Nativist Letiecq Attempts to Intimidate Numerous Members of PWC Community

Just days after Help Save Manassas was classified as “an extremist organization that employs hateful rhetoric” by the Anti-Defamation League, the man responsible for earning this classification for his followers has sunk to a new low.

A private email I wrote eleven days ago found its way to Greg Letiecq, who has posted a new thread on his blog intending to intimidate and persecute, not only me, but everyone who was on the email list.

In it, I questioned the judgment of Gainesville District Supervisor John Stirrup, who tomorrow will ask his fellow Supervisors to vote to approve his appointment of Robert Duecaster to the Prince William County Strategic Goals Task Force. I have made no secret of my feelings about Duecaster’s racist writings, or his infamous outbursts before our Board of Supervisors (see previous thread). But now Letiecq is trying to intimidate and defame those who received the email (many of whom did not respond).

Supervisor Stirrup’s apparent trust in Duecaster — the only man in this county who has personally threatened the Board of Supervisors with more hatred and rage than Letiecq himself — is just one symptom of the toxicification of Prince William County at the hands of Letiecq, his blog, and his extremist organization. The Center for American Progress has documented how intimidation and incitement of racial conflict are common methods of attack for anti-immigrant organizations.

The persecution began last year, targeting the Hispanic community, though often worded to focus on “illegal” immigrants rather than the Hispanic community in general. But it did not stop when many members of the Hispanic community left the county. It did not stop when our county’s Citizen Satisfaction Survey revealed that both the Hispanic and the African American communities have lost trust in county government and the police force.

For more than a year, Letiecq has been targeting anyone who dares to oppose his relentless attempts to dominate our county government by exploiting his influence over Supervisor Stirrup and Chairman Corey Stewart. Now, he is not only targeting those who criticize him, he is targeting anyone who associates with his critics, or thinks about joining them.

Letiecq has made a habit of attacking me. But he knows I am not intimidated. He knows I will stand up to him.

Many of the those who received my personal email have not criticized Letiecq or taken any action to challenge his greed for power. By publishing their names without permission and “identifying” them, he has violated their privacy in a despicable attempt to make them appear guilty of some infraction, and bully them into silence.

I for one am not afraid of Greg Letiecq’s Neo-McCarthyism. And I am not afraid to say I oppose the appointment of Robert Duecaster to our county’s Strategic Goals Task Force. But more importantly, I oppose the persecution tactics Letiecq has employed to unduly influence this county government, its leaders, and its citizens.

P.S. Question for Greg Letiecq: Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?

204 Thoughts to “Witch-Hunt in Prince William”

  1. “In America, right now, if you are Hispanic and can pretend not to speak English, following the law is optional. I won’t accept that. I won’t settle for two sets of rules here.

I don’t think this is the case at all, which is why we have translators in court. I’m not sure where you are getting that, Rick.

What’s “gone too far”? What’s happened or is happening? An attempt to deport people here illegally, and discourage further illegals from coming here? Seems to me this is taking place without “blood” being shed.”

“Gone too far” means the hate speech, the hate groups, the targeting, and the violent threats. Rick, can’t you see these people are violent? You don’t go around talking about distributing weapons, showing up at a freaking 7-11 in army fatigues, calling yourself foot soldiers, advocating people to threaten a bunch of MOMS with GUNS unless you have a real screw loose. THAT is what is out of hand.

Witch hunting is out of hand. Spending every last dime and then some on a policy that didn’t work is out of hand. YES, we MUST fix immigration laws, but violence and bankrupting our county isn’t going to do a damn thing except make things worse.

  2. ShellyB

I think what Hello is saying is that for him/her, it is difficult to imagine having sympathy for another group unless you know or are related to someone from that group. I can relate to this, and it is a truthful statement.

  3. “Yes. But they were used to a standard of living that didn’t involve stacking in to townhouses dozens at a time,”

Unfortunately, some of “US” are used to that because we’ve been poor, Rick. Take it from me. I used to live in a “flop house.” It’s no way to live.

“Who is affected? Pretty much anyone whose job description doesn’t include higher education, or fluent English.”

Rick, we are all affected just in different ways. We desperately need a viable work program in this country, which is why I keep saying agencies that can hire immigrants AND citizens are the answer here. Agencies level the wage-earning playing field. They are competitive and fair. They offer health insurance. Please….someone listen to this idea????? It’s like no one wants to find solutions….they just want to create more problems and hatred because it’s easier.

