Mitt Romney also had his gifts. How about lowering taxes for the rich boys? Expanded oiling drilling? Ripping the heart out of Planned Parenthood? He had his own gift bag.
However, not all Republicans are hell bent on blaming a no longer traditional America for all the GOP’s woes. Listen to what Bobby Jindal has to say about how Americans view these gifts. According to the Washington Post:
We think voters generally make decisions based on a complex assessment of their own interests and what they think is good for the country. Mr. Romney apparently views the people as a series of segmentable, selfish market shares. That is “absolutely wrong,” said Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R). “We have got to stop dividing American voters.”
It’s encouraging that many Republicans are repudiating the contemptuous, and contemptible, O’Reilly-Romney worldview.
Is American no longer traditional? Is ‘traditional’ a dog whistle for something else? What has changed radically recently? All roads lead me to suggest the obvious.
How do the Republicans get back in the saddle and start discussing ideas rather than relying on the sound-bytes from the many bases?
To the Democrats, Romney is just the gift that keeps on giving as he speaks of Obama giving gifts. It looks like Romney meant what he said in his 47% quote.
Mitt Romney? Is he still around? Why is the press paying any attention to that guy? Didn’t he lose an election or something?
He consumed our every thought for months on end. It isn’t a poof you are gone situation.
The sad thing is, he was so much better than the other high rollers. That’s what happens when you let extremists pick the candidate.
I guess that on the local scene, you could say that Mark Wolfe won the election this past May because he gave out free ballet tickets to all his friends and supporters. Yes that’s it, that is how he beat Miller and Aveni. Perhaps the Reps should consider this in 2016, it will be the only chance they have against Hillary.
This is why Repugs will continue losing elections.
Many of the Republicans are distancing themselves from Romney faster than greased lightning.
Romney just sounds illogical. What free things? I think we call those free things ‘policy.’
So what were the free things from Bush? RX Medicare D (for which Mr. Howler is mighty thankful) and NCLB, tax cuts. You know–policy.
Lindsey Grahm was fabulous when addressing the most recent comments by Mitt.
And I quote from Senator Graham:
“You know, people can be on public assistance and scheme the system. That’s real. And these programs are teetering on bankruptcy. But most people on public assistance don’t have a character flaw. They just have a tough life. I want to create more jobs and the focus should be on how to create more jobs, not demonize those who find themselves in hard times.”
Too bad Graham didn’t stop demonizing the Prez.
If the policy is to give more benefits, that’s the “free stuff.”
Workers should be compensated well and should have benefits. That isn’t what I call free stuff. In fact, I don’t buy into free stuff.
I have caught the attitude about the 47% and my place in it for the past year. I don’t feel like I am getting anything I haven’t paid in to.
Free stuff my butt!
