Apparently Gainesville Supervisor – John Stirrup made an appearance in your town to spread outright lies. One has to wonder what his true motivation is in perpetuating the lies. Corey apparently has delusions that he could conceivably become LutentHere in PWC we have had a tumultuous time since the initial adoption of our ‘Immigration Resolution’ which most likely is now being marketed as ‘The Rule of Law Resolution’.

Not having been there but having heard Stirrup’s on a couple of occasions, these facts might give you a more balanced observation of what has occurred here in PWC.

PWC County Schools has 700 fewer ESOL students
** Yes, and some neighboring jurisdictions have had a greater percentage drops than PWC without implementing any policy.

Crime Statistics dropped 20%
** Actually, the crime rate has been dropping over the past 4 years, each year by approximately 20% even during the timeframe where we had the influx of illegals.

Hospitals are less overcrowded
** Actually, emergency room visits have remained at the same levels but we have had about 500 less uninsured births combined with losses in L&D nurses.

What I’m sure he didn’t mention.
1. We have DOUBLE the foreclosure rates of surrounding jurisdictions that supposedly have MORE of an illegal problem than we do.
2. We have lost 25-40% of our home values, again this is DOUBLE the losses of surrounding counties
3. Our program has only identified 1.6% of those arrested as ILLEGALS
4. We have had to cut vital services to fund this program like our Senior Citizen Day Center, no new tiles in our libraries, close a health clinic, and the list goes on and on…
5. According to our County’s ‘Citizen Satisfaction Survey’, minorities including Blacks now have the lowest confidence ever recorded in our Police Department which ALSO has been cut for next year. How convenient.
6. 5% of those handed over to ICE have ended up being RE-ARRESTED in our community which makes you wonder where the other 95% really are. I suspect the majority of them were simply released by ICE and are back on our streets.

Obviously, John is now taking talking points from Corey as they try to convince the residents of Durham, North Carolina to follow in their ill-conceived footsteps. Funny how he outright LIES about emergency room visits even after receiving a report to the contrary. And, again, those crime stats being touted as if they actually had some sort of significance. John you are a DESPICABLE LIAR.

55 Thoughts to “Gainesville Supervisor Stirrup Continues the Lies”

  1. Mando

The truth of the matter is, if up for re-election tomorrow, both would get re-elected by a landslide. I’m as leary of politicians as the next guy, but these two delivered on their promises and will be rewarded for that.

  2. IVAN

Motto: Numbers don’t lie-Politicians do. However, in this day and age of politics it’s called “spin.” We have a VP nominee has “foreighn affairs” credentials because she can see Russia from her house. We have a presidential nominee who is a “maverick” dispite voting with Bush/Cheney 90% of the time. Spin, spin, spin, the faster the spin, the moore people are likely to miss the truth. Truth is the one thing that politicians like Stirrup fear the most.

  3. Alanna

    Mando,
The election is three years away and his support is slipping. Where do you live?

Anyways, if you have to lie, cheat and steal to get what you want then you are a low-life SOB in my book. And, I’m pretty sure most people will agree with that. So, we’ll keep pointing out his lies for the next 3 years, surely the Gainesville District has an outstanding Republican to put against him in the primary who can atleast tell the TRUTH.

And by the way Mr. Stirrup, your precincts changed again back in June, you might want to update your website. Obviously, it’s very difficult for him to keep up with all these changes, perhaps he should focus a little more on his office staff and their inability to maintain his website? And I’m hearing some grumblings from constituents that you’re not returning phone calls again. Maybe you need the Verizon network to get a cell signal while you’re in North Carolina?

  4. Moon-howler

Mando, I am not so sure of that. Historically, people vote their pocketbook. Our county has fallen on hard times. When the good residents of PWC see how poor their county is becoming and their services are cut back, they might just be crying for some heads on a pike.

John Stirrup also forgot to mention that his resolution was emasculated….ooops…sorry…neutered. Not one person has been able to tell me the answer to the following question: Other than scaring off Latinos, how has the resolution helped with immigration problems that existed?

I didn’t see it then and I do not see it now.

And yes, he lied. Out and out lied.

  5. Alanna

I double checked this morning but let me ask all of you. Where did it say in the County’s Crime Statistic report that crime has decreased 20%? I looked, crime has decreased to 19.8 per 1,000 residents, down from 21.6% per 1,000 in ’06. What the heck! I don’t understand how people can be so unethical. I have never before written a letter to the editor but this has got to stop. And shame on the other Supervisors, every last one of them for not correcting this.

