If there were any doubts about Trump’s fitness for the presidency,
yesterday’s performance ought to give a clear sign; the man cannot handle it.

    1. That was horrible. His behavior is atrocious.

  2. After sitting in my daughter’s Art Awards Ceremony, I observed akward and unsure students being celebrated, applauded, high fived, and given the opportunity to feel good about their talents (that are not necessarily considered popular by mainstream students). With that being said, I hope and pray that these programs be properly funded and emphasized by administrators, so that these students can find their niche and become successful students and eventually productive citizens.

    1. Excellent points, Joe.

I would like to see more vocational training in public schools also. Not everyone is going to college.

      1. @MoonHowler

Fully agree. I spoke with the Head of SPARK when I was running for office and there are loads of potential there, but there’s a need for more promotion and feedback.

Spotted first firefly of season (for me) about 0200 Thursday morning. Right on time. He was fairly high up in the tall trees. I don’t know whether the unusually wet May will reduce or swell their numbers, but I always enjoy them.

At my prior home, when they hit their peak visible populations, the lightning bugs
would start low in the grass, and, as the night progressed, they would ascend into a line of pines that marked a property boundary. The pines would look like a Christmas shop by the time dawn came.

    1. I haven’t seen one yet but last night was so rainy. The Sudley fireflies light up the trees. I don’t get many in the lawn but…and this is a big but, I have chemicals on my lawn for weeds and dandelions and growth. (not my choice but Mr.Howler’s) They love my neighbors oak trees.

Lightning bugs are so neat. That’s what I always associated with the beginning of summer.

Have you ever been to see that gathering of lightning bugs in NC in the Smokeys?

    Spring in NC-

Having dispatched one in the backyard with a hoe,
I went on the net to learn more about copperheads
and discovered more people suffer cooperhead bites
each year in NC than any other state and the county
with the most bites -Wake (Raliegh) my home for
the last few years after living in Manassas for over 40 years.
( moved to be closer to grandchildren). The local news
had stories last week on the NC State baseball Coach and
a Lowes garden customer being bitten.
Alas, have yet to see a firefly .
Only encountered a half dozen snakes in Manassas –
    and they all two legs.

( Note the reptile was discovered by our Heinz mix shelter pup
    – Gunner-.)

    1. Good job, Gunner!

Miss you, Big Dog! The City just isn’t the same without you.

  5. Big Dog

Thanks Moon, very kind of you.

Keep up the good work with your blog.

Miss the Journal-Messenger. Hard to keep up
with local Manassas news from a distance.

Black, Hispanic and Muslims in America are right to be fearful for their lives. Trump has motive (he has threatened violent retaliation against people because of race and religion) is vindictive and is figuratively reaching for his gun by trying to gain control of the military. The only way groups marked for persecution by Trump can protect themselves is to start gathering guns and surrounding Trump rallies with a show of force. Eggs and tomatoes need to be backed up with bullets. That is how politics are done when a strongman attempts to gain power for personal gain. This is exactly the case that 2A proponents argued was the reason for ‘merica to have guns: to keep government honest regarding the bill of rights. Will all those gun rights activists applaud when Mexicans, Backs and Muslins start exercising their 2A rights by stocking up on guns, wearing them on their hips at protest rallies, and flying the “Don’t tread on me” flag. Or, would open carry of guns by non-whites have police and politicians complaining of intimidation by terrorists and gangs? Trump is able to change every other plank on the GOP platform so I wouldn’t be surprised if he leads the GOP into being the party for gun control.

Too late for me, but glad that the Army is looking at protecting combat-arms soldier’s hearing. Hopefully, the Marines will follow suit. We had plastic plugs. So your choices were, protect your hearing, by not being able to hear, or go use your hands to cover one ear.

    1. I am glad others will be spared. I hate not being able to hear. I sometimes suffer when I have bad allergy. It makes me thankful that under normal circumstances I can hear.

      1. Mom

        @MoonHowler

Enough with the BS Moon, you can hear just fine, you just don’t listen to some of us.

      2. Well……perhaps. Are you accusing me of selective hearing? [innocent look]

Trump really had diarrahea of the mouth tonight
    on the Bill O’Reilly show.
Putin stuff – He has withdrawn and will not issue press passes
for Washington Post reporter. They have not been nice to him, he says.

    1. Is it just me or is Trump just a thin-skinned sniveling little sissy?

  9. Pat.Herve

Why oh Why do the media feel the need to publish this dude’s name repeatedly. In other active shooter situations, the media has chosen to not publish their name so they do not get the publicity. This dude is getting more publicity than Donald Trump. Sorry state of affairs.

    1. I think calling him the Orlando shooter would suffice.

Home Should Not Be a War Zone by General McCrystal

    A BATTLEFIELD on our soil.

That was my reaction on Sunday, like that of so many of my fellow Americans and fellow soldiers, as I began to learn about the horror that unfolded early that morning in Orlando, Fla., when a dangerous man opened fire in a nightclub with a high-powered, military-style rifle.

As Americans came together to celebrate the freedom that our great country affords and that our soldiers have given their lives to defend, 49 of them were murdered with a gun. Scores more were injured.

But that was just part of the bloodshed in our communities this past weekend, when at least 121 people across the country were fatally shot. The tragedy in Orlando wasn’t even the only mass shooting; in Roswell, N.M., a man was charged on Sunday with shooting his wife and their four children to death on Saturday. The oldest was 14; the youngest was 3.

