SPRINGFIELD | The wife of a founder of the Ozarks Minutemen has
pleaded guilty to lying about being raped and shot by three Hispanic
men.
Angela D. Wilburn, 44, appeared in Greene County Associate Circuit
Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to making a false report, a class
B misdemeanor. Wilburn is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 3. She could
face up to six months in prison and a $500 fine.
Wilburn is the wife of Brian Wilburn, who helped form the Ozarks
Minutemen. She was charged with the crime in December, after calling
911 reporting someone had shot her.
Angela Wilburn told investigators that three Hispanic men broke into
her mobile home and that one of the men sexually assaulted her in the
hallway, then shot her in the knee with a handgun.
She soon retracted her story and said she heard a noise, and grabbed
her husband’s gun. She told police the gun went off as she reached for
a flashlight.
By the time Angela Wilburn made the admission, Greene County deputies
had already spent more than 100 man-hours investigating the fictitious
attack.
The sheriff’s department said in December it would seek restitution
from Angela Wilburn for the wasted time. Such repayment could be part
of her sentence, said Greene County Chief Deputy Jim Arnott.
Not funny! She should have the book thrown at her for doing something like that. I don’t care who she is or who her husband is, making a false report like that should be punished to the full extent of the law plus she should have to pay for any police hours spent on looking into her false claim.
What an act of evil.
True Evil because there was no necessity to lie about shooting herself. Accidents happen. As crazy as it seems, it sounds like she saw an opportunity to hurt some hispanics and went for it.
Imagine what the husband was preparing to do to some hispanics he may have cornered. Imagine what the rest of the minutemen he contacted would have done. Incidents like this should serve as warning signs that innocent blood will be shed as we continue down this crazy path we’re on.
This is exactly why I purchased a firearm and carry it now with a concealed handgun permit. I plan to purchase another one so I have a main semiauto and a backup revolver.
If this woman had been a better liar, does anyone doubt this story would have been plastered all over Fox News and that POS Glenn Beck?
Some people are just looking for an excuse to start shooting. Their numbers are growing. Why are we doing this to ourselves?
Mackie,
Are you coming tonight?
Mackie,
Did that email address I left for you not work? I want to know the secret.
I promise to wear the school tie. ho ho ho
[email protected]
This is comical. Mackie admits to packing concealed heat and wishing to purchase a semi-auto then you ask if he’s coming. Priceless.
Too funny. Maybe Mackie is preparing for an old fashioned rumble. Mackie is getting ready in case Greg or his worshipers come. Would be funny to see who would win if they show up and Mackie shows up. Could be very very very interesting indeed!
Mackie is going to carry a semi-automatic AND a backup revolver at the same time. He sounds like the terminator with a gun in each hand.
Look out – here comes Mackie down the street – get out of his way – or he’ll blast you out of his way!
Yes, that’s exactly the kind of person I would want to come to a party!
He’s going to shoot himself in the knee and blame three white dudes with HSM stickers. LOL… such a fitting response from Mackie to an asinine story. I’M PACKING NOW!!!
I’ll quote ya:
“Some people are just looking for an excuse to start shooting. Their numbers are growing. Why are we doing this to ourselves?”
What irony!
Hello,
I’m in a 100% agreement. I really think in these kinds of cases they should have to pony up the bucks for any and all law enforcement agencies ran up. The “run away bride” sure comes to mind. It’s a different kind of case yet still fits the bill for the paying for the services that were spent looking for her. She could’ve stopped the madness by letting someone know she was ok, and not in any kind of danger. I think some good old fashioned community service is also fitting for these cases. This woman needs some mental help perhaps.
Mando – I guess for Mackie this thread should be titled “Shoot yourself, blame an HSM member”! I see Mackie coming down the street with his big sombrero and a pistol in each hand – watch out – make way for “pistol packing Mackie”!
I see Mackie facing off with HSM members – it will be like the gunfight at the OK Corral! I wonder who will win?
“Some people are just looking for an excuse to start shooting. Their numbers are growing. Why are we doing this to ourselves?”
Too funny! Mackie, aren’t you adding to those numbers? Or do you carry unloaded weapons only, just for show – so you look tough and mean?
Moon-howler,
Sorry, I’ve been busy at work. I just haven’t had the time. I’ll try to send out an email.
Alanna,
I can’t say for sure if I’m going. I’ve got other plans but they might fall through.
