eggs

You know, maybe it’s time for a little fun and relaxation, time to take a breath and remember that life is short and children can be our best way to ground ourselves.

There is a community easter egg hunt being organized by the Coles District, via Supervisor Nohe.

Look, in my house, the non denomination Easter Bunny comes every year, he leaves baskets full of goodies at the front door for my kids.  I LOVE watching their faces as they delve through the basket.  I have to get my plug in though for fair trade chocolate here.

Here is the information if you are interested in attending!

Bring your Easter basket and camera and join me for a new event, the Coles District Easter Egg Hunt. The event will feature Easter egg hunts for all ages, games, prizes, refreshments and a visit from a very special guest. The event is free for all Prince William County families, but pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, click to attend this event, call my office at (703)792-4620 or send an e-mail to [email protected]. I hope to see you on March 16th!
Why is this Easter egg hunt  under attack and creating such a viseral backlash?   I don’t know.  Ask the Sheriff.  He and his minions have an irrational focus on Supervisor Nohe.
We were disappointed in Mr. Nohe’s vote on Stonehaven but we don’t hate the man personally.  He is involved in his community and he always is willing to lend a hand to someone with a problem, even if that person doesn’t live in his district.   We both know this from personal experience.
The Sheriff is looking for any excuse to turn chicken salad into chicken whatever.    The Sheriff’s  obsession and almost  palatible dislike of Marty  actually negates any credible  criticism of the supervisor’s policies.
What might be valid criticism of those who voted for a huge development has fallen down the abyss of politics of person destruction.   The Sheriff just looks overly critical  and mean at this point.
A county supervisor should be promoting community events.  We need more events that bring our diverse community together, not fewer.  Marty Nohe, his wife and kids, and his staff are setting a good example by lending their support.  Similarly, Pete Candland repaired some bridges when he came out, rolled up his sleeves and hauled junk at the Westgate/Sudley Clean up Day last spring.
Egg hunts, holiday parades, and park events are all ways to build that sense of community that improves the quality of life in Prince William County.  Do we inspect every event where a supervisor appears to see if his or her staff called  over something or picked up a phone to answer a question?  I sure hope not.  Are you watching closely to see that Corey doesn’t use a county pen on his campaign trail?  Let’s not go towards the absurd.  Unfortunately, the Sheriff isn’t willing to apply his standard across the board, to all of the supervisors.   If the county participates in parades or in egg hunts, it is a good use of county funds if it promotes family fun and community building.
No, this isn’t a trip to the woodshed.  We are just tired of mean viciousness under the guise of being a watch dog.  We see muck raking and gossip mongering rather than a good and faithful watchdog.

36 Thoughts to “Community Easter Egg Hunt under attack”

  1. Ivan

    This issue seems to have another local blogger in a big tizzy. Boy, how the mighty have fallen.

  2. Lafayette

    I can NOT for the life of me understand why a COMMUNITY event such as this is coming under attack. Give me a break. I applaud Marty’s effort. Especially since this is an area that’s new to his district. I sure don’t recall the prior supervisor hosting events in that area of his district. I’ attended a county clean up day last year at Reading Park with numerous activities for the kiddos in one of the most unpublized parks in the county. It really is a nice quiet park. I was hoping to volunteer for this event, even though iit is not in my district. I know some would have liked to seen portion of the neighborhood in the New Coles District. However, I have other obligations this Satuday.

    There’s also a county clean up scheduled in this same area later this spring. I guess it’s going to come under attack too. What a crying shame, that we have a supervisor under attack for promoting our community. Shame on the Sherrif. I’m so glad I’ve NEVER wasted time on reading her/his non-sense.

    Chris 🙂

    @Lafayette

    Good summary. The brouhaha over the Easter egg hunt sounds ridiculous – like a bunch of old geezers whining. I’m sure they’ve taken advantage of some county benefit in their life times and now they begrudge some children having a bit of fun. (It was a good idea to choose Reading Park. The grassy area of our local favorite park is also the favorite of many Canada geese and their droppings. Easter eggs and goose poop don’t make a good combo.)

  4. Elena

    I hope there is a nice turn out for this event. It sounds perfectly nice and a wonderful to build community. Even if a few tax dollars have been utilized, this a positve event for the community.

