This really has to be a joke! NO head for 6 years. Insane. This is the most neutered agency in the federal government. This agency needsd to be fired back up, records need to be computerized, and the NRA and those congressmen under its wallet spell need to butt out.

19 Thoughts to “There goes the BOOM: Neutering the ATF”

  1. OR.. we can get come common sense. Put the ATF under the FBI. Why do we have an agency to regulate Alcohol and Tobacco again? Those are legal commodities.

Why do we have an agency that is allowed to define the word “firearm” at their whim? That will declare an item legal, then be allowed to change that definition, making the users of such things into criminals. Perhaps if any candidates were not so anti-gun that they were acceptable?

Besides, why do they need a head of agency? They seem to be able to run guns to Mexico quite well, as is.

    1. They do. Why do you care? What candidates are you talking about?

  2. Here’s the Tiarht info:

    http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/fact-sheets/2013/tiahrt.aspx

Nothing prevents the ATF from tracing the gun back to the dealer. Said dealer WILL have on record, the buyer.

Also, there’s only about 50K dealers in America.

The original candidates, I can’t remember their names now, were very pro-gun control. Now..they’re just your standard CYA bureaucrat trying not to get smeared with the F&F scandal.

I saw this segment. It’s infuriating. It’s very frustrating that the NRA works against the cause of law and order. It’s also deeply frustrating that this comedy show is the only outlet effectively connecting these dots.

    1. Totally agree Rick.

I am in the middle of looking at the time line on VA Tech killer Cho. Amazing how many times the ball was dropped. It isn’t just guns. Its mental health also.

He was buying ammo on ebay and he bought one of his weapons on the internet.

      2007

      Friday, February 2
Cho ordered a handgun online. He purchased the .22 caliber Walther P22 on the Internet from TGSCOM, Inc.[22][23][24]

      Friday, February 9
Cho picked up the .22 caliber Walther P22 from J-N-D Pawnbrokers pawnshop in Blacksburg, Virginia[22][23] across the street from the school.[25]
      He killed on April 17

  5. @Moon-howler
He did order it in the internet, but, remember, he still had to go through all of the background checks.

    1. Supposedly. Why did he get to go retrieve it from a pawn shop.

I think maybe its time to start treating guns as tools that can do irreparable damage in the hands of the wrong people. What a novel idea.

Back to the ATF. The NRA has made it a cause to castrate this agency. Stewart (as often happens) illustrates this through satire and comedy more clearly that mere news coverage. Any Member of Congress complicit with the gun industry in effecting these dilutions, should be placed squarely in the spotlight of public opinion and voted out of office. We can’t tolerate this any longer.

That my friend, CS, doesn’t like the structure of the agency or would have picked a different Administrator if the choice was his, doesn’t detract from the point that the NRA has found willing confederates to undermine the effectiveness of this agency.

I was on their ATF’s side. BD’s were child molesters.

Christie: NRA ad with Obama daughters ‘reprehensible’
By Olivier Knox, Yahoo! News | The Ticket – 3 hrs ago

Blunt-speaking New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, thought to be eyeing a 2016 run for the Republican presidential nomination, blasted an NRA ad that mentions President Barack Obama’s daughters as “reprehensible” and warned it “demeans” the powerful gun-rights group.

“To talk about the president’s children, or any public officer’s children, who have—not by their own choice, but by requirement—to have protection, and to use that somehow to try to make a political point is reprehensible,” Christie said.

I agree with Gov Christie. The NRA is a vile and repugnant organization

  9. @Moon-howler
    Really? Child molesters?

I don’t think that the law ever presented any evidence of that.
Also, why didn’t they just arrest the guy when he was out?
And if they were child abusers, why weren’t they being charged with THAT instead of arms violations?

    1. Marrying off 12 and 14 year olds to old men? that screams child molester to me.

I was on their ATF’s side. BD’s were child molesters.

So their solution was to burn the victims of the child-molesters to death. That’s what happened.

And at Ruby Ridge the FBI HRT’s solution to a Non-hostage situation was to shoot an innocent woman in the head, while she held her infant son.

So much for all the arguments that the NRA’s image is shot:

  12. @Moon-howler
    I’ve done further research. Ok.

Now…how was storming that compound supposed to protect the children? When the adults living there routinely were out in public?

WACO was a publicity stunt. The ATF thought that it would be a “short glorious war” and that they would be ensured of not being dissolved. Because that was being considered at the time.

    1. You really aren’t looking at objective material. I think that the Branch Davidians wanted to make Custer’s last stand on the issue.

Do you really think it is productive to discuss what some out of mainstream religion did to make their stand?

I support Janet Reno’s directive. That’s my discussion on the matter.

That religious group was abusing young girls based on eye witness reports from survivors and escapees.

  13. I agree with you on the charges. I think that they should have taken them down in another way. The way the FBI attempted was a complete and utter tactical failure.
