Since the “crackdown” on illegal immigration began a year ago, our respected and beloved Chief Charlie Deane has been placed on the frontline of an ugly political battle. He is a good soldier and has tried to carry out this ill-conceived order with as much integrity and intelligence as possible. Without Chief Deane at the helm of the police department, I’m certain that the morale of the department would have slumped during the turmoil and the county would have experienced real disorder. I have been very grateful to him for not quitting the job even when he was attacked by Chairman Corey Stewart and nativist blogger Greg Letiecq for the stupid charge of committing “treason” for attending an information session about the immigration policy organized by the Mexican consulate. He tried his best to warn the Board just before the first vote on the Immigration Resolution on July 10th that the Resolution would lead to “unintended consequences.” In his brief speech, he pretty much predicted what’s happened to our county in the past year since Corey Stewart and John Stirrup decided to use illegal immigration to get themselves reelected.

Kristen Mack has written an extensive profile of Chief Deane published on the front page of the Washington Post Metro section today. It’s full of good personal details about the Chief, but there are enormous holes in the story. It fails to address the crux of the matter. Chief Deane is in the “uneasy position” that he is in because of Stewart’s leadership tactics: grandstanding, lying, and bullying. The Chairman, bless his heart, has no real regard for the wisdom and expertise of professional public servants in the government such as Chief Deane or County Executive Craig Gerhart. As long as Stewart engages in governing according to the Rovean principle of a “permanent campaign,” many good people in our government will be in “uneasy positions” and will consider leaving. We must find a way of containing the damage done by Stewart’s failure in leadership so that great public servants like Chief Deane can thrive in his job instead of being stymied by having to spend their time ducking and dodging Corey’s crap and Greg’s army.

Anti is becoming the “big dog” blog attracting OTHERS. People love to attack sucessful and solid groups frantically chipping away. Congrats to Alanna & Elena on your sucess.

Rod we’ve got your back and prepared for the invasion

Mackie(who really likes PWCPD) you still make me think but glad to hear you like our PD.

  2. Moon-howler

    Mackie,

Moon-Howler, you are doing your best to falsely portray me as a radical outsider. I may be passionate (and I am not ashamed to admit as much like most Americans who view emotion as a form of weakness) but I am not a radical outsider.

Actually you don’t need my help. You are doing a fine job of portraying yourself as a radical outsider. While the rest of us have been busy supporting our local police for weeks, you have been bashing them. If you didn’t mean to include PWCPD, then you should have made that abundantly clear, especially in light of the politics going down.

The irony of sending me “Hard Rain is Going to Fall” made me smile. As to where have I been the past few years, out, as the expression goes, ‘where the rubber meets the road.’ Having been there, I come away very much a moderate, capable of seeing both sides of most questions.

Mackie, actually I am not your enemy. I like what you say on many topics, just not this one (or a certain past president). I am surprised you saw me as your nemesis. I think it is fair to say I am just not a follower.

  3. Moon-howler

    Lucky Duck,

Actually I had meant to say doctor, lawyer and an Indian chief, but it was very late when I posted. I am sure your mother is proud of you regardless of what your profession really is. You are kind, both informed and informative, and appear to have the patience of Job. Those are rare qualities these days.

  4. Lucky Duck,

Mackie, If you remember correctly on Tuesday on a different thread, I inquired of some answers from you (nothing personal like yours to me) yet you failed to answer even one of them

I think I must have missed your post Lucky. You can repost the questions if you’d like.

Moon-howler and Rodger are obviously self absorbed with Latique style logic . Frankly arguing with Latique look-a-likes is a waste of time. You should be ashamed making up stories to fit your agenda and stop attacking a defenseless puppy. Rodger’s goofy allegations are the biggest stretch and you really need to slow down and perhaps talk to a professional. Why didn’t you post pictures of at least the 5 other dogs’ owners? And where on earth does someone “borrow” a dog?

The Recreation Center is at Bready Park. Moon-howler’s assertion that “Dogs, especially large dogs, don’t belong at the polls” is as goofy as Rodger’s allegation.

Yes, you’re right. I must conform.

I sent the video link because some of the things you said reminded of things they used to say to marginalize the Vietnam war protesters. I just saw that movie, Born on the Fourth of July, again about 2 days ago. It’s like deja vu with what we’re currently doing.

Great movie, Mackie. Oliver Stone, like many of his generation, doesn’t say things. He bashes people over the head with his ideas, and continues to do so even after you admit he has sold you on the idea. Nothing subtle about that guy.

Actually, even though I think it is a terrific film, it depresses me horribly. But then again, look at what you know about me and I am sure that makes perfect sense to you.

