From VA.gov:

World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” – officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

2 Thoughts to “Veterans Day 2014”

I listened to this story the other day, and of course, got all teary eyed. It was just beautiful, the selfless acts of our veterans and of regular people who take the time to honor them.

Thank you to all the veterans I know and the ones I don’t.

Attended a Veterans Day ceremony on our beautiful Town Green
this morning. Started with 2 minutes of silence. How often does
that happen in a group of people? Time for serious thought.