  4. ShellyB

I think what NGL is saying is that not everyone on the blog is Caucasian, so you can’t transfer the same feeling to everyone on this blog.

We have enough back-and-forth going on in this county as it is, people. This is small potatoes.

  5. “it is difficult to imagine having sympathy for another group unless you know or are related to someone from that group”

What about human experiences? Have we not all felt pain, fear, loss of loved ones, anxiety, sadness….? Why can’t we use these common experiences to help build the bridges we desperately need. We do’nt need to have brown skin or be chased out of our countries to understand this. We have to look at humanity, human behavior, feelings….my goodness, “are we not human?”

  6. NotGregLetiecq

Just the Facts, if you want us to read something about Centers of Community, please post it here. Many of us refuse to read Greg’s website, since it does not allow a free exchange of ideas. Dissenting views are censored there, that’s why this is the blog everyone goes to for dialogue, and that’s the blog for laughs.

  7. And many of us couldn’t even access his (vile) site even if we wanted to.

  8. hello

Shelly, that isn’t what I was saying, the only thing I was saying is that some people here debate using emotion because they have friends and/or family here illegally. NGL took that and ran in some other direction with it which I’m still trying to figure out.

I think anyone can have sympathy for any group regardless of any relationship. I don’t agree with just about anything kgotthardt says but she is correct in her above comment.

  9. hello

sorry, not the vile comment, the one above that.

  10. IVAN

Ed is correct. Both blogs are devoting more and more time to name calling and petty arguing. Shelly B. is also right, we are all entitled to our opinions. However, does anyone remember Mr. Gerhart’s report last week? Remember 1.6% of all arrests in this county were illegals? This was a damning report that showed just how much the original Resolution has been gutted. GL has gotten this report off the front page and out of the discusion. Duecaster is one man; one man on a committee of 11. If this committee makes policy recommendations to the BOCS it must vote on these recommendations first. That’s five more people on this committee who buy into his and GL’s agenda. Then the BOCS must approve these policy changes. Both of these scenarios seem rather remote. In the meantime, important facts are being ignored because of some very clever manipulating of the headlines. Stay on message! Focus on what this blog was designed to do. A positive message backed up by reliable facts will serve to continue to give this blog creditability. Right now, GL is probably laughing his a$$ off because he has shifted the discusion away from a area that he can’t put a positive spin on.

  11. Duecaster is the last human being we need on a committee designed to serve human beings. He lacks the skills never mind the stability. GL can laugh as hard as he wants. I don’t find his or Duecaster’s threats amusing.

  12. Well said, Ivan. The Duecaster thing is a distraction from the very damning news that came out last Tuesday. I think that’s why Letiecq and Stirrup tried to do them on the same day. But it backfired on them in a lot of ways. We spent several news cycles talking about three much more important things:

    1) Just 1.6 percent of crime committed in this county is by undocumented people. This does not justify the 11 million dollars in tax payer funded expenditures and the destruction of the county’s reputation and local economy.

    2) People in our OWN county are losing faith in county government and our police force because of this disastrous policy / never-ending-campaign strategy employed by Corey Stewart and John Stirrup. It’s no longer just a perception from without.

    3) Perhaps the most damning and most frustrating revelation last Tuesday was that many of the people we are spending millions of dollars to turn over to ICE are let go within months and end up right back where they started. It’s an expensive and useless dance we’re doing, one that serves only a small, very small number of people: Greg, Corey, and John.

If anyone does go to Citizens Time tomorrow, please spend 2 and a half minutes talking about these three facts, and mention the Duecaster thing at the end, if time.

  13. Rick Bentley

“I don’t think this is the case at all, which is why we have translators in court. I’m not sure where you are getting that, Rick.”

I’m not going to share everything; it would make me identifiable. But I’ve seen this done not only in small ways (kids acting like they can’t understand the police telling them not to ride motorbikes dangerously in parking lots) but in larger ways that involved hundreds of thousands of dollars. It attuned me to the fact that certain crimes are okay if you’re non-English speaking and Hispanic (identity fraud, hit-and-run, harboring criminals, etc.).

“It’s like no one wants to find solutions….they just want to create more problems and hatred because it’s easier.”

My hatred is aimed at those in this country who lie cheat and steal. But yes the aim is to send the illegal immigrants back home.

