One of our contributors sent us this news article. How clever.  I am trying not to laugh:

From the Washington Post:

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli will be the special guest at the Capital Pride Festival this weekend — only he doesn’t know it yet.

The Virginia Partisans, a gay rights group with thousands of members in the state, will ask parade attendees to “kiss” a life-size cutout of the controversial attorney general in an event they are affectionately calling “Smooches for Cooch.”

 cooch2

The group will send a collection of photos of people kissing Cuccinelli to the attorney general along with the message that Virginia is for all lovers. The same motto will appear on stickers and banners at the group’s booth along the Pennsylvania Avenue parade route Sunday.

Cuccinelli, who advised public colleges that they could not legally prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, has called the practice of homosexuality “a detriment to our culture” and “wrong.”

The Partisans hope Cuccinelli will be just the draw they need to recruit members. The group considered a petition drive, but abandoned it because members thought it was too passé.

“We’re sending our love to Ken Cuccinelli,” said Terry Mansberger, president of the Virginia Partisans. “He’s the gift that keeps on giving.”

A spokesman for Cuccinelli had no comment.

Gay pride parades tend to get a little graphic. Cuccinelli knew what he was signing on for when he took on these gay issues. Being Attorney General doesn’t keep you from being humiliated.

37 Thoughts to “Cuccinelli to attend D.C. gay pride festival — sort of — (*JOKE*)”

  1. Wolverine

A bunch of gays do a goofy thing, and Cooch will feel ‘humiliated”? Why? It’s just a bunch of gays doing a goofy thing. I’m sure the Cooch will just laugh it off as a bunch of gays doing a goofy thing. And he’ll be able to point to it as proof that gays do goofy things.

  2. Second-Alamo

Man am I glad I didn’t plan on going to DC this weekend!

  3. Maybe he won’t care. Who knows.

SA, I heard Northern VA has 30 minute waits on the subway ‘out in Virginia.’ I suppose we have lots of participants headed to the DC event? It is going to be near 100 degrees today.

  4. Captain Idiot-Face

If they have a cardboard cutout of Obama, will it humiliate Obama? Remember that gays are not exactly pleased with Obama either. Don’t know, just wondering.

    1. They might go after him also. I remember when many of them wore Pinocchio noses at Bill Clinton over don’t ask, don’t tell. They weren’t kissing him though. @ Capt. Maybe they will kiss Obama cut outs also. Who knows.

  5. Lafayette

Smooch Cooch…I’m going to throw up. Who could stomach kissing even a cut out of Cooch?

  6. marinm

Heh, that’s kinda funny. Won’t advance there cause but I support there first amendment right to do what they want to a Cooch cut-up.

I also don’t see the point of marching on DC to change Virginian law especially one Cooch has no control over. The People voted not the GA, not the governor and not the AG. The People of Virginia decided to ban gay marriage.

  7. punchak

“The People of Virginia decided to ban gay marriage.”

I don’t believe that ALL the people made that decision.

  8. Not Me, Bubba

    @punchak

    I second that….

Some people were so insecure about their own marriages they decided that gays should be protected from the mistakes they made…..:>)

    Or they were homophobes….

  9. Poor Richard

    M-H,
When did Manassas get a subway stop? A Subway sandwich yes,
    but a stop?

    Not germane, but:

“The terrible error by goalkeeper Robert Green is one disastrous spill
the Yanks won’t complain about …”
    London Times (6-13-2010)

” Today the Big 10 has 12 teams and the Big 12 has 10 teams”.
    ESPN (6-13-2010)

  10. PR, big typo on my part. I will fix it. I wish we did have one.

Marin, I don’t think that marriage is their protest. I believe they are protesting Cucinelli’s position on gay’s not being protected on campuses.

I didn’t vote for the marriage amendment either. How insecure. It certainly doesn’t hurt me or my marriage if gays marry.

  11. marinm

PR, I for one believed that if we lost our opener to the English that we should’ve invaded that isle and made Buckingham Palace into Obama’s new summer home.

Sorry for being off-topic. BTW, did you watch the Dodge commercial? It glistened my eye..

  12. marinm

MH, I think it was pretty clear that Cooch doesn’t really have a ‘say’ in gays being a protected class. Its within the power of the General Assembly and they have not taken up the issue. The Atty General cannot make law.

  13. He didn’t say they were a protected class. He forced colleges and universities to remove the wording that said gays could not be discriminated against. That is fairly draconian.

