17 Thoughts to “Everybody sing together now, “we’re number 37” in healthcare !”

  1. Starryflights

That is shameful and disgraceful to our nation.

  2. That’s a great vid, in spite of our pathetic healthcare system.

At the risk of sounding totally ignorant, I’ve never even heard of some of those countries flashed in front of the camera. Eeek! I better review the map. But outside of that, it’s pretty bad when the U.S. can’t match up to countries some people don’t even know exist.

  3. IVAN

I bet that the CEO’s of the U.S. healthcare and Pharmacutical companies are number one in salary and compensation.

  4. Elena

Yes IVAN, actually we rank in the top ten of GDP spent on healthcare but rank at the bottom, number 72, on health care delivery. Pretty sad testament.

  5. ShellyB

Republicans like to say, “We Have the best health care in the world!”

    The best money can buy!

Too bad the cost is so high it’s bankrupting our nation.

Too bad the terms are so poor that it’s bankrupting our families.

Always a funny post from Elena! How old is this report? They’ve been using it for a while, now, and they always hope nobody will actually read the thing, because they’ll figure out that the only reason we’re not number 1 is because they weighted quality the least and weighted 75% of the score on whether or not the health care was “free”. They don’t want you to notice that people come here from all over the world to get procedures, if they can afford it. They don’t want you to know that in the categories of quality, the US ranks number 1 or close behind in this report. They don’t want you to focus on the fact that the infant mortality rate hit we take is because of abortions. Please don’t ask questions…just take what you’re given and march around with it!

  7. Slowpoke Rodriguez

The best part of it is, when Obama made his little joke about tort reform during his “speech full of lies”, you could actually HEAR Johnny “Beefcake” Edwards have major shrinkage all the way from his mansion!!

  8. Moon-howler

Slow, are there any democrats or Independents that you do like?

    Which Republicans do you like?

  9. kelly3406

My measure of quality is not Republican vs Democrat, but rather conservative vs liberal. If there is a democrat who believes more strongly in a maintaining a strong military, keeping taxes low, limiting the power of the federal government, closing the borders, and naming justices who are strict constructionists, than the republican, then that democrat will have my vote. There used to be plenty of democrats with these views including Scoop Jackson, JFK (to some extent), Sam Ervin, and others.

    @Moon-howler
I voted for Webb, and I think I’d vote for him again. The man strikes me as an intelligent fellow who would, if he felt strongly about it, vote against his party. Hard for me to explain…I just like the guy?

  11. Slowpoke Rodriguez

Right now, I think Newt Gingrich is the smartest man in the room. I liked his Congress with Clinton as president. Oh, I liked Bill Clinton…..can’t stand Hillary, but I’d have voted for her over Obama, or possibly McCain.

Do you think health care delivery in this country has improved since 2000 Slow? I can tell you, based on my personal experience, we pay more, get less, and deal with more B.S. than is morally or ethically reasonable.

Because I am a stay at home mom, I can invest the hours it takes to get reimbursement that is legally owed by our insurance company to doctors and hospitals. Without fail, any trip to the ER for the kids has been a nightmare to get paid for. Apparently, during an emergency, I am suppose to ask the attending physician if they are “in-network”.

So here’s how it goes with my Insurance company. Me and my daughter, having arrived via ambulance to Fairfax Hospital at 1 a.m, having been transferred from Fauquier because they CAN’T handle a brain trauma, apparently my insurance company expected me to ASK the neurosurgeon if he is “in-network” before he examines my daughter. The insurance company REFUSES to pay the doctor. I have to spend countless hours on the phone, writing up appeals, and finally, after three months, they pay “almost” the full amount. I wish I could say this was an isolated incident, but apparently, when my son needed stitches in his forehead, I was suppose to ask THAT doctor too if she was “in-network”. We have insurance through my husband, who works for a HUGE company. We ended up paying a thousand dollars for my daughter’s trip to the ER’s. We pay extra for the plan through my husbands work, supposedly we have the “better” plan…yeah right.

    Slow,
What are you talking about? Our infant mortality rate is because of abortion? How about our maternal mortality rate? We are ranked 42 in the world Slow with a c-section rate reaching epidemic numbers.

  14. Moon-howler

Slow, I wouldn’t have figured you for a Clinton guy, but I knew there was something…I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I like Clinton also. As for the others, the dead Dems, those were interesting folks whose names I hadn’t heard in years @ kelly

Slow, I don’t think abortion is counted in with infant mortality. Where are you getting that from?

Kelly, I have a problem with the constitutional issues. I see the constitution as a living document that is can be used and applied to new situations as they arise. If we stuck to just what the founding fathers knew about, we would never move forward.

Was it you who spoke of having several patents?

  15. Slowpoke Rodriguez

    @Elena
I agree with you, actually, health insurance has been a joke for years, but bigger government is not the answer, competition, drug reimportation, and tort reform ALONG WITH, reforms such as the pre-existing conditions thing, the no-dropping because you’re sick thing, and tax-credits for those who can’t afford health care is the answer. All the Dems are looking to do is grab more power for itself and further enslave the people.

  16. Elena

    Slow,
Have you looked at how other countries do it? Howard Dean was incredible at the health care town hall with Jim Moran. He actually said that if you regulated insurance companies, put it common sense reform, a public option was not necessarily the only way to bring down health care costs. But, insurance companies make billions and they just don’t want to give up their 18 million dollar exec bonuses. I’m sorry, but it is immoral that people are suffering, and one day it could be me, or you, or someone you love, and in the meantime, insurance companies are fat and happy. Not because they are evil or horrible people, but because they don’t want to look in the mirror. Japan has figured out how to do it right, why are we reinventing the wheel. There ARE examples out there that are working.

  17. Elena

    Slow,
There is a law against pre-existing now, it passed under Clinton. But there are still ways around it. For all intensive purposes, I am uninsurable unless I am in a huge group plan. I say this because when I looked into getting private health insurance twelve or so years ago, it would have cost 500 dollars a month! Sure, SOMEONE was willing to insure me, but it was unaffordable! Imagine if I looked into getting coverage today, I’ll bet it would cost at least a grand a month.
