Chairman Stewart is scheduled to speak in Washington today on “The Toll of Illegal Alien Criminals on American Families.” Here’s my advise, stay home. He has zero knowledge on the subject, he officially is not speaking officially on behalf of the County but rather has made it known that he will be expressing his own opinion. Frankly, I would be better qualified to speak on this matter than he, so who invited him to speak on the matter? Well, the whole ‘Hold Their Feet to the Fire’ campaign held this week was coordinated by Federation for American Immigration Reform(FAIR). Surprise, surprise.

My recommendation for everyone else, is to visit this new application at America’s Voice (http://americasvoiceonline.org/page/speakout/writecongress) and send emails to our elected officials.

For Immediate Release:

Congressional Event Perpetuates Myth of Immigrant Criminality
Crime forum overlaps with restrictionist organization’s lobby days

September 10, 2008

Washington, DC- Tomorrow morning, Republican members of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration are regrettably perpetuating the persistent myth of immigrant criminality with their forum on “The Toll of Illegal Alien Criminals on American Families.” Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and Steve King (R-Iowa) are spearheading tomorrow’s conversation.

Numerous studies by independent researchers and government commissions over the past 100 years have consistently found that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than the native-born. This holds true for both legal immigrants and the undocumented, regardless of their country of origin or level of education.

It’s not likely a coincidence that Smith and King’s forum is happening during the same week that the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is lobbying Congress, demanding an impractical and hateful agenda of mass deportations, worksite raids, and other expensive and ultimately ineffective approaches as part of their “Hold Their Feet to the Fire” gathering. The Republican forum is even featuring some of the same witnesses who participated in FAIR’s rally this afternoon.

It is disappointing to see law makers Smith and King–along with their fellow congressmen Darrell Issa (R-CA), Brian Bilbray (R-CA), and Duncan Hunter (R-CA) who attended FAIR’s rally today–tarnish the Republican brand by supporting the agenda of FAIR, an organization designated a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center. It is especially troubling to see law-makers exploit the pain of the victims of these terrible crimes to promote their political motives. There is no doubt that dangerous criminals must be punished, and that immigrants who are dangerous criminals should not be allowed to enter the US or should be deported if they already are here. But exploiting the profound painful loss of crime victims to spread the myth that immigrants are criminals is irresponsible and disingenuous.

89 Thoughts to “Stewart Scheduled to Speak about Immigration Today in DC”

  1. IVAN

Apparently Corey has taken a giant step backward in his political ambitions. Perhaps he heard that there would be cameras there but not Eric and Annabel.

  2. IVAN

BTW, these people (FAIR) have a way of deciding who an “expert” is. It generally revolves around whether or not these so-called experts agree with their (FAIR) own political agenda.

  3. Figures he’s joining FAIR today in DC.

Maybe he will join them on a full-time basis and get the hell out of our county.

  4. Marie

Oh! Another black eye for Prince William County. Wonder how much coaching Mr. S got from GL and RD?

  5. Won’t they be there as well, Marie?

  6. Chris

    Marie,
Coaching. I was wondering who wrote the words Corey will address them with? And if the his blackberry would be buzzing with “new intell”.
Black eye, indeed. How much more of a beating is this county going to have to take?

  7. Marie

    kgotthardt,
Don’t know if GL or RD will be there or not. Does anyone else know?

    Chris,
    I was wondering the same.

  8. Chris

    Marie,
I think RD extented an invitation to all of the twenty some people present at the last HSM meeting. Wonder if they got any takers. Will they be travelling in an armored vehicle? Did you see my post on BOS meeting on prior thread from last night? I’m sure you’ll find it most interesting as well.

  9. Marie

Interesting. Prince William Co will not have 2 black eyes and a broken nose because GL and RD will probably be there to put in their 2 cents worth.

I will read your post from last night. Have not read that yet. Was out of town all day yesterday.

  10. Marie

    Chris,
Read your post. Yes, it is very interesting. I thought I had seen and heard it all but I am continually astounded by some people.

