167 Thoughts to “WP: Stay at Home Moms (featuring Elena, Katherine & Myself)”

  1. Keep up the good work. You guys are like a light in the darkness. Alanna, I am sending you an e-mail today.

  2. IVAN

Congrats girls on the article. Remember the thread on the “dark screen” on 22 July 2007, “I Get Some Press”. I guess your press time has come. I liked GL’s quote about you not focussing on specific issues to improve the community. I guess he has foregot the results of elections the last two Novembers. IMHO they have improved the community and I think in no small way because of this blog. Well done! Keep up the good work.

  3. Chris

Great picture ladies! The post does take it’s time with getting articles to press. The article makes crystal clear that bvbl is not the only blog in PWC. It also shows you don’t have to “build an army” to have YOUR individual voice heard.

  4. Punchak

Oh, oh, oh – Greg must be seething! Good for you ladies!

  5. NotGregLeteicq

Not only is Captain Hate Man seething, he sent out an email alert asking people to post anti-immigrant comments on the WaPo thread.

When are they going to realize that virtual people isn’t enough to cut it any more. If there really is such an appetite for racism, why are the HSM meetings so desolate these days. Why are there no old people at the Board meetings screaming about having brown skinned neighbors?

Thank you Alanna, Elena, M-H, Katherine and everyone on this blog for having the courage to stand up to ignorance, fear, and politicians who try to capitalize on ignorance and fear.

  6. Johnny

I am heartened that in the bloviated pedantry (irony intended) that is the blogosphere, someone wants to do the right thing. Good for you. That’s what America is.

  7. JustinT

Wow!!!! Front page! Congratulations ladies. I am in awe of what you have done in such a short time. I hope that this represents the future of the American democracy. If more ordinary Americans learn to participate like you do (like we do on this blog), it will no longer be possible for a small group of radicals to take a county, or a country, in the wrong direction.

Anyway, since you are now the people’s voice in PWC, can you do an thread updating us on the budget process for FY 2010? I hear they might axe the left over vestiges of the Immigration Resolution. But what else will we be losing now that Chairman Stewart has destroyed our local economy?

  8. Poor Richard

“They loudly complain about people that they don’t agree with. Outside of that, they haven’t presented a positive solution that will help preserve the community.” Greg Letieq (Wapo 1-2-2009).

    Look in the mirror Greg.

A nice article. While not always in full agreement with your postings, I think you add a much needed balance to our local “blogosphere”. Please keep it up.

  9. deborah g.

Kudos to all of you! I am thrilled to hear of such strong input from fellow Moms! Best of luck with your furture efforts!

  10. Moon-howler

Thank you Poor Richard. We are glad you are here. Come back often.

  11. NotGregLeteicq

As religiously as Gospel Greg reads this blog (not that it has supplanted him), I’m surprised he couldn’t come up with a quote that shows that he reads it.

This blog has a lot of great suggestions on how to make this community better. Many of them come from Chris P, who used to be part of Greg’s warped little church, but he didn’t allow sanity and good judgment in his church, or on his blog, so now Chris is with us! Wooo-hoooo! You see, if you only allow people you can easily brainwash to have a voice on your blog, you lose all your other customers.

    Sorry Gospel Greg. You lose.

  12. El Guapo

That was an encouraging article. I’m sure the article as well as yourselves and your involvement in the community will inspire others to stand up.

  13. Censored bybvbl

Congrats, ladies, on your positive involvement in our county. You can’t begin to realize how relaxing it is to start the day by reading this sane blog and not having to rely on the other for local news. I can eat my ice cream in peace without worries of leprosy contamination. Also no more worries of the devil stealing the Christmas parade or children being presented as dog food. No hysterics screaming about an invasion. No old people being whipped into a frenzy of fear by political drones. Whew…what a relief. And I have a few fearless women to thank. Thanks again for a job well done.

  14. NotGregLeteicq

Censored, great post, except there still are some old people being whipped into a frenzy of fear by political drones. Luckily their numbers are dwindling, there are only 10 people remaining in Help Save Manassas.

