Tonight’s the night. (in the words of Rod Stewart)
Starry predicts a huge arse kicking by Vice President Joe BFD Biden. Marin, in the other corner, had to get clever on us and give us:
I think Biden’s going to do some ass kicking tonight. Jabbin’ Joe needs to throw a 1% jab, a 47% cross, a faux war on women hook and end it off with a Big Bird uppercut!
No hedging out bets on all of that. I think Marin might be pulling our leg.
I haven’t heard much about Ryan. He isn’t Palin, which is a compliment. He at least has substance. I just don’t like his budget policies or his stand on reproductive rights. I believe that unless women can control their own reproduction, they have no finacial equality.
So, feel free to comment or not on the debate. I make no promises about sticking with it. I might just fade off to sleep.
I can’t say who’s winning, but Biden looks simple-minded with a stupid grin on constantly.
Poke, that is not the look of a simple mind. That is the look of Wiley Coyote.
I am not totally convinced that Paul Ryan is an adult. He just looks so young.
Biden is confusing rudeness for toughness. Will it work? Couldn’t say.
Both could stand to have better manners. I never like it when people try to talk over another.
the moderator ought to slap both wrists for that.
You have had plenty of practice, I will hand you that!
Well, you think Starry’s bright, too. The simple-minded look didn’t last too long, he changed that.
I have never seen Starry. Have you?
I’m seeing that the laughing and smiling isn’t going over so well.
both are smiling too much, at least Joe looks pleasant, Ryan looks more petulant, probably just because of the age difference. Biden kicked some a$$ on the 2014 aftganastan deadline.
No, No, No….It’s not coming out that way. Sorry, Biden pulled an Al Gore….sigh…..
Substance-wise, Biden did just fine, but what an @$$h0l3!!!
No, but you’ve alluded before to your belief that he’s not as brain-damaged as he “seems” to be. Same with Biden tonight.
Only you when you wear your doctor’s costume, seem to think he is brain damaged. He, on the other hand, thinks your brain is in your….well…I am not going to repeat gossip.
I have never commented on either of your brains, just both your manners.
Entertaining – or should I say engaging. Overall it was a good debate (as far as current debate’s go).
Biden – he was himself, the laughing over talking – that is classic Joe Biden – he was himself. He remembers where he came from, and has not forgotten his roots. He stuck to current policy such as when we get out of Afghanistan.
Ryan – He did well. He knows his topics. He should have owned up to his votes for the spending (war, Part D, etc) and sequestration. He does seem ready to send ground troops to Iran and possibly Syria.
They both did well, they both did what they had to do – I give a slight edge to Biden, as he seemed more comfortable with what he was saying – he believed what he was saying.
Biden spanked the little boy’s rear end, particulary with that 47 percent response. He’s one of us. Way to go Joe!
Biden laid out more details, to be sure, but boy, did he lie and go off track, even trying to one-up Ryan on who has suffered the most personal grief in life! Excuse me, Joe, but you blame Ryan for getting us to war and increasing our debt? You VOTED to go to war in Afghanistan, you grinning, leering, rude, forgetful old coot. And you want us to believe that the Obama administration had no clue whatsoever that the Libyan embassy MIGHT need more security on 9/11? Although he was light on details on some of the questions, Ryan minded his manners and looked like the cool professional to Joe’s dementedly grinning hyena. And people thought Clint Eastwood looked senile!
I guess that means you won’t be voting the Obama/Biden ticket?
@Emma, I rather liked Joe. I didn’t like them talking over each other. Ryan, however much I don’t agree with his politics, is at least a worthy opponent. He is head and shoulders above Palin who really should not have been on the ticket.
He didn’t wink, say “you betcha” try to look coy and cute or say “Can I call you Joe?”
I thought the Joe business was horribly disrespectful. He should have said NO, call me Mr. Vice President. I am still in Palin recovery mode. Ryan was a welcome relief actually.
Paul Ryan pretty much put abortion on the ballot last night. How long are we going to allow this issue to dominate each election?
Blane those wanting to upset the status quo. When women don’t have full reproductive rights, they don’t have economic equality.
Nope, I’m still voting Obama. I’m just trying to find at least one more reason not to feel bad when I wake up Wednesday morning after the election, and I’m just not feelin’ the love.
I think you might have to be under house watch….
It makes no sense to me but I guess we each do things for our own reasons.
What kinda goose is that?
@Moon-howler
Ryan? HE put it on the ballot?
The MODERATOR brought it up, specifically because he’s pro-life. What do you want him to do? Lie?
His answer put it on the ballot.
The bottom line is, Biden’s pro-choice answer involves one person. No one is forced to have an abortion. Biden doesn’t want to force his religious beliefs on others. That is the only decent position to take.
Ryan’s anti- choice answer takes away reproductive rights for every American. No one suggested he lie. Show me where that was suggested. I will grant you, Romney has done nothing BUT lie about his position on the issue.
Yeah.
What other parts of Catholic belief does a candidate have to publicly renounce in order to qualify for the presidency?