  6. Elena

    Agreed Alanna,
My biggest concern is that these mistruths and exagerations only perpetuate the misconception that this resolution was the cause of decrease in crime, etc. I will add more of my thoughts later!

  7. Moon-howler

Little birds have told me that this misinformation is being spread nationally to enhance the tough guy images of the Double S boys and Prince William County. You know, the Sheriff Joe image must be projected.

  8. Stirrup and Stewart are using video and the internet to create an irrefutable record, and write an everlasting epitaph for their own legacies. In the annals of American history, politicians who found themselves on the wrong side of issues involving racism infecting governmental duties will be rare in this century.

But two or three names will stand out above all others when Americans look back at this shameful period of hate-mongering and scapegoating in the face of economic anxiety and political desperation.

Stewart. Stirrup. Politicians capitalizing on racism in the 21st Century. The last of a dying breed.

  9. AnonForNow

You know, the police department should really come forward to publicly dispute Corey and John on the falsification of the crime statistics. It’s irresponsible for the police department to allow these lies to be spread. Corey and John are abusers in the county that no one will stand up to. They will not stop until people decide to put a stop to it.

  10. Lucky Duck

The police department would not enter into a political fray about crime statistics. If asked, the department would provide their data, but they will not issue a public statement or press release every time someone spins crime stats to fit their needs. It is NOT irresponsible to remain above the political fight and issue accurate information when asked. Those that obtain the accurate information may fight the political battle, but a government agency should not.

  11. Moon-howler

I believe you have to look at which dog is wagging which tail. The police dept cannot contradict the supervisors. ”Wouldn’t be prudent,” to quote Bush the first. Technically, the police dpeartment serves at the pleasure of the board of supervisors.

It is up to the citizens of the county to point out the supervisors’ lies and to back up their remarks using the statistics from the police dept. They are the only ones who can do it.

  12. Juturna

I have been watching the attacks on county employees on the other and think the anger is really about the sucess of Eric and Annabel’s work. Someone must feel threatened.

That might be an apprpriate way to point out “discrepancies”?

  13. NotGregLetiecq

We should invite some of the residents of Durham to join our blog. Are they really thinking about bleeding themselves financially at a time of national economic crisis? I really doubt there is another county in the nation with leadership so inept and immoral.

  14. Juturna

Durham should have acess to UVA’s work on this issue.

  15. Well, Juturna … Stewart and Stirrup are on borrowed time. They are lying while they can, knowing all too well that they’ll have to eat shit, and lots of it, when the movie comes out.

It’s a foolish way to behave as a public figure, but they wouldn’t be the first:

I can name a few other politicians who have made a pattern of blatantly lying, fully aware that the truth is not only available but inevitable, only to come up with some OTHER overblown “issue” or distraction to mask the last lie and the last disaster their poor leadership has inflicted on their constituents.

(Speaking of Bush and his various disasters, I have been monitoring the McCain campaign’s recent implosion. I am all but resigned to the fact he cannot win. I feel that tonight’s debate will be his final opportunity to rediscover the man he was before the corporate lobbyists and the party apparatus exploited his justifiable uncertainty.)

  16. NotGregLetiecq

This debate is going to be classic. Please do a thread.

  17. Moon-howler

    NGL,

Remind me as we get closer. I will put up a thread. I hope they will focus on our Pearl Harbor Economy.

  18. Red Dawn

1.I haven’t been to the hospital ( PWC) lately to know the changes.

2.I do not have any dealings with ESOL to comment as far as the schools.

    3. MY biggest concern was the nomadic( here tonight/gone tomorrow) behavior of bunk houses, amplified by possible ID theft . I felt if something bad were to happen, how the hell would we have a lead to find the person responsible. The concern turned into ANGER and I mean ANGER, when I saw that the signal of a room available for the night was “signaled by a propped open screen door. I was so angry, that it was all I could do from “pulling over and wanting to go up to the house and SLAM the damn thing shut. I say this as there were MANY ( no exaggeration) storm doors open, sometimes even 5 to a block of 10 houses. I didn’t CONFUSE it with the wind blew it open or it was left propped for a big delivery.

I NEVER saw a change in the bunk houses DURING, after or present in all of this. I saw FORECLOSED homes ( some where bunk houses) but I also saw that the signal changed from open storm doors to curtains tied in a knot not a new designer fad but yes a TREND-(lol) advertising a room available. The resolution was NEVER designed to take care of that problem just FEAR.

