Turn in a supervisor for doing something of benefit to county.  I am serious.  Stop snickering.  Steve Randolph just left us with the names of the 4 Horsemen from 1972 along with their misdeeds.  After those evil clowns, our current guys don’t look half bad.  I went looking for something good to report and immediately saw something very helpful on Maureen Caddigan’s website.  She has a list of the various committees, advisories and the like as well as those she has appointed.  What a great idea!

http://www.dumfries.com/AppointeeList

I wish all the supervisors did this.  Its all part of transparency.

Meanwhile, meet the 4 Horsemen and their misdeeds.  Thanks Steve!!

The “Four Horseman” took office 1-1-1972.
(The Potomac News applied the name soon after)

They were:
– Scott Winfield (Coles), Chairman
– Don Turner (Neabsco), Vice-Chair
– Ralph Mauller (Brentsville)
– Roy Doggett (Manassas)

What did they do to earn the title of the 4 Horsemen?

Not part of the group:
– A.J. Ferlazzo (Dumfries)
– Vernon Dawson (Occoquan)
– Chuck Colgan (Gainesville)

On the first day in office they, in part:
– Fired the County Executive of 15 years, N.C.Sharp.
– Ousted all the School Board members, except one.
– Ordered the locks changed on the county office buildings.
– Named Doggett’s son, John Roy, to the School Board.
– Named Tuner’s boss, Doyle Davis of Jean Davis Realty, to the
Planning Commission.

Help us out here.  Report a supervisor for doing the right thing!

Maybe the story I read was full of it. I don’t see Romney picking a guy with the ultrasound thing hanging around his neck.

    1. I would think so too but stranger things have happened.

Interesting, the Brits have a tribute to NHS in the opening.

  2. Ray Beverage

    @Moon-howler

The Brits are very proud of the NHS…even though they grumble about the wait times (of course we gross about it too in the USA); and the discussions about reforms also lead to much grumbling as they like what they have since 1948.

A bit of history of the British NHS: an economist chaired the committee creating a report in 1942 on “Social Insurance and Allied Services” which lead to the post-war establishment of it in 1948. Funny part was, about six months before his death in 1963, Sir William Beveridge wrote a report pointing to all the weaknesses in the original 1942 “Beveridge Report” (as it became known) and how the NHS was not going to work in future years without further adjustment.

    1. Well, they celebrated it for sure last night. Children’s literature and NHS. Odd combo. I asked a few friends about it and you can buy upgrades that avoid the wait times. I think on friend has his as part of an employment benefit. It really didnt cost all that much.

I agree, Ray, they are very proud of it.

They grouse but it is sort of like grousing about anything else….they would also slit your throat if you tried to take it away from them.

The one thing I have noticed is they don’t have to go great distances there. Paying double for gasoline might kill us, especially in the west where distances are so much greater between places of interest. I need to re-ask that question since my friends have traveled in the west—what that would do to their system. I know he nearly had heart failure hearing what I paid per month for health care…and that was before it was out of pocket.

Boyle is a devout leftist. Not a criticism, just an observation….and why the NHS was featured in the opening ceremonies. It’s a part of British life, and I thought they portrayed it kind of cool. But I enjoyed the whole thing.

    1. My friends are devoted conservatives who make all sorts of politically incorrect remarks and they love NHS. They bought the “cut in line for free” insurance.

So what’s your point about Boyle? The reason it was featured in the opening exercises is because the Brits all are very proud of the NHS. You are ASSuming. I just asked.

Here is one aspect of Europe Obama won’t try to emulate!
    http://www.rt.com/news/eu-drones-illegal-immigration-202/

    1. @Pokie

They have horrible immigration problems in UK and they have populations of immigrants who are not anywhere near as assimilated as our immigrants. Make that most of Europe.

I doubt if Obama does want any of their problems. I guess the sun never setting on the British Empire does have its draw-backs.
Remember me telling you that my Brit friends are generally politically incorrect. make that very. They sent me this years ago.

M-H, Good week in the market, but will the gains hold?
It has been a roller-coaster ride for months.
One of the drivers is an expected QE3, but I’m not
sure, at this point, how much good that will do
since interest rates are already low.
(Also interesting to hear the call for Germany to now
“save Europe” – after almost killing it twice in the
    last century).

    1. Steve, I got clobbered by Apple, tripadvisor and Welpoint. Just clobbered. Those three badboys laid a world of hurt on me and I dont even own that many shares. I lose for the week. Wahhhhhhhh.

