Corey demonstrates, with no regrets, what kind of politican he has become. Having no qualms about being labeled a bully, he says:
“I’m hard-charging. I don’t give ground. Once I set a course, I don’t fall back and I move ahead. You can call that bullying, but I call it effective leadership,” Stewart says.
Seriously, as the elected Chairman of a huge county in the Metro Region, you have no problem being recognized as a bully?
Is this what our democracy has been reduced to, bullying tactics, instead of thoughtful intelligent governance? I wonder how his fellow supervisors feel, being on the receiving end of a man bragging about pushing them around to meet his political needs? I feel especially angry right now because here I was, trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, pumping him up for his Rural Crescent vote, hoping he was refocusing on other pressing matters in the county, but I was wrong…..AGAIN.
I wonder, how exactly, as a local politician, will Corey “begin pushing for measures that make it easier for immigrants to come to the United States without breaking the law.” Does this mean he will be spending even more time on Capitol Hill, focusing on immigration, instead of the myriad of serious issues facing our County? I for one am tired of being used as his stepping stone to bigger and better political offices.
I also noticed that an arm of FAIR, Center for Immigration Studies, is there to support Corey in his stance on illegal immigration, oh wait, that’s right, I mean immigration. What an interesting contradiction, the people who provided most of the language template for our original immigration resolution, also want to cease ALL immigration, legal and otherwise while Corey supposedly wants to make legal immigration easier. Poor Corey, he doesn’t even know how he has been duped by them.
But supporters say Stewart is showing that local governments can do something about the issue.
“What Prince William County is doing is clearly registering at the national level,” says Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, a think tank promoting restrictions on illegal immigration. “You need to have somebody driving the bus, you need to have somebody leading on this issue, and that’s the role he’s playing. You have to have a catalyst.”
WHATEVER 🙂

Elena,
Sorry , I was being a SMART ASS off the shoot( it happens anytime I see his name. He has LOST ALL credibility with me) with you headline an then READ…..
I take it like this, be good at something=Corey, so let’s applaud him for doing so.
“I’m hard-charging. I don’t give ground. Once I set a course, I don’t fall back and I move ahead. You can call that bullying, but I call it effective leadership,” Stewart says.
I will applaud Corey for nothing. He is proud of being a bully. The ends justify the means, apparently. There are some very insidious remarks in this article, from the contents of the original resolution, to Mark Krekorian’s remark, “You need to have somebody driving the bus, you need to have somebody leading on this issue, and that’s the role he’s playing. You have to have a catalyst.”
This article really gets to the heart of the matter. The more Corey talks, the more Corey reveals about his Machiavelian plans for Prince William Co. and his own political ambitions.
Corey Stewart may have bullied has fellow Supervisors, but what he did to this county, its future, and the people he was supposed to represent is more aptly categorized as a betrayal. Corey Stewart has put the interests of the Anti-Immigrant Lobby above the interests of the people of Prince William County.
If it’s really true that Robert “The Disaster” Duecaster and the rest of the Help Save Manassas high council was too smart and too honorable to sign off on Gospel Greg’s “attack Chief Deane” treachery, why was Corey Stewart foolish and dishonorable enough to slurp up and regurgitate Greg’s vile hate campaign as if it were his own?
Again, “bully” is not the right word. But would be right? Were Richard Nixon, Joseph McCarthy, and Dick Cheney bullies, or just shameless liars that unfortunately fooled a lot of people?
On the flip-side:
Is this what our country has been reduced to, a bunch of whining individuals who can’t accept our approved laws, and think that the will of the minority should override the will of the majority?
(Have at it! I’m leaving for work now.)
Not much in that article surprised me – just that Stewart was stupid enough to publically state what he did. Oops. That doesn’t surprise me either. Stewart’s ambition – regardless of how it effects the county – has been pretty transparent.
One thing that did surprise was that PWC even considered this:
Does this county come off looking like its comprised of idiots by proposing something so stupid!! Did we waste tax dollars considering anything so ridiculuous – for even one minute?
