In today’s Washington post, columnist Marc Fisher quotes Corey Stewart as taking credit for yesterday’s McCain campaign rally where approximately 10,000 Virginians gathered to cheer on their candidate.

According to Stewart the entire election hinges on Prince William and Loudoun Counties:

“I literally begged the campaign to have McCain or Palin visit…Prince William and Loudoun are the swing counties where this election will be won or lost. This is the battleground, and Obama and Biden have been here four times.”

Fisher further elaborates in his article,

Stewart, who won statewide notice by pushing for his county’s tough enforcement drive against illegal immigrants, says McCain has done himself and the party a disservice by steering clear of that issue. “But the reality is that McCain has never been strong on this issue,” Stewart says, “and his differences with Obama on it are not very big.” McCain has alienated some conservatives by proposing to let illegal immigrants stay here as guest workers and earn U.S. citizenship.
Although the emotional power of the issue has dissipated in Prince William — Stewart says that’s because the get-tough policy is working and many immigrants have left the county — he’s confident that a presidential candidate who emphasized a crackdown would be rewarded with victory in Virginia.

Was this the same Corey Stewart who was out cheering up Senator McCain at County Complex yesterday? I wonder if that was before or after he threw the candidate under the bus in his interview with Marc Fisher.

Did someone forget to reset Stewart’s robo-chip? Does he ever think of anything other than illegal immigration? No one can accuse Corey Stewart of getting off task, regardless of how much the data changes.

Fisher explains how Ken Cuccinelli and Jeff Frederick see things differently in an election year in his column.

It’s so reassuring to be led by an individual with so much personal stature and so much influence on a national campaign here in little old Prince William County.

51 Thoughts to “Corey Stewart Brings McCain to Prince William”

  1. ShellyB

I hate to break this to Corey, but sucking up the limelight was a bad idea if he actually wanted to see McCain get elected. Stewart is WAY to the right of McCain and even Bush, amd McCain’s only chance is to distance himself from people on the far right. Most people in PWC know Stewart for this reason alone. If they like him, then they are skeptical of McCain because he is not enough of an extremist on social issues, and Stewart himself has publicly criticized McCain for this. If they don’t like right wing extremism, voters in PWC will be less inclined to stay with McCain if they associate him with Stewart.

This was a lose/lose deal for McCain.

  2. Fontbonne

    Stay classy, Corey. Stay classy.

    What a tool.

  3. Censored bybvbl

I have to say that it’s a wonderful time to be an Independent. As our percentage of the electorate quickly grows, we may become more important to the Republican party than Corey Stewart. Haha.

  4. Information Only..

I think it’s quite funny not a single person has commented on that video in over two years. Sounds old outdated news as usual from you.

  5. Moon-howler

information only, it was also posted on another thread, so add redundant to old outdated news.

Maybe info is Corey Stewart. Same kind of obsession. 😉

  6. Information Only..

    Moon-Howler-
Or is it a possession? 😉

  7. –— Stewart says that’s because the get-tough policy is working and many immigrants have left the county —–

So his goal is to chase out immigrants. There you have it folks. Documented.

I think I’ll take credit for getting Obama here because I wrote to his campaign managers and the Black Caucus.

  8. Alanna

Oh Dear Lord, one can only hope that someone in the Republican Party straightens out these guys.

Although the emotional power of the issue has dissipated in Prince William — Stewart says that’s because the get-tough policy is working and many immigrants have left the county — he’s confident that a presidential candidate who emphasized a crackdown would be rewarded with victory in Virginia.

McCain has clearly stated losing an election is less important than changing one’s core beliefs & that’s what has made him a maverick. Corey on the other hand is just interested in USING this issue to try and win a couple votes in an election. It’s disgusting. And he plans to take it to the road after the election? Doubtful any localities will be now willing to take him up on his offer to ‘help’.

Additionally, the reason why the emotional power over this issue has dissipated is because people stood up and said ENOUGH is ENOUGH.

  9. Slither Hither

Corey hittin’ the road in the name Prince William County. Too bad he wouldn’t just hit the road and leave all together, and take his cheerleaders along with him. Let our county get back to the real business at hand.

  10. Why is he hitting the road instead of doing his damn job here?

  11. Slither Hither

Do you really want him sticking it here with his current group of “advisers”? He should be working with his fellow supervisors.
Are you pleased with the way he’s doing the job he’s currently doing?

Pinko, I’m really surprised you made that last statement.