The Dylan music was fun. In the true spirit of things: http://youtube.com/watch?v=lCfiOheT07w

  12. Moon-howler

Mackie, one more thing, I don’t think you should necessarily conform. How about chosing a different thread to trumpet your cause. Truthfully, many people here have gone to bat for PWCPD. You are making me feel like for every 2 feet I get up the hill, I am sliding back one.

You are smart enough and well-educated enough to understand exactly what I am saying without me hitting you over the head with it. Do a little research on an ex-state cop named Buck Carter. Then lets talk about it on another thread, but not one that is a tribute to Chief Deane.

  13. Aubrey Stokes

Rodger, you can continue to mischaracterize all you want to, but when you resort to outright lies I have to speak up.
You are seriously hurting your credibility when you resort to childish statements and outright fabrications.

The lies that you have spouted were intended to attack my integrity. You have taken an innocent situation and mischaracterized it, lied about it, and only to further your own inteests. Now you want to play the martyr.
You were the one who started speaking of libel. If you feel that what you have done approaches libel, then I suggest you consult with an attorney.

You have told people on this blog that I had a dog at the polling place in order to dissuade minorities from voting. Untrue. You fail to mention how many people of every walk of life came up to talk to me and pet the dog.

You told people I was at the main entrance of the polling place with the dog. Untrue. Your own picture corroborates that. I was at least 40 feet away from the entrance. You can plainly see that I am standing at at tent, at the side of the building.

You have told people on this blog that I “rented” the dog and do not own the dog.
I really don’t see how anyone with any integrity whatsoever could fabricate something like that. You walk by my house at least twice a week, and you see me outside with the dog!!!!!!!!

You were instructed not to have any contact with me for one year, at the end of the trial when you received your deferral. You upheld your probation, so the charges were dismissed. I’m beginning to miss that year.

Jorge Pollo, it’s just that “goofy” is such a goofy word…sounds like something from my mother’s generation and she’s in her eighties. I don’t think many people use it anymore.

  15. If embarisingly anonymous “ghouls” from Herndon are going to dwell on drudging up a single comment I made on a nearily fourth month old buried thread, then we might as well open the Blog Graveyard doors and resurect the previously dead story to clairify some things… about…THE DOG OF DOOM!!!!!

    http://www.antibvbl.net/index.php/2008/05/06/election-results/#comments

Seriously, I think HSH is mostly angry because A.S. and P.J. were indeed there with a large dog, but they were “Off Duty” as HSH officials, and they object the HSH would be protrait on an obscure posting as officially condoning this type of activity.

Yes it’s true, other people had dogs there, I even mentioned later in the old thread, BUT the particular persons, with a particular “Social Agenda” had a particularly large dog, at a particularly controversial election and to me that raises a red flag, call me paranoid or what you will, but I think we all can agree that Pets have no place around polling places.

ANON, around here “Perception is Reality” can be a double edged sword. You percieve all Illegal Immigrants to be genetically disposed to be criminals because of your perception of how they look and act, yet when you look and act suspiciously youself, you get angry when we draw conclusions.

When you go on the Media as Phil and Aub did on Lou Dobbs, and you state your position, unless you publically recant, you are marked, and there is never a time when you can go “Off Duty”. If you wanted a private life, if you wanted respect, then you should have stayed away from the media circus. NOW you want to change the perception of HSH, you want to lagitimize. Attempting to hide the past will not help you, it will only hurt you, but if you come foward here out of the shadows and say your mission has changed to uniting Herndon as opposed to marginalizing people in it, then you persue that cause, your actions will erase the past.

My firends here can testify that I made an effort to make sure that HSM and HSH were not grouped into the same catagory, but then you pull this stunt, and in your efforts to erase the past, you have only brought it more into memory.

I would advise you to drop this issue, we are all smart people here, we can make our own judgements as to what really was going down during the 2008 elections. If you continue to try and poison the blog or change the history, you will only drudge up more and more forgotten crap from the Sewer, and believe me, I’ve held back some of the most disgusting things HSH was overtly and inadvertly involved in during the days of ignorance.

I would encourage you to drop the past, but to join us in the discussion. People here may very well want to know the ways HSH works in the community and what their simularitys and diffrences are to HSM.

    Lets stop bickering and talk!

Give me one good reason to take a great dane to the polls. I wasn’t there, didn’t see it but there are a lot of folks around who sound like you and I can just see you in my mind’s eye, strutting around with some large dog.

Actually there was a cartoon floating around the blogs several months ago…hmmmm….it was incredibly tasteless about dog food. I just wonder if this was the same concept. As they say, perception is reality, now isn’t it?