Funny how those words had been there for what? A decade?

Cucinnelli makes his own laws, it appears. How’s that lawsuit of his working out for him?

  14. Marin, what dodge commercial? link please!

Above commercial is why we’re the best country on this planet, EVER. 🙂 And, makes me wanna buy a HEMI!

He forced the public colleges paid with public funds to comply with existing laws. I don’t see an issue. I say for those that feel strongly on this issue — talk to a State Delegate or a State Senator. They are the only ones with the power to change the current law.

  16. Rez

    punchak :
“The People of Virginia decided to ban gay marriage.”
I don’t believe that ALL the people made that decision.

Got to jump in again. The statement that you made sounds like there needs to unanimous voting? Does that mean that the President is not our President because not ALL the people made the decision (or even a majority of all of the people–only the majority of the voters). Last I heard, that was how democracy works.

  17. Hi Rez, she isn’t saying that voting has to be unanimous, just that not all the people in Virginia voted against gay marriage.

Marin, those colleges aren’t changing the law. They are merely stating that they do not discriminate against gays enrolled in or employed by the college.

What law is that you are referring to? Do we have a law saying we must discriminate against gays? Of course we don’t.

I am so sick of all this talk about public funding. It is taking on an air of elitism that is ugly. It reminds me of how some Christians do if you don’t subscribe to their brand of Christianity. Public employees are not children of a lesser God and we, myself included, do not pay their salaries nor do we own them.

We contribute towards a pool of money that goes to pay for the goods and services that our local, state, and federal government need to operate.

We will all never agree on what are necessitites.

  18. marinm

Let me put it this way. If GMU put out a document that said they WOULD discriminate against gays I would want the AG to move in on that as well as they don’t have that delegated authority from the General Assembly.

It’s not a gay issue at all. It’s an issue of to what extent does a public school have to govern itself. Under our laws they are only given powers the general assembly gives to them. So, in the end what the AG said is still what needs to happen – the GA needs to put up something for vote. It’s not about religion nor is it about treating employees as if we own them. It’s about getting the school system to understand that they are limited in what they can and cannot do by the consent of the General Assembly.

It’s really not as complicated as many would think this is about..

  19. Rez

    @Moon-howler
So can one take issue that the “People Of Virginia” voted for x? that was my only point. I did not vote for the issue but I respect that in that vote, the majority voted for it. We cannot pick and choose in this society what laws we follow and what we don’t.

  20. Actually, I believe that the GA gives the power to the Board of Visitors. They serve as a corporate body and deal with policy making and oversight.

They actually serve as a gatekeeper of sorts, protecting academic freedoms from political dithering. They have every right to state their hiring policies and they have the right to say that certain subgroups are not discriminated against.

Do you seriously think that institutions of higher learning waiting until the Virginia Legislature declared that there would be no racial discrimination before they put those policies in effect?

  21. Rez, absolutely. Agreed.

Actually, I don’t think that issue will ever be won with a referendum. What do you think?

  22. Rez

I like you am not affected by it. As you and I have said before, marriage should be a church thing, civil unions should be a government thing. When I went to work, I didn’t talk to people about their bedroom nor should I. So why should I view people who engage in untraditional activities any different. I don’t care anything about their bedroom either.

    1. @Rez, you sure have the amen chorus on that one…with me singing the loudest.

I basically don’t care what other people do in that dept. as long as my five senses don’t have to come into contact with it.

  23. Dudenva

Moon-howler :@Rez, you sure have the amen chorus on that one…with me singing the loudest.
I basically don’t care what other people do in that dept. as long as my five senses don’t have to come into contact with it.

So, if two guys get married, or two women get married, they shouldn’t be able to wear their wedding rings around you as that would remind you what they do in their bedrooms?
Your statement smacks of bigotry. Do what you want, just don’t let me see it, stay in the closet, remember your place, because what you do is gross and I disagree with it.
The very argument some used in Loving vs Virginia.
I see we have not progresed as far as some would like to think.

  24. dudenva, your statement smacks of stupidity and lack of reading comprehension.

Statements like the ones you are making are totally ignorant and are argumentative.

It makes no sense to piss people off who are obviously in favor of your cause. If you really want gays and lesbians to get equal rights you should consider SDASTFU.

You have no idea how much you hurt your own cause.

And by the way, I don’t really enjoy watching people have sex. It should be done in private. That is all the 5 senses statement meant. Grow up. I have seen wedding bands for more decades than I care to count. Never, in my entire life, has seeing a wedding ring conjured up a bedroom scene in my mind.

