171 Thoughts to “McCain on Immigration”

  1. Thanks for posting that Alanna. Just in case you all missed it, this little speech was made on June 5th, 2007 when the Anti-Immigrant Lobby was just getting started in Prince William County and the rest of us were about to turn on Channel 23 and say what the hell hit us?!

This speech was made when McCain was in last place and probably the only person in the U.S. who thought he had a chance of being the nominee.

Love how it cuts to that bigot hypocrite Tom Tancredo gnashing his teeth! Nash your teeth into retirement, bigot.

  2. oops. gnash, I meant. but Tancredo is still the biggest embarrassment the GOP has seen since David Duke, and that includes G.W. Bush.

  3. Don’t vote McCain. He will unnecessarily attack Iran, which will unite the Shia and the Sunni wings of the Islamic faith against us. We’re already going to war with the Sunni while the Shia stand mostly on the sidelines. Do we really want to pick a fight with the remainder of the Islamic world? For what purpose? Remember, in Iraq, the only time the Sunni and the Shia were working close together is when they were killing us in Najaf and Fallujah.

Because he is a war hero, McCain appears to be someone who knows how to protect America. This is an illusion. He is a Cold War warrior. But the cold war is over. This is a new fight. There are no rules, there are no boundaries to this fight like there were during the cold war. Mutually Assured Destruction will not work. He will attack Iran and this war will spin out of control.

Obama sucks. McCain is a nightmare.

  4. Slowpoke Rodriguez

McCain is a genius!!! He panders to hispanics who won’t vote for him and loses the conservative vote in the process! The war? As far as I’m concerned we won that the second Saddam’s neck went “SNAP”. I love the way conservatives equate getting out of Iraq with “losing” or “being defeated”. Almost the same way the lunatic left equates enforcing the law with racism.

  5. Mackie,

I agree that McCain would be a dangerous President and I agree he may put forward a plan to bomb locations in IRAN,

but, I respectively disagree that the Sunni Muslim population would perhaps take up arms to defend the Shia. A lot of Sunni’s see the Shia as heretics, even apostates (though I hold neither of those views to be true myself)

I’m not saying that you would not have a bunch of Angry Muslims in and out of the US, but on a point of cultural protocol, The Sunni’s won’t fight on behalf of injustice against the Shia, they would seek revenge for injustice against themselves.

Another thing we forget is the Persians in general have a deep love of their homeland. Not all people from Iran are Muslim Shia, there are Curds, Jews, Christians, Bahai (extremely persecuted), Zoroastrians (native monotheist faith) and of course secularist (like the Shah).

The Secularist and the Zoroastrians really hate the Shia, many of them reside in the United States, exiled after the overthrow of the Shah. Attacking Iran is a lot more dangerous that attacking Iraq (stupid as that was). The Persian population in the US is integrated into some of the highest positions of corporate power. You also can’t always determine their nationality by their skin color or accent. Some Persians are as White as me and speak with a perfect American accent, others look more Latino and if you are not familiar with the tones in Parsi (the way you actually pronounce Farsi) you would think they were from South America.

Many of the Persian American population are highly educated, artistically sophisticated and love America, but their love and reverence of their native Persia (IRAN) runs deeper. An Iraq style invasion of Iran would have unfathomable complications for the U.S. On the one hand, I can guarantee international sanctions against the USA across the board and the possible withdraw of the UN from US soil. After that our self assurance of not dieing in a suicide bombing on our way to the library will equal to that of the Israelis. Did you know that “Assassination” was invented in Persia? Currently the Iraqi’s have no means bringing vengeance against the US, the Persians do in FORCE.

Attacking Iran is absolute madness on our part, our security and freedom are forfeit if we do, I don’t think even McCain is that crazy, and if he his, it does not matter, I fear Israel will beat him to the punch. The implications globally of that happening are pretty grim.

    but anyway I digress…

  6. Elvis

we have two poor choices for president, that’s pretty horrible this time around. tancredo sucked too. We really didnt have any suitable candidates this time.

why does everyone call this resolution “anti-immigrant” when it’s targeted at illegal immigrants? seems as though this tag was put on by MWB and this blog not the authors of the resolution. I dont see one post on the other blog where anti-immigrant is the undertone of anything. I think everyone here is just sensationalizing things. Get it right people, the resolution is meant to prevent illegals not legal people.

    Elvis

“Elvis loves Jenny Craig, and so should anti-bvbl…they need it!”