As my anger grew, I became more involved especially with backing of a organization and the BOCS trying to do something about this. I started to pay more attention and started to doubt and and was ( like the last person on the hay ride) trying to hang on to the bandwagon of support when I fell of the back when I saw that Corey seemed to jump on for FUTURE political gain.
The ride was going slow enough that when I bounded of the back I was able to jump back on but this time with a bruising eye opener. I started to see a lot of things I was not able to see past red (lol, couldn’t resist) my anger.
I started to LISTEN to what the opposing side had to say. I thought, how in the hell can they not see this danger and what we are doing is good!?!
Then I started to see the PUSH of E-Verify….I think we all know how I feel about this BIG BROTHER BS. ( I understand we are all in the system or as Mackie says, The Matrix)
I got so fed up with the blog wars ( not just anti and bvbl) and the media that I started to research outside the box of the same rhetoric and wanted to see if I could find out why now after decades our Fed. Gov. has done nothing to secure our borders and what has brought us to this point, why now, like a WAVE, we have the immigration debate.
IT WAS TO EASY for people to jump on of being fed up or FEAR.
I laughed at myself and thought, duh, that was EASY and started to see that is nothing but a DISTRACTION to be focused on ONE thing when so many things are going on being slipped into bills and STRIPPING our CONSTITUTIONAL rights away…need proof? LOOK at where we are today! Right now.

I could go on and on but I would rather take my chances with bunk houses ( crime) and protect myself then have the constitution stripped for someone to protect me and my family.

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

“Take it from Richard, poor and lame,
what’s begun in anger ends in shame”

    Benjamin Franklin

  19. Red Dawn

Oh yeah, I forgot to add in the novel I wrote, that I see more crime on WASHINGTON then I do on the street 😉

  20. Red Dawn

Screw proofreading or pretending I tried, you get the gist and quite honestly, I don’t care, lol 😉

  21. LOL! Red, proooooofing isn’t something we necessarily do well here at Anti….at least I don’t.

  22. Red Dawn

no but damn if we ALL don’t want PROOF….lol 🙂

  23. Red Dawn

I am truly having computer problems tonight!!!! It kept FREEZING up( the hour glass would pop up, had to wait, etc..urggg…)trouble on another thread too but I didn’t give up!

  24. Juturna

Again, PWC offered itself up to the region as the least expensive place to live.

Two years ago a couple cents increase was $12-$18 dollars. Jenkins, Caddigan and Barg with years of rollercoaster revenue experience tried to keep the revenue (forget about the rate) flat. Gee. What a concept.

What do you expect when you volunteer to be the regional ghetto? Who moves into ghettos?
If I were a predator loan agent where would I look for the vulnerable?

Leaping all the way to the national level maybe our boys could hook up with Phil Gramm and really destroy things.

It always amazes me how politicians think their constituants are morons.

The other thing our local politicians often forget is of the 3,500 county employees many of them make up a good percent of local turnout for elections.

  25. Red Dawn

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH, holy hell….( I admit I am NOT a Obama supporter) but this should concern everyone.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iStZAbf47FA&eurl=http://www.infowars.com/?p=4897

I think I should fly my American flag upside down ( see the economic thread on the blog)
    our country is in distress.
I think my first ever blog comment was: where is America’s backbone? ( it was on bvbl as that was my start) and I got a response back with ” somewhere in Area 51″ lol ,but I’m being serious….What is going on?

  26. Moon-howler

    Red Dawn,

I believe those kinds of videos are propoganda. Any ad that features Obama’s last name usually wants to make a negative point.

Juturna, interesting concept….county employees voting. You mean they aren’t the little troll slaves, ready to do the Master’s bidding? Are they allowed to speak to everyone courteously, without inquiring into political background?

In general, I simply would not be a county employee now–Not with the current climate.

  27. Red Dawn

    Moon-howler,

I hope you are right, I most CERTAINLY want to be proven wrong with stuff like that…LOL
Do you think it was a FAKE news cast like FEMA pullled?

( My grandmother always wondered why I wanted to watch scary movies when it would keep me up all night with every light on in the house-LOL)

  28. Juturna

I watch them at meetings and wonder where all the self control comes from! Do you think Supervisors ever se them as constituants? I’ve asked many a county employee their thoughts on certain issues and of officials.

    Just a thought.

  29. no but damn if we ALL don’t want PROOF….lol

    LMAO! Red….you’re great!

  30. A Stupidvisor named Stirrup
    who harkened back to Europe
    thought he was elite
when he wore a white sheet
    but really, he’s just a big twer-up.

  31. Red Dawn

    KG,

    “you’re great!”

