If you are a little shakey on Woodbridge directions, this restaurant is in the Featherstone Shopping Center where Kilroys is. (Very close to Opitz but across route 1)
I had a hard time finding it last time. But everyone from Manassas gets lost when they go to Woodbridge.
I think of Woodbridge as driving in a foriegn country. I can only get to a couple of places down there. Do folks from Woodbridge get lost when the come to Manassas?
again, another mexican restaurant chosen. I think it’s ludicrous to say you support the economy when you are supporting a single base of restaurants (in this case hispanic ones) there are other places to eat in prince william county you know, just break out the phone book or drive around, you’ll find plenty.
if you all are really interesting in saving the economy then do it, otherwise change the name from “save the economy” to save the immigrant’s or something like that.
to all readers with some common sense: spread your money around, not dish into one establishment. Give equal and even distribution of your money to a wide variety of establishments. Dont fall victim to the propaganda of 9500 liberty and this blog, they obviously want you to support one particular restaurant.
elvis,
First of all, one of the restaurants we patronized was owned by a korean immigrant but did serve Mexican/Salvadorean food.
Second, it’s the immigrant segment of the economy that appears to have been most affected but it’s nice to hear that they are rebounding.
We’d still like to meet you if you can make it. Did someone offer to buy elvis a drink before?
And lastly, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
Oh dear, are people in this county STILL trained to have such a big problem with “Mexicans” and “immigrants?”
The attitude Elvis exhibits is actually quite a strong argument for doing something to supporti our neighbors and our local businesses who may be adversely affected by a social environment polluted by people trained to see them as undesirable.
Listen, the 2007 election is over. There will never be another viable candidate running on an anti-immigrant agenda. So why don’t you well-trained anti-immigrant bloggers just take a break until someone comes up with a new minority for you to scapegoat for political gain? It won’t be long.
not sure what you mean by anti-immigrant, I have one living in my house (and have for over 15 years) and it’s not the maid. and the 2007 election? I hope you dont mean the presidential election because it has not happened yet.
you are not supporting anything but those you feel “sorry” for, your retort just goes to show that I’m entirely correct. you picked a hispanic restautrant with a hispanic name. you want nothing to do with strengthening the economy as a whole, you want to support the immigrant community, this is fine. just make sure that you “say” you are supporting the immigrant economy instead of lying and saying you are supporting “the entire” enconomy. sure it’s a play on words but in this case it’s very important to note. Supporting the economy means spreading funds everywhere, not in one place. what you are doing is supporting one restaurant, not many. honestly my idea of “supporting the economy” is blowing my tax return at potomac mills or putting a new stereo system in my car..to each his own. I think someone needs to look at “truth in advertising” here, why dont you rename your “support the economy” party to “support the immigrant”, again perfectly fine just state the real intended purpose of the event.
I didnt attend the last party (although I really do love to support the economy) when I looked back at previous parties and noticed they were at immigrant establishments. In the interest of fairness what about non-immigrant establishments? Dont they deserve a little economy boost as well? If this is supposed to be one big melting-pot of a country why do they deserve special treatment?
It does not appear to me that the non-immigrant owned establishments are suffering any loss in business. There are cars upon cars in the parking lots any night of the week. Just look at Applebee’s, Logan’s, Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel, KC’s. O’Meara’s recently closed but not due to a lack of business. It closed due to violations and fines.
Unfortunately establishments with Hispanic names are suffering. Not all those establishments are owned by Hispanics or immigrants. The majority of their clientele was Hispanic. With the flight of Hispanics, legal and illegal, from our area these businesses owners are losing their livelihood. What difference does it make if we go to El Portal, Casablanca, K C’s, Applebee’s ,etc.? Don’t the sales tax dollars support the economy.
Brief summary for Elvis: Virginia politicians destroyed our reputation, our sense of community, AND our economy for the purposes of winning the 2007 Virginia state election. Some politicians benefited. Most did not. Soon after, John McCain won the GOP Presidential primary and anti-immigrant scapegoating as a political platform was on the way out.
