According to the County’s Agenda item 9-J-1, which mysteriously has disappeared from the latest version, the County will not be able to add the 4 new Officers nor the support staff that was to accompany them for ’09 Budget. My question is why the description of the cuts removed? Was it a simple oversight, or was done intentionally by the person who determines the agenda?

Duh. Makes you want to fix the border first, otherwise you get back someone who’s really pissed off at you.

  3. Moon-howler

Ah, what would we do without the daily driveby of useless information.

  4. Marie

Does anybody know the answer to the thread about the County’s Agenda 9-J-1 posted by Alanna?

My guess is none of the above. Were you able to see the staff report when the agenda was first issued? If it was pulled, there may have been last-minute changes necessary to the item. The page does say that the report wasn’t available at time of dispatch…which means the Clerk didn’t have the item when the package was sent forward.

perhaps it’s time to take another look at the cost effectiveness of the Illegal Immigration Initiative?

It appears the state revenue to the locality has been cut by about 1.2 million dollars. Not only will that need to be cut but the local matching funds will need to be cut as well. That adds up to more than 1.2 million depending on what the local government has budgeted where the state reimburses a share.

  8. Did anyone write to PWC Police to ask about the cuts?

  9. Juturna

Hirohito is wakin’ up. Be warned dude.

  10. Moon-howler

    Juturna,

What are you smoking over there, girl? Hirohito? Jumpin’ Godzilla!

  11. Juturna

Yeah, working on my omega 3 intake. OD’d on Green Tea. Sorry for the interruption guys…..

  12. Fontbonne

more cuts are coming, folks. County revenue shortfall for FY10 is estimated near $100M. There is absolutely no way to maintain current levels of service without a tax increase.

  13. Moon-howler

I guess some of our fearless leaders will have to suck it up and increase our tax rate or we will be a third world county. Funny, and to think they used to try to tell us it was the “illegals” who were going to make us third world, when actually, it is our own lack of money.

Probably time to reprioritize spending. Amazing what $30,000 here, $30,000 there can do, isn’t it?

  14. Fontbonne

I don’t know that we’d descend to third-world levels. But we can probably kiss the capital improvements goodbye, for starters. Market adjustments for employees will go, too. After two years of that, you can expect turnover in many positions…so kiss the experienced staff goodbye (and with them, the years of institutional knowledge.) Training budgets will be cut, if not eliminated. Watch for increased fees for services where applicable, too. Oh, and to-the-bone cuts in human services.

Ouch. How do you sell yourself as a world class community, with a world class educational system after that?

Does anyone know how we compare with Fairfax, percentage wise?

  16. Fontbonne

I’m not sure I understand your question. Percentage of budget shortfall?

  17. Oh yeah. It was all the illegals’ fault, right?

    These people…..are the biggest…..ARG!

I should get off the computer now. I already have a headache. My limited source of niceness is being taxed. So to speak.

  18. Bring it On

How can we compare ourselves to Fairfax, people will say Fairfax is worse off because they have a larger shortfall but they probably have a much larger budget than PWC. Is there a way to compare?

  19. Fontbonne

Sure there is. We benchmark against Fairfax on a regular basis. You have to look at order of magnitude, per-citizen expenditure, number of citizens per employee, etc. You also want to look at the tax rate.

  20. Fear Not

I wouldn’t worry too much about the information not being posted online. Fontbonne is probably right; it was likely that a change needed to be made to the document.

  21. Juturna

PWC is roughly 1/3 the size of Fairfax.

  22. Moon-howler

I am guessing since it was state revenue cuts that since PWC is about 1/3 the size of Fairfax, that they lost 3 times more than we did?