Oops..an errant “u” and a dropped “me”.
Corey’s statements are quite alarming. His position exists to serve us. He derives all authority from us. It is a borrowed authority. He has no inherent right to his authority. The word bully should never be in his vocabulary and is a red flag as to his true attitude towards those who politically disagree with him.
Here are two illuminating videos of another person like Corey Stewart who abused his authority and used the police of his town as if they were his personal paid muscle. He is councilman Ted Penn. He used the police to assault and brutalize a political opponent, David Snyder. David Snyder was also trying to disband the small town’s police force and paid the price:

Well, THAT was disturbing to watch.
What was the name of the guy that Corey had kicked out of citizens time?
Elena,
Mr.Crone, and he passed away a few months ago.
SA, There is no proof that there WAS a majority. How do we quantify a ‘majority?’ Do we use the crowd at the McCoart Building 10/16? Do we use the signatures gathered by HSM? Do we use all the emails to our supervisors from various people, including those from outside Prince William County?
The blitzkrieg stormed our BOCS with very little warning. Our elected officials were pressured into making decisions before any public hearing was held. No, a citizens’ time the night of a vote doesn’t count as a public hearing. Time to digest the issues was not part of the legislation process. There was no referendum. The term ‘majority’ cannot be determined.
Are you sure Chris? I thought it was the guy who blogs alot over on the dark screen. Red Dawn teased about voting him into office. Did Corey kick MORE than one person out of citizens time?
Elena,
He didn’t really kick Bob Wills out. He attempted to silence him and threatened to have him removed as I recall from watching citizens’ time. I believe 9500 Liberty has a dedicated youtube of it.
Chris is correct about Mr. Crone. I believe he was removed or at least escorted out.
Fine line, I know.
Elena,
The gentleman on the video is Bob Wills. This footage does not include Corey attempting to silence him. I can’t find that clip.

Bob’s Magic BOCS Beater!
Elena,
You are thinking of Bob Wills and he was warned by Corey that his comments were over the top. To my knowledge Mr. Wills has NOT been taken out.
I have a photo of Mr. Crone being excorted out. It happened on 7/10/07.
Mr. Wills’ comments might have been rather caustic and not what the bocs wanted to hear, but I cannot say his remarks violated rules of decorum, any more than many other comments have.
So what are the rules of decorum there? Don’t scold the supervisors?
I also thought that Corey told Mrs. Caddigan that she was not allowed to respond from the dais. Does it strike anyone else as odd that he can but she can’t?
The hypocrisy marches on…..
Bob the Magic Dragon is hilarious. I hope he starts his own youtube channel. Corey attacked him and almost had him escorted out for speaking his mind. Does this make anyone else think twice about speaking your mind at the BOCS?
What bothered me is that none of the other Supervisors spoke up in defense of Bob’s first amendment rights to ‘petition the government for a redress of grievances’.
Here’s the first amendment in case any BOCS is reading this blog:
That’s not Baghdad being referred to in the quote above. It is Helena, Arkansas.
It is under 24 hour curfew. I think even Baghdad doesn’t have a 24 hour curfew. Inch by inch, closer to the police state…

Perhaps Mr. S has bully confused with bully pulpit? Would take some thinking for Mr. S to discover what that really means…….
For anyone contemplating a trip to the Big Apple, you will be happy to know that soon Officer Friendly will be tracking your every movement…for your safety of course.
Even if you are travelling alone because you have some very personal business to take care of, like perhaps visit a special psychotherapist, you should be comforted that you are never really alone. Officer Friendly is right there, by your side.

Caddigan, or for that matter, any member of the BOCS can respond to over the top comments from the dais, they merely have to invoke personal priviledge if they believe a comment has crossed the line. That having been said, its rarely invoked as part of the job is to sit there and take the heat for your decisions.
Stewart is so out of line. Remove him.
