trust women

Thanks to Governor Bob McDonnell for doing the right thing. He has signed the Trust Women/Respect Choice license plate into law and has maintained the funding for prevention services. $15 for each plate will go towards Planned Parenthood.

The license plate faced a three-month back and forth challenge in the General Assembly. Apparently some of our legislators confused reproductive rights with first amendment rights and tried all sorts of sneaky tricks to stop the stream of money into Planned Parenthood.

Virginia is one of only FOUR states to have a pro-choice license plate, let alone one with a funding stream supporting reproductive health care services.

Hat Tip to Governor McDonnell. Frankly, I am pleasantly surprised. This really was a free speech issue.

The governor can be emailed from the here. I have already emailed him a thank you.

Hmmm. Maybe it’s time for new car tags.

  5. Mine are ancient. They will be available this summer.

I have visions of these tags rolling through the streets of PWC. 🙂
A definate thanks to Governor McDonnell.

  7. Absolutely. He also deserves a hearty round of applause for opening more interstate rest stops today.

  8. I don’t care for this plate. Actually, political messages on plates bug me.

  9. I totally agree about political messages on plates. They annoy me too and I would have denied both of them…in favor of apolitical license plates. In fact, I contacted my legislators when the Choose Life plates were being considered expressing that very opinion.

However, having said that, you have the choice to get one or not get one. Once the pro life (choose life) plates because available, as a free speech issue, the Trust women/Respect choice plates had to be made available. It was still an uphill fight. The funding was diverted away from the intended source for a while. Politics as usual. None of them had the nads to go up against free speech so they tried to crater the project via the funding. Ball-less bastards.

    Goose Gander again.