Right back atcha SISTER that can buy her OWN damn PANTS to TRAVEL( via internet, newspapers in PERSON…. anywhere …. LOL ( and for ANYONE that was confused or doubted that I am proud to have given this girl a hug around her neck….kiss my ass!)

  32. Oh No! I Can’t STOP! Help ME, RED!

    My righteous sista Red Dawn
inspires us all with a song
    be it rock or retro
    with a you-tube falsetto
she helps us all get along!

  33. Moon-howler

    Friday night at the blogs……

Juturna, some of the supervisors go through the motions of treating the employees with respect. I expect some of the supervisors who shall go nameless, to snap their fingers at the county employees–as in ‘come here, girl.’

There is such a thing as bad karma…and it will come….

  34. NotGregLetiecq

Okay, McCain is not Miss Congeniality. Point taken. Was McCain acting bitchy or was it just a function of the script they wrote for him?

I felt that McCain reassured us that he can still memorize long paragraphs filled with half truths and mischaracterizations. I enjoy seeing Obama think on his feet. It will be so refreshing to have a President capable of setting a legislative agenda rather that merely parroting someone elses. More later.

  35. C’mon, Obama is a fraud. His promise of change is an illusion. Real change will be very painful.

Painless change like Obama promises is a mirage.

  36. Here are our choices: war monger or dreamer.

I’ll take a chance on dreamer.

  37. Moon-howler

I would prefer to have other choices, but I don’t, so …..

    However, this thread is about
local politics. Perhaps the presidential debate should move to the debate thread and leave this one for the local bad boys.

  38. We interrupt this broadcast to bring you this special announcement. The dark avenger has set his pen against Robert Duecaster whom has set his words against humanity.

Illustrating the speech of the fiend, Duecaster, I present to you…

School officials say there’s not one specific reason for the increase, but point to the economy. They say gas prices and the high foreclosure rate in Fairfax County (web|news) are forcing families to move to Alexandria. In addition, they say the crackdown on illegal immigration in Prince William County (web|news) is bringing more families to Alexandria.

  40. Former COM employee

We could debate this issue forever and really never come to a consensus of who is right and who is wrong. But I do have one question, where did this myth come from that a propped open screen door means the owner has a room for rent. I have heard this statement for many years and even did extensive research with the help of several Manassas City Police Officers, Hispanic City employees and many hispanic friends who live in the area and I/we were never able to find one person who stated they had heard of an idea or anyone who would admit it. In addition, when asked, most were propped open because they were broke, or they owners were tired of the kids slammimg them. Now, I am not saying it isn’t true, I just would like to know where this came from because it sure makes a lot of people angry and I suspect it is for no reason.

  41. Red Dawn

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/19/AR2007031901906.html

“Since then, some community leaders said the problem has spread, spilling into affluent neighborhoods, where immigrants have increasingly bought homes. They said dozens of such houses have their screen doors propped open — even on cold winter nights — as a silent signal that rooms are available to rent to single workers.”

  42. Zoro, you are just incredible. POWERFUL, powerful stuff, more powerful than any armed Duecaster or GL could ever be. That “anchor baby” pic gave me chills.

I hope you have hard copies of these and/or will submit them to local newspapers looking for talented political cartoonists.

  43. Did it ever occur to anyone that in some countries, doors are ALWAYS kept open? Or perhaps the damn kitchen is hot. Who knows? How stupid.

  44. Former COM employee

Ok Red Dawn, but that doesn’t answer the question. Has it ever been confirmed by anyone? Again, I am not saying it isn’t true, I just have never had anyone confirm this as a fact. Community Leaders? What community leaders and where did they het this information.

  45. Bet you ten bucks the “leaders” were HSM or their cohorts.

  46. Censored bybvbl

The community leaders mentioned in that article are Greg Letiecq and Maureen Wood. I have no idea from whence they pulled this information but I can wager a guess… 🙂

  47. Moon-howler

    Clover Hill Zorro,

You are amazing. Great work. You have captured the essence.

  48. Red Dawn

    Former COM employee,

I do not think there is concrete evidence to prove it one way or another.

  49. Moon-howler

Censored…potty mind? 😉 ho ho ho

As for propped screen/storm doors, I have seen this as a sign that there is a vacancy. I can even give the house numbers where i have seen this. I won’t though because the owner of the rooming house lost in house in foreclosure. He didn’t own it that long.

There are still rooming houses all around. This concept is not new. My grandmother rented rooms out to college students many years ago. It is all about behavior. Some very nice people rent rooms. Some very UNnice people rent rooms.

  50. Censored bybvbl

Lol, MH, I’m guilty as charged! Screen doors weren’t the sign in my neighborhood. Beer was.
