From FAIR’s website, where they once again accuse legal immigrants of causing economic hardship on localities. How did Corey allow himself to become a tool for this organization? So, if we believe Federation for American Immigration Reform(FAIR), then Corey’s own wife, who is a legal permanent resident is to blame for straining resources and causing sprawl!

Can you imagine these organizations like FAIR & Immigration Reform Law Institute(IRLI) claim to be for legal immigration but at the same time have their representatives write books like – “The Case Against Immigration” which is currently being hauked by Mark Krikorian from IRLI.

Listen, if you want to write a book like that fine, just don’t lie to me and tell me that you’re pro-immigrant!

Around the Country

Virginia

The northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. have become a hotbed of immigration reform activism in recent years. In 2006, the city of Herndon voted out of office all but one local official who had supported a day labor hiring site for illegal aliens. More recently, Prince William County has attracted national attention by instituting local immigration enforcement policies and cooperating closely with federal immigration authorities. A new report by the University of Virginia demonstrates why local residents are so concerned about mass immigration. The report finds that one in five northern Virginia residents is now foreign-born and statewide the immigrant population has doubled since 1980. This rapid influx of both government sanctioned and illegal immigrants has strained local resources and contributed to population driven sprawl in the region.

88 Thoughts to ““Stewart’s Wife Strains Resources and Causes Sprawl” What?”

  1. Elena

Great find Alanna! Wow, don’t I just LOVE being used as marketing tool by a hate group(sarcasm!)

How could Corey AND John not have done just a modicum of research to find out the background of IRLI and FAIR?

Let me help clarify about sprawl and strain on local resources! OVERDEVELOPMENT in the wrong areas creates sprawl! Approving thousands of new homes without the proper infrastructure in place creates the strain on local resources! Geez, talk about spinning of facts! Blaming “illegal immigrants” for sprawl and strain on resources is a new one on me, considering that I have been fighting “sprawl” for fives years and NEVER once has the smart growth community EVER blamed this dilema on “illegals/hispanics” !

  2. Elvis

does not seem like a hate group to me, they have it right.

if anyone can be labled a hate group it’s you people, you all hate american and hate the county. I hope you go to bed ashamed of the crap you type. self-deport yourselves please.

  3. Elvis

    Elena,

dont you have a job other than finding a cause to support? if not, get one and see how the real world lives.

  4. Censored bybvbl

I’ve long found it bizarre that so many Red Spots and their supporters who happen to be immigrants or whose spouses are immigrants don’t see the irony of an anti-immigrant organization writing the resolution they support. They’ll say that they’re against “illegal” immigration, but FAIR doesn’t make that distinction. My opinion is that they, the legal immigrants, know that the Letiecq’s of the world dislike and vilify “illegal” immigrants – and probably any immigrant who doesn’t think or look like them – and they don’t want to be ostracized so they yell “I’m legal. I did it the right way. I’m not like all those dirty immigrants you despise!”

  5. DiversityGal

    Elvis,

Is deportation your solution to everything? Honestly, I am getting tired of you and others saying “self-deport” or “go live in another country” when someone thinks a different way than you do. No matter how many times you tell everyone here that they hate America or hate the county, our voices and valid opinions WILL NOT go away. When you say things like that, it just sounds like a little kid calling names when they have no substance left to argue.

The sad part about this is that I think a lot of people on this blog are willing to exchange ideas with you, even if they have a different opinion than you. Unfortunately, you have time and time again resorted to posting nasty distractions when you do not like someone’s opinion. I am not going to tell you to leave… or to go post on a different blog. That would be too similar to your current tactics. However, I am not sure that it is even worth it at this point to ask you to stop. Just in case, though, know that I am interested in your opinions, and not your put-downs.

Even though you have a very different opinion than me, it is OK if you live in this country. You can think how you like to. You can love America in your way, and I can love it in mine. I don’t pretend to understand everything about how you think and how you show your patriotism. Please, have the courtesy not to pretend that you understand everything about others here, and then ask them to get the heck out of the US for their beliefs. Really, girlfriend, intolerance is not your best color.

    On another note…

    Alanna,

    I LOVE what you said…

“Listen, if you want to write a book like that fine, just don’t lie to me and tell me that you’re pro-immigrant!”

This is very true. I do not like it when people say this is simply an issue of legality, and then turn around and provide evidence that it is about much more than that. It has always seemed to me that organizations like FAIR exploit the prejudices within people, and attempt to give said prejudices a legitimate face.