Some good, common-sense people were turned against each other in the process. Some seem to want to continue. But the whole anti-immigrant hysteria campaign has produced zero political gain while producing long-term damage to, not only this community and this economy, but also that of EVERY OTHER jurisdiction to take this shameful and immoral path.
So why keep the faith, Elvis? What could you possibly have to gain? Come to a party. Meet some of the people you think you’re supposed to hate. My guess is you won’t leave with the same assumptions and resentments you call upon when writing on this blog.
Couple of nice Greek resturants near me, but they are both run by immigrants. When I patronize them am I also ‘saving the immigrant’s’? From the looks of it, they are doing quite well and managing to support three families. Ooops, there’s that immigrant ‘thang’ again – families.
Well, if we here in the good ole USA were able to keep families together and be more traditional like some of these immigrant families I guess we would understand supporting each other and working as a family.
Just a thought.
elvis,
What we have in this county is Ethnic Cleansing USA circa 2008. You see we’re a very civilized people. We’ve figured out how to engage in ethnic cleansing without the use of any bullets. It’s bloodless…but hardly painless. And then we pat ourselves on the back and say how civilized we are because we’re upholding law and order. And we say how evil the ‘invaders’ are because they encourage lawlessness.
Hah! Some of us still know what justice is my friend. We have our eyes wide open. Keep walking along with your eyes wide shut. Bow down and grovel before the law with the rest of the cowards who love comfort and fear freedom. Laws that you yourself break everyday when it suits you every time you drive down the highway or cross the street outside of an intersection.
Remember what MLK said? ‘Everything Hitler did was legal.’
As Citizens, it is right and good that we ask ‘What is the Law?’
As Americans (at least those of us who have read and absorbed our nation’s history), we always ask a second question ‘Is the Law Just?’
We ask this question because real Americans always remember that our country was BORN out of a rebellion against unjust laws. ‘No taxation without representation!’ remember?
And who in our community now pays taxes and has no representation?
Happy Father’s Day 🙂

Hey people,
Have y’all heard about the flooding that’s wiping out most of Iowa.
According to this report, Immigration is among Iowa voters’ top concerns and many Iowans support deportation:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16332979
I wonder if the bigots of Iowa asked for papers from the undocumented when they need them to do sandbagging now? What do you think?
Could it be that the haters gave the undocumented a pass when they needed their manpower to save the homes of the anti-immigrant crowd? And after the floodwaters recede, could it be that the pass will be revoked? What would GregL recommend?
Honestly, I have half a mind to fly to Iowa and volunteer to help while telling everyone I’m an illegal immigrant. I’ll carry a videocamera and record the reactions. It would be priceless, dontcha think? It would be awesome if the police arrested me in the middle of sandbagging on suspicion of being illegal…
How about this? Why don’t we let the market decide what establishments survive? Here’s a great case-in-point: Ashton Family Restaurant, at the corner of Ashton and Cockrell in Manassas. The establishemnt is owned by four brothers, all legal immigrants from Guatemala. These gentlemen did it the right way. They came here legally, worked hard, and assimilated. Go there any night, and the place is packed. Why? because they offer a superior dining experience, great service, great food. They don’t cater to any particular segement of the community. Their menu is international, and so is their staff. Because they did it the right way, the community rewards them with their business, so much so, that they opened a second business: Primo Pizzaria, at the corner of Wellington and Libera. This site is booming as well. They don’t need your pity, or your support to survive.
You all are falling for the liberal trap of propping up businesses that should otherwise fail. By holding your little symbolic parties, all you are doing is delaying the inevitable. These businesses will fail. If you cater to a specific segement of the market, and that market goes away, your business should fail. Just like the real estate agents and mortgage brokers who preyed upon people who should not have been able to purchase homes. I have no pity for those who catered to an unstable market, and now the chickens have come home to roost.
Mr. Ed said:
‘and that market goes away’? Try ethnically cleansed Mr. Ed.
Well aren’t the floods the immigrants fault? They are to blame for foreclosures so why not blame them for floods. They are after all the new horsemen of the apocalypse -they’ve been blamed for Death (all homicides now committed by illegal immigrants), Pestilance (yup, that too), Famine (is coming) and War (is likely).