I am all for freedom of speech but it needs to contain some semblance of responsibility. I find none in anything GL or RD say. They just continually want to fan the flames of hate and much of what they say is based in myth or half-truths.

  11. Marie

Correction: Prince William Co will NOW have 2 black eyes and a broken nose because GL and RD will probably be there to put in their 2 cents worth.

  12. Slither hither

    Marie,
I caught your post above. Has there been a back ground check done on gl or rd?

  13. Dan Stein is the President of a Hate Group lobbying firm in Washington DC called F.A.I.R. He is “very proud” of his work in Prince William County as he testified before the U.S. Civil Rights Commission last year. F.A.I.R. is doing a dog and pony show today even though McCain kicked their anti-immigrant butts in the primary and, as a result, their racist agenda is being ignored by all but the most hateful and extreme Americans.

Prince William was supposed to be a shining example of what happens when you let an Anti-Immigrant Hate Group from Washington DC write the local laws of a county instead of the people who live there.

But yesterday’s Washington Post article proves that the same tiny, 1.6 percent of crime is being committed by undocumented individuals CONSISTENTLY over the past six months since their policy began. Not that 1.6 percent could drop very much. But when you consider that the police have essentially been ordered to look out for people who might look illegal, 1.6 percent is probably over-representative.

So the big lie that made this whole economic and public safety disaster possible turned out to be even less true than most of the pro-immigrant people claimed in 2007. 1.6 percent of the crime is too small a number to spend 50 percent of your time and resources, especially when your job had formerly been keeping us safe.

  14. –Has there been a back ground check done on gl or rd?–

I’m betting NO. I don’t think appointees have to get background checks.

  15. KathyZ

Stewart was on WMAL talking about ‘blowhards’ in Prince William County that oppose the resolution.

  16. Slither hither

    kg-
That was an inside joke just for Marie.;)
I don’t think a background check is or should be required of appointees.

  17. Moon-howler

Blowhards? You have got to be kidding me. Is that how he speaks of his constituents who do not necessarily agree with him? I guess those who agree with him on everything but immigration are still blowhards?

Where can we get a copy of that audio?

That is one term I will personally make sure he never forgets.

  18. Moon-howler

KathyZ, which show was Corey on?

  19. Elena

He was on the Chris Core show, gag me! Whoops, Michael may that that suggestion literally! Just kidding Michael, please don’t gag me or throw me in jail 😉

He was lying by ommision and the completely uninformed Chris ate it up, all the half truths and lies.

1)Crime has decreased by almost 20% because of the resolution- LIE, we all know it has been steadily decreasing since 2004, until this past 6 months of course where it remained flat.

2)Savings in schools because ESOL has dropped, WHAT proof is that? Furthermore, let’s just say for arguments sake, it’s true, we have lost latino immigrants, legal our otherwise, do we really want to brag about that? I am also wondering why he refused to take responsibility for our forclosure crisis being number on in Virginia? Did these people only go to school and jail ? I assume they must have LIVED somewhere!

3)Uninsured birth rate is down but forgot to mention that ER visits have INCREASED!

4)TOTALLY left out that only 1.6 % of arrested are “illegal Immigrants”

But my favorite was when he called all us citizens who speak out “big mouths”. I swear he said big mouths, but “blowhards” are just as bad. Yes, we are the big mouths, but his minions getting up and talking about machine guns, dogs, and barbed wire are perfectly reasonable people? OY VAY as my Bubbie would say 🙂

  20. Moon-howler

I am sick of those lies he tells. No empirical evidence. He just pulls monkeys out of his butt because he is told to say that. He doesn’t care if the information is accurate or not.

At this point I am just so disgusted with this county. The chairman goes on regional radio and tells huge lies. The vice chair appoints people to strategic task force committees, one a person who is so bored with life she can’t stop writing FOIA requests. Can everyone say PEST. She has cost the county a fortune sticking her nose into other people’s business, just trying to catch someone doing something SHE doesn’t approve of. (Remember Church lady on SNL? –Is that YOU SATAN???????????)

The other appointee sounds like some sort of bad rapper dude going around packing heat with his doberman having some sort of psychotic episodes about ILLEGALS invading his country and getting out garden tools for self defense. And these people are who our elected officials think should be guilding the county on citizens committees?

