I just finished making my blog rounds this morning. This BOCS flicking us off is not going to go away. I still am shocked that the bloggers were accused of bullying and arm twisting by Corey Stewart. Corey, I remember when you were the king of bullying and arm-twisting and used some of the bloggers to deliver your message(s). It hasn’t been that long ago. I have folders full of examples. Shall I trot those out? You probably need to rein in your urge to say whatever comes to your mind.
The thought also occurred to me as I read and as I listened to the horsie-gate tapes of the off-campus stable meeting, that really we need to be discussing conflict of interest and what that means.
It doesn’t just involve money. It also involves access to things the rest of the folks don’t have access to. Furthermore, conflict of interest doesn’t always have to be illegal. It can also just look bad. We don’t want our county government to reek of impropriety.
How about this arm twisting business? Isn’t that what we do when we address the BOCS or when we write or phone them? Don’t we have to right to say what we want or how we want our government to run?
Apparently one citizen found out that you just don’t horse around with this bunch. He sure got told off for speaking up. Can you imagine the embarrassment of going to the board to express your opinion only to be belittled and berated in front of everyone? Shades of Herndon! Yes, the apology was in order but the behavior should have never happened.
I don’t want to pick at the BOCS for every little thing they do. I don’t care if they go to steak dinners if it helps county initiatives. I don’t care if Mrs. Jenkins copies whatever she wants. She has donated a lot of free time to this county that we the taxpayers have not had to pay for. For that I thank her. When we start counting a few copies, pens, and paper clips, we look small and petty. Many of our supervisors and their spouses have donated untold hours serving on various committees that have made Prince William County a better place to live. That behavior is a plus, not a problem.
We do, however, need to look at how we do business. We can’t be giving away huge amounts of money to special FOBOCS (Friends of the Board of County Supervisors). Don’t forget horse gate. That one is the engine driving this change-train. Until the BOCS decides to police themselves and make up some sort of rules that govern behavior dealing with favoritism, manure footprints are going to follow them. We are going to be watching who gives who money and who profits from votes. We are going to be watching who gets money budgeted to them since a simple slide over isn’t going to work any more.
Not all of us will be counting steak dinners, phot0-copies, paper clips and pens but Moonhowlings. net and its band of merry men and women will be watching for the high ticket items. You can place a bet on that one.
BWAHAHAHAHA – the image of the horses asses is so apt.
That would be the mane idea.
Saddled with disappointment …….
Caddigan, May, Covington and Jenkins ALL ran un-opposed in 2011. So who are we mad at?!!
@Lyssa
The taxpayers must have unbridled faith in those who are already in office.
On the other hand, who would want to run for office in this country. We have seen what has been done to some candidates.
All the galloping was done over in the Gainesville District. All sorts of folks threw their shoe in the ring. I think there were 6 contenders at one point. 4 stallions and 2 mares just in the R field.
Term limits. We could start with 20 years and work backwards. No one I know has $30k or so to run against a 20 year incumbent and lose. We appear to be stuck with 50% no contest. So our only option is to shame them away? Maybe two of them should step down and support someone else? I wasn’t a Stirrup fan but I am happier with Candland. Fresh eyes….
I think two should bow out and support someone new.
How do you convince two of them to do that, Lyssa?
Well we know one pays attention to blogs. Between you and the Sheriff….keep up the good work.
BREAKING NEWS!!!!
Wally Covington will hold a press conference tomorrow to announce that he’s resigning from the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, and announce his endorsement for his successor. My deputies in Covington’s office have leaked to me a video made by Covington’s chosen successor. Click below.

Well a talking horse is better than a horse’s ass.
You had me for a split second….must be my guilty email conscience.
@lyssa
pssssssttttt…ntk doesn’t speak horse-talk. He had me going too. I had to let others know he was pulling our fetlocks!!!
@Lyssa
I am afraid the sheriff and I have different styles and also different desired outcomes.
It appears that NTK is tickling our fetlocks over here.
Stop being a Clydesdale, NTK and admit you are lying to us.
@Moon-howler
Lying? I thought you get a kick out of that.
@NTK
Don’t you understand horse talk?????
@Moon-howler
http://soundbible.com/429-Horse-Neigh.html
How did you get Congress to pose for their close up?
NTK must have just bought stock in horse roseta stone. Neeegiggghhhh
@Cargo–fed them oats and a fine malt liquor.
Whoa there buddy! Those fine asses are a little closer to home.
@Need to Know
If I walk close enough behind you will you promise not to kick me?
{whistling Mr. Ed}
Wally is going to have to round up more support for his situation to be stable, but I doubt he can count on Stirrup. He’s having trouble already keeping track of those whose opposition to him is unbridled. Someone will have to bale him out, but he did argue his innocence until he was manely hoarse in the throat.
And the horse prize goes to….tah dahhhhhh…NTK.
Don’t shy away from the subject. They are all jockeying for position for chairman. Someone will pull themselves up by the boot straps and whip the rest of them into shape by the time the next crop of supervisors comes along.
The supervisors resent the new mustang and want him to stop bucking the system. Meanwhile, according to The Sheriff, El Jefe wants to geld The Sheriff or at least make him wish for gelding. meanwhile, they all ponied up and saw to it that Reinbow Riding got more than the lion’s share of money. If you can’t roll it, budget it.
@Need to Know
hay, what can you do. I am just waiting for Corey to go rogue on another taxpayer again.
And to the neigh-sayers who brayed that it’s time to put Wally out to pasture, he argued with a gallup that, “it’s not time to rein me in yet.” To those who consider his magnificent, taxpayer-funded barn a night mare, he snorts his readiness to break them to his way of winning the race.
I hope no one thinks we are calling all the supervisors horse’s asses. There are only 4 up there. clue: Only 1 is definitely a supervisor. The others might be developers or bloggers. You just never know.
And thus, along with the dear Chairman, Wally trotted into the sunset.
Please note that I have used the word a** or any other derogatory term in reference to any supervisor.
Sorry, have NOT used
Thought the Chair was gelded – aren’t all bullies…
Nooooo –WAYYYYYYY is that Riding Arena a barn. I am going to balk at that notion.

Old Stewball was race horse,
And I wish he were mine.
He never drank water, \
He always drank wine…
Enjoy–The Hollies. What a goody looking group.
NTK, I am not a gentleman. It is a birth defect, in my case.
Ok, I will take it back. Those horse’s Asses are all developers–the people who get rich off our county and give a pittance.
@Lyssa
That would explain the constipated look.
MoM, come on and join in the horse games. We are talking horse talk. Step up to the mic
I prefer reindeer games.
@Moon-howler
Waste of fine malt liquor.
Iknow at least one who doesn’t think it is a waste. {grin}
@MoM
As do I…..
But today is horse day…in honor of the Horsing Around bocs.
Or perhaps in honor of horse-gate…..
Cargo, do you think we are animals up here in Prince billy bob County?
What are your supervisors like?
I don’t dislike ours. I just think ours have been naughty about a couple things.
@Moon-howler
Actually, I don’t know enough about you guys up there to have an opinion. And I’m not involved enough in local politics to have one here, other than, no shenanigans, LATELY, have been exposed by those that are. They used to be worse, but, so far…pretty quiet. I think its because the developers ran out of money……