  7. For Elvis, an in-depth explanation:

One good measure for whether the Immigration Resolution was anti-immigrant would be the way in which it’s proponents measure success or failure.

Sadly for this county and its reputation, for instance, Corey Stewart was on Fox “News” recently saying that the Resolution has been a success because there are less ESOL students in our schools. There is no positive link between ESOL and immigration status. If you ask Corey about it, his own children took ESOL because their mother speaks to them in Swedish. But Corey’s fan club, Help Save Manassas, told him over and over again that they want less Spanish speakers in their neighborhoods and supermarkets. Corey is now bragging that he came through for them. Somehow he doesn’t realize that what they wanted was anti-immigrant, because it dealt with suspicions and speculations about people based on their language proficiency. Somehow he doesn’t realize how awful that comment sounds to the general public, and how deeply he embarrasses Prince William County when he says such things. I think it’s because he’s spent too much time with Gospel Greg and Help Save Manassas. As I said, they are the only ones still talking to him.

Another indicator is Robert Duecaster, going ballistic after the April 29th policy change. He recommended rioting in the streets (remember the pitchforks and shovels remark?) because the law had been rendered impotent and the evidence????? He saw a Hispanic family moving into his neighborhood instead of out of his neighborhood.

You see, while skin color and language proficiency are an indicators as to how long someone has been in this country, there is nothing scientific about the conclusions one has to jump to in order to make a judgment about a person’s status. Immigration status is a adjustable and invisible quality, like the currency of your subscription to LIFE magazine. You just can’t tell by looking.

So while declaring that less students who need extra English tutoring is a victory, or that having a Hispanic family move in down the street is a defeat, is NOT a good measure for whether the Immigration Resolution is “working,” it DOES provide an insight into the sentiments of those who advocated for it.

  8. WHWN:

while skin color and language proficiency are an indicators as to how long someone has been in this country

Not really. You don’t need english in many parts of the country. Some people are born and raised here speaking mostly spanish. My uncle has been here more than 40 years and barely speaks english. Skin color means nothing. Hispanics have been here since the founding. If everyone in manassas, had to move to miami and find work, hahaha, they would be the ones called immigrants.

  9. Does anyone know what’s wrong with Mr. Duecaster’s voice? I mean that seriously….does he have a vocal problem or does he just get so emotional at Citizen’s Time that he has trouble speaking? (Not making fun of either of those conditions, BTW. Just wondering.)

  10. BTW, I find his last name symbolic somehow….an ironic kind of pun or something….

  11. junkyard dog

Elvis, put the bottle down. Shall I try to find you a sponsor for your little problem. This is way too early in the morning for you to start the tippling.

To whoever called him Elvis the Pelvis yesterday…correction: Elvis the elbow bender.

  12. Madam Mofo

    Kgotthardt you mean like Due-plicitous?

  13. LOL! Well that would be one.

I was thinking of DUE CASTER, as in, he wants to cast his idea of what is due upon us….like an evil magician….

  14. Mackie, point taken. Prejudice is based on indicators. It isn’t easy to avoid making assumptions based on skin color and language proficiency. Few I think would deny having done so. There is after all a statistical probability at work, since so many of our recent immigrants are from Asia, Africa and Latin America.

This probability, however, is not sufficient to become the “whereas” statement of an Imigration Resolution, not does it justifty any sort of institutionalized prejudice, and I think that is your point.

It is a shameful fact that the authors of our Immigration Resolution used skin color to judge whether the hospitals were crowded with “illegal aliens” or just a bunch of people who could’nt afford health insurance (of which there are many).

This is etched in documents that none of us can deny. And it is echoed by our leaders going on national television, as Corey Stewart did yesterday, to brag that he has helped rid the county of people who might be illegal. This is a stain on our county’s reputation that we will be coping with for generations.

A handful of outsiders … Letiecq, Stirrup, Hethmon, Duecaster and Stewart … have given this county a reputation for ignorance and intolerance. For long time residents this is difficult to bear.

There has to be something we can do to reverse this unfair characterization.

  15. “institutionalized prejudice”

WHWN, yes…that is EXACTLY what we have. THAT should be unconstitutional.

  16. Moon-howler

Here were Corey’s words on national TV yesterday. I believe I audibly groaned and then hung my head in shame:

“The numbers of students who don’t speak English in our school system has been decreasing”

Someone really needs to give him another line to spout when he speaks publically.

  17. Censored bybvbl

KG, lol, I’d envisioned another spelling of “due”.

  18. Censored bybvbl

Does anyone know if the BOCS can rein in Corey? I mean can he be made to say that he’s merely speaking for himself and not the BOCS or the residents of the county?