    Thanks. This is a very unique area of the county as it borders MP. Many of those Yorkshire area residents frequent Costello Park, and the same can be said for the MP residents frequenting Reading Park. I’m sure that too would pose some sort of issue for The S.

    You’ve also, got me thinking forward to spring. I can’t wait til The S does their homework for the location of the clean up. I feel certain that IBC will not set well since it’s a county sponsored event. I can’t stop shaking my head. You owe me a beer the next time I see you. 😉

    I missed Elena’s portion about Pete coming to the neighborhood last summer. We were all impressed. And I am talking about a “tough crowd” to boot. I got a call from AK, asking when I would be at Sudley Elem with the truck. Pete was there and was ready to go with me to an older couples home to pick up some junk for the dumpsters. This couple had contacted the NW, who in turn contacted me. AK and myself assist one house in need every year. Well, when we got to the couples’ home. We couldn’t believe our eyes. We took three truck loads away. Two of which were hanging over the sides and quite tall. Pete was right in there with me the entire time loading/unloading the truck. Luckily, when we got back to Sudley we had neighbors and the awesome County Clean Up Crew.

    Thanks for getting me FIRED UP!! It’s just what I needed, it’s been quite the week. You owe me a beer the next time I see you. 😉

    1. I thought that would fire you up. Elena and I both worked on that post. I am glad you got fired up and yes, Pete did have a tough crowd to please. Word got out though and it is because he did involve himself–

      The Sheriff needs to realize that the election is 3 years away and that people in PWC appreciate seeing their supervisors out in public in community events–whether its the Jenkins at the July 4th parade, Mike May supporting the blue Bell festival, Marty and his crew at an Easter egg hunt, Pete at Haymarket Day, etc.

    Good beer is getting easier to find! We used to make our own but don’t have to any more. We’re joining the rest of the Irish and Hispanic crew (as well as a few with British ancestry) for St. Patty’s. B-I-L makes some good home brew.

    It’s good that you guys introduced your Board member to the rest of his district.

  7. Lyssa

    Grumpy old men is right 🙂

    Same drone regardless of the topic. Not to mention terribly flawed arguments. M

    1. I would hate to be that angry all the time. It sort of misses the jouous bit of Easter,doesn’t it?

      Its hard to imagine finding happiness when one finds such horrible fault with EVERYONE.

      @Lyssa

  8. Lyssa

    And that third person thing – snicker snicker…

    Anyway, I may go just to swell the count 🙂

  9. clueless

    I almost posted to the Sheriff’s blog about this topic and decided that I had already showered today and did not need a second one. A community event is now a terrible waste of OUR hard earned $$$, Good job to the Sheriff of Moron to confirm my suspicious that he/she is in it for the taxpayer.

  10. Its really too bad that differences in policy are handled in such a vitriolic, personal way.

    There is just no reason for a good deed to be turned into a personal attack.

    Those who know Marty know that he walks the walk and talks the talk when it comes to kids and families. You might not agree with him about policy (sometimes I don’t) but I have never ever doubted his sincerity.

    I wonder how many of those sitting behind their computer screens, posting anonymously, would describe themselves as good church going Christians? 🙄 Somehow that always seems to come up.

  11. Lafayette

    What happened to love thy neighbor? Clearly, it’s not the norm in PWC. 🙁

  12. Mom

    @Lafayette
    Does that mean you’re going to go a few blocks over and give someone a hug?

  13. Lafayette

    @Mom
    Nice to see what brings you out of the woodwork, Mom!!! I think I’ll hit a local watering hole tonight and hug my more distant neighbors. As for the neighbor you mention, I’ll get the hug the next time I see them at the gas station, snaggin’ the suds.

  14. Watching

    I think the Sheriff is running out of things to complain about and things to try to whip everybody up. I think he believes if he tears down almost everyone then it will work out the way he wants.

    1. @Watching, but he is actually doing so much damage to the person he thinks he is helping. It has become sooo transparent.

  15. Frank Johnson

    I wonder what folks think is different between what Marty is doing and Frank Wolf?

