Chief Deane, having expressed concern, from the outset of the first proposed immigrant resolution, did not want to negate the relationship his department had built with the immigrant community due to an ill thought out resolution with would result in “unintended consequences”. He shared great concern that turning his police officers into immigration enforcement would jeopardize the hard won trust his department had worked so hard to gain. It is not only Chief Deane that sees the risk in alienating the immigrant community, but apparently, the overwhelming majority of law local law enforcement feels the same way. Is this some lefty bleeding heart liberal conspiracy? Or is just simply common sense. Read more in this Washington Post article that demonstrates a national reluctance to morph local police into immigration enforcement.
I also found it interesting that the crime trend in PWC, crime decreasing over the past four years while our immigrant populaton rose, represented a national trend.
Although law enforcement agencies in Prince William and Frederick counties have agreed to help federal authorities enforce immigration laws, officials in many other parts of the country remain reluctant to do so, saying they fear losing the trust of immigrant communities and worry about being accused of racial profiling.
Despite a nationwide clamor against illegal immigration, only 55 of more than 18,000 police and law enforcement agencies across the country have signed agreements to coordinate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
El Paso’s mayor, John Cook, described his mostly Hispanic city on the Mexican border as “the second-safest city in America,” in part because it stresses community police involvement. While recognizing that illegal immigration is a crime, he said he is also worried about a growing public perception that immigrants are criminals.
“There is a danger,” he said. “Once people don’t trust a police officer in immigrant communities, they become communities that foster crime, where people won’t report domestic violence or the theft of a TV. If people feel they are under threat of being deported, they become silent. There has to be a delicate balance.”
Several scholars at the meeting expressed concerns about public perceptions that illegal immigrants are linked with high crime. Rubén Rumbaut of the University of California at Irvine said crime rates across the country have steadily declined as immigration rates have increased. His research showed that the percentage of foreign-born men in U.S. jails and prisons is far lower than that of African Americans and in some cases close to the level of native-born whites.
Other legal experts and advocates at the meeting said that immigration law is increasingly being “criminalized” to prosecute people who have crossed the border to find work, especially by charging them with identity fraud, and that civil immigration warrants are being used like criminal warrants, even though they do not carry the same powers, such as the right to enter a home without permission.
Amen TH! Talk about a distraction from the real core issues that face Americans. Food prices rising, health care costs rising, college education becoming out of reach financially for the middle class, oil prices, global warming, coal and electricity companies creating legislation that allows them to steal private property from citizens, a war in Iraq that wastes billions of dollars and American lives, etc etc etc!
Thank you KyleDeb
Elena,

Dime
Who do you think is advising Ted, and the other congressmen I have access to… just kidding (I do write my congressen and I have written Ted about this before.
It is the only way to peace and stable Democracy.
Do you believe Dime, that YOU, know more than trained police officers about public safety? Cause the way I see it, an overwhelming majority disagree with you.
Perhaps, Dime would like be our next Chief of Police. 🙂
I sure hope not.
Michael,
You forgot Tancredo
Mando,
You keep coming with the 90% of rapes committed by illegal aliens (something you read in papers) We are talking about 9 out of 300000 immigrants who live in the State. Your number is not statistically significant or even meaningful to say that it is a trend. Don’t get me wrong, it was bad for the victims but it doesn’t mean that you have to run for your life every time you see a brown immigrant
funny Chris!!!
Elena,
Thanks. Some how, I thought YOU might enjoy that one.
Elena,
What are you talking about? Your quetion makes no sense. Am I to beleive that you do not care about public safety?
By the way, Elena, the PW Chief of police is paid to enforce the laws of PWC, not solve the worlds problems.
Rob
TH that is not what I said. If 100% of the PEOPLE IN JAIL were decreased by the 15% of the “illegals” in jail and DEPORTED, then 100%-15%=85% is an instant drop in crime that the majority of the population never has to experience (regardless of whether the crime rate is going up or down), and 15% less crime will be committed (because it won’t be here to be committed).
Abstracting the numbers, is how YOU twist statistics, especially when you consider everyone, the illegal and legal population in the same crime statistic, and illegal people in general compared to those in Jail.
Maybe you could further that twisted research and determine which ethnicities (legal or not) are most often in jail?
I’m saying pay attention to what you can do something about, get rid of the “illegal” population and your crime rate (15%) of those jailed, no longer commit crimes.
Also the rest of the widely documented problems CAUSED by illegal immigrants as a result of simply being “illegal” disappears with it.