Mackie, seeing that you’ve so mercilessly lampooed Elvis, I have to admit I feel a little bad for starting it. I admit I can never keep track of which mean-sounding person said which mean-sounding thing. But on this thread, all Elvis really said was he’d like the “Save the Economy” parties to also help some non-ethnic and non-immigrant businesses.
Had he said it in a less angry way, I’d have to admit it isn’t so unreasonable a request (there have GOT to be non-ethnic businesses affected by the exodus of such a large work-force and its spending power caused by the Immigration Resolution).
So, while you’re observations are characteristically witty and incisive, and your analogies are valid and illuminating, I’m wondering if you can justify directing them at Elvis. Did he say something elsewhere that is akin to ethnic cleansing?
If not, perhaps we should reserve such eviscerating posts for the likes of Gospel Greg and (Economic) Disaster Duecaster?
Actually, there was a mini meeting of folks here at anit and it helped a very mainstream specialty restaurant a few months ago. Maria, Censored, Alanna know where I am speaking of. That restaurant has been hard hit because of the community it serves. Hopefully we gave it a little boost. Trust me, it was about as far from a Latino restaurant as you can get.
I am sure that 9500 Liberty would take all suggestions into consideration for party locations. Let’s see, City Tavern or Grille: support your local Greek immigrant. Chinese Imperial: Support your local Chinese restaurant. Mama Mias: Support your local middle eastern immigrant. These people appear to be rolling in dough. Am I wrong?
I think the point 9500 Liberty is trying to make is that we are going to places KNOWN to be struggling to stay afloat. ‘Supporting the economy’ certainly goes a lot deeper than just paying in to the the restaurant. If the restuarant stays in business, they are still on the tax rolls, they show up to others as open (no ghost town appearance), not subject to vandalism and they provide employment. It is good for the county whatever business we support.
WhyHereWhyNow:
Oh I always try to inform the bvbl mob about my version of The Truth. I usually get cyber-deported after every post and have to use my technical skills to evade Greg’s cyber-wall and sneak back onto the blog…like an immigrant crossing the border…
No one has been told to leave they county. It’s a choice. I guess the consequences of being caught committing a crime if you are not here legally are just not worth it to stay. Choice PEOPLE CHOICE.
Ed,
When I watch the party video, the slogan that sticks out for me is “We can preserve our community”. The spirit of these events is much more about community than economics. Honestly speaking, one night of good business will not “save” any of these restaurants.
But we are supporting something more important than our economy when we come together and say we are not going to allow the most extreme members of our community control or define Prince William County. It is important to maintain a sense of inclusion and appreciation for various cultures, even the ones that are currently being scapegoated. And it is important not to be afraid to speak out about this, if, of course, it is the way you feel, by coming to one of these parties, or speaking at Citizens’ Time, or whatever.
If you feel the opposite way about inclusion and diversity, you do nothing but strengthen our determination by making an example of yourself here.
Mackie, you must have a strong stomach to spend any amount of time in the polluted septic tank that is Gospel Greg blog. I commend you for that. And, as I’ve said, your posts are spectacular. I just want to know if Elvis belongs in the same septic tank with Gospel Greg.
I’m not defending him. I just don’t have the type of brain that can properly distinguish the various stages of anti-immigrant hysteria. From what I recall, Elvis has a mild case. Am I wrong?
You could always try Tony’s Pizza in the Manassas Shopping Center – good
food at a good price – believe the folks who run the the place are first
or second generation immigrants.
WhyHereWhyNow,
Elvis is fully entitled to his opinion. And I certainly would never ask him to hold back for fear of offending me or anyone else. I want elvis to feel free to express himself without restraint.
And I hope he extends the same courtesy to me.
Anon, I really hope you haven’t stumbled over your nose saying all that choice crap.
If I had a lot of time to waste I could go gather up all the times the suggestion to leave has been made. Perhaps I could just go over to bvbl and start copying and pasting. But why bother.
We all know what was said. I don’t even think YOU believe what you have said.
