The Board will have both a 2:oopm & 7:30pm session tomorrow. Tomorrow’s agenda has the regular hodge podge of quick take, rezoning, special use permits, public hearings, budget amendments etc…

However, the rumor mill has it that the dead horse will be beat again. Apparently, Corey and John want to continue the “probable cause” portion of the “Immigration Resolution”, so stay tuned. We should have more information after the 2:00pm session, so check back to see if you should plan to speak at the 7:30pm meeting.

Here’s the agenda for the meeting.

20 Thoughts to “PWCBOS 05/20/08 Meeting”

  1. junkyard dog

Can they just sneak that stuff in there without public notice?

I KNOW the double-S boys think they are invincible but….

  2. TWINAD

Why would they want to revisit “probable cause” when they were just championing (and trying to “correct” the article in the Post) the fact that the revised initiative was tougher than the “probable cause”? What clowns. They really are two idiots destroying any shred of credibility they may have retained.

  3. Red Dawn

Remember rumor is RUMOR and as far as sneaking things in, sure why not? Isn’t it happening in Congress? ( couldn’t resist:( )

Politicians, you can trust them as far as you can throw ’em

  4. A PW County Resident

“What clowns. They really are two idiots destroying any shred of credibility they may have retained.”

I am sure this is said as “fact” and not in any way negative.

  5. WhyHereWhyNow

This has got to be a lie. I’m sure it came from one someone out to ridicule, embarrass, and discredit Corey Stewart. The man has been ridiculed, embarrassed, and discredited enough. This is kicking a man while he’s down. Absolute B.S.!

It can’t be true. The budget is a done deal. The chance to reconsider the vote of April 29th expired when then approved the minutes May 6th.

This horse is not only dead, it’s buried.

  6. WhyHereWhyNow

*** when THEY approved the minutes on May 6th.

  7. Where is this “rumor” coming from? Come on. Inquiring minds want to know!

  8. admin

I have my sources. We’ll wait and see what happens tomorrow. Personally, I can’t imagine that we are going to go down this road again.

  9. Casual Observer

Jeesh….I hate people who have a compulsive need to always have the last word. This would not surprise me. Not in the least. Corey’s ego knows no boundaries.

  10. WhyHereWhyNow

I have lost a great deal of respect for Mr. Stewart also, but I have always interpreted his decisions as politically calculated; not racist, not intentionally harmful to our schools, public safety, economy, etc. Ego has not been his driving force so much as ambition. That is why, if he still any intention of continuing his once promising career, there is no chance that he is really going to do this.

There is no political advantage in prolonging and expanding the Duecaster Disaster. Therefore, he will not do it.

  11. If it’s true they will bring up ‘probable cause’ again, I think we need to seriously consider that the strain has begun to effect their mental stability. Maybe we can get the PWC Psych services to send a few orderlies with 2 straightjackets to the BOCS tomorrow.

  12. WhyHereWhyNow

Haha, that’s hilarious, Mackie. Straightjackets might be a little much, but maybe a couple of sedatives and a chat with a therapist.

  13. Marie

WhyHereWhyNow, Even though a budget has been adopted, it can be amended at anytime. It does not require a public hearing to amend a budget. It only requires the vote of the BOCS. It is done all the time when additional funding is needed or a new program needs funding.

  14. Lucky Duck

News 4 had Cory Stewart on the 4 PM news last night and he stated that he wanted to change the Resolution from “probable cause” to “reasonable suspicion” from the officer’s perspective in order to inquire into immigration status.

“Probable cause” is a much higher standard in Law Enforcement than is “Reasonable Suspicion”. Under this clause, it will lower the standard of evidence needed for an officer to inquire as to immigration status.

I am surpised that nobody else mentioned that the Chairman was on New 4 last night with Julie Carey and declared that he had 7 votes to address this today.

  15. Mando

“Can they just sneak that stuff in there without public notice? ”

Well, they snuck in the probable cause change behind closed doors to the dismay of citizens. It appears they’re finally getting around to listening to their citizens and putting the teeth back in.

  16. Lucky Duck

Admin, it sure sounded like she mispronounced that word. Perhaps a mental error.

But that is a substantial shift that most people will not fully comprehend.

  17. admin

    Mando,
Remember Stewart sent out the email blast and got public input before he ‘strengthened’ it the last time. This smells of desperation on his part.

I’m going to start a new thread for this topic.

  18. WhyHereWhyNow

I stand corrected. Corey Stewart has not only lost his marbles, he’s lost his sense of dignity.

This man would sooner see Prince William County’s economy, quality of life, and reputation around the world damaged for generations than admit he made a mistake. “Stay the course, Mr. Stewart,” was the advice from Disaster Duecaster three weeks ago. “You must support this Resolution” was the threat from Gospel Greg six months ago. Corey Stewart is Prince William County’s own G.W. Bush, with less intelligence, less diplomacy, and less contrition. I have mountains more respect for Bush. At least the plotters who duped him were credible at the time.

I am now prepared to say that Corey Stewart, a man I once supported, would sooner earn the legacy “He Insisted His Board Cave In To F.A.I.R.,” than admit he got some lousy advice from these Washington D.C. lobbyists who fancied his constituents as lab rats for a hopeless experiment for reversing the inevitable trend toward a dynamic, multi-ethnic, and multi-cultural American society. That society, whether xenophobes and eugenicists like it or not, is coming. And Corey Stewart will be remembered along side segregationist governor George Wallace as the myopic fool of his era, blinded by his own ambition, and the backward thinking of the immoral extremists who corrupted him.

  19. Good Lord.

That’s about all I can say.