I will never agree to anyone’s crazy and misguided logic that “illegal” people benefit us in any way. I know ehy all of you are doing it, you love “illegals”. You can’t find ANY rational way to explain this love so you continually grasp at straws and tilt windmills. Someday your assistance of “illegals” will catch up with you and many of you supporting them will end up in jail yourselves (aiding and abeting criminals).
MAYBE legal immigrant people do benefit the US in some small way, but I think only the highly educated and skilled segment does, everyone else is a huge burdon on the social system and financial system progression of wealth. (and I seriously doubt that from my research it never has benefitted wealth in any other country including the US as ANY growth will benefit in some small way, but you can’t measure the growth you never had, like Russia can never measure the growth it never had if they had not been socialists).
Getting rid of “illegal” people period, gets rid of all the problems including crime associated with “illegal” people.
The main plan to get rid of them is to make it so difficult to operate illegally in our society that they “choose” to return home where “life is better than it is here”. That WILL work.
TH “illegal” aliens are simply an ADDITIONAL burden (one we don’t need) on an already crazy financial growth environment, and are never going to save us from the inevitable future failures, “illegals” are simply going to make it happen faster, and all of you are going to be eating your “misguided social sympathy” when it happens quicker than you think.
None of you who support “illegal” aliens are making our society better or wealthier, you are simply supporting its hastened demise at the expense of the majority in the Democracy, for you minority pettiness and love of self. Your pathological selfishness will come back to haunt you later when you are held accountable under the law for your support of “illegal” behavior and lawlessness.
TH Tancredo does not support my anti-group philosophy for peace and prosperity.
DiversityGal and Moonhowler, thank you for thinking of me in a thoughtful way. I appreciate it. I really hope you do understand that the philosophy I am advocating is just and right, because it is based on what I saw in military service as the cause of all war and ethnic conflicts. Obama and Ted are right to bring this up now and at this time in history. It must happen now or we will lose our Democracy and divide our nation into waring and conflicting factions if we do not. This means we have to stop the political “obsession” with DEFENDING your own ethnic group with maniacle ferver and in the process promote breaking the law, supporting those who are “illegal” who break the law and destroying the very will of the majority of people and rights to individual freedoms guaranteed to all equally and decided as LAW by the MAJORITY in our DEMOCRACY. If you won’t listen to me, maybe you will listen to Ted and Obama. But hey, you heard it from me first.
Michael,
What is this craziness about us ending up in jail because we aid and abbet illegal aliens?
“None of you who support “illegal” aliens are making our society better or wealthier, you are simply supporting its hastened demise at the expense of the majority in the Democracy, for you minority pettiness and love of self. Your pathological selfishness will come back to haunt you later when you are held accountable under the law for your support of “illegal” behavior and lawlessness.”
Is the illegal alien gestapo on the prowl Michael?
Rob/Dime,
I believe my queston was quite clear actually. Do you believe you know effective law enforcement better than the ACTUAL police officers themselves?
“Despite a nationwide clamor against illegal immigration, only 55 of more than 18,000 police and law enforcement agencies across the country have signed agreements to coordinate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
El Paso’s mayor, John Cook, described his mostly Hispanic city on the Mexican border as “the second-safest city in America,” in part because it stresses community police involvement. Rob, your last name wouldn’t happen to start with a D would it 😉 ?
Hey good news. Biggest raid ever. 600 illegals caught in one sweep at a plant in Mississippi. Please help to spread the word. Maybe Fernandez can let people know about this on his big illegal sign.
“One worker caught in Monday’s sweep at the Howard Industries transformer plant said fellow workers applauded as immigrants were taken into custody. “
Elena,
no
Dime
Elena,
Do you believe that an illegal alien should be allow to drive drunk without a license and load stolen copper in the trunk just because he is trying to make a better life for himself?
I think that is a much better question.
Dime
Michael,
Wow, now you are threatening people? We are talking about numbers here, not supporting or attacking illegal immigrants. that is something that your own biased brain is subconsciously bringing to the discussion.
I don’t know how your peace and prosperity philosophy work. I understand the theories of the social contract. So if we disagree with you, then we have to be punished? in order to bring peace and prosperity you have to send to jail people dissenting with the majority? You say you have traveled but you didn’t see what you didn’t want to see. Your ideas sound like the Chinese government during the Olympics: jail dissenters so we can have “peaceful” games. Is that democracy? I can see your philosophy working and it will be great for the majority but please don’t call the means to get there peaceful. If you don’t at least respect the dissenters then you have a totalitarian state.
I see how your philosophy is rooted in your military service. It works there given the type of missions you have but you cannot extend that to civilian life.