  19. TWINAD

    Censored,

You are a scream! I’m dying right now.

  20. LMAO! Love it! Would make a great political cartoon.

  21. “Does anyone know if the BOCS can rein in Corey? I mean can he be made to say that he’s merely speaking for himself and not the BOCS or the residents of the county?”

Write to your county supervisor. I think I will. Corey is an embarassment to all of us.

  22. Madam Mofo

    Let’s see….you mean DOO-caster?

Censored, I was asleep on that one. How funny.

Yup, he sure slung a bunch of doo on this one.

  23. Red Dawn

What else do expect with the 800lb gorilla in a room…sorry couldn’t resist 😉

  24. NotGregLetiecq

“The numbers of students who don’t speak English in our school system has been decreasing” — Corey Stewart, on national TV

That is so incredibly embarrassing. I think the Board should pass a new Resolution that says Corey Stewart does not speak for the county or the county government. He has demonstrated a greater interest in representing the interests of F.A.I.R. and a similar commitment to lies, spin, and obfuscation.

Either he should quite the BOCS and join F.A.I.R., or he should shut the hell up.

  25. Slowpoke Rodriguez

Make no mistake, Corey represents the vast majority of citizens of this county, just not the lunatic left fringe. Fortunately, he doesn’t need their votes. He’s got all the support he needs.

  26. Bring it On

The tide is turning so hold on.

  27. “The tide is turning so hold on.”

Or the sane people can all move out and leave the rest of the morons to just kill one another.

  28. Madam Mofo

Yea I saw the support he had on that film where he turned red in the face and kept drinking water. Yup Yup Yup. Slowpoke Rodriguez, keep telling yourself that. It will save his opponent next election cycle some money.

I actually laughed when I saw him trying to spin that he had gotten what he wanted all along.

He is becoming more and more marginal.

  29. Slowpoke,

The majority of people turned to Corey and the resolution because they were desperate over the quality of life issues and felt they had no other choice…or at least I hope that’s the case.

  30. Red Dawn

    Mackie,

I think that is a very good explanation as I and many had fallen into that category and saw it all happened so fast ( to jump on a bandwagon)…that is when I started to question…”things being too EASY”

  31. Red Dawn

Should add ripe for the picking and here we are right back where we started

  32. es_la_ley

    kgotthardt, 12. July 2008, 11:44

Does anyone know what’s wrong with Mr. Duecaster’s voice? I mean that seriously….does he have a vocal problem or does he just get so emotional at Citizen’s Time that he has trouble speaking? (Not making fun of either of those conditions, BTW. Just wondering.)

Glad to see you’re not making fun. 🙂 I heard him speak at Citizen’s Time several months ago. I work with a dude that sounds similar…his voice sounds very nervous even in calm, ‘no pressure’ situations. It’s just a ‘thing’, and not that uncommon.

Similarly, I have a severe stammer,at times. My speech is worse when I’m calm though.

  33. Red Dawn

    es_la_ley,

“It’s just a ‘thing’, and not that uncommon.”

Also, it is wild that someone can change like this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzl0O8rsgAM

  34. Red Dawn,

Ah, now Corey has been caught rolling in the mud with an ear-to-ear grin on his piggy face and we can see the little piglet he was all this time hiding beneath his starched white shirt! Oink! Oink!

We must revoke his starched white shirt.

Woe is us that we forgot the sage advice of the Beatles:

Have you see the little piggies
    crawling in the dirt
And for all the little piggies
    Life is getting worse
    Always having dirt
    to play around in

Have you see the bigger piggies
    In their starched white shirts
You will find the bigger piggies
    Stirring up the dirt
    Always have clean shirts
    to play around in

In their sties with all their backing
They don’t care what goes on around
In their eyes there’s something lacking
What they need’s a darn good whacking

    Everywhere there’s lots of piggies
    Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
    With their piggy wives
    Clutching forks and knives
    to eat their bacon

    Mackie,

Do you think PWC was caught in the web? oink~

  36. Juturna

I have watched and rewatched Mr. Stewart and canna find one simple altruistic act or statement that would allow me to view him favorably. He was elected based on his anti illegal immigraion signs and his party. Those that I know that voted for him knew nothing about him and based their decisions on those two factors.