In the initiating post, Elena asked:
The answer: yes. Of course. It’s pretty much been that way since this country (a republic, actually) became a self-determining independent nation under the current Constitution 219 years ago. That politicians (and citizens) have failed to live up to the foundational ideologies defined by the Declaration of Independence and embodied in the Preamble of the Constitution should come as no surprise to anyone.
As to Corey Stewart . . . he isn’t the issue. To spotlight him, whether for his redeeming qualities or for his faults, simply serves to fortify the notion that he is somehow relevant or important. Doing so also relinquishes power to him. The power to change does not rest solely in the hands of only one self-interested politician. But moreso, focusing on him totally misses the point and does zero justice to advancing real solutions to the core issue at hand. The only thing is, though, is that it is predictable that different folks on here have differing ideas as to what that core issue is.
Define the core issue, discuss solutions, then work to achieve those solutions. That should be the main focus.
Robb,
Your are correct, but it has been a challenge defining the core issues! People are so polarized, especially, in my mind, by “illegal is illegal”. I have expressed, on numerous occassion, that is seems like an impossible task to talk about solutions because no one agrees on the what the actual problems are! How do we do this, move towards defining the issues in order to create the solutions?
Robb, Which one is you?
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3332451741529406907
I lived near Morristown, NJ briefly as a child. Things have certainly changed. I remember Bambergers at Christmas, not marauding gangs of nativists hanging out.
I do not think it matters who Robb is in the video (that gives me vertigo btw) What matters is that we not have incidents like this in Prince William County. I couldn’t figure out who the ‘peacekeepers’ were. That’s just ugly business.
I see a lot of tax money spent because of anti-immigration groups. The money spent on police presence is clearly visible in the video just as it’s taken a big chunk from our local budget. And it’s money that doesn’t address many of the basic problems that effect most people who complain about immigration (legal or otherwise).
I think the core issues vary for many of us. I personally don’t like a small vocal group usurping county policy – particularly without public hearings. Hopefully, at this point our BOCS has become aware of how they were bamboozled by outside faxes and emails and they’ll be vigilant of the public trust to prevent a recurrence of that improper influence. Corey Stewart obviously doesn’t care what the citizens of the county think. He’s interested in Corey Stewart.
For other people who live in neighborhoods with zoning violations and issues best handled by the police, their core issues may be more immediate and best handled by increased NS and police staff. They may again find themselves living among poorer people than themselves as some of those neighborhoods have really taken a hit in home vacancies and seen severe price drops. Some of them may need to work on forming neighborhood associations to bring a better, more efficient sense of community. It’ll be hard for them, but they’ll have to make the most effort.
For the county to rid itself of the ugly image that a nasty politically focused anti-immigrant campaign gave it, someone needs to admit the error and work to improve relationships with the Hispanic community as well as continue to do a damn good PR campaign to bring more decent jobs and a different image here. I’m an Independent and I’ll say this – the local Republican party needs to kick these wingnuts to the curb. The state is turning bluer, people are sick of the divisiveness and fear-mongering. Find another platform besides trying to get one segment of Americans to hate another segment of Americans. You do as much or more damage than the terrorist-bogeymen you routinely drag out. Finger-wagging lecture over. Here’s a link to some Republican money that went to HSM.
http://www.vpap.org/vendors/profile/details/128646?committee_id=904
No shame there. I guess that explains who owns whom. I don’t know much about campaign finance but it seems to me that there is something fishy. The money seems to be going in the wrong direction.
Censored, funny you should mention the many hidden costs when you first started the finger wagging. Didn’t ADC Superintendent Melitis mention soaring gas costs to transport our legal residents elsewhere because of jail overcrowding? Now there is a hidden cost I wouldn’t have thought of. No reimbursement on those costs by the feds. Does anyone know more about this issue?
“He says he will begin pushing for measures that make it easier for immigrants to come to the United States without breaking the law.”