About your 100 to 15 analysis, it doesn’t work in real life because you cannot find 15% of illegal aliens in jail. If they represent only six percent as this study claims (are you going to send to jail the authors of the report too?), getting rid of that six percent can in theory reduce the the crime rate by six percent. If you don’t have more of that then I would suggest to start with the dissenters who don’t believe in your world of peace and prosperity.
DUH, of course not Dime. What in the heck are you talking about? Being here without propers documentation, in many cases, especially if you have crossed the border, is a civil offense.
Now Rob/Dime,
Its your turn to answer my question about your credentials, do you know better than the majority of law enforcemnt regarding what keeps a community safe?
TH I’m not threatening anyone. I’m simply pointing out that there are laws on the books that clearly identify as a crime, punishable with a sentence, any ACTION that aids and abets “lawlessness”, whether it be anti-harboring laws, anti-trafficing laws, anti-subversion laws and laws that describe acts of sedition and treason against the “majority” in a Democracy.
The supporters of lawless behavior (like the supporters who participate in internet crime, drivers for bank robbers, employers who hire “illegal” aliens, militants and subversives who take public action to subvert and undermine democractic law, people who aid and assist people inderictly who commit murders, steal, evade taxes, create false identity, promote, support and assist the deliquency of minors or the crimes of adults are all themselves accountable to a whole host of protective laws that prevent the criminalization of the political infrastructure and the political, mental, physical and financial harm to the “Majority” in a Democracy who follow and define the law in a Democracy.
To what “degree” this is done, and the degree of harm it causes determines the severity of a sentence handed down to that person by a judge.
The actions and activities of all individuals on this blog and the actions they take in the community are not immune to these sets of laws. Many of these are prosecuted by the FBI, CIA, ICE, DEA, TSA, federal and state prosecuters, DAs and local law enforcement. None of us are immune from those laws if we break them. I suggest some of you study them closer, before you support “illegal” people in any way. Even “free speech” is not immune from some of those laws where subversion of the Democracy can be proven. I might also add the military can become involved in this process under “posse cometatis” provisions.
My suggestion is to concentrate your efforts entirely on supporting the social issues that are clear injustices to only “legal” immigrants, and CLEARLY and UNEQUIVACABLY separate that from ANY support (political or physical) for “illegal” people. As this issue gains momentum across the country by the Majority in the Democracy clearly focused on the “LAWLESS” and the “damage” caused by the lawless to THEM, they will eventually prosecute in a court of law any “individual” who contributed to their personal pain and financial ruin by supporting an “illegal” person who caused it.
That is simply my advice to those who might end up on the wrong side of the legal issue, by not using their brains and thinking only with their misguided emotions, because they “love” “illegal” aliens.
If you REALLY want peace and stability in our nation, I suggest you also consider my philosopy that the rest of all of us “legal” people, will create the greatest peace and stability and the greatest Democracy, by renouncing all political allegiance to their “race, gender, religion and ethic group” and think only in terms of “individual rights and individual actions accountable under the law, to treat everyone the same under that law. The group against group conflict, advocacy, political alignment along group-centric lines of power (race, gender, religion, and ethnic group) has to stop if Democracy is to succeed and factionalism, separatism, fascism, socialism and autocracy is to fail.
TH your math is wrong, what percentage of “illegal” people are in jail compared to “legal” people. A previous post said 13-15% if I recall. That is the percentage of the 100% of CRIME (all those in jail or arrested for crimes) you can deport and thereby get rid of that percentage of total crime committed. The percentage of crime is actually larger than the number of people in jail, but you can at least get rid of that 100% percentage, and bring it down by 15%, reducing its impact on the rest of the Majority in a Democracy.
What you have not studied (which is twisted reasoning, because only individuals make decisions to commit crimes), is what percentage of all those 100% in jail, belong to respective ethnic, gender, race or religion). I would not advocate this study because it will not reduce crime, individuals commit crimes. Get rid of those you can, by ENFORCING the LAW and DEAL with those you can’t get rid of (because they are legal) any other way by leaving them in jail a LONG time.
You didn’t answer my question about minority groups being abused in Yugoslavia or African Americans fighting against segregation. is that OK? We would still have segregated schools if would follow you philosophy.
We were talking about Virginia and the number of people in jail. The number of proxy illegal aliens was never 13 or 15 %.
Talking about helping illegal aliens, did you hear me talking about supporting illegal immigration? A lot of people in this blog say that they think the system is broken and we need to fix it. We disagree in the way it should be fixed and we virtually fight about the way to get what we want. I think that is healthy in a democracy, even if you end up accepting what the majority decides.
Please answer this question before you reply to anything else:
Do you think that we are “subverting and undermining democratic law” by having these discussions?
