Dragon Tongue
Dragon Tongue

It’s that time again—Iris Season.  People love them or hate them.  I got my main iris garden off someone’s trash pile many years ago.  They have served me well, even though they aren’t the fancy kind.

You have to be careful with fancy iris, especially if you order collections of iris.  If you plant the near each other they will blend.  I thought this was BS when I first heard it, until I put in my fancy Schreiner iris.  They blended.

I have proof from pictures that the dominant colors took over the more recessive colors.  I guess that’s what happens with these hybrids.  I am not even sure I still have Dragon Tongue in my garden.

How about Denver?  Is winter really over?

Ah, who cares about flowers. Let’s argue about gay rights, or religion, or illegal immigration.

  2. Censored bybvbl

I envy you for being able to grow irises. The borers in my yard even love the small crested ones. I’ve given up on growing them although I’m tempted each spring to give it another try.

  3. @Rick Bentley

I care about flowers. I left a spot to argue about gay rights. How many spots do you want?

  4. Cargosquid

    @Rick Bentley
How do you know that those aren’t gay, Catholic, undocumented flowers?

  5. Some of them might be undocumented, judging from where I got the original batch of Iris.

    @Censored

Why don’t I dig some up in August for you?

I love Shreiners. Now I know that they will blend and become different iris than what you bought, I will do things differently.

  6. Rick Bentley

Moon, your pro-flowers bias is evident.

Hey, whatever happened to Cliven Bundy?

Hennity made some ridiculous comments last night about
what the US should do about the lost girls in Nigeria. Again,
    he suggests “military” invention.

Something has happened to Bill O’Reilly. He was arguing with
Britt Hume last night, while Hume simply had this smile on his face
that said “OK, old man, you’re out of it” and let him talk.
I don’t know why O’Reilly even bothers with so called guests on
his show, when he never let’s them finish a sentence.

And I don’t know, why I sometimes watcht the crumb! 🙂

    1. I ask myself that also sometimes, Punchak. I sometimes watch Hannity also. I think if my blood pressure feels low.

  8. Rick Bentley

I would like to see us help give a smackdown to the terrorists in Nigeria.

Big gang war going on over on the underwear blog. It seems that the Underwear King has attacked SERVE. I can’t think of a better organization for the county to partner with. Helping the needy. Shame of Marty Nohe for wanting to help with administrative costs so more could go to those in need.

    Charlie sez:

“You have no idea how much SERVE saves the taxpayers of this county. It is another partnership with a private non-profit.

Fine. Run them off. Refuse to support them. Absorb the cost of what they do. Let the taxpayers do it. You would think you were getting off real easy now.

Just because you can type doesn’t mean you have a brain.”

@Rick Bentley Rick, I am offended by your denial of the One True Iris.

According to today’s WaPost, Eric Cantor is facing a serious tea party challenge from a fellow named David Brat. The primary is in June. Cantor was booed at a fundraiser last weekend. His opponent has Anne Coulter’s endorsement. Brat has accused Cantor of supporting amnesty and Obamacare. The GOP is eating its own. I love it!

  12. Rick Bentley

I like that Cantor will take heat for his pro-illegal immigration efforts.

Iris Season: I have some I got from my former next door neighbor about 10 years ago when Helen decided to thin out the big bed she planted when she and her husband moved into the house in 1980….so these are many, many generations now. I have some planted in the front bed, and some planted in the big wildflower bed in the backyard.

I like to take the ash after I use my BBQ grill and spread it on the flower bed in back and other places around the yard. Low grade potash. Noticed this year, the Iris in back are a richer blue than the front.

    1. Interesting observation. You know, in this day of gas grills, I really miss charcoaled steaks and burgers. My iris bed that is generations old (taken from someone’s trash heap) needs a shot of color. Do you think wood ash would work as well? I will crank up the fire pit.

Do you have any exotic ones?

  14. Scout

Ray – I routinely scatter the ashes from my woodstove over the lawn and gardens. It seems do help, or at least it doesn’t seem to do any harm.

FCC approves plan to consider paid priority on Internet
    BY CECILIA KANG
    May 15 at 11:16 am

The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday voted in favor of advancing a proposal that could dramatically reshape the way consumers experience the Internet, opening the possibility of Internet service providers charging Web sites for higher-quality delivery of their content to American consumers.

The plan, approved in a three-to-two vote along party lines, could unleash a new economy on the Web where an Internet service provider such as Verizon would charge a Web site such as Netflix for faster video streaming. The proposal would, though, prohibit telecom firms from outright blocking Web sites.

