No one can deny that weather events are getting bigger and bolder.  Snowmageddon, Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, the recent nor-easter, this waterspout.

What the laymen can’t seem to agree on is the cause for this aberrant weather.  The weathermen mostly agree that it is due to climate change.  What do YOU think is causing all these strange weather events?

December 21 is coming. We’re doomed!!! The Mayans said so, and have they ever been wrong? 🙂

  2. Sandy, while big, was only a Category 1. Or are you just speaking about overall width of the hurricane.

What strange weather events? Seems normal to me. We’ve always had weather like this, we just have better reporting.

    Don’t forget…Hurricane Camille, etc.

    1. What isn’t usual is a hurricane coming through and destroying the Jersey and New York shore, then roaring up and tearing up New England. It was not jut a hurricane.

Cargo, you come from an area that shouldn’t be built on in the first place. It’s below sea level.

I also think most people would say Katrina was an exceptional storm.

Think if Sandy had come in as a 5. I think Sandy was 1000 miles across. That made Sandy unique. There has never been a storm that big in recorded weather history.

My kids loved Snowmageddon – didn’t even care that the power went out. We’ve got a nice gas fireplace and a kerosene heater. They were disappointed when we had virtually no snow last year.

You are right. It was a very wide storm. Katrina, too, was also very large.

And remember, New Orleans is actually above sea level at the French Quarter. Its the rest of the city that is lower….and sinking. NOLA was built for a very valid reason….it’s the only “dry” (for values of dry) land between the river and Lake Pontchartrain. When the local indians deeded the property to the French, the laughter could be heard for miles.