  21. Slither hither

“Blow Hards”, he wasn’t serious was he? I will reserve my crude comments on that one. Oh, and if it was “big mouths” that’s equally as funny.
Moony-sad, but true. Although, I’ve been entertained with your words of wisdom. Or is that “pearls of wisdom”.

  22. Marie

He referred to people who expressed a different view as “blow hards”? OMG! Now Prince William County not only has two black eyes and a bloody nose but a big fat lip, too.

  23. Marie

Isn’t CS a great public spokeman for Prince William?

  24. Uninsured birth rates, huh? Yeah, he’s on the “kill all babies to lower the population crew” for sure.

“I don’t think a background check is or should be required of appointees”

I most definately disagree. Appointees are the people recommending policy. Would you want a killer, for example, doing that? How about a KKK member? How about a child molester? Be real.

And how about signing an statement of ethics? Or is that too much to ask of our local government?

  25. Bring it On

    Well, said Moonhowler.

  26. Chris

    MoonHowler,
I had to find some church chat for you. Enjoy!
    http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/church-chat/2732/

  27. Moon-howler

Well Chris, isn’t that SPECIAL! Thanks. I sure miss Church Lady and Church Chat. Maybe I should go over and see if Gospel Greg is doing any of that old time religion. Nah…just character assassination.

  28. Moon-howler

Still fixating on being called a ‘Blowhard.’

Corey and John didn’t have much of a paper trail when they first were elected to office. That is all changing.

Many people out there are now taking names and kicking ass, so to speak. The many stupid comments that have been made are now part of the annals of Prince William County history, both written and film media. <---(media hint hint...making Eric and Annabel part of the media) Maybe that is why Stirrup is so nervous about film media. He thinks it might make him and Corey look stupid. Ya think???

  29. YOO HOO

I just want to know if there has ever been an FOIA request come back with blacked out segments….the question that remains, otherwise this is BS…..LOL!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-9L-RZkod4

I tried to post this 3 times….hmmm, to go even more with the theme…just kidding

  30. NotGregLetiecq

Elena, thanks for exposing the Corey Stewart Lies Of The Day.

I think Corey is spending too much time reading this blog. It’s getting under his skin and he feels forced to go on lying even as the truth is coming out bit by bit.

But you know at this point, he is discrediting himself more than he is the county. He’s become the king of the clowns and day by day more people find out about it.

  31. Moon-howler

They should come back with blacked out personal information like address, telephone number, email address. I seriously doubt that they do though.

  32. Michael

Corey is right about deporting “illegal” immigrants. “illegal” immigration is a crime, regardless of how much you try to re-define it, distort it, ignore it, sugar coat it and attempt to call it something else. 100% of “illegals” are criminals, check the federal statues again, and so are the people who aid and abet them, hide them and harbor them. Removing 100% of all “illegals” from the country, will remove 100% of the effects of “illegal” immigration (“the crime”) on 100% of the majority of people in this Democracy that elected the congressmen who made, created and supported these federal criminal statutes.

Personally, I see the laywers at F.a.i.r. as no different than the lawyers at SPLC. They are both private unions of lawyers and by each others definitions of the other group “racists” and racial hate-mongers unless they ALL take race and ethnic language completely out of the legal question ansd simply address the legality of the LAW. That is what LAWYERS and JUDGES are supposed to do in a LEGAL system. Politicians are supposed to CREATE law and policemen are supposed to ENFORCE it.

Sometime I think people have forgotten what their public jobs are, except Corey. He is advocating for enforcement of the law in a democracy that made the law and for people that voted for him to represent him and their majority desires.

I have no issue with him. He has violated neither of the following concepts.

    1. He has advocated for law enforcement and the enforcement of existing law on “illegals”.
    2. He has not been a racist, exhibited any ethnic hated behavior that I have seen (loose and feeble association with politcal groups that other ethnic-centric political groups call a hate group does not mean an individual is a racist, not even close) or been a member of any racial hate group aligned along gender, racial, ethnic, or religious political group boundaries. He has aligned along republican and democratic political boundaries and acted on the political desires of the majority of his constituancy in the Democracy by honoring the “majority rule of law” in a democracy.