Of course, there needs to be immigration reform in this country. However, I have a very hard time accepting reform that is built on a foundation of prejudice. I just can’t support it. It is interesting that so many people blogging or even standing up before the Board of Supervisors say prejudiced things about Hispanic or Latino people in the name of bucking political correctness or “being edgy.” Many of these same people then fully expect the world to somehow ignore what they just said, and see them as unbiased and objective, and that this issue has nothing to do with the hatred they just spewed. Unreal…

  6. Elena

    Elvis,
You are now in moderation. If you had to be part of an open and public discussion, I sincerely doubt you would behave in this manner. Learn some manners, consistently, and you will come out of moderation. If you then come out of moderation, start your offensive behavior again, you will be banned.

In any other circumstances, if this were some group that met on a regular basis to discuss various topics, there would be rules agreed upon by the group. The group here has tried to tell you how insulting your behavior is, you continue to ignore, IF you are ultimately banned, it will be because of your own behavior and no other reason.

  7. […] Stewart’s Wife Strains Resources and Causes Sprawl at Anti-BVBL. This post asks the quintessential question for supposed pro-legal immigration anti-”illegal” immigration groups. How can you be pro-immigrant when all you do is badmouth immigrants and provide no solutions to make the immigration system more positive? I think we know the answer. […]

  8. Lucky Duck

They (FAIR) kind of shot themselves in the foot with their own argument. Why would you be against legal immigration?

  9. Moon-howler

And FAIR just blew a hole in a lot of people’s argument. It is going to be hard to say ‘go home and come back the right way’ with this bit of information staring us in the face. I guess now they will have to just say ‘Go home!” which is what they really mean anyway.

  10. Slither hither

There are many commenters that have immigrant wives, or so they claim. I wonder how they are feeling this fine Monday morning after reading this. Will they too continue to spout and spew their it’s about “illegal immigration”?
Looks like the cat’s out of the bag now.

  11. Alanna

    From irli.org’s website –
“IRLI seeks to defend the rule of law. IRLI is the public interest law affiliate of the Federation for American Immigration Reform.”

IRLI provided the resolution to the County with the help of Robert Duecaster. Why bother denying that anybody is anti-immigrant, it’s so blantantly obvious!

  12. Alanna

By the way, this link back to FAIR on IRLI is relatively new; before there was no mention of their connection.

  13. Moon-howler

    Good job, Sleuth-Mistress Alanna.

It has been very obvious but you have found the connection in writing. No more lying and denying here in Prince William County.

  14. What comes around goes around, Corey.

I feel bad for your wife and child. You have drawn them into a precarious situation via an anti-IMMIGRANT group from whence your policy sprung.

HSM, Stirrup and Stewart can say all they want that they are not anti-immigrant, but when their roots are planted in FAIR’s policy, they are all implicated.

Yes, nice job Alanna. But sad to say, this says it all.

  15. Elena,

I want to say that I disagree with your moderation of Elvis. He may be offensive but I think the best way to deal with it is to encourage people not to respond to him.

  16. Chris

    Mackie,
I agree with you about Elvis. We should pay him NO ATTENTION. Clearly, he/she is starving to death for it. Let his his nastiness remain for all to read with their own two eyes, and then not say a word to her/him.

  17. Chris

There does become a point when ENOUGH IS ENOUGH too. I think he’s real close. If does get moderated and/or banned it’s his own doing, and actually I think that’s exactly what he/she wants. i don’t think they deserve that satisfaction. imho

  18. Juturna

Yeah, I would keep Tickle Me around, just as a reminder of what not to do, how we don’t want to be and why we are no longer on BVBL. He is also a reminder of what life is like in Serbia, Georgia, China. Chad, the Sudan and other such places (why do we say “the” with Sudan?). His one political thought, one viewpoint anti human rights remind us all why we are glad we are Americans. Talk about shooting yourself inthe foot. He proves us right each and every time he opens his mouth. I like the reminder of what Communism and Dictatorships are all about. Keep him around. He even makes me appreciate Mackie 🙂

Isn’t FAIR the group that has the gumball video? That is absolutely anti immigration. Again, the lack of being strategic or being able to stratify a situation is our downfall.