I’m only open to solutions that do not include letting people be rewarded for breaking in here. Primarily because that will only fuel even more breaking in. This is fundamental. If Barack Obama and John McCain don’t see or accept that, I don’t care, it’s still fundamental.

The fight that I undertake and in a much more active way Greg undertakes is not actually EASY at all, what with both political parties being pro-Amnesty as far as they can get away with, and local officials always keen to claim “it’s a federal problem” if my community goes to heck in a handbasket, nevertheless we are on course to win. because at the end of the day common sense is common sense.

  14. Chris

    Ed,
I feel threatened by no one, and certainly not anyone from HSM. Nor, did I feel threatened in the least my your comments to me.
Even we have a common ground, Mr. Ed. My concern for the county goes way beyond the borders of illegal immigration. I care about public health and safety issues first and foremost. I care about the overall quality of life for those in the county. My stance on illegal immigration has NOT changed in the least. I’ve had to put up with a lot of nasty stuff in my neighborhood, as I’m sure you are well aware.
I got sick and tired of everytime I read something it was always trashing the county or the two cities. I am all for reasonable and rational debate. I really hate the Coverstone crap. And since you’ve been reading both blogs, I don’t need to fill you in on how I feel about that. Now, do I?
I truly believe you’d be very hard pressed to find anyone in this county that truly loves it and wants the very best for it more than ME. I’ve only addressed true concerns, and true unembelished recounts of things I’ve seen in my county. And I can assure, sir. I’ve never seen the climate like it is today. And that’s not a good thing. It’s time for all to put their preconceived notions away and begin to work TOGETHER like the responsble adults we are.
As far as contacting Mr. T or anyone else from HSM. I will do that of my OWN free will and not at your reccomendation. And, in case you are wondering have contacting some on many occassions since my departure.
The truth of the matter is I could care less where Mr. T or anyone else is. I live my life on my thoughts and my terms, and not on the thoughts of others.

  15. Chris

    Ed,
You can’t possibly see this as threat. Do you? I just asked a question as in how would they like it if the tables were turned on them.
    Ed, 15. September 2008, 10:15
“Thank you very much for reposting this email from Mr. T.
I wonder if they would like if a private citizen were to do a “background check” on them?”

A friendly word of caution Chris. If my understanding of your past relationship with HSM is accurate, and history any indication of how they might react to a

Rick, the Ohioans were the overcrowders that impacted me. They had every intention of returning to their hometowns when the economy there picked up. They crowded into the house to save money too – for dope and booze. Immigration status mattered not.

I agree that the economic impact on our county’s budget is the Duecaster/Resolution legacy and it’s the point I’ve emphasized in my letters to the BOCS. Appointed committee members can be marginalized by saner voices on the committee. I often think Supervisors appoint to some of these boards the crackpots who have been pains in the ass as a way of saying, “okay, loudmouth, let’s see you solve the problem”, knowing that the appointee will have to face reality and perhaps even see a different perspective. (And then there’s the example with which I’m familiar where the appointee stole the committee’s documents never to return them.)

  17. Chris

    Censored,
I like thoughts on the appointees. Here’s some of mine from another thread. I really think you are to something.
    Chris, 12. September 2008, 17:04
It really doesn’t matter who the BOS appoints. The BOS will ulimately do what they want to do. Different views are opposed all the time.
    Mom,
Fireside was just the beginning. When they get there bill from the PWCSA I wonder how much they’ll be liking that running water.
Consistency, haha, that’s one thing this BOS won’t be accused of anytime soon in my opinion.

  18. As mean-spirited and damaging to this county as Stirrup’s appointment is, it was his appointment, not the appointment of the people he represents. Rather than judge him now. Judge him three years from now when he faces a moderate Republican or an independent challenger. At this rate, the man could even lose to a Democrat.

The voters get their say in three years. In the mean time, you can rely on the moderate members of the Board: May, Covington, Nohe, Jenkins, and Caddigan, to guide the county away from the disaster of 2007. The radical extremists Corey and John will be canceled out by Principi. What we’re facing right now is a P.R. problem more than anything. That’s why this Duecaster things is so disappointing.

But it doesn’t mean we’ve lost total control of our government. We can’t control Corey and John Stirrup. Greg controls them. But we knew that already.