I have made up no stories about you. You apparently mistake me for someone who knows you. I do not. My comments were generic.

  17. Moon-howler

Rod, actually I am not even clear what your ‘sins’ are supposed to be. It just all sounds like a person on a mission. Why does this not surprise me?

  18. Anon

    Moon-howler,

“Give me one good reason to take a great dane to the polls” …. Its called walking your dog (Dane) at the park and there is no restrictions to walk your dog as long it is on a leash. The dog is dearly loved by many of Herndon’s residents and many folks enjoy his affection. Herndon is well known for their love of dogs. Abusing a dog to make a political statement is the silliest stunt I have ever seen. You can’t be that angry can you?

Folks in Herndon do not want illegal aliens seeking work on town sidewalks, storefronts, or parking lots. It is a quality of life issue. I did not see Rodger’s excitement when weapon wielding anarchists tried to intimidate old ladies at the “Official” Worker Center.

  19. Censored bybvbl

I’ve never seen a dog at my polling place. Many people are afraid of dogs (which may be the point). My mother’s best friend and her six children were…scared to the point that the friend ,with much angst, bought a beagle to try to get the kids over their fear. I don’t think a single one of those children as adults owns a dog. I never felt uneasy around dogs until I had to separate my border collie from a doberman that someone allowed loose. My dog was on our property. I see absolutely no reason for a dog to be at the polls. Vote, go home, get your dog, and then go for a walk.

  20. I’ve told a few people face to face, so i have no problem.

In the summer of 2005 when we were having the hotest of the debates about whether or not to establish an Official Herndon Worker center, Help Save Herndon had put in invitation ticker on their website asking if people would attend the rally and support their cause. You could also leave a brief comment which was my undoing.

I was not really used to how hate bunnies worked and there were some really racist comments being posted, so I clicked “Yes”, made up a name called “Sic Semper Tyranis” and said I would attend and left a fairly nasty comment about HSH and their friends being nothing but “Carpetbaggers” and outsiders, then I added one fatal line…

“Virginia: sending carpetbaggers packing in under six minutes…
…or packing carpetbaggers six feet under”

The next morning I woke up and opened up the HSH website and learned why people say their Blood literally runs cold when shocked. There was a huge banner on the website saying that HSH had recieved a direct death threat and that the FBI and local athuroties had been notified. My comment was quoted under it. After some thought, I called the Herndon Police and turned myself in. They had not even been notified yet, but they sent an officer over to my house. I showed the officer what i wrote and told him, I was angry and did not mean to threaten anyone. He was not sure what exactly to book me under, but put me under general arrest, no cuffs or anything, he did not even take me in, he said they would call me later.

I called my parents next and told them what I did, and my father suggested i should post an appology if I could. the ticker was still up, so I posted an appology and saw that it went thru and got posted, but shortly after that the ticker disappeared.

Eventually a Fairfax county police officer contacted me and I told him my story. I asked if he would convey my appologies to the people named in the comment, which he attempted to do, but they told him they wanted to press charges. So I got a lawyer and we went to court.

After the hearing the judge siad he suspected I had the intent to threaten HSH, but I did not have any intent to cause harm, so the sentence was dropped and I had to not contact any HSH members or other named parties in anyway for one year. (that expired without incident in 2006 so I have no conviction)

They could not issue a restraining order because HSH would not provide a list of their membership. Many of their members went to chat groups under Anynomous indetitys to spread their hateful rhetoric, only betraying their true selves with slips in information so I was able to get back on the town chatboard and hold discussions with people who may have been HSH members, but due to their hidden identy, there was no way to say I breached my judicial agreement without them comming foward.

After the trial, someone with an AP ticker liscense posted an inacurate blurb about my trial on a blog feed wire, so when I type my real name into google, even today I still find the blurb popping up on many sites. There was also a brief article in the Herndon Times, but the reporters never bothered to contact me for my side of the story.

I admit that I was a little foolhardy in what I wrote, but HSH milked the event to the utmost so they could ruin my reputition in my home town, I was one of the most vocal critiques agaisnt them and thae worked very hard to silence me. Even now they are trying to manipulate the truth to try and marginalize and humiliate me here, but I have one thing going for me, I’m honest. No doubt you will soon see some fireworks after this post but as G-d is my witness, I testify that I have told you the truth.

Beware of HSH and HSM, for if they can, they will try to ruin your life.