Hey guys,
I found two great videos on the Ethnic Cleansers vs. Human-Beings going on in Oklahoma.
part1 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=848J2pic9uM
part2 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThvKWYFyXK0&NR=1
They have an organization like HSM. Its called I.R.O.N. It’s quite illuminating to hear what they say about immigrants in their meetings in the first video. More proof that for the HSM types Immigration Law is just a tool to pursue the bloodless Ethnic Cleansing…
Excellent videos, Mackie. If you close your eyes and don’t listen real closely when the place is named, you would think you were back home in Kansas, listening to the man behind the curtain.
Mackie,
I don’t buy into ethnic cleansing nor do I buy into an invasion ( use to think so about the invasion part)
I QUESTION if it is all a DISTRACTION.
I saw your post on the other thread about paying income taxes and the question you proposed about it being found in the constitution. It is a long video and I don’t have time right now but I will watch it.
Here is a video I found the other day about NAFTA and found it interesting.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TShPYA-OuPs
NAFTA is a distraction.
Hi Red Dawn,
I know the video is long in the councilman under fire thread but I highly recommend it when you get the chance. Red Dawn, remember that movie the matrix? Remember that scene when the character Neo was asked to make a choice. Take the blue pill for the seductive illusion of slavery in a golden cage…or the red pill for the painful reality of the truth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_8Zq_iWuFg
Take the red pill…
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1656880303867390173&q=freedom+to+fascism&ei=dYlVSOC6O4OWrgK8wNDyDg&hl=en
The Matrix is just a movie, but if you allow yourself to look closely you will find a very important theme of freedom vs. slavery…and what the price of freedom is.
NAFTA is an example how our rights and freedom can be easily trampled upon when business in collusion with our govt choose to do so. If we don’t educate ourselves we won’t be able to resist in time to stop it.
Mackie,
I will look into that too ( I never watched the movie all the way through)
I just came in as we are outside celebrating Fathers day and my dad confirmed the constitution / income tax thing….he is a CHARACTER, an old sailor that has a lot to say if you can listen to every other word( cuss word=every other word) he gets fired up!!!! LOL 🙂
Red Dawn,
You’re Dad sounds like a hoot!
Nuthin’ like a bit o’ cussin’…
to get one’s blood up and get one fussin’!
Mackie,
He is a hoot! He pulls NO punches and that is one thing I can say that am proud to have learned from him. He tells it like it is wrong or right and most of time he is right! He follows no protocol with in his constitutional rights.
I was wondering why you kept using the word matrix, now that I know you got something out of that movie, I have to watch it and see.
I am sure you have seen Red Dawn 🙂
Red Dawn,
Take the time and kick back and watch that video!!
Will you be there Friday night?
Ruby,
Ummm, just like a friend answered me to the same question I had….wouldn’t YOU like to know 🙂 hah hah 🙂
Ok Alanna and Elena, I thought this blog was about finding middle ground and solutions to improve our community for everyone. I see in this thread that perhaps I am mistaken.
It is painfully obvious that it has become a one opinion blog and those that don’t drink the kool aid are in a defensive mode from the tag team of illegal immigration supporters. Are all individuals who are not necessarily supporters of illegal immigration racist? Are they supporters of “ethnic cleansing” as has been put forth in this thread? (see posts 16:22 and 18:22).
Realizing that a compromise is the only way to achieve an immigration solution, do the pro illegal supporters expect all compromise to be on the anti illegal immigration side? According to some contributors on this thread, to express anything less than complete acceptance of their viewpoint is akin to being a racist or desiring ethnic cleaning. Just go back and read some of the contributions on this thread.
I do not support illegal immigration, but I realize that to deport 12 million people is not viable, would injure families, tear apart communities and seriously disrupt the local and national economy. But the fact is that everyone who is here illegally or in undocumented status if you please, cannot stay. Some will be able to, but there will be some heartbreak in any compromised solution. Yet, a lot of the contributors to this thread see no compromise, only their way or your a racist.
I did not support the resolution. I was at McCoart on October 16th and witnessed the dignity and passion of the anti resolution side, I admired their focus and determination, just as I cringed when some members of HSM (whom I in no way support) spoke in terrible tones. But I do realize that there are concerns on both sides of our community that need to addressed. It will never be one way or the highway because then the problem will never end, but some writers on this thread don’t see it that way.