  15. Mary,Mary Quite Contrary

“They loudly complain about people that they don’t agree with. Outside of that, they haven’t presented a positive solution that will help preserve the community.” Greg Letieq (Wapo 1-2-2009).

What about Sharon Pandek, Senator Colgan, Frank Principi, Hilda Barg, just to name a few, Greggy? Man up! You trashed those individuals horribly.

You vilify anyone who doesn’t agree with you and throw them off your blog. You don’t even have the nads to tell people.

Poor Richard says it best. Look in the mirror. Hypocrite!

  16. JustinT

    Excellent point, Mary and Richard.

Letiecq’s level of denial goes beyond any Jonestown koolaid drinker. He’s been breathing his own exhaust pipe fumes for so long he doesn’t even realize how ridiculous he sounds when he calls so many kettles black.

I’d bet during the interview with Kristen Mack, he said 10 or 12 other things that were patently false and humorously so. The man just can’t string six words together without lying. Thank God no one of any intelligence pays any attention to him. This quote is the first I’ve heard of him in months.

  17. Firedancer

I was thrilled to pick up the paper this morning and see the wonderful article on the front page! Congratulations!!! I am forever grateful for your bravery and persistence in taking a stand against bigotry. You were truly a light in what seemed like a descent into darkness. THANK YOU.

  18. I have been doing battle all morning with Anti-Immigrant clones on the WaPo website. Here is a sample:

Kahala, if Alanna (Conservative Republican) and Elenna (Moderate Democrat) are so “silly” and “puky,” why did the Board of County Supervisors vote unanimously to change the Immigration Resolution exactly as they advocated??????

Yes, the PWC Board of Supervisors (4 Moderate Republicans, 2 Extremist Republicans, 2 Democrats) sat and listened to citizens inspired by Alanna, Elena, and Katherine pleading with them to repeal the “Probable Cause” portion of the Immigration Resolution.

There is nothing “bleeding heart” and certainly nothing liberal about wanting to avoid expensive racial profiling law suits.

As a long time PWC resident, I for one would not have wanted to see a U.S. Supreme Court case called “United States vs. Prince William County.” That is where we were headed before these Citizen Mom’s took charge, and the Board responded by voting WITH THEM to change the law.

So, if you want to accuse someone of bleeding hearts, accuse the entire BOCS. By the looks of their 8 to 0 vote on April 29, 2008, THEY didn’t want to get sued either.

  19. marty nohe

My quotation is a little out of context, but it isn’t used incorrectly I suppose. All in all, its a pretty good article. (It’s also a really good picture of the two of you.)

  20. NotGregLeteicq

Yes. Gospel Greg, Corey Stewart, and John Stirrup certainly ARE right wing extremists.

But having the COURAGE to stand up to extremists does not make you an extremist of the opposite persuasion.

That’s where the clones have got it all wrong.

Alanna, Elena, and Katherine and the rest of the people who power this blog do not agree on most things. If anything we balance ourselves out politically. But Alanna, Elena, Katherine, and Chris lead the way because they are practical, they love this county, and they have the courage to stand up to extremists. That’s what unites them.

Now who would object to a blog that is uncensored, encourages community involvement and stands up to extremists?

  21. NotGregLeteicq

Supervisor Nohe, I know what you mean about the context being confusing re. “don’t always agree.” But that was the point I was simultaneously making. The fact that we don’t always agree on this blog is what makes it so valuable to this community. That’s the very reason why this blog rendered the old blog impotent. The old blog, by way of censorship, did not allow the free exchange of ideas.

Supervisor Nohe, don’t worry. Those of us who keep up with PWC government know that you cherish free and open discussion. We know that you love your job, and that you love this county, and that you love the process of governing (which includes dialogue with citizens). Thanks for being supportive of this blog. It really has made a big difference to know that you are reading our comments and that you care about what we think.

  22. Censored bybvbl

Supervisor Nohe, I’ll echo what NGL said – don’t worry. I’m probably much more liberal than you are but I know which supervisors have the County’s interests at heart and which are political opportunists. I’d put you in the former group.