So, yesterday after my kids pediatrician’s visit I made it a point to buy 2 overfilled bags of Chick-Fil-A.

My wife wanted to try the peach shake they make and it’s actually really good.

    Yummy yummy in my tummy.

“And in the current presidential election, 0.000063 percent of Americans — fewer than 200 of the country’s 310 million residents — have contributed 80 percent of all super-PAC donations.”

How government by the people became a few people buy the government.

I took great pains to say it was NOT a criticism, merely an observation, and that I wasn’t making any right-left judgement about it, and you STILL get irritated. Hyper-partisan much?

    1. Not particularly. I wasn’t making a right/left judgement either. I was simply saying my very conservative friends love it. I keep reading that Americans say the Brits hate it. I have never heard a Brit say that.

    2. You also did not comment on the video I left you…Was it too politically incorrect for you?

I was in FairOaks Mall at lunch yesterday, and I went to Chik-fil-a at 11:00am. Couldn’t get near the place! Had a #1. Gays DON’T want to know what I’d happily do to them if they were standing between me and a chik-fil-a banana pudding shake. They’d think the holocaust was a picnic

    1. I am going to pretend I don’t know what you are talking about other than you really like chick fil a.

I have said they are entitled to their opinion, in my mind. I don’t agree with them but I am not the thought police and I like their chicken nuggests with house sauce more than I care what they think of marriage.

I hope they don’t do anything aggressive so I have to take a stand.

I would probably put up with a little homophobia just to deal with someone with some manners. I would figure I could always be nicer to someone gay to make up for it. Its hard to find any person at that kind of fast food with any decent manners. Chick Fil A always meets the mark.

Plus, Mr. Howler has to pass by after playing taxi service for #1 grand daughter. He often stops for breakfast for the dogs and me.

Chick Fil A probably got a great shot in the arm because the Pres ran his mouth. Who knows.

The head of Chick-fil-A public relations dropped dead from a massive heart attack yesterday. I suspect he was just another 60 year old guy with too much plaque accumulated in his arteries, but I can only imagine what the self-anointed “family values” crowd would be saying if it had been one of the leaders speaking out against Dan Cathy’s bigoted views who keeled over instead of Cathy’s chief spokesman. I suspect there would be some Pat Robertson style “logic” tying the sudden death to God’s wrath. I believe the guy’s death had more to do with grease than whether he was on the right or wrong side of God. You guys enjoy your sacks of deep-fried righteousness.

    1. @Moe

Marin is true to his politics though. He always buys Starbux because they allow gun totin’ Marin.

Corporate says whatever state law is, they will go with. No heroics.

…they’re deep fried in freedom and liberty with a side of awesome.

On the upside Mo you get to pay for my lapband and hospital visit. Cause I’ve tossed the diet out!

  12. Cato the Elder

Funny, I don’t remember the sirens on the waaahmbulance being turned up quite so loud when Obama was outspending McCain 4:1 in ’08.

  13. marinm

    @Cato the Elder

IIRC it was drowned out by a horde like chant of “Yes We Can!”

Enjoy August — right here in Manassas/PWC!

    1. Why couldnt these people fight during cooler weather. Geez. No wonder so many of them died!

I wonder what the motive is for Cheney trashing Palin? He says she wasn’t prepared to be VP and it was a mistake to put her on the ticket.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/dick-cheney-says-palin-wasnt-ready-to-be-president-picking-her-for-vp-was-mistake-for-mccain/2012/07/29/gJQAHsaCIX_story.html

    1. You can be sure he is up to something. For once I almost agree with him. (other than he said he liked her)

  16. marinm

    @Morris Davis

Makes sense if he wants to make sure that a neocon is put forward instead of a social conservative or someone that would be willing to dismantle our war operations to reduce the deficit.

Also could signal that Romney should double down on getting someone that the far right may not like but should get behind because they’ll still be to the right of Obama.

To me its not a convincing argument but it may work for some people…

And….meanwhile, on the left we have PETA making bets as to when Sen. Grassley will die. Real spiritual and moral leaders on the left!!

    1. I was sitting here thinking maybe chicken isn’t the answer to less artery clogging. Why is PETA making bets on Grassley is going to die? I am just so not behind the scenes.

I don’t care for PETA once they started squirting ink and dye of people they thought were wearing fur. I think they used to do some good things as far as educating folks about testing on animals etc. Then they went off the reservation.