  21. I did not see Rodger’s excitement when weapon wielding anarchists tried to intimidate old ladies at the “Official” Worker Center.
    ======================================================================

And they like to lay some lies on pretty thick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Aubrey Stokes,

I saw Rod’s picture of the dog. That dog is a lethal weapon.

If I had a child and I was bringing him/her to the polls, I would never want to see a massive dog like that around…and certainly not when I know it’s handler is a devoted member of nativist organization like HSH.

It is hard enough getting people to come out and vote Aubrey. Responsible citizens try to encourage participation in the democratic process. Responsible citizens do not bring to the polling sites, massive lethal animals that could potentially slip free and maul any one of us.

It’s impossible for anyone to know how well trained that massive lethal animal was. Under those circumstances and until one knows otherwise, it is safest to assume that the lethal animal had no training. And no matter how well trained this lethal animal may be, it is still an animal, with a mind of its own, and with primitive instincts.

Considering the fact that firearms are not permitted at polling places, peaceful voters would have nothing to defend themselves with should this lethal animal decide to attack them.

All of these fears are coursing through the minds of reasonable people when they are confronted by such a massive lethal animal.

    You know this.

Well precisely. Here in Herndon we do things a little differently and dogs are even invited to the local bakery. Slow down and read the posts. The dog is in the park where the recreation center is located along the WO&D trail.

Using your advice, Rodger should have voted, gone home and not returned since he was so bothered by a dog. He should have called the police (who were there) and levy his accusations. My guess is that they would have asked him to leave since he was stalking people with his camera and creating conspiracy theories.

  24. Anon,

My guess is that they would have asked him to leave since he was stalking people with his camera

Evil fears the light of publicity huh?

  25. Casual Observer

Our very own Delegate Bob Marshall likes to show up at our precinct with his camera and its huge telescopic lens. First time I noticed it was Presidential Election Day, 2004. We had been warned at a Democratic precinct meeting just before the election that Republicans were planning to show up at the polls with cameras, ostensibly to intimidate voters (remember, there were many reports of voter intimidation across the country that year). Still, I was shocked to see Marshall show up wearing a camera around his neck. He hung around for a bit, walking up and down the line (which was long) of voters waiting to enter the polling place. My blood boiled the entire time, but what he did was legal. Was it ethical? Not in my book.

I have little tolerance for anybody who attempts to intimidate voters, because the intent is to keep them from voting at all.

Great Danes on short leashes…elected officials carrying cameras w/ telescopic lenses…there’s not place for them at the polls, IMHO.

It amazes me that there are strict rules about where one is allowed to hand out campaign literature outside a polling place (ie., you have to be so many feet away from the entrance — and Marshall made sure our Dem booth was set up the required distance away), yet dogs and cameras are fine.

Don’t even get me started on the woman from the PWC Republican Party who was working INSIDE the polling precinct, constantly checking the voter rolls (and phoning in who had voted) into party headquarters, and the hovering behind the precinct volunteers every single time they readied a voting machine for the next voter in line. Obnoxious doesn’t even begin to describe her behavior. Again, she had a legal right to do what she was doing, but clearly she was trying to rattle the precinct workers who, and I want to emphasize this, were volunteers.

Obviously, this is an issue for me. 🙂

  26. Lucky Duck

Mackie’s right, someone sees a dog that big and who knows what it would do. I have a dog, I like my dog better than some people I know and he’s small, very kid friendly and gentle. But I still take caution when he’s around non family members because, well, you just never know.

A dog has no place at a polling place.

  27. Anon

Your opinion and that is what it is…..an opinion. More folks found him less threating than a crazy guy chasing people with cameras and making up stories. Fact is no one cares about the opinion of a few far left nuts who make up stories to fit their agenda.

You cannot regulate from behind your keyboard. The polls had rules and none were broken. Get over it already ~

Herndon is a dog town where we all treat our “puppies” as children and they do usually accompany us to the WO&D trail, Starbucks, or Home Depot.

    –and–

The dog is dearly loved by many of Herndon’s residents and many folks enjoy his affection. Herndon is well known for their love of dogs.

Here in Herndon we do things a little differently and dogs are even invited to the local bakery.

Anyone else find these quotes amusing? 🙂 Just wondering if this Herndon Dog Love been codified in any city proclamations. I don’t think I’d care to encounter anyone’s dog at Starbucks or my local bakery, but maybe that’s just me. It doesn’t surprise me to see dogs at PetSmart, but Home Depot?? Why the heck would you bring your dog to Home Depot? And don’t they ever try to chase the birds that fly around inside?

If my kid, who was bitten by a neighbor’s dog when she was very young, encountered a freaking Great Dane inside the local bakery, well, one of them would have to leave — and it wouldn’t be my kid!