Local elections must take on a greater importance and greater depth. Frankly, party affiliation at the local level is immaterial. (IMHO)

  37. Red Dawn,

In our fear we imagined ourselves caught like animals on a farm with no way out. Then there arose a few piglets from among us who promised us the answers and hope. Oink! Oink! The piggies pointed the way with their hooves and we marched into the mud while they kept their starched white shirts clean. And every time they couldn’t resist and dived into the mud and rolled around in it, we bought them a new starched white shirt until we couldn’t afford any more…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksnwIUyspps

But now we’re waking up. No more starched white shirts for the little piggies…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsPZsPSa_fw

  38. “Similarly, I have a severe stammer,at times. My speech is worse when I’m calm though.”

Yeah, I have this thing that I forget words. I do it when I’m nervous, tired, distracted or for other reasons I cannot figure out. I hate that! That’s one reason I would never make fun of anyone for their speech. Public speaking in particular is a bear!

  39. Red Dawn

    Mackie,

Red Dawn was a good movie and I would say the MOST POWERFUL tool is INFORMATION.

Okay, can’t resist: Wolverines!!! LOL 🙂

  40. Yes, the delivery of information is key.

    Wolverines!!!

  41. Madam Mofo

    Kgottardt,

‘Tis a shame that Mr. Duecaster doesn’t possess your kindness of heart. He certainly doesn’t mind poking fun at perfectly innocent people.

  42. you wish

    KG –

Please stop. Seriously. Your ass is showing continually. For some one who claims to be “disabled”, you quickly pick on somebody for their voice (even though you say you aren’t making fun of him) and then you make a comment about “or the sane people can all move out and leave the rest of the morons to just kill one another.”

I hope you are the first to leave the county – your insanity is contagious and it’s starting to show that you are quite unstable. OR better yet – move to Mexico, El Salvador or Guatemala since you love it so much –

Can you make it through ONE day without making fun of others? Doubt it. Good role model for your kids.

  43. Tell tale signs that our lovely model citizens KGothardt, Alanna, Elena, and the gang have vanquished “you wish” and the Hate Bunnies include:

    1) Hate Bunnies are reduced to repeating the same debunked arguments over and over again punctuated by adolescent personal attacks.

    2) The “Rule of Mob” Resolution has been dismantled, and Gospel Greg and his clones have been reduced to Red Circle Litter Pick-up Saturdays and pretending their humiliating defeat is a happy grinning victory.

    3) Public opinion has turned against Chairman Stewart, who is now associated with Help Save Manassas nearly as directly as Gospel Greg himself.

    4) Their sorry attack on Chief Deane was so piteously short-sighted that it anyone who has lived in this community more than 5 years (unlike most of the HSM anti-immigrant bunch) didn’t bother to respond, and those who did completely destroyed Chairman Stewart in front of all his colleagues and on TV. Yet the political suicide of this attack is still being discussed with shock and amusement, and seen as a turning point in the fall of the Anti-Immigrant Lobby and the rise of the silent majority.

    5) The old blog has almost no traffic, and is no longer a source of “information”; only a spectacle by which to monitor the tragic spiral into madness of a racist watching helplessly as two non-racists duel for the White House.

    6) The new blog is the talk of the town, and the above-mentioned ladies are the darlings of the county

    7) Hate Bunnies like you wish keep coming back here to vent their frustrations, but only succeed in making mini-spectacles of themselves, periodically reminding us all how frustrated they are with 1 thru 6.

  44. Red Dawn

    I like # 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. you wish

Actually, WHWN, when I was “challenged” to post a solution, which I did, there was no response from the “lovely ladies of this blog”. I think it’s funny that you say this blog is so “popular”, when the only ones who post are regulars and there is no new blood. The resolution is working, whether you like it or not, and others around the country are taking notice.

It’s those of you that continue to defend rapists, child molesters, tax evaders and murders that should be ashamed. What “we” want is for the law to be enforced, period. Regardless of the country of origin. I know that you don’t agree with that, because you have posted several times about the fact that laws are of no matter.

And what have you contributed to positively other than running people off the board so you can continue to post your absurdities?

  46. you wish

“The new blog is the talk of the town, and the above-mentioned ladies are the darlings of the county”

And if that’s true, then PWC is screwed big time.

  47. Red Dawn

    Speaking of KGothardt,

I was PROUD to give her a hug around the neck when I finally had the chance to meet her the other night. She takes the beating and if it is not her, it is Alanna and Elena..F cowards!!!!

I welcome them ( and on or 2 may have grown up here) to my hometown.

  48. you wish

    RD,

Good for you. Spend some more time with her. I’m glad that you where proud to give her a hug – could you manage to fit your arms around her?