Our political views are varied but we have the freedom to express them here. That certainly wasn’t the case on the darkside.

  23. Chris

Right you are Censored. My comments were deleted from the dark screen for merely extending an honest and sincere invitation to participate in the “Study Circles”.

  24. Still proud to be a Republican.

Still proud to be born in Prince William County.

And ever proud to be represented by Marty Nohe.

  25. Chris

    WHWN,
I’m still proud to be an INDEPENDENT.

I will always be proud to be a PWC N8V.

Marty is a N8TV too, he’s invested in our county, and not just some “transplant”. He will be he long after those that came here to use our county as the political stepping stone.

  26. I don’t really know if there is an Independent Party, Chris. I’m an independent person. I don’t want to jump off the GOP bandwagon just because we have hit a bumpy patch. But it is leaders like Marty Nohe that give me hope that the GOP will reform and rebound. That’s the sentiment of my post above.

The “transplants” your refer to, Corey Stewart and John Stirrup, are better known as Carpetbaggers. Letiecq is also a Carpetbagger, although he didn’t go to the trouble of running for office before making county policy. Carpetbaggers have come to PWC and ruined the reputation of our county in short order. It’s a real shame.

But the true source of pride comes from within. These Carpetbaggers haven’t changed the county; they’ve only changed the perception of the county. Same with the extremists who took over the GOP.

  27. Chris

    WHWN,
I vote for both Democrats & Republicans. I voted for an Independent candidate for Sherrif in 2007. I would not join up with either political party in this county or anywhere for that matter. Both parties are out of touch with the vast majority.

Carpetbaggers they are. I’ve called them that myself. I don’t need you to define for my benefit. Let’s not forget “perception is reality”. 😉
The perception of this county has changed, and I can’t say it’s been for the better.

  28. Poor Richard

Also in today’s WaPo is a good style section article headlined ” Hawaii’s Still Waters Run Deep for the President-Elect”. Perhaps you can invite Greg and Corey to a “ho,oponopono” and serve Spam musubi? It might get them in an aloha frame of mind. (“… aloha, translated literally means the breath of life …. and is also sometimes interpreted as an acronym for five words meaning kindness, unity, agreeability, humility and patience.”)

President Obama, a favorite son of the “chop suey” people, has much to share with us.

  29. Rick Bentley

“I have been doing battle all morning with Anti-Immigrant clones on the WaPo website”

Although I do post there, I think there’s probably not much overlap between people who post there and people who post to bvbl. I think the main demographic consderation you’d find is that people living in neighborhoods full of illegal aliens, undergoing personal stress and feeling abandoned by their political “leaders” are there angry and posting. I vented my anger on there well before HSM existed and before I had a glimmer of hope that my neighborhood would or could ever get better. I still do it because the embers of my anger burn brightly, but no one tells me to or makes any call to action that I’ve ever heard of.

  30. NotGregLeteicq

Rick, we know that you’re no clone. You are an independent thinker and you are respected for your ideas even by those who do not always agree with you.

  31. JustinT

I agree with Rick. Although they sound the same, the BVBL people are not all clones. They get their information all from the same place and/or they all live in the same area and are of similar demographics.

  32. Juturna

Since when is ‘respecting life’ not a vision???? Oh, wait, the anti site doesn’t determine which life is worthy of respect!!!! Sounds like a vision to me.

Congratulations you two – how nice to see something POSITIVE about PWC in the news.

    NotGregLeteicq, 2. January 2009, 10:34
Not only is Captain Hate Man seething, he sent out an email alert asking people to post anti-immigrant comments on the WaPo thread.

    ______________________________________________

NGL please post a copy of the email alert. Greg is claiming he never sent one.

  34. Juturna

I forgot to include that the thing the probably ticked Greggi off the most is the number of hits on his site and this one!!! Tee hee…..

(shooting for the Michael “most posts in a row” award)

  35. Juturna

Hey, what ever happened to KG? She hasn’t posted in forever??

