and that there would be a sea of T shirts there. blah blah blah. If there was a sea of Tshirts, a shark must have eaten them all.
Nary a soul.
Pete Candland suggested goals for better governance during citizens time. Good for him.
Mom, what happened? Tell! Tell!
@Moon-howler
Nary a shirt in sight but I have an idea for an even better shirt and line of associated “children’s” merchandise. You might even convince Pete to sell them in his office.
Where the heck was a tsunami of t-shirts predicted? I’ve been out of the loop the past few weeks with graduation prep/graduation.
MoM–email me the suggestion. I need a laugh….err….another laugh. George nearly killed me off this afternoon.
The sheriff has 2 news posts up. Someone called the sheriff a rather ugly name. The Sheriff took it pretty well. He is just full of county news. Some folks have been singing like birds.
MoM, I have rewound and made no discoveries.
@Moon-howler
You already have the design.
My mind is slow today….is this something I have mentioned? Hints please.

@Elena
I couldn’t help it–the words just lept onto the screen! It was almost like a Ouija Board pointer was in control.
@George S. Harris
Interesting. Thank you.
@marinm
It is interesting, he calls himself a libertarian, but his actions mark him as a Teapublican. However, I don’t think they would accept him–he seems to be like a buoy in a storm–swinging whichever way the wind blows. Lingamfelter has a tendency to play Mighty Mouse–“Here I am to save the day”. He has been in office just over 10 years and I am absolutely certain he has known about the “wink-wink, nod-nod” way the BOCS has done business for decades but he did nothing about it. Why? I’ll let you guess. But now that it is advantageous to him he leaps in and wants to “save the day” with legislation doing away with discretionary funds. Odd how that works out.
@George,
Don’t forget that little episode of pretending to be a near-liberal libertarian teapartier.
Of course, there were some dumbos who bought all that play acting. Not the Howlers!
MoM is going to call me out for being coy…..He is right. I do have the design for the new MoM T-shirts.
It is from the house of Head-in-rear.
@George S. Harris
George – you’ve nailed Al. He’s a classic Peter Keating.
http://www.cliffsnotes.com/study_guide/literature/the-fountainhead/character-analysis/peter-keating.html
Okay, so you guys have me totally confused. Are you talking about Al Alborn or Scott Ligamfelter?
Who is the “libertarian, Teapublican”? The word “he” when it is placed within a discussion about two “he’s” is not very helpful.
@Clinton S. Long
Clinton, “HE” is Al Alborn. Many of us have had dealings with him that have turned out to be less than desirable. He is particularly well noted for changing horses in the middle of the stream. One of the best examples is his association with the Coffee Party. Annabel Park, the founder, sought him out and asked him to be a spokesman for the Coffee Party. Even did a video with him explaining how he was a libertarian but truly believed in what the Coffee Party was doing. Then some of us saw that things were beginning to go sour and tried our best to warn Annabel but she simply refused to believe it. It was only after she tried to pull the knife our of her back did she finally figure it out.

In my estimation, Scott Lingamfelter is not much different. Perhaps the best example of how he works is his announcement that he was going to do something about discretionary funds. Of course but he has been in elected office for 10 years and it is hard to believe that he didn’t know about the “wink-wink, nod-nod” way the BOCS did business. And now that Stewart may have crapped in his own nest, Lingamfelter has decided it is time to jump in the race of lieutenant governor. Some would say he is an astute politician, I say he is an opportunist who stands around waiting for just the right moment to “save the day”, as Mighty Mouse would say. Another interesting example is his attack on Tracy Thorne-Begland, the openly gay candidate for a judgeship. Lingamfelter and Rich Anderson, both retired military officers, did not come right out and say they didn’t support him because he was gay. Leading the way, Scott chose to malign him for what he says was a failure to live up to his oath as a military officer. Anderson did the same thing. On the surface, it is a good argument, but IMHO, it is an attack based on an oath that has nothing to do with being appointed a judge. Lingamfelter and Anderson said that if he broke one oath, why wouldn’t he break another. In doing wha tthey did, they thought they did not get tarred with the same queer baiting brush as Bob Marshall.
@George S. Harris
In Scott’s defense, he serves in the State Legislature rather than on the PWC Board of Supervisors. Slush funds have not been a state issue because PWC, as I understand it, had the only remaining “descretionary” fund in the state. Getting rid of it had been raised in the past but the Board and senior staff were able to hold off doing anything until recently. Peter came along and pursued the issue like a bulldog. I don’t know if Scott even knew much about it until it underwent such vocal public debate recently.
On other matters, I hope all candidates focus their efforts on economic development, job creation, and low taxes.
@George S. Harris
Thanks, just trying to keep up with the conversation. 🙂
Looks like there’s another Republican throwing their hat in the LG race. Stephen H Martin from Chesterfield is now in the game. There’s still plenty of time for more to jump in the race.

Is he any better than what we have now running? How does Corey think he is going to charge through all that?