  12. ShellyB

I don’t mind if Corey stays, as long as he is willing to follow the lead of Supervisors like Nohe, Caddigan, and Jenkins who have been along long enough to know what’s best for the county. Stewart has shown no interest in the future of this county; he only wants to politick for higher office. Therefore he should take the advice of the long time public servants on the board so that he does minimal damage to the county from now till 2011.

  13. Elena

Geez, when Jeff Frederick says immigration is political a loser, you know you are beating a dead horse!

  14. Juturna

Delusions of grandeur is an actual clinical diagnosis.

  15. Slither Hither

    Shelly-
You must have more faith than I. If he were willing to follow the lead of other board members he would have done so by now. Don’t ya think? He clearly prefers the advise of like minded right wingers. imho.

I wouldn’t mind if he stayed either if he could be a “team player” with the board. I was very optimistic about Mr. Stewart, but I’ve since given up.

Do you really think the county can withstand three more years of his current ways?

  16. Wendy

Two men clearly control three others. I would guess we might see a break this year over the budget. At least I hope so. This is where what’s best for PWC should be apparently different than what’s best for large land owning supervisors and for one’s personal goals Well see.

  17. Cat Scratch Fever

I just bet he had to beg the campaign to send McCain here.

When Frederick and Cuccinelli start sounding like they make sense, it is time to be afraid, very afraid.

When is Stewart going to stop making ridiculous sounding statements?

Wendy, he never thought about what was best for Prince William County. He only thought about getting elected.

  18. Fontbonne

“When is Stewart going to stop making ridiculous sounding statements?”

When is the sun going to start rising in the west?

  19. Cat Scratch Fever

Good point. Some things in life never change.

  20. ShellyB

I don’t think the next three years will be Corey Stewart years. Let’s face it, he’s not interested in county government. He demagogues. That’s all he’s interested in and that’s all he does. The other Supervisors realize this. So they can just outvote him. He has Stirrup and sometimes Covington but that’s it. The rest of them have had it with the demagogue first, govern if time philosophy.

  21. ShellyB

Jeff Frederick said immigration was a losing issue for Stewart?! Didn’t know that.

  22. Slither, I think you misunderstood me. I’m saying that obviously, Corey doesn’t give a damn about this county. Let’s see…he wants to run for AG and now do a world tour on his hate record. He wants to work on federal issues like abortion and immigration. He can’t even do his job here!

No, I don’t want him here. And no, I don’t want him anywhere near government ANYWHERE. In fact, I hope he gets deported or ejected or anything relatively harmless that will get him the heck out of our faces and newspapers.

  23. Witch of Beastwick

When do the other supervisors start out-voting him? Stirrup and Covington won’t do him much good if the others just say NO.

  24. Need Mike May to step up to the plate.

Covington has been a real disappointment. He’s riding the racist train, and that ain’t good.

  25. Wendy

Covington lays low til it comes to opening sewer so he can make a fortune for himself.
Otherwise he follows Stewart so he can continue to get elected until he can make a fortune for himself.

Nohe really disappointed me with his support for “Bobby the Cretin”. Regardless of what he said the record shows an “aye” vote.

May needs to trust his own judgement. He has the most potential to really contribute – of the four that is.

  26. Slither Hither

    Pink,
I misread your statement. I was probably preoccupied with the total trash I was reading at insidenova.com. I really didn’t think you wanted him sticking around here any longer than he had to.
    Withcy Pooh,
I’m not sure I would put Covington in the same league. He’s far more reasonable, and will be here long after others have come and gone.

  27. Slither Hither

    Wendy,
I agree 100% with the comment on sewer opening in Covington’s district, and with regards to May. I don’t see these two men as “mean spirits” as I do others.

  28. –Nohe really disappointed me with his support for “Bobby the Cretin”. —

    Yeah…me too.

Slither, Covington is allowing himself to be in the same category as the Chair and his VICE because he’s either following along like a sheep or he’s into the whole hate-power-mongering thing. Either way, it’s more than just a little disappointing. It’s dangerous.

  29. BTW, what’s this whole opening sewers thing?

  30. Wendy

I see Covington as mean simply through omission.

  31. A “sin of omission” is still a “sin.”

  32. Slither Hither

    Pinko,
The beloved “rural crescent” is to remain as such. Opening sewers is in reference to sewer service being extended to serve those in the rural crescent which have been on wells & septic. It makes the rural crescent prime pickin’s for the developers. It’s much easier and cheaper to tap in an existing sewer line, as opposed to have to pay and lobby for it.
    Wendy,
    MEOW!!