  33. Michael

Here we go with the “extreme” emotional comments again, backed by more speculation, manipulation of “numbers” and political malice. We totally miss the issues once again in our political diatribes and tyrades against Corey.

To not enforce law is to invite criminalization of the political infrastructure in our society and the eventual spiral into an unethical and immoral community.

So I disagree with you again it is a “problem” to enforce law and deport “illegals” and to stop racial hatred caused by ethnic group political alignment and political activity primarily exhibited by these illegals and the political activits that support them. I see enforcing the law as an absolute imperative to the health and welfare of our entire society, our Democracy and our legal system.

Your emotional attacks on Corey are mis-guided and way off-base as usual.

  34. Alanna

    Michael,
FAIR is an organization who’s mission is to reduce immigration levels both legal and illegal. The founder of FAIR has well published racist statements. From what I can ascertain the accusations against SPLC seems to be the founder is paid too much money.

Regarding Stewart, he slipped up yesterday when he singled out Spanish speaking respondants for questioning their legal status. I’ll ask Eric from 9500Liberty if he has the video of that. Otherwise, I will find it in the online video.

  35. Yuppers, those vids make Stirrup and Stewart look like liars and idiots. No wonder they don’t want them shown.

Hey, look! It’s the Pinkos of PWC!

  36. Red Dawn

I will reserve my judgment until I see PROOF but if true…..

  37. Michael

The founder of Fair is not Fair, any more than the founder of SPLC is SPLC. Yes individuals of all kinds make racist and ethnic group discriminatory statements, I see that a lot from minority groups too, from the NAACP and from the SPLC itself. What matters is the “legality” of what these groups do even though many of their leaders are “racists” like leaders of the NAACP. “racism” of that type, is harmful and it occurs on BOTH sides and with all gender, racial, religious and ethnic centric political groups.

What matters most is the EQUALITY of the law. Unless any of these groups break law, they have the same rights to free speech as anyone, they do not however have “rights” to be racists, whether it is the NAACP, the SPLC, the ADL, Fair, or any other “ethnic” aligned political group.
I do not agree with reducing legal immigration, unless the nation determines it must through law and congressional action that it must for its own future welfare. If or when the nation sees the need to do this it must do so with law and enforce that law equtably across all “individuals”, not just specific gender, ethnic, racial or religious groups.

I do support eliminating “illegal” immigration, I have been very clear on that and very clear on stopping racism, from both FAIR and SPLC mouths and minds (AND even the LWV is “racist” from a perspective of only supporting gender-centric law). tHIS OCCURS ANYTIME law IS equally APPLIED AND beneficial to everyone as “individuals” ONLY.

The problem with this “race” issue is in my opinion a problem created by one ethnic group specifically dominating the “numbers” of illegal immigrants, when the Law is blind to all. It is a law enforced on everyone, regardless of national origin, and regardless of how many “individuals” break it.
When you make this a RACE issue, everytime you lose the “legal” perspective, and thus WILL LOSE YOUR ARGUMENT.

  38. Michael

When you make this a “race” issue, you very often become a racist yourself, ever think about the truth in that?

  39. Red Dawn

    Michael,

The argument gets STUCK/LOST on TABOO buzz words of RACE. This is why so many people will come together ( which I know you argue against) to have ONE SUPER LOUD voice or SLAP ( ouch) for a wake up call to TRUTH.

  40. Michael

The argument gets lost when the LAW is lost Red Dawn. When the law is the SAME NO race, religion, gender or ethnic group has any legal claim to damage or harm, it is only a misguided and fabricated perception of harm, caused by their OWN RACISM.

This is what is wrong with gender, racial, ethnic, and religious group political advocacy along these political lines of BELIEF. IF the law is the SAME applied to all individuals, any group that speaks out claiming injustice or racism is itself RACIST.

RACISM only occurs when the law is NOT the same, and when people BREAK the LAW. IF you break such laws you are a RACIST.