If you think so, should we prosecute all our senators who debated the immigration reform law?
Should democratic societies limit their discussions to vanilla issues?
Michael,
You are simply being outrageous on purpose! I’ll take the bait, arrest me along with John McCain and Barak Obama, oh and President Bush. Oh, is the military going to show up at my door now?
This is just plain silly, you said:
“The actions and activities of all individuals on this blog and the actions they take in the community are not immune to these sets of laws. Many of these are prosecuted by the FBI, CIA, ICE, DEA, TSA, federal and state prosecuters, DAs and local law enforcement. None of us are immune from those laws if we break them. Elena,
Michael is the new Patriot. He/she comes up with all these crazy ideas and want us to respond to them but he/she doesn’t answer our questions.
I’ll tell you how I view your posts, Michael. They appear to be those of a scared white male who has been part of a privileged majority which is slowly (or rapidly, depending on your POV) becoming a minority in this country. You seem to be looking for a way to criminalize the activities of those ethnic, racial, and religious groups that are emerging as a stronger force in our political/national dialogue – if they lobby, protest, or otherwise work to further their rights. You don’t seem to realize that a person can be lobbying for his/her individual rights as well as his/her ethnic heritage. I’ve yet to me a person who wasn’t a sum of many different parts – educational background, religious upbringing, economic status, cultural and racial heritages, regional influences, ad infinitum… There is no Utopia. Mankind wages wars, loots, lies, kills. Our goal should be to live as well – ethically – as we can. We’re not perfect and never will be.
Elena,
It sure seems so. It not the law enforcement, it’s the politian’s (sp?) worried about their next election. They tend to avoid controversal subjects until they are forced to act.
Gald to hear you admit that the illegal aliens are breaking US law.
Dime
Hey Dime,
don’t tell on me,shhhhhhh, but I speed somtimes, I guess I am a lawbreaker too.
You are incorrect, law enforcement does not want to alienate the immigrant community, that does NOT promote public safety. It has nothing to do with politics Dime, Chief Deane is not an elected official.
She did it, she did it. Check her immigration status. 🙂
Sorry, Elena I disagree with you.
Dime
TH,
Sorry, unlike some of you I have a life, so I don’t always answer timely once I’ve decided to call it a weekend.
I didn’t see your question. If their are abused minorities in Yugoslavia, or any abused people in any country, it is a just and civil think to take up a fight against that. I would join you. The issue is about the difference between defining “abuse” and defining “lawlessness”. They are different. Many people who break the law think the law is “abusing” them or others. In a Democracy that’s just tough doodoo… as the majority makes those laws to benefit the majority of the people and to make the law equitable for all as “individuals”. If the “abuse” is “unlawful” then you have a right to fight it. If the “abuse” is lawful, then you may be justified to fight it onn “moral” grounds only, but then you must understand that “morality” is a majority definition again, and what is “moral” to an Islamics person is not necessary “moral” to a christian, or jew, or buddist or hindu person.
I find it very interesting that African-Americans are now segregating themselves. Who would have though that justified or rational 40 years ago? It just shows you how much different races, only look to advantage themselves politically and never really intend to integrate or care about anyone but themselves, unless required to by law. Fortunately for the country, everyone is required to integrate by law and to apply the same law to all people equally. I do not know how much longer that will last with the new culture of “lawlessness and anarchy” growing as a result of foreign infusion of ideoligies into our once stable democracy.
To answer your “subvesion question”. Do you think that we are “subverting and undermining democratic law” by having these discussions?
If you think so, should we prosecute all our senators who debated the immigration reform law?
Should democratic societies limit their discussions to vanilla issues?
def:
Subversion refers to an attempt to overthrow structures of authority, including the state. It is an overturning or uprooting. As early as the 14th century, it was being used in the English language with reference to laws, and in the 15th century came to be used with respect to the realm. The term has taken over from ‘sedition’ as the name for illicit rebellion, though the connotations of the two words are rather different, sedition suggesting overt attacks on institutions, subversion something much more surreptitious, such as eroding the basis of belief in the status quo or setting people against each other.
Subversive activity is the lending of aid, comfort, and moral support to individuals, groups, or organizations that advocate the overthrow of incumbent governments by force and violence. All willful acts that are intended to be detrimental to the best interests of the government and that do not fall into the categories of treason, sedition, sabotage, or espionage are placed in the category of subversive activity.
