14 Thoughts to “The freedom lovers at Faux News jettison Constitutional amendments”

  1. Heh.

I’ve see pundits from both sides of the aisle advocating a lot of this. Heck, even on Fox, the liberals were agreeing…. Beckel is a liberal.

The funny thing about the Miranda rights. He has had them all along. He knows this. He grew up watching TV. You don’t GET them when they read them to you…you are informed that they exist.

They can question him all they want…they just can’t use it in a trial against him. And they don’t need to question him about that. They have enough evidence for his trial.

    1. Beckel is more of a moderate. Its just the contrast that makes you think he is liberal. The only real liberal on Fox is Combs’s occassional guest appearance.

I think the point is, so many of them were pitching amendments left and right.

Truthfully, Cargo, did you laugh just a little?

These same pundits that are complaining about him, an American Citizen, being read his Miranda rights, are the same folks that complain that we Droned Al Awaki – a terrorist who renounced his Citizenship. They are just trying to stir the pot.

There is a difference when he is read his rights – once he is read his Miranda rights, nothing he said before then can be used against him at trial or discovery.

The best one I have seen is where Trump tweeted about him getting medical care, as Trump called it – Obamacare for his wounds. Ignoring Romney Care and Federal law which states that he must be given care.

He had to be read his miranda rights. He is an American citizen, captured on US soil, by civillian law enforcement. Even if he is eventually tried under a military tribunal, he’s still get the right to remain silent under the UCMJ. As soon as it was determined that there wasn’t another bomb, he needed to be mirandized to preserve the case against him. I have no issues with this.

Al Awaki is a bit more complicated. American who renounced his citizenship, actively providing aid and comfort to a designated enemy, and doing so in a foreign country. Due process rights are a bit murky here. I don’t want US military or intelligence operations using drone attacks on US soil. Runs afoul of the Posse Comitatus laws. Overseas, with a pretty solid case that the individual is represents a clear and present danger, with the appropriate judicial review, rules of engagement, etc., I’m not objecting to the President taking this action.

Moon, Beckel is a “classical liberal”, (his words).

    1. Nahhhh, he has been ‘turned’ by being on faux news. He might have been a classical liberal at one time, (whatever that is) but those days are long gone. He can say he’s anything he wants to say he is. I can say I am a horse. Neiggghhhhhhhh. It doesn’t make me a horse. Now, compared to YOU he is a liberal. Compared to me? Not so much. I guess liberal is relative. He’s liberalish about somethings. I wouldn’t give him his badge back though.

  5. Steve Thomas

A classical liberal is what most democrats were, before the 1972 Democrat convention, think Truman, Kennedy.

    1. Truman????? Oy Vey!

Half of the democrats I knew before the 72 convention were definitely not liberals. These people would have chopped their hand off before voting R.

I think you are thinking Boston.

My parents are classic northern liberals, as was my godfather. My dad IS nothing like the supposed faux liberal on faux news and certainly NOT my godfather! Hey, the 14th amendment was in dire need of change also from many on the right. Our laws are even MORE critical when it is not easy to implement them.

And as usual, Jon Stewart was awesome. Did anyone see Donald Trumps snide Jewish tweet about Stewart?

Can anyone show me where the late al-Awlaki actually renounced his US citizenship or had it withdrawn by the USG under current law, regulations, and jurisprudence? I believe that has always been an unresolved question before and after his death.

    1. Not I, cried the Howler.

This was a great segment. Not always but occasionally, “The Daily Show” provides a great analysis and synthesis unlike what anyone else seems capable of.

    1. Totally agree. not every time, but fairly often.