Mando and OneForTheRoad,
Your posts gave me a good laugh! Especially the last one from Mando. Yes it would be just my luck to shoot myself in the knee.
No, I woke up to how dangerous our county is becoming last year when the mexican migrant was murdered in February. I have many family members who don’t carry any means of self defense and I worry for their safety as well as mine. It’s always wise to avoid confrontation, espceially now.
Unfortunately, when a situation erupts like the one in the video above, confrontation may come looking for you or your family members.
A few months ago Greg made a post on his blog similar to the video above. A 10 year old girl was raped and she thought a hispanic guy did it. I don’t know if the rape was real, but on Greg’s post, he made it sound like the perpetrator was almost certainly hispanic. He encouraged his minions to jump to the defense of the community (i.e. you know which community) and hunt down the perpetrator. I wonder what would have happened to me if I had been close by and Greg’s minions had decided to canvass the town looking for a perp…
I honestly believe my life would have been in danger.
I posted on the thread that Greg should just sit tight and wait for the police to ask for the community’s help.
Greg erased my post…
Hey, Mando and OneFor, what did you think of the open-carry guys who visited Tony’s Pizza? Were they a bunch of pistol-packing show-offs?
@ Censored
Dunno. Wasn’t there.
Do you think Mackie is overreacting?
Mando,
The 2nd amendment is very well respected in Virginia although it still could be better in a few ways. All virginians have the right to open carry and concealed carry if you take the obligated safety course and you have a clean record.
If you want to paint me as some pistol packing terminator for exercising my rights, so be it.
Greg has often times mentioned on his blog that he also exercises his 2nd amendment rights and carries a concealed firearm. I applaud him for exercising his rights.
I also never saw you posting on BVBL that Greg was overreacting. I guess that’s one of those things that make you go Hmmmmm…
I didn’t bring up any issue with a person’s right to carry.
“I don’t know if the rape was real, but on Greg’s post, he made it sound like the perpetrator was almost certainly hispanic. He encouraged his minions to jump to the defense of the community (i.e. you know which community) and hunt down the perpetrator. I wonder what would have happened to me if I had been close by and Greg’s minions had decided to canvass the town looking for a perp…”
I think you may be embelishing a bit.
I don’t totally agree with either blog, but the hypocracy seems to run a bit deeper here mainly because it claims to be something that BVBL is not.
BTW. The rape was for real. It was a few doors down from where my grandmother lives and the perp was hispanic and he was illegal. My daughter went to the same school the girl went to. I didn’t consider going out to buy a semi-auto or sit outside my daughter’s bedroom with a shot gun at night.
And no Mackie, I don’t think all rapists are hispanic or vice versa.
Both stories were placed in the blogs for one reason: to get emotions all riled up. And you, Mackie, have fallen for it hook, line, and sinker.
“Both stories were placed in the blogs for one reason: to get emotions all riled up. And you, Mackie, have fallen for it hook, line, and sinker.”
I want to amend that statement. The story of the 10 year old girl that was posted on the BVBL blog was not placed there to get emotions riled up. That was a mistatement on my part. More of a community concern issue and I wouldn’t have known about it if it weren’t for BVBL as it apparently wasn’t considered newsworthy.
Did it get emotions riled up? Yes, and I feel rightly so but that wasn’t it’s main intent.
Mando,
I support your right not to arm yourself. You should never purchase a firearm unless you’re sure you can handle it safely and then I would highly recommend that you take an NRA certified course on firearm safety even if you don’t feel you need to.
I’ve been planning to buy a semi-auto for a long time. I have a revolver at the moment. They’re very easy to use and extremely reliable. That’s why I chose it as a starter firearm. I haven’t bought a semi yet because I haven’t had the time that’s necessary to invest in it’s proficiency. They’re much more complex than revolvers. Many more fine muscle movements are required to operate them and they can jam even under the best conditions. They have some great advantages, notably reload speed, but In my opinion no one should start with a semi because of the complexity. It’s better to work your way up to it.
If you look at your posts above it was you that has their emotions all riled up. You even go so far as to accuse me of being capable of the evil this woman was capable of. Your posts are full of exclamation points and capital letters which betray a very agitated condition.
In my posts, I made a few statements and posed a few questions. As a gentleman, I even tried to laugh off your insults and lunatic wishes that I shoot myself.
I think it’s clear here who has lost their composure.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to here. I’d be interested in knowing what you mean.