Mr. Stewart – What are the details on this one, will the County now issue immigration visas?
Censored,
That link makes me want to yack! I’m so glad you told me about that, since I didn’t know that the Republican party helped to fund HSM.
The Virginia GOP has gone off the deep end. Giving money to Greg Letiecq to poison PWC with racial division has got to be the all time most dispicable use of donations from honest hard-working citizens.
MoonHowler is right. If anything this clandestine pay-off should have gone the other way … FROM right wing extremists using hate to mobilize volunteers and solicit donations TO the immoral politicial operatives willing to pander to them, NOT from the immoral political operatives to the hate-mongers!!!
Censored is right. There will be no progress for Virginia and no hope for the Virginia GOP until the extremists, political opportunists, and hatemongers are marginalized instead of celebrated.
This immoral strategy is clearly an act of desparation. If it succeeds in 2008, we’ll see more of it in 2009. Any candidate who runs on an Anti-Immigrant agenda deserves to lose. I’d rather see a short losing streak that leads to long-lasting reform than see a diseased and destructive party leadership rewarded for such shortsighted treachery.
I wonder if the donation to HSM had more to do with keeping GregL happy so he would continue to furiously pound the keyboard for them.
Goodbye republicans. Only your rabid base is left.
What are the tax implications surrounding HSM for them to accept donations? Are they 501(c)? Could this be a pass through deal?
Where do I sign up to get a check?
What a shock, Fitzsimmons was the receipent of their second highest contribution, and only just barely second. Methinks this was a payoff to pound on Colgan. Nothing wrong with that, politics as usual, what it does underscore (given Fitzsimmon’s earlier comments) is merely a larger, albeit less successful, version of Corey, willing to shift with wind for no other purpose than personal advancement.
Alanna makes an excellent point. Why is Prince William County going to get involved in legal immigration? Does Mr. Stewart suffer from delusions of grandeur? Why does he stay things like this?
Juturna, that seems like an awful lot of money. I do not know what their status is and it doesn’t say on the website, or at least it didn’t used to say. If they are a 501(c)3 it is my understanding that they cannot do some of the things they have done. Specifically:
If they haven’t violated this one, then they have walked right up and put their toes on the line.
Sounds like “Cooch” PAC to me. Especially, with Fitzsimmons being the first runner up.
Does anyone know?
Don’t get me started on Fitz! I knew him through some various land use issues, when I recieved his various overtly racial flyers during the election, one showing unclean latino men, standing at the border with a police officer, I was UNDONE to say the least. I e-mailed Bob, told him how incredibly offended I was by his numerous e-mailers, depicting hispanic men in such negative ways while the other flyers had pretty blond haired blue eyed children in such “attractive” flyers with positive messages. He tried to weasel out of the obvious to me and I just told him his tactics were despicable to me and there was no acceptable explanation. I was very relieved to see Colgan defeat him.
Elena-You do realize he’s landed himself a gig as Michelle McQuigg’s right hand man, don’t you?
Bob Fitzsimmons and ‘Cooch’ are both the quintessential Religion Right (Wrong). I would never support any person who felt they are entitled to make moral decisions for me, and this includes both of their stances on immigration issues. They sicken me and regardless of their trumped up religious views, certainly do not represent pious people to me. I see them as control freaks.
Juturna-Try their booth at the fair. 😉
Cronyism is alive and well in Prince William County, I can see.
Slither Hither,
No way! Why would she make such a poor choice?
Repulican infiltration at ALL levels of local government?
Republicans have succeeded to a degree in creating a new political base: anti-immigrants. They realized that their traditional God, guns and gays base wasn’t netting enough to win elections. They created this new anti-immigrant base and they may have succeeded in winning 2008 elections if not for those pesky, curvaceous women on antibvbl and the rascally kids at 9500liberty. Big kiss to ya’ll.
I like your euphemisms MUCH better NGL 🙂
Would that be the 4 G’s? God, guns, gays, and Gringos?