  33. Wendy

No new sewer hookups in rural crescent.
Covinton owns half the rural crescent.- slight exaggeration. If he could reverse that ruling he could be the Donald Trump of PWC.
He got it through for a church this year.

  34. Slither Hither

    Wendy,
I still can see the teen that read “The Grinch” during the Fireside Church fiasco. That was just the beginning. I knew when Fireside got the ok it was setting precedent that every Tom, Dick, and Harry would then want the ok for them too. It was only a few months later that another church was asking for the same. Only the second time it was rural crescent in the Gainesville District.

    Donald Trump of PWC. LOL

  35. Elena

    Agree 100% Wendy.

  36. Wendy

So Stewart has Covington for good. I had a good feeling about May when on 10/16/07 he voted against reducing citizen time to 1 minute. He was interested in compromising on tax rate as well. He did however support “Bobby the Cretin”. We’ll see.

  37. Slither Hither

    Wendy,
They can be a hard bunch to read sometimes. You never know who’s going to vote with who always. Time will tell. Can you remind me who the nays were for “Bobby the C”?

I don’t think the length of citizens time should ever be reduced, and most certainly NOT when ever household in the county got a personal invitation. I still commend Caddigan for objecting right off the bat when Stewart had invited us all.

  38. DiversityGal

I agree with Posting as Pinko. Though I think Corey Stewart is doing a rotten job, he still has to do that job here. Where, in his job description, does it say that he must spread the word about how to craft a ridiculous resolution and foster hate and community division? I do not feel comfortable with this guy as the face and voice of this area. Please, Annabel and Eric, find a national distributor for your film soon, so that the world can see the poison he has helped to inject into this locality…before he is welcomed into higher offices.

  39. Moon-howler

The nays were Caddigan, Jenkins and Principi- supervisors of courage.

Citizens time should only be reduced if notice is given a week ahead of time on the tv channel and the website and if there is a good reason to reduce it.

I believe it has been used in the past to shut citizens up.

  40. ShellyB

Covington seems like a nice man to me. I don’t know the inside baseball you guys are talking about, but he just doesn’t strike me as a racist person. None of them do, except for maybe Stirrup.

  41. Slither Hither

    Moon-howler,
A weeks notice would’ve been virtually impossible in the instance of the “personal invites”. Most of the residents got the cards 2-5 before the big marathon meeting.

I agree whole-heartedly the adjustment of the time has been changed to shut up. However, I think it’s for those that oppose the illustrious Chair.

  42. Starryflights

Corey Stewart has left our beloved county a wreck. Home and property valuues are in the tank, county revenues are down, and budget deficits are up. Nice job, Mr. Stewart – perhaps you can do the same for the rest of Virginia.

  43. If you allow racism when you are in a position of authority, you are tacitly or openly agreeing with them. There is no justification for this.

Covington can call Duecaster’s racism and hatred anything he wants. Yeah, Wally. Put it off as “freedom of speech.” Riiiiight. It’s just a justification so you don’t have to do the hard work of standing up for what is right.

We can safely deduce Covington is either a closet racist or a whimp. I don’t like either, especially when he’s running a large part of the county. He’s covering his own assets and not ours.

  44. Moon-howler

I like Wally Covington. I don’t think he is a racist but I almost never call people names like that unless I have solid proof. For that matter, I don’t think I have ever called Corey a racist either. I actually think he is more of an opportunist than a racist.

It really is far too easy to dismiss everything as racist. If ‘racism’ is bandied about too frequently then we desensitize. The way I see it, if I call someone out as racist, people will listen because I rarely do it.

  45. Moon-howler

Addendum: Liking someone doesn’t mean I always agree with a person. I like all sorts of people I don’t agree with on much of anything, and vice versa.

  46. The real title to this post should be, “Corey Stewar Brings Pain to Prince Wililam County.”

  47. My point is, if you go along with racism, then you are as guilty as the racists themselves, espeically if you are in a position of power. AND you can easily get the brand of “racist.”

  48. Elena

I don’t believe Wally is racist either, but he is bent on dismantling the Rural Crescent. That is his focus.

  49. He lets developers run amok.

If Wally isn’t racist, let him prove it. I don’t know if he is or isn’t. But supporting Duecaster doesn’t help his image as a fair minded human being.
