A little history this morning to usher in a splendid Cinco de Mayo.

I believe today calls for a good frozen margarita.

And from a little different perspective that is a little less historical and a little more cultural:

So there you have it. Carpe Diem.

Does anyone have a special recipe or special plans?
Do Latinos who are not Mexican celebrate Cinco de Mayo?
How did Cinco de Mayo get to be such an important holiday?

Wishing everyone the best–Today EVERYone is a little bit Mexican.

13 Thoughts to “Viva Cinco de Mayo!”

  1. Slowpoke Rodriguez

You mean “cinco de cuatro” right?

  2. Gainesville Resident

Five of Four? For those Star Trek people out there sounds like something out of there (one character went by the name “Five of Nine”).

  3. Moon-howler

You all have lost me totally. My grandmother once went in the liquor store and ordered a fourth of five roses. (There used to be a bourbon called 4 Roses)

  4. Starryflights

A good way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo is with an ice cold Corona with lime and an order of chips & salsa!

    @Gainesville Resident
    Obama said it…not me 🙂

  6. Black Velvet Reporter

Slowpoke, explain that one please. What did Obama say?

  7. Gainesville Resident

Slowpoke – even I missed the Obama said it remark, in response to my post above. Did he make a Star Trek reference or something?? Now I’m confused… Or did he make a mistake – as now I see it would really be cinco de cinco (May being the 5th month). So I’m guessing Obama said “cinco de quatro”. Just clarify for all of us! Sorry for the confusing Star Trek reference!

  8. Moon-howler

Maybe Slowpoke is out seizing the day–soaking up that last bit of Cinco de Mayo. 🙂

  9. Gainesville Resident

He must have had a late night partying celebrating the day!

  10. Mando

    “What did Obama say?”

    “cinco de cuatro”

Mando – I’m still curious about that just out of idle curiosity. Is that what Obama really said? I missed the news and all I saw the reference to that was in this thread. If so, what a funny gaffe! He might be starting to give Biden a run for his money!

  12. He meant to say “cuatro de mayo” as a joke because he was speaking on May 4th – not that big a deal. Here is the video:

Thanks for the clarification and video Speedy – that finally satisfies my curiosity as couldn’t really figure out exactly what happened or what he said! Yes, not a big deal.