Only the law can determine what is racism and what is not, the rest is free speech, mean free speech and selfish free speech mostly by RACISTS operating in political hate groups like the NAACP, SPLC, FAIR, ADL and LWV. THE LAW IS THE SAME for all of them, it is they who are the racists by CLAIMING IT IS NOT, basically a lie about the reality of the majority RULE OF LAW, created by congressmen, enforced by police, abused by RACISTS of all genders, races, religions and ethnic groups by their own hatred and for their own personal group dominance and political advancement over others.

I see this behavior a LOT on BOTH sides.

  42. Michael

The LAW is the TRUTH. The wake up call should be a slap to enforce it and stop pretending the LAW is unfair just because you don’t like some other gender, race, religion or ethnic group, or some “individual” or their political advocacy position to ENFORCE the LAW.

  43. Michael

Excellent post Info! That is also a Truth! and Lawful!

  44. Moon-howler

Michael, I believe you have said that the police dept and/or county manipulated facts and figured and that Corey spoke the truth. Prove it.

When you offer proof, then the discussion will continue.

  45. YOO HOO

    Michael,

I can honestly say that I agree. My mission is to preserve our constitutional rights PERIOD.
I see them slipping away and we have NO say or vote on the matter, THIS is the difference and where it changes for me not to solely rely on the law and toPROMOTE people to question and stay vigilant. I believe this to be the true American spirit.

With that said, I believe the MAJORITY of people (even on this blog) feel the same way BUT something is broken and we are trying to come together and fix it.

  46. Elena

    Michael,
How do you feel about the Anti Defamation League?

  47. Elena

I loved how Corey talked about crime and illegal immigrants. I wonder why he left out the most glaring aspect of Chief Deanes report…………..1.6 of all arrest are illegal immigrants or one could say, 98.4 % if criminals are legal Americans ! Geez, this is what we spent million of freakin’ money on? Money that could have, SHOULD have, been spent on services for the eldery and the young, parks and open space, libraries, etc etc!

    How incredibly pathetic.

  48. Michael

I said “I don’t care if we find only 2% “illegals” at all arrests made. I still find that number hard to believe and wonder how that figure was politically manipulated, when I know we have 5000-8000 “illegals” in our county alone and 12-15 Million in the country.

Wondering is not accusing, any more than nickpicking is malicious.

Corey is using a different set of “numbers” or “facts” from his perspective, just like the REPORT from whatever source the police dept/county uses “numbers” or “facts” of a different type available to the creator of the report’s perspective. 2% of what kinds of arrests? All arrests, a subset of arrests, a category of crimes?, etc. Pick any form and you can manipulate the political impression of what they mean. Since none of us know the “raw data” the numbers were derived from, and I know that ALL raw data can be politically manipulated, I don’t trust numbers from anyone to represent the entire truth, especially when the ISSUE is political. I speculate the SAME RAW data could be politically aggregated to represent an entirely different story the person who created the report WANTS TO TELL.

I don’t think Corey can speak the truth about RAW DATA anymore than any other organization aggregating raw data can to tell the story they want to tell.

I don’t need to offer proof that either or BOTH of them could be wrong or misleading, I just know they can’t both be right and likely never the same.

That is why I only trust the LAW, is is either ENFORCED by the Police or NOT. 5000-600=4400 “illegals” THAT HAVE NOT BEEN ARRESTED. That is my own form of political manipulation of the numbers from TRUTHFUL RAW DATA.

I think 4400 “illegals” still here in our county is a bigger issue than the 600 or so arrested so far. I think that means we have not spent ENOUGH.

  49. Michael

The ADL is like every other political group concerned only about a specific ethnic, gender, racial or religious group welfare. All of them are the same to me, none pay attention to the Equality of LAW. The law in this society today is almost entirely EQUAL. Their are very few unjust laws anymore.

Yet ethnic, gender, ethnic and religious groups scream louder and louder, and more hysterically for their own special privileges, laws, and political issues, while hating and despising all others not of that group, exhibiting racial behaviors themselves as a result of their hatred for all others.