    Congressman Frank Wolf
    I want to remind you about two upcoming events in the 10th District for high school students. First, the annual 10th District Art Show will be held this coming Thursday in Loudoun County, which will feature more than 300 pieces created by area high school students. The winner of the “Best In Show” award will hang in the U.S. Capitol later this year. Second, my office’s annual Academy Day will be held on Saturday, April 6, also in Loudoun, for any high school student interested in attending one of the nation’s military academies. I urge you to share this information with families who may be interested in participating.

    1. Great point, Frank. Welcome to Moonhowlings.
      I immediately thought of the Easter Egg roll on the White House Lawn. That has been around since FDR, at least.

      I expect elected officials to participate in community activities. There are so many and local officals are paid so little,m I have no problem with them getting to go gratis. We expect a great deal from our local officials and if blogs are any example, we don’t treat them or their families very well for their efforts.

  16. Lafayette

    I’d like to know why the S has not addressed this Easter Egg Hunt at Rippon Lodge. I guess since there’s a small fee, it’s A-ok with the new S in town. Doesn’t the S like to go after D’s too? Seems like Frank might come under fire too.

    Fill a basket at the annual Rippon Lodge Egg Hunt! March 30th from 11am-4pm. Hunts are at 11am and 1pm. $5 per child who is egg collecting. $1 off with a non perishable food donation. Call 703-499-9812 for more information.

    1. I guess Marty is just the lucky one. Doesn’t Rippon Lodge belong to the county?

  17. Lafayette

    Clarification. Frank is not sponsoring this event. However, the flyer does mention the Public Works Dept.. I do NOT want to see any dept, supervisor, etc. attacked for such a community event. It sure seems like the S would be up in arms over this too. Well, maybe not since it was not mentioned by Marty.

    I hope there’s a HUGE turn out for the festivities at Reading Park tomorrow.

    1. I didn’t realize Reading Park was over here in Yorkshire.

      @lafayette

  18. Elena

    When people become such zealots that they can no longer distinguish between real issues and contrived, they have lost their battle. I contend the Sheriff has so diluted his original premise of fair and transparent government that he risks having the full impact he initially brought to PWC and for that I am saddened.

  19. Lafayette

    I really is sad. Blogs should be for good and sharing facts, not petty non-sense. I had no idea that hunting for eggs was such a problem. It’s one of those childhood activities, that most never outgrow and enjoy.

  20. Anonymous not allowed

    A come on folks. Don’t you know how many tax dollars would be saved by the commoners if we can just get rid of Supervisor (insert name here) and these wasteful easter egg hunts? (insert insulting remark about Supervisor of choice hear).

    Only after we eradicate this county of the easter eggs, swimming pools, and half the BOCS will this it be fit for the commoners. (Insert insulting remark about the County Executive and/or School Superintendent here).

    Sincerely,

    Anonymous Sheriff of Nottingham Blog Reader and Poster

    Moon-howler :I didn’t realize Reading Park was over here in Yorkshire.
    @lafayette

    Oh, yea! It’s right next to the water tower and the old PWCSA building, which sits vacant. It’s NOTHING like our neighborhood park.

  23. Lyssa

    The Sheriff of ROTTINGham …. Well, best left unsaid.

    1. @Lyssa

      Shall I imitate Mr. howler doing the announcement….? Heralding in the arrival…..[evil grin] …. 😈

  25. Oh the shame of it all. Gasp.

  26. Elena

    Look, Moon and I are not exactly proponents of blurring the line between Church and State, we have made our views crystal clear. However, as the resident Jew on this blog, I can safely assure people, I do not see the Easter Bunny as religious, maybe that makes me a bad Jew ;), but I don’t care.

    We have fun with Easter Baskets, full of fun stuff and yummie chocolate. It sounds like this event will be a wonderful 90 minutes of fun. I am sorry that some people have gotten their panties in a bind over this, what a colossal waste of energy. The Sheriff whipped people up into a frenzy where none should have existed. This event is open to ALL citizens and I for one think community events are integral components of building a healthy society.

  27. You don’t have to be Irish to like Leprechauns, rainbows, and pots of gold on March 17.

    Plenty of Muslims and Jews participate in Egg Hunts with the Bunny, even if he is the Easter Bunny.

    He is just a symbol of the season, sort of like a wreath on the door. Is Santa Claus Christian? Nahhhhhh.

  28. I would say that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are secular emmissaries. They reach out across the culture of America and invite everyone to participate in the fun, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