What cause? I’m pointing on the inherent bigotry in your statement. If you can’t handle the truth, fold the blog and get off the Internet.

The statements are argumentative because they are directed towards you.
Get over the initial shock of someone having the audacity to point out some very blatant shortcomings in your attitude and take a good long look at yourself.
You say you are in favor of a cause.
    That’s great.
Just know that your statements represent conditional favor. You are ok with it as long as the gross stuff isn’t apparent to your 5 senses.

  27. marinm

    @Dudenva

I don’t think MH meant it in the way that you took it. I can see where your coming from but I believe what she intended was that – it doesn’t effect me so why should I care what other people are doing.

Now, you can argue the logic of that debate point as much as you want (because I’m not a big fan of the ostrich defense) but MH being a bigot? No. I don’t think so.

    1. Thank you marin. And you are correct, that is what I was saying, with my own flair. That is expression is one I have used for years, to state live and let live; if it doesn’t hurt me, mine or anyone else, who cares.

This person has come on here in the past with a similar attitude. I had no patience. I suppose when I have defended gay rights for years, including walking in one parade, for someone who doesn’t know me to come along with that kind of attitude, then OFF WITH THEIR HEADS~

  28. Its probably time for Dudenva to find a new blog. I don’t really owe him explanation and he/she isn’t worth debate. I think everyone ought to have the same rights.

I am entitled to say things in any way I chose. Dudenva has issues that he/she cannot resolve on this blog. I suggest professional help. Dude, you understand that was a light hearted moment?

  29. It is attitudes like Dudenva that explain why so many people voted for the marriage act.

Frankly, I have never encountered someone as hostile as Dudenva. Whatever his cause, he will not be successful because he attempts to beat people into submission rather than sell them on his point of view.

Actually, Dudenva is in all probability a plant from someone anti-gay trying to make it look like we are all going to be forced into watching gay sex. Don’t fall for it. Gays don’t like people like this either.

  30. Elena

    Dudenva,

Clearly, you are extremely defensive, unfairly so on this blog. M-H is one of the most non prejudicial people I know, and I know M-H well. In fact, M-H even marched for gay rights in D.C.

So I would urge you to take a deep breath, stop ASS-uming what you don’t know and instead ask some civil questions in a civil tone. This blog has NEVER espoused preventing gay people from having the same rights as every other person. I am wondering if you arent straight trying to make gay people look bad!

I’ve lurked on the blog for a while and have seen a few things that belie your assertions.
For example, letting stand hateful remarks and assertions about other people’s sexual orientation about people she doesn’t agree with.
She’s perfectly willing to not moderate those comments, which would lead one to believe she agrees with using slurs based on sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation.

    1. Examples please. Now go take your meds. You have no idea what I moderate and what I don’t moderate. how would you possibly know what I take down, let through, etc. Furthermore, I don’t own you any explanations.

Did you miss the message about finding another blog? Your sole objective seems to be to troll at me.
There are a couple quick fixes for that.

Furthermore, I seriously doubt if you are here to represent the cause of gay people. I would say you are a trolling plant from the ‘other side’ because your behavior doesn’t reflect well on gays.

      Say good bye…..

  32. ok. I checked IP addresses a little more carefully. It seems that our friend, Dudenva might be lashing out at me because I ran some unflattering coverage on someone ….or perhaps his pet.

Sorry, AS, go troll elsewhere. You were banned from this blog for viciously stalking and attacking one of our users several years ago. You have managed to slither back in. You are banned again. I will be notifying the person you stalked 2 years ago that you are back.

You are vicious and offer nothing of value to this blog.

  33. Dudenva is attempting to say that we are censoring him and that I am like bvbl. Perhaps he is right. The difference is, I have a message that goes up telling people that their comment is in moderation. No such notice was provided on bvbl. And that’s ok, BVBL is Greg’s blog and he may do as he choses on his blog. I respect that.

Elena and I never made any claims not to censor. There are people who post who simply don’t get through the first time. There are people who have their posting rights removed. What determines who stays and who goes?

    Demeanor. Its that simple.

Neither of us have time to baby sit how people behave.

Dudenva has trolled, has viciously attacked other users here in the past, and is now playing innocent. I am not buying it. Furthermore, we don’t have to allow anyone here who doesn’t contribute to the overall well-being of the blog. That’s the reason most blogs have gatekeeping software.
