The past few days have brought some interesting discussion over in Sherwood Forest. Some of that discussion has made me raise an eyebrow or two and made me think about where I wanted my flag. My flag is with me right now….and on no man’s plot. My colors are my own, representing the moon and the wolf. Elena and I are going to stay out of Sherwood Forest for fear of getting caught in the crossfire. There are unsubstantiated accusations being thrown around that make us a tad uncomfortable.
We have found that all too often people want to be “in the know” and that sometimes involves people giving wrong information so that they are part of things. People like to fit in.
Several examples come to mind that might not be correct. The history of the land parcel (park) known as Catharpin has history that dates back more than a decade. Its story deserves its own thread. Elena will post later.
Perhaps the Sheriff needs to ask around about the $30,000 Corey Stewart spent on “invitations” to citizens time, less than a month before a hotly contested election in 2007. He sent invitations to every household in the county and then tried to not let them speak if they showed up. Mrs. Caddigan challenged that slick trick on Stewart’s part. That’s a lot of money to spend out of discretionary funds, isn’t it? He is hardly innocent like the Sheriff claims.
It’s one thing to witness what someone has done. Its another thing to listen to gossip. The Sheriff might want to rethink some of the accusations of wrong doing. If people know someone didn’t do something, it has the opposite affect and the citizenry will end up having sympathy. Also, we often don’t know the reasons why people do things. Speculation can be good only if we label it as speculation. After all, we don’t know what’s in people’s hearts.
Its good to ask questions and to demand answers. We aren’t trying to discourage difficult questions. However, we do ask that people not be falsely accused of behavior that might not be quite as it seems. I would rather settle the serious issues in our county than run the risk of ruining people’s reputation and good will going after every little thing.
We are watching but removed.
I remember those postcard invites vividly. I can’t stop laughing, actually. I remember a blog post, one person asking Corey to autograph their invite at the “marathon citizens’ time”, and my personal favorite was Mrs. Caddigan. I can still hear her telling Corey something to the effect he’d invited all of these people to speak and give them their time. Kudos to her almost 5 years after. Where’s the clip of that Moon?
Chris, if this is the right link, it’s about 3-1/2 or 4 minutes into the video.

I remember I got my postcard the day AFTER the meeting was held. Money well spent…not!
yes, speaking of waste and grand-standing. Living proof that the majority does not win.
Those postcards cracked me up…especially the day one arrived in the mailbox of this City of Manassas resident. That was one of those “what the heck???” moments…LOL!
I guess he wanted YOU there, Ray.
He collects email addresses also. For instance I have never written him other than over county business. My email was pirated and now I guess all the campaign stuff. To me, that is misuse of county position but it isn’t important enough to raise a stink over.
It would probably be good if the Sheriff concentrated on discretionary funds rather than commenting on how campaign funds are spent. For starters, people can use their own money in campaigns. Secondly, it takes a fair amount of expertise to rightly call campaign spending irregularies.

That’s the clip, Censored!! Thank you. I’m surprised I’ve not ran into you and the Mr. at the Farmers’ Market.
Have you all been down to buckland Farms? Nice new store. Lots of good things down there including real rat cheese.