Don’t let this take the focus away from the three big news items of the year:

  19. ShellyB

I agree with WHWN: Duecaster might make life hell for a handfull of committee members, but he won’t be able to do anything to hurt the rest of us.

    FOCUS ON THE BIG THREE!

    1. 1.6 percent of crime in this county

    2. government’s loss of faith and trust with county residents during Stewart’s tenure

    3. ICE is a broken system returning what criminals we DO find to be undocumented almost as soon as possible to our county. We are throwing money away!

  20. IVAN

WHWN and ShellyB I would add to what you posted the fact that real estate assesments continue to fall, tax revenue is declining and the State is facing budget cuts across the board. This all adds up to additional PWC budget cuts next year along with another round of tax increases. Hopefully people will open their eyes to the complete waste of taxpayer money this Resolution has caused.

  21. ShellyB

Yes, all the more reason to stop the political sniping and focus on the people’s business. Please Supervisors. I know you are reading this. Help this county turn around, and let us know you have it covered, so we don’t feel so alone!

Let us know you’re not afraid of bullies. We need this so we can have faith in you.

  22. Chris

    Ivan & Shelly,
We’ve still not seen the worst of the property values. The banks are buying them for one thing, and selling them for much less. So the last sale on record with the assessment office is what the bank bought it for. Then the bank sells it for substantially less, who knows how many months later. Some of these houses have been bank owned for almost two years now. They’ve set empty and had many water pipes burst leaving stand water behind causing serious mold problem. And those houses will be sold for even more rock bottom prices.
There’s no doubt we will see an even bigger tax hike next year, and will be getting even less services than this year. We still have a long ways to go before this nightmare is over.

  23. ShellyB

Well. Thanks for the shot of realism, Chris. Can’t say I like hearing it.

So, we can deal with all of our real problems, or we can obsess about 1.6 percent of the crime committed in our community. What will it be Supervisors?

  24. Censored bybvbl

I agree, Chris, the real estate market hasn’t bottomed out by a long shot. As gas prices shoot up and ARMs adjust, people will spend less and sales taxes, business-related fees, assessments will continue to fall. People will be in no mood to spend millions to chase 1.6% of the jail population at the expense of schools, services for the elderly, roads, libraries. Every tax dollar will become precious.

  25. Chris

I am VERY concerned about 48 of those once on ICE detainers being rearrested in our county. I wonder how many of the others ICE supposedly depoted we arrested in other jursidictions.
    Shelly,
Sorry, but I am a realist living in the real world. I wouldn’t think anyone would like to hear that news on the house values.
    Censored,
If this past budget cycle has not folks anything about how precious our tax dollars are, then I’m sure anything will. Well, sadly next year they will have another year to figure it out.

  26. Chris

corr: If this past budget cycle has not *TAUGHT* folks anything about how precious our tax dollars are, then I’m sure anything will.

  27. Slowpoke Rodriguez

    kgotthardt,

There was nothing in my post that spoke of the immigration issues, so excuse ME, but I do realize what it’s about. It’s about certain folks constantly whining about some sort of imagined threat of violence against them. Constant made up (or at least psychologically unsound) phobia of GL, who is built much more slightly than the aforementioned people.

  28. FortKnocks

You all make good points. Let Duecaster run his own sideshow for a couple more months. Everyone already thinks we’re racists anyway.

But damn did we ever pick the wrong time so shoot ourselves in the foot.

  29. “My hatred is aimed at those in this country who lie cheat and steal. But yes the aim is to send the illegal immigrants back home.”

But Rick, don’t you see it’s HATRED that is getting in the way of getting things done? You won’t see things change so long as hatred divides us like it has. Hatred requires effort, Rick. Why are you expending your effort on that and not on some reasonable action? Hatred can’t do anything but make you and everyone else ill physically, emotionally and spiritually. That’s the problem we have in this county. It’s ill and no one is treating the disease.

BTW, I know people who “play dumb” to the law all the time and they are native born Americans who speak perfect English. People do it to cops all the time. In fact, people do it to each other all the time. If you are a cop or something, you might see it from a different perspective, but believe me, I’ve seen this “dumb” routine in every other place as well (one place is in the classroom).

  30. Slowpoke, talk to me the next time someone advises others to buy guns to use on you.

I take these threats VERY seriously and have good reason to. If you want to deny the reality of them, then go for it but you are either covering up for them or just closing your eyes. What’s it going to take, an actual shooting for you to believe and to make people take action against these nut cases?