  31. aubrey stokes,

Considering the fact that you advocate bringing massive lethal animals to confront peaceful law-abiding voters, your hypocrisy is truly staggering.

The fact that you would try to bring charges over Rod’s use of metaphor is truly alarming and an abuse of our justice system. Real Americans believe in free speech as protected in the first amendment. Are you a Real American?

Anon, I read the post. Dogs belong at parks (usually, and on leash) and if the Health Department allows and the bakery has no objections, I guess you could bring your dog there. But not to the polls. Nothing should be done to intimidate legitimate voters from voting. If you don’t see this tactic of bringing a large dog to the polls as intimidating and reminiscent of the Civil Rights era, you’re more ignorant – or arrogant -than an adult should be.

  36. Casual Observer

Incidentally, the dog that bit my daughter was still a puppy. It was his second bite on public record, and he was euthanized.

    Puppies are still dogs.

  37. “So, in effect, you did violate the judges order.
You knew (your words) who you were interacting with on the chat groups during the year the jusdge told you to have no contact.”

No, I had my suspusion, but I could never be 100% certian, so I continued to engage nameless and faceless people online, I was not mandated to talk to no one.

And as to the voting incedent I told what I saw with my own eyes and suspected based on evidence, I did not flat out fabricate anything. I did consult some people at the scene who were also concerned, but seeing as how no one was technically being denied their right to vote, that they could get past your Animal, we decided to not notify the police. Basically Aubrey, I don’t like you, I know you have disturbed conceptions about how law and order should be handled, you posted plenty in the Herndon Observer. I don’t trust your character so I suspected, and now continue to suspect that you did go to the poll with the intent to intimidate voters as you are attempting to intimidate me now. I have not tried to soil your character because your character is already soiled by your involvement with the anti-immigration debate. Your are a public figure and cannot expect to be shielded from descent.

Break Down— I precieved you to be attempting to intimidate voters by use of a leashed lethal Animal, but as you were failing in the act, I did not feel in nessicary to report to the police, though I consulted Daryl Smith on the matter. I then decided to report what I saw on this blog. As many others report what they see happening on the RestonWeb and others on BVBL. You are an oppertunist who is trying everything to ruin my image. Did I ever write a letter about it to the editor of the Herndon Observer, Did I go to Fox5? NO, I went to a blog where I had friends and told them my thoughts on the matter. Now you are saying that I had a plot to souly come here is use the Blog to defame you in Public?!?! How many people even read antibvbl in Herndon?

Your actions that day were questionable and I have witnessess that will testify to that in court I have photographic evidence, if you feel you want to spend the time and the money to challenge my observation posted on a local interest privatly run blog in a court of law that is your right, I will say no more on the matter and will await your summons with my attourney. I advise you to be reasonable and let the issue drop, but I will stand by my constitutional right to free speech.

    Aubrey,
I saw the dog on election day and it’s the biggest dog I’d ever seen. I love dogs, but I was truly frightened of it. I know that I’m not the only one because I was part of a small group of people chatting in the parking lot after we cast our votes talking about the scary dog and how inappropriate its presence was. I also noticed that the poor dog looked agitated. I don’t really know you or Rodger, but I really think you need to stop defending your actions in regard to this dog.

  40. Anon

    let’s not go there Mackie…..

As for Rodger Perry it seems clear you continue to make this personal issue. Maybe when you buy property in the town (or anywhere else) you will see the effect that illegal aliens have on your investment both directly and indirectly. Your perception is way off and I suspect many others would agree. Well maybe not on this site 🙂

Even the Fairfax County School Superintendent and COO Susan Quinn pointed the finger at illegal aliens for the sudden student increase of 2,500. This increased cost is in the tens of millions to FFX Co. tax payers. Sanctuary policies by Gerry Connolly will drive FFX to look like PWC. He now is troubled because his own administration has tarred him with this issue while asking the Superintendent to cut costs to cover his hundreds of million in deficits.

You might want to rethink your behavior. It is not acceptable here. If you don’t like how things are run here, then perhaps you need to go to other blogs.

    Anon,
Not because of any disagreement. First this person posted about ‘exterminating members of HSM’, then came on with some VIVA LA RAZA non-sense. The person isn’t someone even interested in having a discussion, whoever they are, they are just a trouble maker.

Guess Moon-howler got to it first. Oh well.

  49. I will interject this once to make one retraction. I honestly did not know that Aubrey Stokes lived at the property where the dog was kept.

Aubrey Stokes is indeed the owner of the Great Dane, I was mistaken, he did not rent or borrow the animal.