  36. Chris

Rick, my anger still burns too. I’ve just witnessed a neighbor of forty years walk to the next door neighbor’s house and take a leak beside the trash can. I was on my way to take my teenage daughter to a job interview. We both witnessed this, and thank God public urianation had stopped for about a year. It ended once the flophouses had vacated. I contacted the police, but I was told I have to call while the incident is happening, and not after the fact. This is almost impossible, and especially since I didn’t have my cell phone on me for a quick trip to Ben Lomond Park. Now, was I supposed to make my daughter later for interview and go back home and hope I could talk to a dispatcher as my neighbor from Luray is still mid stream. They could only come to my home and take a report. I told them I would try to talk to my neighbor. Merely taking a report doesn’t seem to solve the problem. I’m very disappointed.

  37. wendy sefsaf

Hey supermoms! You are featured on our blog today! Keep up the great work and visit http://www.immigrationimpact.org to see our post about you all!

  38. Juturna

    Chris

I don’t understand. Your neighbor that you’ve known for 40 years did this? Where’s your camera!!!???

  39. JustinT

I don’t get it, Chris. A neighbor of 40 years pissed outside when he has a house of his own on the street with bathrooms presumably inside it? Okay. So that’s really bad manners. But it’s not about immigration and you’re not saying it is, right?

But that is just hilariously funny! You have to call the police while public urination is still happening. That’s about 40 seconds. They obviously don’t want to enforce that law, otherwise you’d at least get a 15 minute window.

  40. JustinT

    Juturna, great minds think alike!

  41. Moon-howler

Why should people have to walk around armed with a camera just because some redneck decides to relieve himself on someone’s house. Is he demented? Otherwise that is really bad manners.

Maybe Mr. Chris needs to go have a talk with the old goat about keeping his weenie in his britches.

Chris, you are telling us that this is an old white man, aren’t you? Wait! I thought according to what I read on the WAPO today only ‘illegals’ wee wee’d on the sides of buildings. Did one of them lie??

  42. NotGregLeteicq

Juturna, maybe Rick and JustinT are right. The clones all sound the same because they all sound the same, not because they receive talking points from Gospel Greg. I jumped to conclusions. It’s possible that Gospel Greg receives talking points from FAIR, the same place Lou Dobbs gets his talking points, and so it all just becomes one repetitive mantra.

  43. NotGregLeteicq

M-H, I had the same thought about the wee-wee.

  44. Juturna

NGL – need to show us that email from Greg. He is posting that he never sent anything.

  45. Juturna

I thought Chris never went anywhere without her camera.

  46. Juturna

NGL – Well I thought they all sounded alike because they only say two or three things repetitively??!!!

    Who they hate
“Liberals” are the root of all their problems.

  47. Lafayette

Yes, all this is a neighbor of forty years that did this. I didn’t have camera due to the short trip I was taking. I really didn’t expect to see anything while out. Well, that’ll teach me to not even cross the street without being armed with my Cannon(camera, of course).

This has nothing to do with immigration. I will say that I’ve not seen any public urination since the flophouses vacated. However, I’ve never said that the immigrants where NOT the first ones I’d seen pee outside. I’ve seen this man over the decades pissing outside. He’s not learned basic manners. We do have indoor plumbing in WestGate, and in fact his house has 3 full bathrooms. And if he insisted on pissing outside so bad, why not piss in his own yard. Why trespass on someone elses property to take an outdoor leak?
This is a neighborhood not the open air of Luray for crying out loud.
My blood is boiling over this one ya’ll. I’m going to Lafayette mode. 😉
Oh, this is the same redneck that dubbed me the “Governor of Lafayette”. Hence, the moniker Lafayette was born.

  48. Lafayette

    Juturna,
Well, you see what kind of stuff happens when I don’t have. This is exactly why it’s on my 99.999% of the time. 🙂

  49. Juturna

I got a camera for Christmas – it fits in my pocketbook. You made me think of wanting one that size. My hero!!!!

  50. NotGregLeteicq

Juturna, I don’t have an email like that, sorry. Why and where is Greg making claims about sending things or not? One would think he’d be proud to take credit for having so many minions at his fingertips.
