Is everyone fired up, ready to go?  Change that to ready to buy.  APPLE’s long awaited  event will be tomorrow, September 12.  Perfectly choreographed, the powers-that-be at Apple will entice the faithful and hold them on tenterhooks while they introduce  new products, to… just one more thing…Steve Job’s signature expression.

Apple aficionados expect the iphone 5 to be unveiled.  There is a slight chance that the mini ipad will be introduced.  Or…Tim Cook could fool us all.

Size still counts.  Important questions will be about screen size, battery life and what you can watch on it.   Perhaps there will be new features we haven’t thought of.  Jobs defined what we want.  He made us want things we did not know existed.

The event begins at 10 am Pacific time.  Meanwhile, investors were jittery and the stock closed around $2 less, down to $660 a share.  that is not untypical for APPLE stock.

Are you planning on buying the new iphone 5 regardless of what it has?  I think I might have to take the plunge but not right away.

I think if I were a betting woman, I would bet on one more thing….a new companion ipad.

I think I’ll end up buying the 5 if it looks like a good upgrade. I’ll buy it under my wife’s contract upgrade and then swap the SIMs so I keep the 5 and upgrade her to my 4S.

    We’ll see…

  2. So she gets the older phone?

What does she say about that and is she still not speaking to you?/

  3. marinm

She’s using my discarded 3G so a 4S would be a massive upgrade. She knows as Lord of the Manor who gets the newer iPhone. 😉

I really want to see whats new in the 5 and if its worth an upgrade.

Ima wait it out. The contract doesn’t come up for a bit and I’m not very happy with sprint. Their network is so slow – AT&T was worlds better but it is much more expensive. Besides, at the end of the day, this is about 4G LTE. Whoever has the biggest 4g footprint when my contract comes up is who I’ll go with.

As for features, I believe it’ll be incremental improvement. Small iPad? blah….great article in the LA Times yesterday talking about apple and the challenge they face in trying to get out of Steve’s shadow. At some point in the next year or so, they’re going to need to take a product from concept to production w/o Steve being around. It’ll be at that point that we will all know if Apple is going to continue to be worth that handsome valuation it has….

You are tempting my bad hands on this one….

Mrs. Marin would be making you chew that iphone if she really wanted it.

I wish I could find the event online. I want to watch.

  6. @Andy, then there is the other point of view…to always live under Steve’s shadow. I don’t know. As long as he is an icon, let’s use him.

I have been satisfied with verizon. I have my ipad on ATT only because it is a generation 1 and ATT was the only carrier. I also have an unlimited usuage account for $30 a month. I usually just use my wi fi. I am thinking about getting a new ipad with 4G but not activating it right now but getting it for Verizon. That way the old one can be the “traveler” away from the house.

The iphone? I can’t do anything until Nov. My granddaughter is eligible on Sept 17.
I chose to get samsung last phone for me. I got the galaxy. It had a large face for my vintage eyes and it has swype. I would love it if iphone5 had swype or something like it. That would push me over to the iphone side.

I can’t use the internet on a phone except in emergencies…as far as reading the paper or the blog.

I just got a samsung galaxy III, so no iPhone5 for me. My wife is timed just right, so she’ll get one as soon as the initial rush dies down. Can’t wait to see it, though. I work with the developers of the Android Open Kang Project and we do Android device testing for LTE networks, so I have to stick with Android for a while.

What I’m really waiting for now is a 10 inch Google Nexus Tab as a response to the new Kindles.

I agree about the icon thing – he’s a powerful symbol. However, the fact remains that Cook and his team are going to have to conceive of and deliver a product all on their own in the next year or so and that will be the acid test. I’m sure that Jobs and Cook game planned the next several products but at some point Cook is going to want to put his own stamp on the company.

The iphone is a cash cow so earnings will continue to be good but the public at large expects much more from Apple than Microsoft or others. Apple can only deliver on that expectation by delivering visionary products. We’ll see if they’ve got it in ’em. I’m certainly rooting for them!

    1. I and my few motley shares will be rooting for them too, Andy. If only I had bought a whole bunch of them when they were $89 a share. Whine!!!

Do you think they are visionary or did that vision die with Jobs?

  10. Marinm

    @Cargosquid

Thats so 1994.. I like the retro to it but would die if I couldn’t get Matt Drudge, Ron Paul or Glen Beck feeds on my phone.

The specs are good enough that I’ll buy it. Just not the first week. 🙂

4G LTE and my unlimited plan? Slobber.

  11. What was the “one more thing?”

  12. @Marinm
My first cell phone worked in Kuwait and survived rough handling, dropping, kicking, sand storms and rain.

I only changed phones because I lost mine and my wife’s stopped working.

Good grief, I still haven’t figured out all the ins and outs of my iPhone 4S.

These phones are crazy amazing. I can run/monitor my home alarm system from it. Work/personal emails. Contact lists. Games. I can connect to/run my home PC. Work PC if I was inclined. It reminds me of special dates (anniversary!).

I track my kids medical records. Order a pizza, play music, listen to NASCAR via streaming feeds. Netflix lets me play Sesame Street to calm down the kids when they get fussy.

Interestingly, I can connect my iPhone or iPad to my minivan’s entertainment system and have Netflix display on both monitors while it streams the connection on my unlimited plan.

Finances and of course I can browse the Internet using an Onion browser so that the Government can’t track my surfing. I also can activate the anti-forensic mode and kill the device in case I am ever in danger of being captured by Federales……

..the list goes on. Amazing devices.
