One of the best things about Election 2008 is that Meghan McCain is still around, on the TV talk shows and lecture circuits.  Meghan McCain is just a breath of fresh air.  She is a Republican who isn’t afraid to disagree with her dad and she is unafraid to speak her mind.

Have a listen:

Meghan is definitely her own woman.  She cannot be put in pigeon hole.  Does she have a political future?  Is she Republican enough or will she end up as a Democrat because of the culture wars?

60 Thoughts to “Meghan McCain–A Breath of Fresh Air”

    Emma :
Moon, why do you personalize every discussion as if I’m just speaking to you?

Moon used to do that with me all the time, too. Something to do with racism. I think we actually got past it with a couple of clarifications. She doesn’t do it anymore with me. Keep going, and you can get through it.

I still get a big kick out of the “Palin has no experience” bit. Say, anyone know how Alaska’s budget is, lately? How is it doing compared to the budget run by Pelosi, Reid, and Obama, the community organizer? In terms of experience (executive experience, that is), Palin is a 10th dan black belt compared to Ododo. But hey, what do I know, let’s just keep borrowing from China.

  3. Slow, I think you have the topic or the person confused. I don’t discuss racism. That is sort of my signature.

Now something else…could be. We had a few discussions when the word YOU was used.

Emma in another life either debated or was a Republican operative. However, she expects a response from me. She also knows I will go to bat for her when I agree and I often do. I personalized it because the things I said were being disputed. Silly me. But it wasn’t about racism by George!

I think Palin has experience (if I may be so bold as to comment) but the level of her experience is what people are questioning. And let’s just be honest. Palin hasn’t spent much time outside of Alaska. The rest of the country sort of feels that Alaska is the last frontier or something, Had she been the governor of Maryland or Arkansas, that fear about experience might not be as severe.

“Emma in another life either debated or was a Republican operative.”

I’ve been outed! I was on my high-school debate team!

But Republican operative? Nooooooo!!! In another life, I was a fresh-faced new voter, liberal as the day is long, and alive with hope when Jimmy Carter burst onto the national political scene.

And I voted for Doug Wilder. Enthusiastically, with my last shred of youthful hope. But, boy, did I feel burned after those two.

Once again the power of unintended consequences imposes itself upon Slowpoke!

@Slowpoke Rodriguez Speaking of unintended consequences, first, I saw this: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/02/robert-gibbs-mocks-sarah-palin.html

and I thought: Are there no adults left in politics anymore?

    Then I saw this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/10/AR2010021000010.htm

and I thought: I don’t think the Obama administration understands the power of unintended consequences either.

  7. Slow morning here slow, I am not sure I grasp what you said. How are your sinuses?

Emma, that link doesn’t work and I am curious. Will you repost it?

Here’s what I don’t understand. Palin was mocking Obama for his telepromptor. (all presidents use telepromptors) Robert Gibbs was mocking Palin. Why is childish for one and not childish for the other. I thought it was fairly light hearted humor on the part of everyone. It truly beat some of vicious, obnoxious things people say about others in this game.

I wish the jabs would stay at this level rather than taking on the tone of politics of personal destruction and character assassination.

This isn’t the first time the White House has gotten down into the weeds, and it just isn’t always flattering to them, especially when it’s coming from “Rain Man” Gibbs.

I don’t know why the link won’t work, Moon, but it’s in today’s Post–the article is entitled “In Poll, Republicans Gaining Political Ground on Obama.” More unintended consequences.

First of all, Sara Palin quit her job half way through, THAT is pathetic, I don’t care if she is female or male. Second, she had crib notes on her freakin’ hand. she SHOULD have used a teleprompter if she were that concerned about forgetting her three talking points.

  10. Then there is that old adage, whats sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Tit for tat, works also. I believe it is sheer hypocrisy to get after Gibbs for mocking Palin and not get after Palin for mocking Obama.

As for Obama being in trouble and having the Republicans nipping at his heels. The same thing happened to Bush, in reverse. And before him, the same thing happened with Clinton. I think it is just a political phenomena.

People want instant results. They don’t get it and of course its the president’s fault, regardless of who he is.

Stay tuned, this topic has become a thread.