Catholics don’t have ownership on beliefs. All faiths have particular beliefs and those should never be legislated.
I don’t think the questions should have been asked that way, personally. I understand why it was but….it just shouldn’t have been. I believe those issues should have nothing to do with governance.
On the other hand, I think back to JFK. He worked so hard for separation of church and state.
Ryan ABSOLUTELY increased our debt! He voted for the unfunded wars, unfunded prescription drug benefits, unfunded tax cuts in time of war and steered millions in stimulus funds to Wisconsin while claiming that they would increase jobs. He only became a deficit hound when it served his social purposes.
Ryan also voted for Sequestration – and failed to deliver – he was also part of the Simpson Bowles commission, and failed to deliver – he did not even approve it.
All the Republicans on the Super Committee were those who had taken the Norquist pledge. That tied their hands. They should have never been allowed to serve on that committee if they were incapable of compromise. They came to the table with restrictions. Who appointed them?
Ryan did his job. He presented himself as a qualified Vice President and provided no new ammunition to oppose the Romney-Ryan ticket. The vice presidential debate is inconsequential unless one of the candidates commits a gaffe that calls into question his qualification to assume the presidency. People may not agree with his views but no one can seriously question his capability to serve as Vice President.
Disagreeing with views is probably the first reason to question one’s capability to serve but…I think you are saying he isn’t a Palin.
I seriously don’t know who could take her seriously. Ryan is NOT my cup of tea policy wise. I pretty much disagree with all his positions. I also think he brings his religion to the office he serves and seeks.
If he left his religion at the door, I would agree with Kelly.
I would say that blind devotion to cutting social programs independent of deficit control would be one reason Ryan is unfit for duty.
Another great reason would be his displayed total ineptitude on foreign policy. But then, an Ayn Rand devotee has no reason to understand foreign policy…
Benghazi was a monumental display of foreign policy ineptitude, along with a willingness to lie outright to the American people. What’s your point?@middleman
The real missing point would be to question why would the administration deliberately lie?
You know that the House subcommittee of inquisition blew the CIA cover. Doh.
I don’t think anyone really knows what happened that night. They probably never will because the FBI has to operate out of Tripoli and the the crime scene was immediately compromised.
The entire Republican pick fest really is pointless. How does the Administration gain or lose points if it is a terrorist attack. Let’s think back to the Bush years….they were very reticent do officially deem something a terrorist attack. I am not even sure why other than because if everything is a terrorist attack, people desensitize and let their guard down.
Emma, fess up. You weren’t really there
We know you are pulling our leg.
What begs the question is, what is a real terrorist attack? perhaps that is what we should really be discussing. I am not sure I even know any more.
According to wikipedia, which is as good a place to start as any:
I guess terrorism is in the eye of the beholder. I expect a drone that flies over and kills civilians is collateral damage to Americans. Sort of an ooops, we didnt mean to do that.
To an Afghani family on the ground who loses family members, we are terrorists. Fear, political gain, stealth, are all there.
I am not calling our military terrorists, but I am saying the term is relative, depending on one’s perspective.
Perhaps the Republicans shouldn’t be so quick to throw it about. If someone pulls up in front of your compound with the equivalent of howlitzers and grenade launchers and starts letting you have it with all barrels, it that terrorim or is it an insurgent attack? How do you know the motivation? Its dark. How do you even know who it is?
It really has become an absurd argument and one that doesn’t matter in the long run. An attack is an attack. Truthfully, does the motivation really matter?
I should have known it was going to be used as a wedge issue given who got down to such fervent arguing about that idiot video.
And yes, illiterate zealots (and surprised, there are quite a few of those in the middle east) get pretty stirred up and into craze mode fairly easily.
My followup comment vaporized, but I was going to say this:
Saying from the get-go that it was a spontaneous demonstration gone bad because of an anti-Mohammed video was a monumental rush to judgment. Obama wasn’t coolly waiting for the facts to come in. The administration wanted us to believe that the attack was the result of American anti-Muslim sentiment, and not a result of policy failure or that Obama wasn’t as popular overseas as he wants us to believe. The whole world knew within days that the armed attack was planned, not a spontaneous demonstration, yet the White House still stuck to its original video narrative. No one has to have “been there” to be able to see they’ve been lied to.
Did I leave out that we have our fair share of people I would consider semi illiterate zealots in this country? I say semi because true illiteracy has been pretty much stomped out in this country.
@Emma Emma, my point is that Ryan is unqualified for VP duty because he is a right wing extremist with no foreign policy qualifications other than his ultra-libertarian philosophy, which would be a disaster if he were to become president. His views and positions in no way represent any part of the American public save the Tea-Party die-hards. There’s a reason he has backtracked on his positions such as demanding women carry to term even in rape and incest situations. There’s a reason he won’t name the program cuts he will need to make to balance the budget after more tax cuts for the rich and increased military spending. The vast majority of the American people don’t agree with his extreme libertarian philosophy. THAT would be my point…
The polls this week seem to say otherwise.
