The new year seems pretty grim. Most of us don’t look forward to the new taxes that are looming. Some of us will pay thousands more in taxes. Our investments will be taxed, our pay roll taxes will increase, and all the tax brackets will rise. I just looked at the changes tonight and it literally made me sick. Thank you Republicans. I would rather not have to pay these. 98% of us would rather not have to pay these.
Maybe this Republican horror can be sweetened with the start up of season 3 of Downton Abbey. If you have never watched, it is a treat to behold. January 6 is the start of this highly acclaimed show on PBS.

Oh, yes!
I thought that would make your day, Emma.
We will have a Downton Abbey Club here.
I have a cousin who actually had a party where the guests played the parts of the characters.
I’m in. Emma- not sure you saw a book reconmmendaion buried under assault weapon discussion – Buddebbrooks by Thomas Mann
Have you read Budderbbrooks? Wasn’t Thomas Mann one of those old dudes? What else did he write?
This series is something that I’m sure my cousin who is a costume designer/director in NYC would never miss. The dresses can’t get any better than those on the show.
Censored, do you watch?
You can catch up on all the past episodes for about 3 more days at pbs.
@Moon-howler
I watched the first year and then forgot to tune in to the second. Then I couldn’t get the second year and have just watched snippets since. Maggie Smith’s performances and the costumes are the best parts of it in my opinion.
What do you think will happen since the main male lead doesn’t appear to be returning?
Who are you calling the male lead? Character. I dont know the actors.
You can catch up on pbs right now. Its all there on the computer.
Dan Stevens (Matthew) continues through Season 3 which is starting in the US next week. He won’t return in Season 4 – which is just beginning to be filmed.
Thomas Mann – old guy – yep.
Maybe there can be a body double. Is Matthew the poor relation who inherited the title and estate because of the titanic? I need to review the thing, I can tell.
@Lyssa I must have missed it. That looks great–bought it for my Kindle. Thanks!
Emma, what model of kindle are you using now? I have a 2nd generation kindle (no backlight) last years nook hd as a gift, and ipad.
Now my dilemma is which book to buy.
I have the old E-ink WiFi Kindle (maybe that’s 2nd generation?). I still like it because the battery lasts forever, the print is easy for me to read, and I can see it on the beach, unlike the backlit versions. Plus I’ve dropped it a few times in my travels, and it’s no worse for the wear. I’m not sure the iPad would be as forgiving.
That is the type Kindle I have. It is very forgiving. You are right. The ipad wouldn’t be as forgiving.
I can also put it on the computer or the ipad.
It will come as no surprise to anyone here that I am the model for the Lord Grantham character. I know that it is difficult to visualize those with whom we converse on these blogs. However, if one just keeps the Crawley family patriarch in full view, you’ll have a good idea. If only I were not a creature of the late 19th, early 20th century, I would craft an avatar to give this claim full effect.
I could probably help you with it.
I am glad you are an Downton fan. It just seems right that you are.

It all looked wonderful and very difficult to prepare!!!
