MSNBC has suspended Alec Baldwin’s “Up Late” program for two weeks, after he made inappropriate comments to reporters including calling one a “f-g.”
The actor made threatening comments to a photographer in New York Thursday morning calling him a “c—sucking f-g,” according to TMZ.
“I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have – and for that I am deeply sorry,” Baldwin said in a statement posted on MSNBC.com. “Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support. I understand ‘Up Late’ will be taken off the schedule for tonight and next week.”
“I want to apologize to my loyal fans and to my colleagues at MSNBC – both for my actions and for distracting from their good work. Again, please accept my apology.”
Ya think? This dude’s mouth will continually get him in trouble. His filters are off. How long has his show even been on the air?
This one was very predictable. 2 weeks is nothing. At least Baldwin is pretending to be sorry. He must think he is another Mel Gibson.
Marketing. If the show doesn’t have viewers, suspending it doesn’t hurt and you have the buzz to build to a relaunch. This is the verbal equivalent of WWF wrestling….fake. This is all low budget promotion stuff. Bet some of you will watch the show to see if he slips. It is the same model as NASCAR, terribly boring while waiting for the unpredictable action..the smash up.
Now Gibson, that was probably real because it involved intoxication and wasn’t set up for the news media.
Baldwin’s got a serious issue, akin to Mel Gibson who you mention. I’m all for giving people second chances, and not magnifying the importance of a few words. But he’s done this over and over; he deserves to lose his show.
Definitely not Baldwin’s first time going postal. Not sure why he was given a show in the first place. All his filters have been off for a long time.
I agree with Ed. This is a promotional stunt that will be sure to increase his market share. Not enough to make me watch, but it will be effective none the less.
I don’t know, I’ve never been stalked by a crazed fan and I’ve never had to face obnoxious photographers also stalking me. I might call them something awful and I might not be politically correct when I did.
He used the same anti gay slurs in the past. Some of the terms are as offensive as bringing up mothers when using the F bomb or sons of moms…. Should we Moms protest?
I objected to how he talked to his daughter. Maybe she was a little bitch but he crossed the lines of decency. I have not liked him at all since.
You’re probably right, that probably is his worst moment. I’m sure some of it makes sense in context but ‘little pig” was out there.
The easiest way to deal with this is to not watch his show. If enough people don’t watch–guess what? No show.