Mando,
Ha ha, ok. Amendment rejected. I remember the post very well. Greg’s intention was to capitalize on a tragedy to galvanize more hatred towards immigrants. The intent was unmistakable.
Otherwise, why do you think he erased my post where I told him to sit tight and wait for the police to ask the community for help?
I get it. Tonight’s the night everyone runs over here to anti and tries to stir up something with Mackie. Ah, he is more than capable of delivering a little verbal whup-ass if need be. I have complete faith in him.
Moon-howler’s got my back!
I’m not sure why some posters feel a need to attack me. I would prefer that they attack my point of view.
Alanna,
Could we possibly refrain from moderating posts with links? I use lotsa links to get my points across but the moderating kinda gets in the way. It messes up the tempo of a debate as we wait for our posts to show up. I’d like to put in a humble request that we refrain from moderating posts with links.
for all the posts about this type of issues there are hundreds more stories about illegal aliens raping and killing people all over the place, many happen in prince william county on a daily basis. just the other day a suspect illegal rear-ended a person and then split before the police could show, luckily the victim obtained a license plate number and the person was found later on in the day.
i dont condone the above persons acts, but if the blog attests to promote both sides of the issue to meet in the middle then post something from the right since you apparently like to swing so far to the left…
Mackie wrote “I’m not sure why some posters feel a need to attack me. I would prefer that they attack my point of view.”
You are one to talk, Mackie. Hypocrisy at its finest.
Elvis – get used to it – they say this blog is looking for common ground, but it is tilted so far to the left and likes to promote fear and propoganda – yet they claim to be “not like the other blog”. More hypocrisy.
elvis:
Attention…elvis has left the stratosphere…
The woman deserves an Amnesty. Yes, she told a lie – and that was wrong. But I’m sure she had her reasons. In the end she probably is just trying to get by and feed her family like anyone else. What purpose would it serve to make her pay restitution? It will just take money out of the mouths of any children she has or her husband – or, if she has no kids at a minimum it will hurt the whole community in that her purchasing power will be diminished – and in time of a recession. It could also increase the odds of her home being foreclosed on.
Everyone’s good at heart naturally and to be trusted. Laws are just general guidelines, not meant to be taken literally. I think she deserves an Amnesty. Juan McCain and Ted Kennedy should be enlisted forthwith. Lindsay Graham should start crying on her behalf. And maybe the bloggers here can take up her cause and play a part.
Oh wait, i forgot, she’s an Americvan citizen. Well then let’s assume her privileged and subject to our laws. No amnesty for her.
This womans lie was meant to purposefully harm and create an environment where an innocent hispanic person could have been the victim of vigilantism. There aren’t hate crimes rising against militia men, but there are hate crimes rising against hispanics, per the FBI’s most recent statistics. I find it interesting, that Mando, Onefortheroad, and Rick, are unable to seperate their emotions from this outrageous event. Now, this isn’t just ANY woman, she is the wife of a minuteman and this is what was in their minutes from the last meeting of the Ozark Minutement:
“Bryan Dinsmore advised the group that according to reports, last Friday night/Saturday morning there was a home invasion by at least two Hispanic men at Brian Wilburn’s residence while he was working. Brian’s wife, Angie, was sexually assaulted and shot in the knee. Bryan Dinsmore plans to bring up this matter at the next City Council meeting and connect it to the inadequate number of law enforcement officers in the city. In addition to these actions, it was also decided all donations received tonight would be reserved for the benefit of Brian and Angie.”
The reason why this news story is relevant, is because people like Greg use these stories to convince a vulnerable public, afraid and angry, that the “invasion” of illegals, i.e. hispanics, is cause for action, there is no mercy for such an inferior sect of people, we should all be afraid of the “brown” people.
I was just being silly … OK I see your point. Though I don’t agree that Greg particularly does that to a “vulnerable” public. Illegal immigration does make our streets less safe, and some of us are trying to make that understood.
The point that I shoehorned in about not letting people off is valid too though I believe. Laws are not meant to be jokes. Even the ones that impede wage reduction in America and continued cash flow to our ruling class.
Rick,
I appreciate that you saw my point. I do believe Greg creates propoganda to incite fear, anger, and resentment witin an already tense environment. I believe that you and many people have valid concerns, but scapegoating an entire group of people, in hopes of getting rid of a few bad apples, is just simply wrong to me. Immigration is complicated, and the situation we are in right will require well thought out and indepth comprehensive answers.