  19. Slither hither

    tickle_me_Elvis,
I hope you enjoy your time out. Will you be performing “Jail House Rock” while in time out?
Oh, you are the ONLY one in time out. You don’t have an audience there. And with any luck you won’t have us for an audience. I think all should ignore your ignorance.

  20. He even makes me appreciate Mackie 🙂

And I thought I was waiting in vain to be loved.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unfJUqDPpa8

  21. Moon-howler

Unfortunately, what we have seen out of Tickle_Me are the same old bully tactics that were applied to the BOCS, Chief Deane, political candidates who didn’t suit the small red circles and people who posted on the dark screen. That is just the MO. Too bad Tickle_Me didn’t know when to turn off the nasty. Once a bully, always a bully, I suppose.

  22. Lucky Duck

Those red circle types will fade away. Even at the the apex of their power in October, they could muster no more than 20 to 25 people to McCoart. But they caught the political people by surprise with all the faxes and e-mails and they got those on the fence worked up because they were a public and vocal group. Now that the rhetoric has faded and the bills are coming due, everyone else – including those that were on the fence – realize what happened.

  23. Elena

    Makie,
I understand your point, Elvis provide us the ability to “cut to the chase” with many people who say the they are simply are “rule of law” enforcers and not anti immigrant or anti hispanic. But at some point, people should not have the ability to continually be verbally abusive. It wouldn’t happen in the “real” world, why should we let it happen here. Elvis is only in moderation, meaning that his comments will be viewed and edited if necessary (like his expletive to moon-howler). He is not trustworthy to have free reign on this type of medium.

    Chris,
Unlike the dark screen, you were put in moderation, unbeknownst to you, and with no explanation of why. This situation is completey different. Elvis has been warned to stop his abusive behavior and chose to ignore the warning. Like any naughty child, consistency and follow through is imperative 🙂 I don’t know what it proves if ultimately gets banned, that he was simply so insulting that people no longer wanted to read his words? I just don’t see the positive in allowing him to continue on his rants. We get the same types of comments, over and over from him.

  24. Elena

    Juturna,
I see your point, I do, and maybe the point of Elvis, and to an extent this blog, is too point out the fallacy of an Elvis. He’s still in moderation, not banned, and if he posts again, I will approve his comment (minus any f-words, etc). In any group dynamic you have the one member, always craving the attention, which can ultimately distract from the work of the group. But, maybe that is the “work” of our group, to deal with people like Elvis.

  25. Elena, I’m not sure you CAN work with people whose only tactic is attempt to anger people and ruin the discussion. I agree he should be ignored most of the time. Your choice to moderate or not.

  26. Moon-howler

Elena is kinder than I am. I am too much of an f-ing idiot to figure out how to release Elvis. I see he used one of his get out of jail free cards.

For me, there is a big blank white spot where he thinks he has left a message.
    ——————————————————————————————————–

    Lucky Duck,

I sincerely hope you are correct. I feel that you are. Very few are fooled now. IN fact, as we speak, more and more is being uncovered.

  27. Chris

    Elena,
I do understand he’s been warned, and I have no problem with what ultimately happens to Elvis. By banning him it will be called “censorship”.There’s NOTHING positive to his tantrums. However, he does provide a certain level of “entertainment”. What ever should become of Elvis doesn’t really matter one way or the other. What ever this blog determines to be fitting for Elvis is fine by me. On one hand I think keep him around, and then on the other hand he deserves to be banned.

I was never a victim of have my comments being put in moderation. My comments were simply deleted on bvbl. I don’t feel I indicated this blog was in any way like the other. I clearly stated some differences yesterday.

  28. Mom

Lafayette, err, Chris, welcome to the deleted club. Glad to see you could take “constructive criticism, even if it came with a heavy dose of sarcasm.

  29. Chris

    Mom,
Thank you. I do have the ability to listen and make adjustments accordingly. I enjoy sarcasm, and even if it my expense. 😉

I’ve been wondering where you were. Did you see by any chance see a story about your “favorites” Toll Brothers in West Virginia. Thousands of dead fish on farmer’s land wash out of the nearby neighborhood. It seems as though they are having serious trouble with storm water pond overflowing and washing away thousands of fish. I’ve tried to dig the clip up from Channel 5, but to no avail. I know how much you like them.
    Lafayette(just for you)

  30. Chris

    RedDawn,
Many thanks for finding that. The visual on tv was horrible.