In 2014, 33,599 Americans died from a gunshot wound. From 2001 to 2010, 119,246 Americans were murdered with guns, 18 times all American combat deaths in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

That is a national crisis. And as a combat veteran and proud American, I believe we need a national response to the gun violence that threatens so many of our communities.

Those of us who served in the military were trained in the effective and safe use of firearms. We were taught about the responsibility that comes with carrying a gun. As combat infantrymen and special operators, we received thousands of hours of firearms training.

In combat operations in places like Afghanistan, we often confronted the specter of dangerous people with powerful weapons who were a threat to their community and to our soldiers. Our aim was to quickly determine who in that community was a legitimate actor who could be trusted with a firearm and who was not.

Today, some of our politicians and the people who back them seem to promote a culture of gun ownership that does not conform with what I learned in the military.

Here at home, many of us are alarmed by the carnage. We are alarmed by loopholes that let felons and domestic abusers get hold of guns without a background check. We are alarmed that a known or suspected terrorist can go to a federally licensed firearms dealer where background checks are conducted, pass that background check, legally purchase a firearm and walk out the door.

  11. Colonel Morris Davis was a guest speaker at the National Press Club today. I just watched him on C-Span3. Good job, Moe!

Happy Father’s Day to all the men who work hard every day, set a good example for their kids, and exemplify what it means to be a good citizen. My father has always been, and continues to be, a great influence in my life. I am thankful for him and try to emulate his example.

    1. Nice tribute, Kelly.
My husband very ineloquently used to say it takes 30 seconds to be a father and a lifetime to be a dad. I think he is correct.

  13. If money talks and bullshit walks, Trump is toast. Clinton out fund raises him 9 times over for the month of May. The more he acts out and is hideous, the more people contribute to her.

Plus, why would anyone send money to him when he brags about how rich he is and how much money he has.

    Loser!!!

    1. Dump Trump

      @MoonHowler

Sure Clinton may have raised more money but Trump is spending his money better…on himself. 20% of his campaign expenses go to Trump owned businesses. He even pays himself a salary. (Funny how Trump claims to be funding his own campaign but is paying himself a salary…)

      http://www.marketwatch.com/story/20-of-donald-trumps-campaign-spending-goes-to-trump-businesses-filing-says-2016-06-21

I hope all the Trumpeteers rush out to give money to The Donald. The more money they waste on Trump’s newest reality show the less money they have for other candidates that could actually win.

      1. Why would anyone want to give him money after all that bragging and boasting and crowing about how freaking rich he is?

      2. Dump Trump

        @MoonHowler

A lot of people think The Donald is going to scam the GOP. He isn’t self-funding his campaign. He’s loaning his campaign money. As soon as he gets the GOP nomination his campaign gets a big pot of GOP money. The Donald will pay himself back with the money he’s supposed to spend in the general election. That’s great since it doesn’t help elect any GOPs, but I worrywhat these mad as hell Trumpeteers are going to do when they realize they’ve been played for fools.

A lot of people think The Donald never expected to actually win the nomination, but his ego wouldn’t let him lose. Now we’ve all got to live with the monster the GOP has created.

There are way too many people out there stroking their guns looking to Make American Hate (whoops, I mean Great) Again. When The Donald is crushed in November, there’s probably going to be more bloodshed.

      3. Interesting point of view, Dumptrump. The whole concept of him in any office is very disturbing. I wish I had more faith in the American people.

I am scared to even speculate.

      4. Dump Trump

        @MoonHowler
Look at the glass as half full. 70% of Americans have a negative view of Trump and The Donald is going to lose by a wide margin. And when he loses in a landslide, he’ll set “the movement” back 20-30 years.

The worry is what will StormTrumpers like Grace Tilly do when their Great White Hope fails. I expect two or three mass shootings from the ‘militia’ groups. Because when The Donald loses, do you think he’s going to graciously concede defeat? Or is he going to spin a conspiracy about how he was betrayed (stabbed in the back) by some shadowy group of Others.

If you aren’t familiar with Grace Tilly, the poster girl for the Neo-Nazi supporters of Trump. (Except they call themselves ‘alt-right’) You can see her and her Neo-Nazi tattoos at:
        http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/all-in-for-trump-inside-a-north-carolina-military-familys-gop-politics/

The ‘alt-right’ are so hard core racist they call regular right wingers like Cruz ‘cuckservatives’ as in they’ve been cuckolded and betrayed white people.

I do make a distinction between Trumpeteers and StormTrumpers. Trumpeteers are normal conservatives that have been duped into believing Trump is one of them. StormTrumpers are his core White Supremacist voters.

      5. I had no idea about all these various subgroups. No, I had never heard of Grace Tilly. This all sounds horrible.

  14. Has the stock market killed us all off yet?

I am not real happy with the Brits at the moment. Geez. Almost as bad as the threat to default on our debts….re debt ceiling.

  15. Big Dog

I agree with General McCrystal’s editorial
“Home Should Not Be A War Zone”.
    Thanks for posting it.

SCOTUS came through for you, Moon, on reproductive rights.

    1. Yes it did, Ed. I was also pleased about McDonnell. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like his politics, his policies, and I think he was stupid about Jonnie what’s his name. Really stupid. But I don’t think he broke Virginia law. I don’t think he is a crook. I think he might have just been out of his league. I don’t want to see him in prison. Now, if his wife got a new orange jump suit, I wouldn’t shed any tears….

  17. Ed

    …also on McDonnell.
