The parents and some victims of the VA Tech mass murder  continue to press for tighter  gun restrictions  for those who shouldn’t have guns, like Cho.  Colin Goddard who survived multiple gun shot wounds April 16, 2007 continues to push for comprehensive background checks for all those purchasing firearms.

According to wjla.com:

Tuesday marks the sixth anniversary of the shootings. Virginia  Governor Bob McDonnell has named April 16 as the official day of  remembrance.

At the stroke of midnight, a ceremony candle was lit and will remain lit for  24 hours.

At 9:43 Tuesday morning, a statewide moment of silence was observed followed  by the reading of every victim’s name.

Mary Read’s father read the names of all the victims.  Colin Goddard spoke.

“We had bullets coming through our door, and everyone hit the floor,” sad  survivor Colin Goddard.

Since surviving the shooting, Goddard has focused his energy on gun control.  Joined by families from Tucson, Aurora and Newtown, Goddard is urging Congress  to pass comprehensive background checks.

Goddard added, “It’s the best step we can take as a country if we want to get  serious about keeping guns from dangerous people.”

Their fight will be a tough one as many in Congress say they will stand for  the Second Amendment.

But it’s a fight Peter Read is ready for.

“I really can’t give up, because I have to speak for Mary,” he said. “…I  have to speak for other victims.”

Colin Goddard has become quite controversial with particular animus being shown towards him by the 2nd amendment crowd.  Certainly he has a weighted opinion because of his own brush with death.  I feel his point should be not only heard but also acted upon.  His film, Living for 32, may be digitally downloaded from Amazon, itunes, and other film media sights.

17 Thoughts to “Parents and victims of VA Tech massacre maintain vigil”

  1. Would any that have survived such crimes and become 2nd amendment supporters and opponents of gun control get the same weighted opinion?

Why should Goddard get to be an “expert” because he survived wounds? What is his expertise that allows him to tell others that they are better off being disarmed? Was HE better off being disarmed?

    1. It depends….I don’t think that is what he is saying also. I think he is saying that he would be better off if Cho and people like him were disarmed.

Do you think the parents and survivors of those shot at Sandy Hook carry any weight in the old opinion punch bowl?

  2. Starry flights

Cargo and the gun huggers fight for the rights of murderers, drug dealers, psychos, terrorists, rapists, child molesters and other assorted freaks to bear arms. This is why they oppose background checks . Normal people believe such individuals shouldn’t have guns .

    1. Starry, I know Cargo. He is certainly not fighting for the rights of drug dealers, psychos, child molesters, etc.

I am not sure why he opposes background checks but I know it isn’t that reason. He is a good person who simply has a different point of view on this subject than some of us do. I would like to see background checks for everyone. No, it won’t stop all gun violence but its a place to start. We have to start somewhere. Then perhaps we can tighten laws on those who should not have guns.

  3. Starryflights

Well, despite the fact that 90 percent of the public supports background checks and despite that a majority of Senators supported it, a handful of senators, beholden to the NRA, defeated all the related measures by exploiting senate rules.

Congratulations gun huggers. You can do your happy dance on the graves of the Newtown kids. What’s a couple dozen dead kids compared to our gun rights.

  4. I support background checks. I do not support bills with other draconian provisions attached. There were many problems with the M-T amendment. That’s why I didn’t support it.
Here’s some info why: http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/345845/problems-toomey-manchin Even Gottleib, who helped formulate the bill, walked away from it.

The rude hyperbole by Starry is something I see every day. CSGV supporters have already wished gun rights supporters to be poisoned with Ricin: http://gunfreezone.net/wordpress/index.php/2013/04/17/csgv-the-laddites-are-for-peace-and-open-mindedness/

    1. That’s a fairly serious charge…re ricin.

  5. @Starryflights
Since you are being rudely blunt….

It is people like you that are dancing on the graves of the victims. You politicize EVERY TRAGEDY…as you did the Boston bombing. YOU are the ones dancing in the blood of innocents, waving the bloody shirt. Every time that there is a shooting, people like you seem to jump at the chance to blame all gun owners for the crimes of a few. You insult people. You equate them to murderers for supporting Constitutional rights. You refuse to accept that they are working in good faith.

Your 90% statistic was a lie. Those polled have no clue what was in those bills. And when people do find out….those bills lose support. A majority of Senators also supported reciprocity for permit carriers in ALL 50 STATES. Did you know that?

Did you bother to realize that it was REID and the Democrats that decided to use the 60 vote rule on these amendments? http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/04/17/the-gun-amendments-need-60-votes-to-pass-but-why/

The problem with people like you is that all you do is run by and cause trouble and insult people. You are acting as a troll. You don’t care about any of those hurt or killed. You just want to score political points. I’ve ignored you for the most part because I was asked to.

Like Wolverine said, way back when: LOOK! A squirrel!

    1. I would prefer that everyone cut the insults. I don’t like any of the tone on the blog. This isn’t directed at Cargo alone but to everyone who is fighting.

It doesn’t matter what Wolverine said. He chose not to be here.

The quote is at the link…on Facebook. Isn’t image capture wonderful.

  7. Wolverine

Oh, I’m still here, Moon. Tsk, Tsk. I still cannot believe that you and Elena allowed Starryflights to call George a “retard” last month.

    1. What do you want me to do about it? I know George personally. I know he is more than capable of fighting his own battles.

Good to see you Wolverine. How is Mrs. Wolverine? Has she had your pelt nailed to the wall recently?

    1. Cargo, it’s like you summoned Wolverine!!! What else can you do??????

  8. Wolverine

    Hello, gang.

As a matter of fact, Mrs. W has been patting herself on the back for keeping my pelt from being nailed to the wall. Early last year, they wheeled me into the OR, got out their long knives and sliced me open from ear to lower neck. From that mess of blood and guts they extracted a tumor about the size of a golf ball. They scraped it all out of there but could not avoid cutting the nerve to the lower ear, so now I have a no-feel lower ear and part of the jaw. Oh, and the tumor was benign. The subsequent scar made it difficult to shave at first, so I grew a beard. At first, Mrs. W said I looked like Robert E. Lee. But seeing as how I am rather ham-handed with a beard trimmer, the thing grew and grew like Topsy; and now Mrs. W says that all I need is a helmet with horns and I would look like one of my Viking ancestors.

Then, along about October, the legs started to go. Been working on that one, and am moving once again. Doggone lousy getting old. On top of everything else, the mother-in-law died and left Mrs. W a big farm in another state. Then the drought killed all the corn and most of the soybeans. Last month I looked at the IRS site, saw all those darned forms and schedules and whereas and wherefors and had to hire a tax preparer for the first time in my life. To add to the misery, we were right in the middle of doing some legal stuff with the farm when our attorney was arrested for murdering her father and her father’s female companion. So, the crops have died, the taxes are a headache, and our lawyer is up on murder one charges. At least Ms. W did not find “a fine time to leave me.” However, at one point it looked like the easier path might have been for both of us to pack a bag and rejoin the US Navy. Then the cutest little bug of a new granddaughter was born……Well, it’s been quite a year.

    1. What a horrible year! So glad your health issues are resolving and that you now look like a Viking. Our condolances to Mrs. W over the loss of her mother.

The coupe de grace must have been the attorney being arrested for murder. I hope you have found another one!

  9. @Wolverine
    HOLY FREAKING COW!!!!!!!!

    Whew.

Am VERY glad that you are healthy, under certain values of “healthy, that is…….. 🙂

There HAS to be a country song or blues song in there somewhere…..