The plan is not a final rule, but the vote on Thursday is a significant step forward on a controversial idea that has invited fierce opposition from consumer advocates, Silicon Valley heavyweights, and Democratic lawmakers. The FCC will now open the proposal to a total 120 days of public comment. Final rules, aimed
for the end of the year, could be rewritten after the agency reviews the public comments.

Critics of the plan, as it stands now, worry that it would mark the end of net neutrality, the principle that says that all content online should be treated equally by Internet service providers.

Thanks a lot republicans. The internet was great while it lasted. Nice knowing you, moon.

    @Moon-howler
Wood ash works fine….I also use the ash from my pellet stove. Blackberry patch I have loves it! No, no exotic iris. I’ll put a picture up on my FB page today so you can see them, Moon.

On the other hand, maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad thing thing if Comcast allocated high bandwidth to MSNBC and little to Fox News (as well as the Breitbarts, pj media, malkin) bahaha!

  18. Rick Bentley

I used to be a big believer in net neutrality. Because I saw the internet as a backbone for easy transfer of “information”.

But in practical terms its becoming a massive network used to deliver streaming video triviality to mobile devices of millions of nimrods coast to coast. Perhaps shifting that burden onto the stream providers and users is not a bad thing.

    Just got my grades…gotta brag!

    Straight A’s.

I’mma gonna celebrate. I be edumacated!!!!

    1. Congratulations, Cargo!

When do you finish up with it all?

  20. Cargosquid

    @Moon-howler
    About 2 more semesters…

  21. Cargosquid

    Suspend your disbelief.

    Go see a monster movie.

    Godzilla is great!

  22. Rick Bentley

    Congrats Cargo.

  23. Cargosquid

    @Moon-howler
Opening night. Go see the 3D version. It is a better movie.

    1. Daughter and family is going tonight. Not sure if they are going 3D or not. The 8 year old insists on going. They think it will scare her. She swears it will not and even has Godzilla toys.

This is the gdaughter who wanted Brave weapons instead of the dolls when she had earned a reward from me.

For anyone interested in documentaries, who is looking for a way to kill a few days sitting indoors in theater seats, this year’s AFI Docs schedule is announced : http://afi.com/afidocs/films/features.aspx#.U3zkVBBA6vg

  26. Rick Bentley

There are definitely some docs in there that relate to things we talk about here – illegal immigrants, government/intel whistleblowers, and numerous other topics.

Well, we just had a 3.2 earthquake rattle our house at 9:47 pm. It was just confirmed on the news.

    1. Could you feel it?

We did not feel it here but oddly enough, I thought I felt a tremor through my sofa earlier today. pre-quake? Not sure. I was cat napping and actually sat up over it. My sofa is older and has springs. Springs keep an earthquake going for a while.

What the Sheriff doesn’t want you to see–or he would have posted my comment.

All police department employees, both uniformed and non-uniformed, must conform with what is known as law enforcement general orders. This means that there is a strict workplace confidentiality code in place.

Whoever is pretending on Barfingham’s blog to be working for Chief Hudson isn’t. He isn’t real. Who would casually risk losing their job to talk to a blogger about confidential issues, against their boss? No one with any sense.

Just because the Sheriff of Barfingham won’t let a comment through, doesn’t mean it won’t appear somewhere. That’s what you get when you have an anonymous blogger trying to bully supervisors into doing his bidding.

Good for Stewart for standing up to the underwear bloggers. Leaders build consensus. Losers have an anonymous blog to do their dirty work for them.

“The White House blew the cover of the top CIA agent in Afghanistan on Sunday”

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/may/26/identification-cia-station-chief-afghanistan-reporter

    That’s not good…

    1. Yea, last time an agent was outted it was under the Bush administration when Valerie Plume was exposed. I would support firing the person who screwed up on this one.

    2. Revenge vs. Carelessness.

  30. Jack Brown

I agree Moon-howler… who ever let this one go should be fired on the spot. You might be right about revenge but Mrs. Plume was a desk jockey. This guy is THE top CIA agent in an active war zone. It’s going to be interesting to see if anyone at all gets fired for this or not, I’m guessing not.

    1. Actually she was a spook of sorts. Have you read her book?

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad posted a letter of support on his Facebook page that he received from Virginia state senator Dick Black.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/05/27/bashar-al-assad-posts-a-letter-of-support-from-a-virginia-state-senator/?Post+generic=%3Ftid%3Dsm_twitter_washingtonpost

    1. I saw that. Another reason to dislike Dick Black. Talk about out of touch.