You’re one of those who would just ‘blame the victim’ no matter what happens, a mentality I have no use for.

    Good Day, Sir.

  31. Sorry Shelly, but I’m not going to overlook government irresponsibilty in appointing this man. If we do that once, they will continue to do as they please. Corrupt government happens because people let these things slide.

There’s no sliding here. “Not in my town.”

  32. Yeah, let’s get Duecaster, the man who hates his own county, region and country:

HUGE market crash today.( NO SURPRISE)
It HAS been coming and people that paid attention could CLEARLY see it. I am SICK to my stomach as I have had ONE of my (MANY ) questions answered today and that is, is this illegal immigration issue ( after DECADES) a DISTRACTION?

  34. Red Dawn

With the Gov .seizure of Fred Mac/Fan Mae…to Lehman Bro.’s and Bank of America buying Merril Lynch…NOTE the date of this article about the FDIC ( lol, this almost sounded like a country song….if we play it backwards to we get it all back with no tear in a beer?)

  35. ShellyB

Did I say overlook? I didn’t mean to if I did. I’ve been paying close attention as these guys ran us in the ground the past year.

But someone rightly said it’s more a reflection on the extremists on the Board, Stirrup in particular, than on the county. It’s like when you have a batty old Aunt, you might be embarrassed by her but you can’t kick her out of the family.

  36. Red Dawn

To explain my post at 18:09
Just posting this for those that have not heard the question/JOKE of- if you play a country song backwards do you get it all back?

    3 things

1.Awcheney”s blog covers some very detailed/time consuming IMPORTANT information that NO matter where you stand in this debate, the PIECES of the puzzle can be found there.

2.I can’t wait to see what my presidential candidate ( Bob Wills) has to address tomorrow. GO BOBBY

    3. I find it terribly WRONG that email address’ where posted . It is ONE thing to post the freakin’ email…BUT the address? Just put the shoe on the other foot! This poses a potential harm when all it takes is for a name to be displayed for VULTURES to eat it up with ASSUMPTIONS……
    shame the fu#k on that!

I miss the ole’ PWC that I grew up in and tried to protect. Things have changed and I am ashamed.

  39. Moon-howler

Red Dawn and Chris have both addressed areas of critical concern that go way beyond the immigration issues. Stirrup will be reminded of the finger he gave us all come the next election cycle but today, he and his appointee are but a blip on the importance radar.

Meanwhile, we have a county that is teetering on the brink of financial disaster because of the gutted housing market. While people such as GL try to put a positive spin on it, there really isn’t a positive spin. Our values are down twice as much and in some neighborhoods 3 times as much as in any surrounding jurisdiction. There has to be a reason for this disparity.

The DOW dropped over 500 points today. The Nasdeq fell 81 points and the S & P dropped 59 points. AIG just might not make it. Lehman Bros was a powerhouse. Just about everyone’s 401K or 403B has been clobbered the past month. With money being redefined, how will our AAA bond rating look in a week, a month or a year? Remember, the better the bond rating the cheaper the interest rate.

As a county we HAVE to stop wasting money on someone’s pet project like chasing down ‘ilegals’ in the street. It is no longer an option. Just look at today’s numbers.

  40. Red Dawn

email address’s WERE( instead of where) posted…oh yeah, what did you expect from PWC Redneckville 🙂 CHEERS 🙂

Johnny Jenkins is bitching and moaning about 6 vans in front of a house. But those 6 vans mean 6 breadwinners, making money, paying taxes, buying products, and keeping our economy afloat. Six breadwinners in one house. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Now those houses sit vacant, and we all have to pay to keep them looking nice. Money we don’t have.

This is the end of Prince William County.

It’s time to build Noah’s Ark.

    Or move to Margaritaville.

  44. NotGregLetiecq

Red Dawn, see if you can find a song for Mackie. He needs cheering up bad…

  46. NotGregLetiecq

Oh dear. Red Dawn. I’m sorry. I missed what you wrote. You need cheering up too. The truth is, I needed cheering up too. The song was for me.

  47. NotGregLetiecq

Mackie, if you keep on talking about guns, you might end up with a PWC committee appointment. What’s your schedule like?

I’m sure the BOCS is quaking in fear now that Robb hath threatened 7 plagues upon them, asking themselves, “Robb– who?.”
