Back in the spring, lots of folks got a laugh out of Texas Governor Rick Perry for suggesting that Texas secede during a tea party protest. It looks like he might not have been kidding. Perry has formed an organization called the Texas Nationalist Movement which advocates secession. They held a rally on the steps of the state capitol recently. One speaker really needs to check his history facts out before clutching the mic.

Matthews also takes a look at McDonnell’s thesis and dancer Tom Delay.
Are these people in Texas serious or are they just trying to illustrate a point? I have heard several people say they are just going to revolt. Several had elaborate plans to do so. What does all of this mean? Would it have happened if McCain were president?
I saw this on the Rachel Maddow program. Belly laugh! At first I thought that some ham actors were putting it on, but I guess it was for real. Which maks it a bit scary, actually.
I liked Matthews take on gubernatorial candidate McDonnell’s attacks on working women. Women in Virginia who work and have careers should not be attacked by its state governor. McDonnell will try to pass a law barring women from the workplace. He is not fit to be governor or for any elected office. He should sell insurance.
If it’s the deficit that makes them give up on being a U.S. citizen, how about Bush sending us to Iraq and spending trillions on a lie he didn’t even need to tell to get reelected, or did he? I guess some Americans weren’t as ready for a Black President as we thought.
The night owls have landed! Punchak, I thought they were kidding at first also. Here is the question though, would we really miss them if they left? 😉
Justin, last sentence: bingo! I think you are on to something.

Hey! We found the person that watches the Rick Maddow Show! Been wondering where you were!
I guess they figure that the Army is really spread thin in Afghanistan and Iraq and that this time they might get away with it.
“All new states are invested by a class of of noisy second-rate men
who are always in favor of rash and extreme measures, but Texas
was absolutely overrun by such men”.
Sam Houston
And it still has too many guys with big hats, egos and mouths,
but little common sense.
Sam Houston was a Virginia native. That is where his wisdom originates.
In response to the talk of secession:
Sam Houston
Racist Moniker Man, you can’t even find something to say in favor of national unity and against the breakup of The United States? It feels like the extremists Sarah Palin lunatics are taking over. First the threatened to take over the McCain Presidential campaign. Then they took over the Republican party. Now they want to topple our federal government and/or leave the Union.
But Sam Houston was right. The United States has nothing to fear from second-rate men. Or women.
Shelly, what can you really say about this silliness?
Cut Slowpoke a break. Unless you are ready to label Loony Tunes a racist endeavor, he is on firm ground. I watched those cartoons a lot when growing up. My kids watched them. They loved Speedy. Nothing racist about it. He always outsmarted the cat. So did Slowpoke. He just did it differently than Speedy. 😉
Those texans are so spunky that you have to admire them. The big hair, the hats, the boots, real cowboys, and the other kind of Cowboys, the trillion dollar new stadium with a screen so big that the punter kicked the ball into it. Big, bigger and biggest, they have always had their own attitude about politics. I told my teen aged Cowboys fan daughter about this secession movement and the first thing she said was “Could I apply to be a foreign exchange student?”. I guess the thought of horses and cowboys does appeal to some. I have to attend a conference in Dallas in Feb. Should I apply for a passport and visa now?
The secessionists like to talk about the Texas economy (which is a good economy) but they forget things like there are 18 US military bases in Texas and other US institutions (NASA), and the US would surely remove those if Texas were to leave the Union.
What I find more interesting is the fact that Texas reserved the right to separate into 5 States when it joined the Union. If they split now, the Senate representation would increase from 2 to 10 – a large jump. I do not believe the House representation would change.
Pat, does that rule still apply even after they were taken back into the union? I think the Civil War was probably a deal breaker.
Here’s the best part about ShellyB’s post. In response to the notion that any disagreement with Obama’s policies equals racism (after all, it HAS to be racism, right?), I post a very well put position by E.W. Jackson saying to the left “please stop using the term racism constantly, to describe car paint, diapers, adhesive bandages, varieties of exotic flowers, and everything else under the sun.”
And ShellyB starts her comment with………race-baiting!
I understand ShellyB, you can’t help it!
Nobody seriously thinks Texas is going to try to separate from the union of states. Even if they say it, they’re just making a point. That point? Read the 10th amendment. Read it twice if you need to.
They did it once.
Now Slow, you have to admit that the lines of power have been blurred for well over a century.
You can almost tell watching the video that Chris Matthews has tingly feelings going up and down his leg!
LOL I try not to think about Chris Matthews’ legs.
I seriously had the dumbest conversation with a friend of mine last weekend. She hasn’t voted in 30 years. One of those. She told me she was so mad she was going to revolt. She was serious. She could not articulate what she was angry over. I asked her how she was going to revolt. She told me she was going to not pay taxes and that we all couldn’t be put in jail. You get the drift. She also couldn’t tell me how she was going to prevent her employer from withholding taxes. She had been talking to her sister again. She sounded ridiculous.
Lets see if Texas really wants to leave.Who are you to tell them no? What right does a man or a group of men have or state for that matter that does not want to be a state any longer? Will you kill them? Will you force them to be happy? Freedom to choose or not? Do you agree with imprisoning Texans who dont wanna be a state? What will that do for their cause? Another civil war? Will they be happy then? Drop weapons on them? What if they asked for support from another country? How big could this get? Is it worth it? If all they want is to be happy? When a couple is seperating one person wants to suffocate the other clingy, the other dont care which one are you? Let it go, Texas and her people will do what they feel they must. But before you try to make your spouse “texas” stay by force. Concider all the blood, pain, and bitterness you will cause. And hopefully other states wont disagree and cause more pain. Just let them walk away, We need to see why they want to leave, and remedy this politically, Even the US can make a mistake, See what is bothering them and tell them we can work it out, fix whats making them want to leave and other states. Somethings wrong somewhere! Or send our boys to kill, destroy, imprison, But remember every corpse, ever mangled body, every child who dies, every father, son, wife, daughter… Would have died for what? Forced Freedom wow what a concept! Forced Freedom that just sounds weird!!!!!!!
