PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. —

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement is set to phase-out its 287(g) program and Prince William County chairman Corey A. Stewart, R-at large, isn’t happy about the development.

Under section 287(g) of Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, local jurisdictions are allowed to enforce immigration laws by helping to arrest and eventually deport criminal illegal immigrants.

In 2007,  the Prince William board passed a resolution aimed at enforcing local illegal immigration laws after months of discussion with law enforcement,  the board and Prince William residents.

Stewart said the resolution helped county officials deport  more than 5,000 “criminal, illegal aliens” who were suspected “murder, rape, and other crimes.”

“I am personally  am convinced that this program is instrumental in that reduction in crime,” Stewart said. [bold print by author]

Stewart also credited  the resolution with contributing a  47.8% drop in violent crime.

“A recent action by the Obama administration is, in my view,  reprehensible,” Stewart said.

The number of lies Corey Stewart has told about the PWC immigration program is what is reprehensible.  Let’s start with the bold print.  Corey states that county officials deported more  than 5,000 illegal aliens.  First lies told right out of the gate.  County officials cannot deport anyone.  The only persons who can deport are federal judges.  5000 illegal aliens have probably been turned over to ICE through our MOA with 287(g).  However, the County does not know who, if anyone, was deported.  The DHS does not tell the county the disposition of those picked up.  This angered Stewart so badly he led the county to sue for the information.  Click here to  read about this lawsuit and further information on our 287(g) program.  To date, the information sought has not been released by the DHS.

Stewart also continues to dangle out a false statistic of 47.8% drop in violent crime.  That never happened, according to the Prince William County Police Crime reports around the time the 287(g) plan was implemented.  How do you prove a negative.  It didn’t happen.  Article after article validates the fact that immigration was used as a wedge issue and as a political tool to catapult Corey Stewart into national limelight.    The Washington Post took a stand on the immigration crackdown as a cautionary tale.  Further Moonhowlings threads report indepth analysis of what really happened vs the dream woven remake of the Corey Stewart Hour.   This last link blows the faux statistics out of the water and used the UVA report that we all paid for as a source.

Regardless of evidence presented, Corey clings to his 47.8% isolated statistic like a badly tattered Teddy Bear.  He continues to drag it around with him in hopes someone believes him.  Meanwhile. he has told so many lies about his immigration quest that I fear he believes those lies himself.

What will eventually happen is our 287(g) program will run out in December, 2012.  It will be replaced with the Secure Communities Program.  The following link to ICE explains the history of the program:

I.C.E. Facts

Secure Communities Facts

Part of the reason that PWC is losing 287(g) is because of initial misuse.  The County was told that they could only expect 40 criminals removed per month.  This limit was mainly due to limited resources at the federal level. Meanwhile, once implemented, politicians in PWC acted like they had a new toy and even got Rep. Frank Wolf involved when ICE didn’t arrive on the spot to pick up all of our illegal aliens.  Prince William County abused the system and then whined when they didn’t get feed back on what had become of them all.

ICE to Release names  (not sure they ever really did release names)

Prince William was not prioritizing.  It held illegal immigrants for jay walking, driving without a license, drunk in public, and those types of nuisance “crimes” and demanded that these folks be deported.  That wasn’t going to happen.

Rather than bitching about President Obama, perhaps Corey should have at least held AZ Governor Jan Brewer somewhat responsible also.   Similarly, elements in the Arizona SB 1070 case had some problematic components. that taxed the resources in 287(g).  The decision was made to phase it out.  The replacement tool will be Secure Communities, already in effect for some.  Will there be retraining?  Will there be an illegal alien unit within the police department or will we continue to operate through the jail program?  These are all questions that taxpayers should start demanding answers to.  Meanwhile, Corey is just blathering, trying to bring  his tired Teddy Bear back to life.  Corey, its over.

Apart from Stewart’s other problems, this one sounds like we need a change in the White House.

I see a Federal Government in collusion against its own citizens, and a PWC Supervisor justifiably angry as heck about it.

How do we not have the right to know whether those people were deported or not? How can the Federal Government claim the right to keep that information secret? Stewart may or may not be the tool that you claim him to be, but I’m glad he doesn’t roll over and accept what’s going on here.

    1. Rick, why are you still believing Core-ster’s blather? He doesn’t believe it. Why do you care if we are on 287(g) or Secure Communitities if both do the same thing for us, which is to aid getting criminal illegal aliens off the streets?

I think that is a bi-partisan issue we can all agree on. Corey doesn’t give a real rat’s ass. He is using it as a political tool and not too well either.

I am probably not voting for Romney, but he’s got a good chance to win, and if he does, I look forward to two things :

    A. The worm finally turning on the illegal immigration issue
    B. never again having to watch right-wing pundits drone on about “Judeo-Christian values”

    1. How did it work out for you under the last Republican administration?

B., How is Romney winning get rid of listening about Judeo Christen values? Do tell!!!!!

Stewart keeps wanting to ride this horse to notoriety but events have passed him bye and it’s more like riding through the desert on a horse with no name. There is no established correlation between the 287g program in PWC and crime rate drops.

You are sooooo right blue moon. Anything Corey can do to revive his days of “glory” in the spotlight he will attempt.

Finally keeping track of undocumented immigrants and crimes was a gift actually, unbeknownst to Corey. We now know that only 6% of violent crime, at least from the last PWC Police report, was committed by undocumented immigrants, at the majority of arrests were for traffic misdemeanors.

    @Blue Moon
You’re right about the lack of correlation. One could as easily say that because cupcakes have seen an increase in popularity in the last few years, they have caused crime in PWC to drop.

    1. The Core-ster has never worried about Coreylation. Just as long as enough of his buds are about to cheer him on, he hangs on to his tattered Teddy like a ..well..horse with no name.

      Good one, Blue Moon.

Great, the Rule of Law thing was a smashing success, having reduced violent crimes by 6 percent. So let’s move on to more important matters.

How do we not have the right to know whether those people were deported or not? P>

Because Corey Stewart said they were deported, so it must be a fact.

Moon, this is a good summation of the facts but I think everyone is missing the point. This situation is not about 287(g), illegal immigration, crime statistics, or any other substantive issue. It’s about Corey Stewart’s maniacal ego, and his willingness to say or do anything, and adopt or renounce any position, that he thinks will further his political career.

It makes no difference whether you are Republican or Democrat, or support open-borders or round-ups and deportation. Corey is not a trusted ally. He is with you one day, and stabs you in the back the next day when he sees political advantage in doing so.

His former land-use supporters can tell you that story. Only his most blindly allegiant illegal immigration followers are still with him. He quietly shut down his VA Rule of Law PAC last summer because hardly anyone supported or cared about it. There are countless other examples of Corey betraying people whom he claimed to support. He is the biggest con man in Virginia politics.

His latest stunt is his temper tantrum at Tuesday’s board meeting about 287(g). What has Corey ever accomplished for us? Nothing. His whole immigration crusade is falling apart. Moon correctly cited the falsity of his crime claims. One of his biggest early accomplishments was helping stop the Brentswood development in 2006, but now he’s working hard to bring it back under a new name, Stonehaven, because developers support his campaign. Taxes and spending have not gone down under Corey’s leadership. When he claims he’s cut taxes and spending he’s comparing to the height of revenues coming in during the housing market bubble.

Corey is nothing but a showman and a fraud, and I can’t understand how he still gets anyone, Republican or Democrat, to support him.