A person who shoots him/herself to support a lie is a little more than just screwed up IMHO. Someone please raise the “wacko” flag.
Mackie, you’re scaring me with this gun talk. You sound like someone else I’ve heard.
In the end, I don’t think guns will be what truly protect us. A healthy balance of justice, order, compassion, respect, productivity and peace is the best defense any person or country can have.
Elena, I was the the early HSM meetings, and watched Greg steer the organization away from anger and fear. Of which there is a boatload to go around.
I am not just concerned with getting rid of the “bad apples”. I am also concerned that if we reward crimninal behavior, in any way, we will get more of it. The welcome mat is either rolled out, or it is not. I vote not.
Rick, another point we’ll have agree to disagree, what I saw Greg do on his blog was fear mongering at its best. HSM and BVBL are one in the same. Rick, seriously, is this a guy you “want” to trust? Someone who believes G-d has put his elected officials in their position, so if you “disobey your elected official you disobey G-d”. Someone who thinks that slavery was G-d’s way of helping “us” be better because the “struggle grew us closer to G-d”. Well, what about all those poor Africans that had to suffer for centuries to “help us grow closer to G-d”.

kgotthardt:
Yes, I probably shouldn’t have mentioned it. I didn’t think anyone would make such a big deal out of it. I’ve gotten so used to carrying one, that it almost feels unnatural not to have one. But I understand guns are scary at first. I’ve never owned one before and there is no gun culture in my family. I’m the first. It takes some time to get used to actually handling one. The safety classes helped a lot. Now, I’ve become confident so that I’m still cautious but no longer afraid of my firearm. I’m starting to become an aficionado of firearms. I think it will be a good hobby.
I don’t “trust” anyone, and don’t share Greg’s faith in supreme beings. But I feel he’s done a great (inspirational, really) job at using legal and ethical mechanisms to get local goverment to respond to the needs and the will of the people. He showed tremendous leadership and has helped to accomplish much.
And he DID show real leadership. HSM could have a had a much more physically aggressive bent to it. He provided a civil forum for that anger and fear you speak of to be harnessed into – if it hadn’t existed I think you’d be a lot unhappier with pretty much ANYONE else’s approach.
A lot of us were angry as hell and ready for war before we ever heard of Greg L. If I had started a blog I would be posting liscense plates of people who hire illegals, posting addresses and phone numbers of businesses that employ them, camcording people that go into flophouses, encouraging constant contact with local politicians and officials, etc. just for starters.
To me it looks like he exploited quality of life grievances to advance his agenda of exiling a certain group of people.
I don’t see why quality of life grievances could not be addressed as such as Sharon Pandak eloquently explained Oct 16.
I think he was trying to address what he saw in his own neighborhood.
What is Pandak’s solution? And what is so wrong with trying to discourage people from illegal border crossing and identity theft?
And while I agree with what Elena said that “Greg use these stories to convince a vulnerable public, afraid and angry, that the “invasion” of illegals, i.e. hispanics, is cause for action, there is no mercy for such an inferior sect of people, we should all be afraid of the “brown” people.” Doesn’t the continual mention of things like ethnic cleansing, Holocaust, etc. on this blog do the same thing on the other side of the equation? To me, it is not fair to call out Greg for his use of terms to incite fear while the same thing is being done by many posters on this blog – using terms like Holocaust, ethnic cleansing, etc. to convince a vulnerable public that what is going on in PWC is like any of those things.
I don’t see the difference, and again we will have to agree to disagree about that.
And as Rick Bentley stated, it may be an exaggeration to say Greg himself promoted all these things. Certainly a subset of people on his blog, and a subset of HSM members, may indeed say those things, and in fact Greg may have steered away HSM from this kind of stuff. His blog is another story of course. But then again, it seems it is OK for this blog to be filled with posts about the Holocaust, ethnic cleansing, and other terms which to me are for the same purpose: to instill fear and promote propaganda – for one side of the argument. I’m not sure how that is any better than the terms you seem to be protesting against that are used by some posters on Greg’s blog.
I call it Bloodless Ethnic Cleansing (BEC). Not simply Ethnic Cleansing.
Fine, but my argument remains the same whether you call it “Bloodless Ethnic Cleansing” or just “Ethnic Cleansing”.
Rick Bentley, did Greg rachet down and redirect the anger in order to affect a particular political outcome for a particular political party and a particular interest group?