  31. Juturna

Well, I do usually treat folks like Elvis as an Advent Project…. had one at work. Designated him one about 11 years ago. Still at it with the same guy. I am forever hopeful. Glad you will keep him around.

Mackie, thought you’d appreciate that. Don’t get too excited. But, fair is fair.
    🙂

  32. Elvis

wow, I’m totally flattered with all this attention! I’m glad, really glad, that I’m being warned and not banned to the time out chamber. I think I will stick around if I’m allowed, I need a home and some of you (moon I mean you) seriously entertain me, I totally LIVE for moon’s posts, very John Steinbachish but still very entertaining.

If you keep me around I promise to behave myself, at least enough to keep some civility but not enough to stop being entertaining, at least to myself if not anyone else.

    Elvis lives

one of the posters here brought up a seriously good point, how does anyone know I’m not a girl or something in between?

  33. Moon-howler

Juturna, Give us a definition of Advent Project. Am I one? 😉

  34. Elena

    Hi Chris,
I did realize you were being discerning between blogs, I just wanted to clarify for the benefit of “all” readers who might happen along. I also think though, that deleting comments is the same as censorship. Either way, moderation or deleting, there is a controlled conversation. From a counselor perspective, I see us trying to promote dialogue on this blog, in such a way, that constructive results are possible. I love a good debate, I dont mind if people disagree. I might not agree with Michael, regarding most of what he writes, but he is ALWAYS respectful. I think, in any group setting, there must be some rules, such that, communication, give and take, is possible. I’m sure Elvis will be pleased to hear, as the brunt of most of his nastiness, it was just getting to the point where I was tired of being the target. Even if it is only written words, the continuous insults were getting to me. I’m sure Elvis is smiling, knowing his meanness was effective. I still feel sorry for him, but my pity doesn’t have to mean I will continually indulge his nasty behavior.

  35. tickle_me_ELVIS

nah….I’m not smiling, had a really rough day today, even though I’m being moderated I know you’ll see this.

  36. Elena

Well Elvis, I guess I am somewhat relieved you are not smiling. Sorry you had a rough day.

  37. Elvis

I’m relieved too, never been kicked out of a blog before. A bar yes, but a blog never. But then again, first time for everything I suppose. Did anyone hear that schlitz beer is coming back? the old-time recipe and everything, it’s classic like drinking keystone when I was 15 or something.

  38. Juturna

Moonhowler – No you are not an Advent project. My definition is taking on something difficult and finding a blessing. Anything viable counts.

  39. Lucky Duck

Elvis, since you said you are at the courhouse every day, if you were something “in between”, you would be the talk of the courts and easily identified. So we can scratch that choice. We’re back to two.

  40. Juturna

Far too much discussion about Elvis. Believe this is the second thread dedicated to him/her/it.

I would love to know what Mr. Stewarts thoughts are about this. Of course, he might not see how it impacts him?

    or

Anyone hear Imus on Jon Edwards today? I was laughing out loud.

  41. Lucky Duck

Juturna, that definition has the ring of a Catholic school education and perhaps a Jesuit University.

  42. Juturna

…… and I thought I was being soooo secular in choosing my words!!!
Can’t hide it under a bushel.

  43. Lucky Duck

Some times you gotta dig deep to find the missing blessing.

  44. Elena

I too would like to know what Corey thinks about FAIR’s anti immigrant stance? The reality is that he did not know that IRLI was an arm of FAIR, he did not know that were were to be their “experiment”. But now, he does know, and yet he still has not made the correction to his tride and true mantra. It has been awhile since we have heard anything from him, maybe he will finally just let immigration lie and go back to his original smart growth platform. He did vote the right way on the Rural Crescent. Maybe now he can mend fences with the business community and start figuring out a way to heal our image in PW.

  45. Elena

I know what you mean Lucky Duck. There have been times I have had to dig deep to find that hidden blessing.

  46. Moon-howler

No way we are going to girly-up Elvis. The King cannot be a queen in cyberland. Big E, if you are a girl, you just have to girl-up and tell us and turn into Elvis-etta or something.

You told us you were a guy and we are taking you at your word.

  47. Moon-howler

Talk of the court house indeed! Thanks, Lucky Duck, for a much needed laugh.

Juturna, I am just not getting it. JV over here. Surrounded by it but I didn’t quite make the grade.

  48. Chris

    Elena,
I don’t like the deleting either.
Hopefully, Elvis will play nicely. 😉
