Politico.com:

Fox News had its worst ratings since 2001 in January, according to the latest figures.

The network had a 12-year low in the coveted 25-54 demographic in primetime and fell to its lowest total day ratings since 2008, a press release from rival cable channel MSNBC stated on Tuesday.

And January marked the worst month ever for Fox’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” among the 25-54 demo, as well as the channel’s lowest total viewership in the 10 p.m. hour since July 2008.

At  MSNBC, the cable network saw its ratings go up 11 percent in the 25-54 demo compared to January 2012. And “The Rachel Maddow Show” topped CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” this month, and also ranked number one among the 18-34 demo.

Fox News, meanwhile, had nine of the 10 top programs in January — Maddow’s show was the only non-Fox News program to enter the top 10, in the last slot, as the Huffington Post pointed out.

Boo hoo, so sad.  Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.  It looks like the ride is over for a while.  Perhaps all the lies they told finally turned people off.  Where has Dick Morris been lately?  How about that anti immigration dude?  I have repressed his name.  Too bad the bad ratings hit Greta Van Susteren to worst.  Other than her infatuation with Sarah Palin, she is a pretty decent sort and the least biased of any of the night time crew.

Cheers for Rachel Maddow.  There are few people in the field who are as professional as Rachel Maddow.  I think one of the best all around informative shows on is Morning Joe.  Joe Scarborogh really pisses me off half the time.  Mika can get on her high horse also.  She just makes you want to slap her when she gets on the subject of nutritian. They aren’t always the nicest people and Joe is often down right rude, especially in his treatment of women.  So why did I just praise the show?  It is one of the best talk shows going.  Their line up is generally excellent.

This morning they had Al Gore on, talking about his new book.  Then they had Bill Gates on talking about the foundation’s attempt to eradicate polio as a disease and what really had to happen before their goal was accomplished.    The days I don’t watch are the ones when Mika’s father is on.  Yawn.

They better bring Palin back quickly.

Dick Morris is on The Five @5PM. That show is a bunch of fools having a round-robin style show.

My question for Fox News is this.. What’s going with Shepard Smith? They seem to have him “off” at least one day a week lately. I’ve heard rumors Murdock was trying to oust Shep. If they oust him, I’m out.

    1. I wont watch the five then. I actually like the dem man and Donna Perino. I won’t watch anything with Dick Morris on it. He makes me ill to look at him.

I also don’t like that middle of the night dude…Greg someone. He is a silly, flippant ass. The other two women….trained bimbos.

Murock is eyeing Piers Morgan. He is also a gun control person…Murdock that is.

“Fox News, meanwhile, had nine of the 10 top programs in January “…I don’t know. It seems while their ratings may have slipped in certain demos, they are still beating their comptetition. As far as Murdoch goes, he’s a smart businessman. He knows he gets almost 100% of conservative viewers, and this is FNC’s niche. Bringing on Piers Morgan will only result in losing viewership.

    1. I think Fox News is still winning because of the senior vote. The under 65 group is what was dropping off significantly.

When they hired fire on the water Dennis Kuccinch, they lost their soul.

Maddow, for her part, had a big increase in ratings over the 11. pm repeat of O’Reilly allowing her to be the only non-Fox program in the top ten. And that my dear mother is why the POTUS feels compelled to attack and blame american resistance to his programs on a CABLE channel.

  5. Dennis Kuccinch is on Fox News now? bwaaaaahahahahahahahahah

MSNBC gets Michael Steele and Fox News gets Kuccinch? Too funny. I think MSNBC got the better of the deals, myself.

Once again, blue, you have no idea what you are talking about. Rachel Maddow is on at 9, 12, and 4 am. You missed it all the way around. Ed Schultz is on at the 11 pm slot against repeating Bill. He is also on at 8, opposing O’Reilly there also.

Now what is it you are saying about Rachel Maddow?

  6. How is having, even with lower ratings, 9 out of the 10 top shows…bad news?

Interesting if true Moon. I got it from an article on the ratings issue. No way I can stay up that late and get to work, but I can see where you get your talking points. The article did not mention that hateful, over the top and crazy Schultz, but he has a national audience about the size of Manassas so who cares.

    1. Ed Schultz isn’t for everyone. He is sort of like liberal Hannity.

You have 2 choices if you want to watch Rachel. Catch her at 9 pm or record her. I wasn’t recommending Ed Scultz.

I like 2 shows on MSNBC–Morning joe and Rachel Maddow. Joe Scarborough can be a real ass at times but it is a very good show because of the variety of guests they have on to talk the topics.

Oh and MSNBC is doubling down on their success by scheduling that beacon of light and intellect Rosanne Barr to have a news talk show. MSLSD is going for broke. I am sure she will help in the debate of ideas.

    1. When will that be? I will try to avoid that time slot. Hopefully that is just a masty rumor.

Cargosquid :How is having, even with lower ratings, 9 out of the 10 top shows…bad news?

When high unemployment, increasing poverty-rates, and growing welfare and foodstamp rolls are called a “recovery”, having 9 of 10 top shows is a “decline”. As Orwell said: “Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.”

    @Steve Thomas

Or when a family is doing great when:

the annual fimily income is $ 21,700
the money the family spent is 38,000
the current year credit card debt is 16,500
the carry over credit card debt is 165,000

and you tell the bank that you will cut back next year by- wait for it — $ 385

Add 8 zeros and you have the Financial Statement of the US!

Faux News is the old geezer set’s answer to the National Enquirer. Instead of the latest salacious news on Hollywood stars it caters to the fearful with emphasis on crime, “botched” government plots or ploys, and daily doom. It relies on its audience being glued to their seats all day long out of fear of venturing to their neighborhood grocery without being shot by a gang-banger.

But even that group has some liberals and moderates – those who’ve fought the battles for reproductive and civil rights, those who have paid into a system that promised benefits, those who go about their daily work or play without constant fears of “what ifs”.

Faux’s audience will die off – many prematurely by heart attacks and stress brought on by listening to it.

I imagine Faux’s election night coverage was enough to finally help people understand how biased they truly are in the world of “fair and balanced”. The behavior of Karl Rove was bizarre at best.

    1. Dick Morris wasn’t exactly normal. Up until the bitter end he was 200% positive Romney was going to win.