Recent writers, in the post-modern and post-structuralist traditions (including, particularly, feminist writers) have prescribed a very broad form of subversion. It is not, directly, the governing realm which should be subverted in their view, but the predominant cultural forces, such as patriarchy, individualism, and scientific rationalism. This broadening of the target of subversion owes much to the ideas of Antonio Gramsci, who stressed that communist revolution required the erosion of the particular form of ‘cultural hegemony’ in any society.
A UK-based council communist group in the 1990s was called Subversion.
The Neoimperialist movement uses the term ‘political subversion’ to describe a method of taking complete control of or annexing a foreign state by gaining a majority in the foreign state’s government using representatives loyal to the government of the core-state of a Neoimperialistic empire.
So yes TH there are so many ways you can see “subversive” behavior on this blog that is undermining Democracy some of which can be taken in a court of law as “illegal”.
1. Subverting the authority of the state, and the nation to enforce “immigration law”.
2. Illicit rebellion against the legal system, to condone and support “unlawful” behavior.
3. Lending AID, COMFORT and MORAL support to militant groups advocating overthrow nof the US government (such as marxist, socialist, or ethnic militant groups currently operating politically in the US for SPECIFIC ETHNIC groups.
4. subversion something much more surreptitious, such as eroding the basis of belief the US, in democracy, in the rule of law, in the status quo or setting people against each other such as eroding belief in law, in democracy and encouraging the sedition and militarism of gender, racial, religious and ethnic groups.
5. And Cultural subversion, created by MANY of the comments on this blog, in the feminist definition “subverted in their view, but the predominant cultural forces, such as patriarchy, individualism, and scientific rationalism”, can also undermine the basis of Democracy, which is the power to self-govern not as a “feminist”, or “racist” or “religious” or “ethnic” political group, which is a form of autocracy, or anarchy (and therefore subversive to democracy), but as the power to govern as “individuals” in a democractic society.
We are not the congress, congress does not support militant subversives, such as many on this blog support and politically align with, but we can DEBATE. What we cannot do without being legally liable to the law, is subvert the law (openly reject it and encourage others to reject it), without a VOTE. When you act without the authority (such as a vote or without the law on your side, you are subverting law and in directly, by not supporting the democratice process, also subverting Democracy.
Elena, I am never outrageous on purpose, I am perfectly serious about accountability to the law. Some of you have obviously not read it.
Maybe your problem Elena is you think the law is SILLY…ergo I suggest all of you who advocate and support the efforts of “illegal” people, aid, confort and abet “illegal” people, read the law more carefully, before you make statements that undermine it and the majority rule in a Democracy. You can speak freely all you want, until that speech, action, and political effort, becomes UNLAWFUL.
Censored, I am neither scared, nor a “white male”. I’m an American.
I have no gender, no race, no religious or ethnic political GROUP that I belong to. Although it does not matter, my ANCESTRY is, My father was an American, my mother an American, before that, my grandmother was Cherokee, another Irish, a grandfather was English, another Celt (France and Norman), before that my ancestry was French paleo-indian, Kazikstan and African, somewhere near the southern nile river. I make no claim to what many of you claim, and that is YOUR PROBLEM. I am simply a PERSON, who believes in the DEMOCRATIC process, called “election” by INDIVIDUAL vote, a representative who will determine the LAW of the LAND, and I support both the LAW and the people who enforce that LAW.
MOST of you here, claim some GROUP association POLITICALLY, circumvent Democracy, by trying to get your GROUP more power than I have as an INDIVIDUAL (thus undermining democracy), and encouraging autocracy, socialism, facism and anarchy.
I could care less what ethnic background people have, what I care about is that the circumvent law, and don’t act as a Democracy, while they persue those political activities “lobbying for his/her individual rights as well as his/her ethnic heritage”. I’ve yet to meet a person who wasn’t a sum of many different parts – educational background, religious upbringing, economic status, cultural and racial heritages, regional influences, ad infinitum”
BUT, censored, I have yet to meet ANY of those people lobbying politically for their “ethnic heritage” who are not trying to circumvent Democracy in the process, by voting in “blocks” organized politically by those ethnic heritages. That concept is not Democracy, but in reality a subversive version of autocracy, facism, socialism, and anarchy. It is essentially illegal in a democracy, because it defines a power created and owned by the “gender, racial, religious or ethnic group STATE”.
Chief Dean should be an elected official. Elections are the only way to prevent “cronyism” in a politically criminalized system, from getting so much power you can’t stop the corruption. Elections are the only tool in a Democracy to prevent politcal corruption and criminalization of the political infrastructure.
Michael,
You simply cannot be taken seriously.
Well Michael, you have indeed proved one thing. Your love (unattributed) of Wikipedia knows no bounds.
What you have failed to prove, however, is anything else.