Too much of that kool aid and you’ll see no compromise because neither side will accept totally giving in and your blog, which I feel is much better right now than “the other”, will simply become a mirror opposite in mandated opinion.
LuckyDuck
I think most of us think as you do. Really.
Somedays this blog goes one way and other days it reverses.
Your point is well taken, intolerance is simply that regardless of which ‘side’ you are on.
Lucky Duck,
There will always be 2 sides and the people in the MIDDLE who will contribute.
I have personally decided to moved on from that and choose to look OUTSIDE the box for answers.
I hope this helps in being tolerant and opens up the door that 2 sides can volley with a referee but what about the spectators?
forgot to say that THIS blog will let it ALL take place….sometimes, I go back with my best NERD voice and ask: did I say that? 🙂
Thank you, Juturna. Intolerance of other’s opinion, no matter how right you think you are and how wrong the other side is, is still intolerance. People should open their minds…on both sides of this argument.
Lucky Duck, don’t feel badly. I was run out of here for the same reasons that you say. But gee, whiz, we love everyone here. Maybe I will just make little snippets of the hate-filled speech on here but wait–I am not allowed to say anything because I don’t always agree.
By the way, has anyone noticed that I suggested a solutions section but you can’t post there? That is even when others have said something about not being able to post(not me because I have been accused of terrible things like trying to discuss something that works.)
There is no desire to compromise on anything
Hi PW County Resident, I will not be run out of anywhere. I am just pointing out that too far off the scale on one side is just as bad as being too far off the other.
Lucky Ducky,
Compromise is fine over issues where compromise is a virtue. Like compromising with your wife over buying the family car.
Compromise over issues like the Ethnic Cleansing that IS taking place in our county…and is serving as a template for the Ethnic Cleansing that is engulfing our country…compromise is the opposite of virtue.
We stop this s**t here…and we stop it now.
I will call evil, evil…I will fight for the soul of my country…compromise be damned.
And if we are so lost that words are not enough. So be it.
Lucky Duck, you are so right! People should open their minds on both sides of the argument. It’s not easy to do. It seems like people really aren’t interested in dialogue, just staying entrenched in their own opinion.
What is the difference in being open minded and tolerant? I would think you would have to have to be both in order to compromise. Where is the notch on the scale that says it goes beyond or considered to be “out there”? When does it reach the point when you have to turn in your paper when your not done researching?
Lucky duck, I think you make a very good point. I think the claws and attack modes need to chill. Intolerance does operate on both sides.
The immigration issue will be settled by compromise. One ‘side’ will not win over another. I think what has happened with the BOCS and the resolution illustrates that. I believe the compromise will have to come at the federal level and will have to include a path for citizenship for those here. Those who don’t want that will have to leave.
Unfortunately, when we start talking about ‘sides,’ there seems to be the ‘side’ presented by F.A.I.R. and organizations like HSM and everyone else who doesn’t happen to agree lock, step and barrel. There simply is no room for any variance in opinion or you are shouted down. I sure don’t want antibvbl to end up like that.
A PW County Resident,
I think you have misread some things. Have you emailed the admin and asked about these things? She isn’t here just to serve this blog. Email her and ask about the solutions section being fixed. I am sure she would try to accommodate you.
However, when you gripe about everyone here, it makes us regulars less likely to be accommodating. I don’t think I have been mean to you but I feel you threw me under the bus in your statements.
Makie, knock off the “ethnic cleansing” cr*p. Most of us want no ethnic cleansing but something that works for mankind. But it appears that it isn’t possible because of people that say “gospel greg”, “ethnic cleansing”, “nazi”, “nativist” and can we try my favorite “xenophobic”?
Sorry, Moon-howler but if you want to have me quote what you said about me before in another thread, I will find it. I threw no one under any bus. And KG said she emailed the admin about the problem about 3 weeks ago. So, just a suggestion–before you accuse me of something, look first at what you said to me.
My posts have all been about toning down rhetoric and finding solutions but that is not the point here. It is like the other board and when you realize that this board is merely a mirror image of the other board, you may realize people’s frustrations.
And KG I think even told me she was emailing you to tell me that I was okay when you went after me before.
